Robert Redford...."The Last Castle" one of my favs of his.
That's Entertainment!!
Usually any Pacino or DeNiro films don't make my list because they have to drop the F bomb every 2 seconds.
True, but also true of way too many roles of the past 40 years. But they are still great and not every role has all that cursing. Godfather, Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon, And Justice for All, Mission, Deer Hunter are just some.
Anything with Kate Hepburn.
Yes, she was great. And Betty Davis. Joan Crawford. Barbara Stanwyck.
Two great Mel Brooks ones - Blazing Saddles (One of the funniest films ever) and Young Frankenstein. (That's FRONK-en-shteen)
no hitler in springtime?
Yes, that was good too!
Liked King of Comedy with DeNiro. Parts were filmed in the office building where I met my wife. Or as I refer to it, the scene of the crime.
Funny video! I liked Deniro in A Bronx Tale--filmed in Little Italy, two blocks from my apartment. Godfather was classic. " Monday Tuesday Thursday Wednesday" lol
anyone reading any books? after a few years of refusing to buy cheapo reading glasses, i finally got a few pair and have begun reading again.
recently finished Jon Meacham's book on Andrew Jackson "American Lion" a great president that somehow gets a pass on being an active participant and enabler of the native American genocide - curious how we were not taught that in school.
Also finished "Wild Fire" by Nelson DeMille one of the John Corey character novels - love the way he writes these - Corey is a man's mad and DeMille let's us know what Corey is thinking and why he is thinking it - had me laughing out loud and reading to my wife.
Currently reading a Jon Krakauer (Into the Wild & Into Thin Air) novel called Under the Banner of Heaven about Mormom Fundamentalist Sects - Do not want to cross the DG line here and comment on these extremist's - very interesting and unbelievable the numerous laws they have been allowed to break to this day.
And one more comment about people named Jon of a certain age - i can almost guarantee their birth certificate has an H on it.
Are we allowed to talk about sects on DG??
They sound interesting Bill. I keep promising myself I will start reading (for enjoyment) again. Still have not.
I'm always reading something. I belong to a book club and I get 4 books a month of inspirational romance mysteries. I read them so fast though and always looking for something new for the other 3 weeks of the month, lol
Just finished Patricia Cornwell's "Scarpetta"
Jen, a friend of mine is a writer of romance/crime novels. Here is a link:

"Water for Elephants" Loved, loved, LOVED this book. Richard Gere is another actor I like to watch.
"1776" is a very entertaining history book. I can't remember the author's name, but he's very good at writing factually yet it feels like fiction when reading it.
So you going to get me some?
Ha ha. Just trying to push for her!
I recently read 'Merle's Door' by Ted Kerasote, very good. As was 'The Art of Racing in the Rain' by Garth Stein. That was really enjoyable, and more so if you are a car racing fan, which I'm not, but I truly enjoyed it. 'Have a Little Faith' by Mitch Albom was good too.
Being a NASCAR fan-I may have to get "The Art of Racing in the Rain".
love blazing saddles
I vaguely remember that.
Anyone remember "It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World"?
the guys at my work a million years ago before all the office rules... used to play that movie all the time
a million years ago
Wow didn't realize the movie was THAT old. lol I must be getting old!!!
I love sci-fi, especially some of the old school writers R.A.Heinlein, A.C.Clarke, and Asimov. Fantasy also T.H.White, S.R.Donaldson, and T.Brooks to mention a few. Two of the most memorable are "Childhoods End", by Clarke and "Glory Road", by Heinlein.
Has anyone ever heard of or read H.P.Lovecraft? That guy could give you bad dreams!
LOL Ric
'Forbidden Planet!' (lol!)
Weeze, loved Water for Elephants, too!
Mostly mysteries here or historical fiction.
Stephen King and Dean Koontz are two of my faves...
Wasn't that a great book, Jan? The kind that makes you laugh, makes you cry and a sneaky ending.
hehehe
Just read Sue Grafton's A is for Alibi.
I know she just came out with U is for Undertow
My son's girlfriend just got it for Christmas. So, now hopefully the library will have all the others. What is she going to do when she reaches Z? Maybe go to #s.
King ticked me off with the Gunslinger series, I haven't even looked at any of his stuff since I finished it. Ric
Just picked up a copy of 'The Lovely Bones'...looks lik it will be good.
It is! I read it when it came out and thought it was a page turner. Dont know how the movie compares.
Jan:
Her U book is just as good as the others. Maybe the last one should be "Z is for Zealot", about an avid flower gardener who zaps a neighbor's dog who zigzags over her zinnias.
Where can I see that sight.
I also want a tazer for deer.
watched a Scorsese movie on the rolling stones last night - see the light or something close to that on a show they put on at the Beacon Theater in NYC a few years back - mick can sing better than i thought and the energy he has is amazing (understatement) - richards and woods are not very good guitarists - buddy guy went on for one tune and you could really see the difference in talent - at least richards admitted they were hacks at best technically.
Mick is a great entertainer. Not the best voice, but his energy is amazing. They did not call him a rooster on acid for nothing!
Drugs and some talant made them what they are.
oops we crossed posted
I was a fan.

Don't think drugs made them any better. They have certainly taken their toll. They have resembled cadavers for years now - especially Richards.
OHHHH my yes.I think it heroine I am amazed at how long he has lived on that stuff.
They used to be so cool speaking a language only they knew.
Now the same tactics just make them look like incoherant old men.
It must have been quite a life tho.
