(((( Betty)))) Did your chest pains subside? Don't ignore that, Dave's good friend from childhood was just diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer, they said he's had it for at least 2 years but he ignored the pains and never went to the dr, until he collapsed at home and that's what they found. It's the type of cancer that could have been easily taken care of if he had went to the doctor.
Deepest Sympathy Betty. The same thing happened to a lady working at my eye drs office, very sad.

Busy busy day today, State budgets being cut, I don't know details. I guess it's time to start doing what Dave has already been through. Joy!!!

Thanks for the birthday wishes guys, it was pretty nice, especially since my Prodigal's son, called me and remembered this year and told me he loves me.

Betty I was not near the earthquake. I love your flooring and tile. It looks so cozy and quaint, homey. My sister used to say that at my old house all the time. She would always say, your house is so cozy it makes me want to take a nap. How do you take that? lol

I hope I am next in line for a job, Lord knows if I'm not it is not for lack of trying.

Dawn - Sometimes I have found my own home so NOT cozy...I didn't Want to take a Nap here...so I'd take that well... LOL!!!! (Especially with the Teens !)

Debbie - love to you and the girls....it sounds as though you have your own recovery clinic at the house... I hope everyone does okay...I do miss you....need your old sense of humor back... Prayers to you that everyone recovers.....

We are hopefully done with the "15 year" 'below freezing' temps...now just to see how much is gone and will have to be re-planted.

It's a first for me. (I know ...I know...what a naive baby....many have been through so much worse).

I remember when Mom told me that her dad....Grandpa G...Died because the "Hard Freeze" came and he was no longer able to "Fire up the old drums" in the orange tree field to keep them alive. He was an orange tree farmer in FLorida.

Back in "the old day" the rich families would drive down from the North and see his sign..and they would stop for crates of oranges and honk...and Grandpa would come out and peel open some "Free Samples" and everyone would eat the delicious oranges....and he would sell a crate or two...

I guess I can now understand (in a tiny way) how that can kill a spirit...those orange orchards were his LIFE...and the last freeze... well ....when you can really do nothing ....

Morning all...

Deep freeze it is here, back to turning on the fireplaces to take away the chill...started my winter with a healthy hydro credit but I'm sure I'm quickly using it up...

Dawn, something is out there just waiting for you to take it on..praying it's soon...how wonderful to hear from you son....must have made your day...

I'd have to say your sister was giving you the highest of compliments..although not a mansion everyone says they feel the warmth in my home...must say I do as well..lol..probably why I enjoy staying inside as much as I do..

Mary, watched the news last night and they were talking about Florida crops and the freeze...how dishartening it must be for them..as you say it's not only a way to make a living but their LIFE!..your poor grandfather..how very sad...

You just have to wonder why this year we're all being affected with the cold..

Greg says it's great snowmobiling on the lakes but you still have to watch the current areas..Darlene was telling me that on Sunday she was at home and Mike her hubby was at her mom and dad's with hip boots in the water, checking the bubbling system .. it's keep ice away from docks...last year with the trent waterway system putting water lower/lower each week, the bubbler did not get enough water and they lost all the docks..anyway..Darlene's mom and Dad have been ill so when she saw the ambulance go into the driveway she could only think it was either her mom/dad or her husband who she knew was in the water...she ran down the road terrified...

When she got to her mom/dad's house the rescue unit that arrived just seconds after the ambulance was taking out water gear..her a man who just moved onto the lake (just around the bend from where Roger and I lived) rode his snowmobile down the main channel..always a no/no because of trent playing with the water flow..anyway he managed to get out of the icy water, was on the little island bit confused as when he saw the rescue team he started to walk towards them...luckily they were able to rescue him....happy ending for he and his family...

Last night as I sat on the couch I watched cars pull in and out of Ben's driveway..knew what that family was going through, made me so sad..those boys without a father..thought of my own who after all these years still miss him terribly....

Off to have breakfast..just did a load of laundry, fed the furries and now it's time to sit and relax for a bit..

LindaKay was just thinking to myself on my way in this morning how nice the roads have been so far and we`re already into mid January...few degrees below zero but those temps are starting to feel warm to me..lol

Have you, Trisha and Barb tried to do those thread catchers, perhaps my instruction weren`t clear...

Hate it when the telephone rings at 6am..it was Melanie DIL checking to see if I made the 2 thread catcher bags that she asked for..it was her girlfriends birthday today and she works with her, wanted to bring one in..told her I was under the understanding that she`d come over, I`d show her how and she`d make 2 or 3..lol..so, sat down and made one, she had to leave at 6:30 because Noah had a hockey game so couldn`t wait till 7:30 for it to be made..she`ll pick it up tonight and be a day late...then she`ll have to make her own.,.

Will be quiet day here so I`m sewing grannie squares together..have my pepcid complete antacid capsules by my side, going to only have soft foods today and see what happens...

What are you all up to today...hope it`s not as boring as my day..lol

Mom just called, she's bored, looking for something to do so I'll go and pick wool for her at Michael's at lunch..she says she's not great at picking co-ordinating colors and as she's coming to Aunt Muriel's 80th Saturday and it's just up the street she can pick up the kit...told me she has a box of goodies, she's cleaning her crafts and thought I might want things..didn't say nope, cleaning my craft room as well, then she told me she picked me up 'treats' knows how I enjoy putting the flameless candles on, bought me a trio set with tray and 8 other flameless candles, different sizes..didn't dare tell her I just bought 10 and saving them for gifts...what we don't tell our mothers...

