That's Entertainment!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Never saw Seven. On my list.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Spacey as Bobby Darin was an excellent performance by a master.

I agree Ric. I think its just pure, unadulterated greed.

Arlington Road and Farce of the Penguins going on my Netflix list.

Shawshank is right up there with The Green Mile, and recently added Benjamin Button. Those stories about the human condition really intrique me.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

did not care for american beauty and most of spacey's work - saw him in darin, pretty good movie - will watch morgan freeman in anything, he is a real pro.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

venu..the only game I heard of was the one with Kevin Bacon, he has been the supporting actor in so many films you can link lots of films through him. Don't know how it actually works thou.

Fairfield County, CT(Zone 6b)

Seven was my step-daughters favorite movie. I'm more of a Fargo type of girl. LOL!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Still think today's movies don't compare to the good old days. Too cookie-cutter. Too much special effects instead of real acting.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

There's been very few movies I would pay money to see in a movie theater for awhile now. A few years back I just got fed up with feeling 'Jipped' when I left the theater. So now we get a movie or two now and then from blockbusters or the like or even better still the library. We made a nice collection of 'old' movies with real actors like John Garfield, Susan Hayward, etc. so we always have something good to see if want.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i think you are right victor - although i do like the special efforts for entertainment

anything russell crowe or tom hanks are in has acting

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I'm not really a Crowe fan. Hanks is great. Even some of the great actors seem to have completely lost their touch. DeNiro is horrible now. Just quick paychecks. He was phenomenal years ago.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I'm a real Classic movie fan. Real acting is far and few between today. We very rarely go to the movies to see something. TCM is my favorite channel! How can you beat something like 'Cape Fear' with Gregory Peck and Robert Mitchum! They don't make guys like that today...LOL Russel Crow in Gladiator is close though!!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Fargo was great.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Agree about TCM and Cape Fear (actually the remake with DeNiro was pretty good), but not with Gladiator. I think anyone could have done that role. Not very demanding. Arnold could have done it.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

True but Arnold doesn't do much for me!! DeNiro, Ah yes indeed!

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

I agree. Acting today is below par from years ago.I was thinking maybe it is the material they are working with.

My favorites were William Holden and Sidney Poitier.Gregory Peck was admirable too in TKAM and Duel In the Sun.

One of his later good ones was "Other Peoples Money". In it, he says the grace over a dinner, that I have copied and use whenever "I" am prompted to say the grace at a gathering.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

All greats. Also Richard Widmark, Jack Lemmon, Orson Welles, James Stewart and so many more.

Anyone see The Uninvited, with Ray Milland? Great movie.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I loved the Univited, great movie indeed...

I liked Other Peoples Money...TKAM is my all time favorite. I'll watch it over and over again. My dogs are named for that one! Harper Lee and Atticus, some day I'll have a bulldog named either Boo or Radley!

Sabrina (my other dogs name) with William Holden, Bogart and Audrey Hepburn was a good one. I was definitely born in the wrong era! LOL

My mom used to say "Bill Holden can keep his shoes under my bed anytime"....wonder what my dad though of that!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Katherine Hepburn and Cary Grant! Ever see 'Baby'? So funny!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Hee hee! I love the classic musicals too.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

That was a good one...they way she kept talking over him!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Love Cary Grant! Underrated actor. Some just saw him as a pretty face but he was very good. Ever see People Will Talk? Way ahead of its time.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Philadelphia Story!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes! A classic!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

The Lady Eve - another great!

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

I don't recall 'The Lady Eve'. Who's in it or what is it about? I remember 'The Three Faces of Eve'.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda. It's one of my faves. See it - you'll love it.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Love Henry Fonda--I'll look for it. Thanks!

BTW--Life is like a box of chocolates--you never know what you're going to get...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

He was so good iin Grapes of Wrath. And Mr. Roberts.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Henry Fonda and Lucille Ball in 'Yours, Mine and Ours' was cute. I think The Brady Bunch (I'll admit I am a fan) was based on it!

Frank Sinatra in 'Von Ryan's Express' was good. Real tear jerker for me every time!

Looked up 'Lady Eve' thought I had seen it...so many good ones.

Land of OZ, CT(Zone 6a)

Yes--and there are some newer movies, that on the surface appear to be fluff, but carry powerful messages--like--As Good As It Gets, Pay It Forward, Nobody's Fool, Almost Famous, and a few others my dementia is blocking.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

First two sound like Tiger biopics!

Dead End was a great one.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

agree the gladiator was a easy role - still crowe was better than any other in similiair roles, including the classic roman movies. And he was fantastic in a beautiful mind, cinderella man, and many, many others.

of course of screen he has been an ass at times

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

I liked 'As Good as it Gets'...Never saw 'Dead End' who's in it?

Russel Crow has made some stupid decisions but is so easy on the eyes!! ☺

Looks good...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Here Comes Mr. Jordan is another favorite.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

That was good...wasn't the remake 'Heaven Can Wait' with Warren Beatty? That was good too.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

'A matter of life and death' with Niven and 'Between two Worlds' with Garfield are my faves in those types of movies.
