Gypsies, what LIES ahead?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Lynnie, you are doing some major demolition there!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Lynnie, how did I know you'd know what swedish fish are? He brings the good ones too, not the knock-off's.

Venice, swedish fish are those red fish shaped candy, similar to gummy bears only not as icky. Easier to eat.

Lynnie, brave woman. Fondant? I know what it is, do you make it or buy it? I can't bake very well, can't stand to measure properly. I love Cake Boss, DH hates it. I don't know why, he loves cake.

Hi Joy! No, don't eat the swedish fish the same time as the chocolate. He brings a big bucket of them, I put them in a central spot at work so everyone can have some (selfish, really, then I don't eat them all). When I go to get another handful I say "here, fishy! fishy! fishy!". Anyone remember that from Sesame Street? You are lucky to be able to leave your work at work. I leave mine there, but it's still in the back of my mind. Got bad news today ~ one of the girls (there's only 3 of us) gave her 2 weeks notice. She does a lot of work and is grossly underpaid. She went into the owner's office & explained she can't live on what she makes. Boss said "I don't blame you".

I am so tempted, when he says something to me, to say "it sucks to be me". But I won't. Actually, they moved me to more of an accounting position and are having someone else in charge of customer service. Which is fine by me. So actually, I should say "it sucks to be Terry". But again, I won't. In my own Smiley way he will know I'm not happy about it.

On to bigger & better things. Lynnie, show your deconstruction! And your cake!

fondant (kids are making green fondant cutouts for our pink cake, pics soon!)

US Metric Calculate
Original Recipe Yield 3 pounds
Ingredients
1 cup light corn syrup 1 cup shortening 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon clear vanilla extract 2 pounds confectioners' sugar
Directions
In a large bowl, stir together the shortening and corn syrup. Mix in the salt and vanilla flavoring, then gradually mix in the confectioners' sugar until it is a stiff dough. If you are using a stand mixer, use the dough hook attachment. Otherwise, knead by hand. If the dough is sticky, knead in more confectioners' sugar until it is smooth. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
To use, roll out on a clean surface that has been dusted with confectioners' sugar until it is 1/8 inch thick or thinner if you can. Drape over frosted and chilled cakes and smooth the sides down, or cut into strips to make bows and other decorations.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I didn't realize you frost & chill the cake first! I can't wait to see pictures.

(Zone 5b)

ok I didn't chill the cake

I frosted the layers with melted semi sweet chocolate chips....I didn't have any other frosting, and the cake is a chocolate layer and a white layer, and the fondant is vanilla, so it will taste good. Doesn't look too good here lol

It's cute!! Hey! We have the same Pfaltzgraff (sp) dinnerware. I recognize the white bowl.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I have seen all sorts of cakes with fondant when there was a competition on TV. I couldn't believe how elaborate they were. I have never tried it though.

(Zone 5b)

my mother gave me that set of Pfaltzgraff when I bought my first house years ago, it's service for 4....I think that was 1991. Still have all the pieces.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

HAH! HAH! Mom bought mine for me too, when we bought the house. I got service for 8 and there's all kinds of pieces missing. When DD moves out I'm getting new everyday.

She empties the dishwasher, 'nuff said.

(Zone 5b)

well that cake is chilling now, dh is LATE FOR DINNER lol
one more minute I'm starting without him.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Boy Lynnie you have been busy. Cake looks good.

Have to admit I didn't know what Swedish fish or fondant was.
Thought Lynnie misspelled fondue. LOL
Never heard of Cake Boss either.

Smiley I don't do any complicated ones either.
Paid in chocolate......hmmm.... never thought of that

Dh must be tired of decorations in yard. When I got home he had all the wooden ones taken down...and he had to get them out of the snow bank.

(Zone 5b)

Cake Boss is on TLC, the kids watched it today and we were going to make cookies and it made me want cake, then I decided what the heck we'll try a fondant.
Cake was good. They were pretty proud of it.

I think I got high test coffee today. I ran out of garbage bags, had to stop ripping stuff up.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Cookies, cake they both sound good. Cake looked good too.

Sounds like you needed a break anyway. Your DH was late getting home because he was afraid of what he would find. LOL

I repotted those plants at friends today and could hear the husband in the LR saying Oh No she tore them up...
Hope they live now...Still finding little stickers from that darn cactus...
Everything she has needs repotted, but rest will have to wait until spring.

Then I will send everyone a piece of them.....

(Zone 5b)

that was nice of you JJ! How's that gentleman doing?
When my bedroom is done I'm going to put some kind of tall plant in there.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

He seems to be doing better.
We are hiding med bottles and giving him only the pill box for the day and keeping close eye on it.

But since he is more alert..now he is back on wanting to drive and got mad because I wouldn't take him to the farm store to get batteries for the two big old tractors he has. (they haven't been moved in years). Says he needs to get ready for spring.