LindaKay, how's your dad, is your leg healed enough for you to make the trip to pick him up?

Yeah, I am going to drive 14 hours to Colorado, one way, then get him back here for a few months, then take him to my Sisters in Michigan, probably early summer. From there she will most likely place him in a nursing home, as he is slowly going down hill, losing control of his bladder and such. He gets really confused, and is getting angry over a lot of little things. So as much as I hate nursing homes, I know that is the right thing to do, so he can get the proper care he needs!

LindaKay, that's a horrible decision to make isn't it..keep saying I hope that when the time comes, I'll have my faculties and not wait until I don't and move into a home to save the children from having to do it...harder I would imagine when you all live so far away from each other....will you break up the drive to make it easier on the leg?

Where abouts in Michigan does she live? close to my neck of the woods?

worst....Kitty got his tail broken somehow...and it had to be cut off!!

what did I learn today?? lots of cats get broken tails..vet said it is more common than you would ever think!!!

tried to sew today, but could not concentrate enough to do something new, so I worked on a baby quilt for awhile, instead of working on the hearts paper piece blocks.

kitty has to stay in for 7 - 10 days!!! he is not going to like that at all !!!

day started off with my ever so clever fox terrior who obviously hasnt learned his lesson from the past!
yep 6:30 this morning he decided to go after a skunk in the back yard yep guess who won.....
omg the whole house reaks sooooo bad as well as me and he is just wagging that tail as proud as can be!
used all skunk products and tomato juice but i guess in time it will air out, think last time it took two months before it was undectable in the house...

I bought a 3 month Gym membership for the Family yesterday.... we all met up there today.... I did a Spin class.

SPIN - Sounds SO sweet and innocent. well - SPIN kicked my B#)&##!!!!

Will go back up tomorrow for a "Rep Reebok" class. I really want to lose all this weight I've gained as of late....The kids were excited ...they went up and did their various things...

Betty - I guess the lake can be treacherous...if you don't know what you are up against... and many out of town tourists don't know...

How's the B&B coming? It sounds like a fabulous idea...just hoping you get some GOOD people....

I think a visit with Betty would be very nice, but when I fly to my Sisters, it is usally for just a few days, and then back on the airplane to get back to Texas! Lets see what happens, and maybe I can plan a few extra days!

Skunks are so bad, we have one h ere in the yard tonight, but Thank GOD, that our dog is not the one that woke him up? Aren't they supposed to hibernate in the winter?

Thunder, poor kittie must be hurting..they are so agile you would wonder what could have happened...yikes..how much did they have to cut off, is there a reason they couldn't have just let it mend, even if it mended crooked? No wonder you can't concentrate on your sewing...

Barb, last time you posted a few days ago you were having difficulties with all the projects you were doing, have you managed to get back on track..

Liz, not a good way to start the day at all...you'll have to bring home some 'nice smellies' from work in hopes to clear the air...haven't had problems with skunks just porcupines..

Trisha you never stop either do you..cleaning carpets is a hard job..with the furries I decided no carpets in the house except area rugs and as you know most of my area rugs I've painted to avoid having to vacuum twice a day ..getting lazy in my old age..

LindaKay, you should take an extended holiday, I could always come over to Detroit..try to make your stay so that it involves a 'weekend' I'd be thrilled to meet up with you...

Mary how wonderful, family gym membership, now let's just hope you can find time to enjoy...you'll be sore today..guess the trick at the beginning is to do it every few days until your body get accustomed to it...did do the B&B a bit last year but thought I'd focus on getting all the corners upgraded and gardens ready then really focus on doing it..I do enjoy it though..

Didn't get anything done last night, stopped in at Bernie's..omg I just can't believe the difference in him..he's so joyous, a friend Johnny Hill who does stone work was there doing a stone fireplace..he started last Friday, omg it's soooo nice...he said if I wanted stonework done on the front of the house, he'd come and do it for me when he gets slow in the construction this spring..wouldn't mind doing that..we'll see...

no sooner got home and had company...Cathy and her mom Rita came over, they'd been ill all through Christmas holidays so last night we exchanged gifts..ohhhh you should see the pretty fairy I got for the garden..solar light and all.. almost too beautiful to set out..don't I say that about all my treasures...

It's 27 degrees here, left the house 1/2 hr. early, did the Walmart thing, sweater and wool, can't believe how much wool that afghan takes lol..where is scrap wool when you need it...didn't take me long so I took a different route, enjoyed the scenery ..

Going to go to pick up mom's wool at Michael's on my lunch hour..Suzanne asked if I wanted to go see Leap Year at the movies tonight..told her I'd know how I feel more towards the end of the day, hopefully we will..

I've been doing zilch except sit here and sit on the chesterfield at home..felt fine, a while ago, started to do a few things, up, down, in the back room and the pain (more like an ache) started up again sooo will call Dr.'s office shortly...

LindaKay that would be fantastic..you know me, always up for CrackerBarrel .. have you ever been to Frankenmuth?