Lost his hearing aid (broke one and has had thia one a week). I found it and his wife told him he had to give me $100 finders fee. LOL She said if he had to pay me to find it he wouldn't lose it again. ( Man is tighter than bark on tree)

(Zone 5b)

oh they sound pretty good! that's good.
there you go tearing up plants & not letting him get ready for spring!

both girls have dentist appt's tomorrow....one in the AM to get a tooth pulled, one in the afternoon for orthodontist consult....I'm gonna have to start picking up hours! lol

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Your going to squeeze in more hours where?
You already go from before sunup to after sundown...

He almost went in the pond three or four times on the lawnmower....no way do I want to see what he'd do with a big old tractor with bucket on the front..shudder at the thought

(Zone 5b)

hahaha he'd tear the place up!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Hi Gypsies, just got the munchkin down and I'm going too. Got a picture of him drinking hot chocolate while laying in bed watching funny home videos, We played go fish and he beat my socks off lol. Sounds like yall have had a prosperous day and are eating well. Good Luck on construction project Lynnie, can't wait to see results. Will try to catch up tomorrow evening as I will have him all day tomorrow too. Take care and by the end of the week I suspect Moon will be finished with closets and attic will be nicely packed lol. Here's a cough drop Dixie....catch. Cya

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Wakey wakey! Eggs & bakey!
Your wake-up call is in the hall
Let's start the day, let's get 'er done
Then you can go and have some fun

What can I say, it's early! Lynnie, I think you're the snow bunny today. I see a big blob heading you way.

(Zone 5b)

morning!
snow? really? you wouldn't tease me would ya? :)

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Morning Folks. It is so foggy here this morning. Couldn't see GS 1/2 block away at bus stop. Got a bunch of running to do today Yesterday was dentist and doctor. GS wondered why even have a holiday if he had to "do stuff".. Gotta get car seats, stroller, play pen and highchair. Busy busy....Who would be calling at this hour?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Wouldn't kid ya, Lynnie. Do you have the weatherbug on your computer? That's what the map shows.

I don't like your new job, Lynnie. I'm all alone in the morning now :(

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good Morning Smiley....sorry your breakfast buddy isn't around.

Hope you all have a good day.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Morning,

Wish I as closer Moon would just pull it all out of the attic for You. Even have the baby bed, swing and bassinet....

Sorry you are alone in the morning Smiley...but its barely 5 oclock here when you get moving.....too early for these bones.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I appreciate it JJ. I had all that stuff, but when we moved DH decided to give it all away. I was less than happy.I was able to borrow from a friend when DD came in 2005, but friend's son has a baby now and he has it all. Gonna check out Sally and GW and couple consignment shops. If I can't find what I need, I will buy new and keep in attic....my new favorite place....grin

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

MY DH has been trying to get rid of all that baby stuff forever, says we don't need it.
That's a fight he is not going to win...grin...
He doesn't know I bought a little swing at yard sale last year after he threw out my broken one.
Probably good thing he doesn't go in the attic much.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

LOL...what difference does it make to them? The stuff was not in his way...he didn't have to dust it, walk a round it or have anything else to do with it....I was livid....used all that stuff for our three kids and GS Jordan. The woman he gave it to sold it all on E-bay....I was not happy.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I would have been upset too.
He says the attic is full of junk...I say so is the garage..
That usually ends the conversation....lol

Have a good day I need to get ready for work.
Catch up later.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You too, JJ. Be safe and warm

(Zone 5b)

I'm here! Little one had a dentist appt, had to have a baby tooth pulled, the adult tooth was behind it and didn't push on it at all. She was very brave, I was proud of her. I brought her to school as soon as the bleeding stopped (which coincided with a tiny piece of cake for each of us :)

Hubby left me the sawz- all *grin* I'm gonna go check it out

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, take a look at freecycle in the cities around you. Also, you could make Wanted post. It is worth a try.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hello everyone, still stuck in the attic?

Moon, that wasn't nice of DH to give away your stuff. I got rid of our baby stuff before we bought our house. Otherwise it would probably still be here. I have a few items, mostly toys, that will never leave.

I had that problem with one of my baby teeth, Lynnie. The big one grew beside it, pushed the baby tooth in. DH had an extra tooth in front, on the roof of his mouth, behind his 2 front teeth. I don't remember if he said it was a baby tooth or an extra, but he said he used to ring lifesavers on it.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Venice, how are you today?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, this is from Craigs list. Check it out and see if there is something you can use that is not too far away from you.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, yesterday I didn't get to sleep until after 5AM and got 4 hours of sleep. So I took Tylenol PM last night. Took less than an hour to get to sleep and woke up at 11:15!!!! When I flex any muscle at all I feel these tremors and it is hard to comfortably do anything.

Dixie, hope you are doing better.

(Zone 5b)

look what I did! sawzall quit on me, though.

Lynnie, I have this image of you with a sawzall and fuzzy socks.

Venice, get better quick! Do you go back to the doctor for a progress report soon?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I will report to my doctor next week.
