Polly!! I actually looked up Louisiana Iris culture and charactaristics and they dont like my well drained clay soil.
Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 4
in the fall I planted a dozen elephant garlics hoping they will do well
are they more bog irises ?????
Bog irises: Louisiana, virginica, versicolor, Japanese (as long as it's not in frozen water over its crown during the winter), pseudata hybrids, and pseudata crosses, robustas. All are bog irises. But also grow well in regular gardens.
I could use a few of those warm days myself!
Sure, rub it in Allison, since I can't grow alliums, LOL.
Pretty containers, Jo Ann.
For anyone that likes irises, look at this new intro, Zlatolaska. It's on my favorite iris blog from Terry Johnson. This blog, if anyone is interested, changes often, and is a wealth of information.

Here's an iris bud, Shakers Prayer.
Loved all the iris, rhody and specially the bowl of garlic.
Today you all are starting off well with those buds just about to pop open and there is just a hint of color. Nice.
Thanks for the link Polly and what an interesting bud. Cool.
JoAnn I thank you for the idea of a warm July day and a lovely shot of pots with colorful blooms.
This is from early June. Honeysuckle 'Gold Flame' clem 'Jackmanii' and pass a long peonies.
Really pretty, Patti! Love the honeysuckle.
Nice clem, Victor.
interesting site & iris, Polly. I swear that some irises like I. kamayama are more interesting in bud.
Thanks, Lucy. I really like the man that does the blog, Terry Johnson. He's really pro siberian irises, and is really active in the new TWiki project.
Explain TWiki please. Sounds like something technical.
Sounds Elmer Fudd-ish.
True
LOL, Victor.
Here's some info from Bob Pries about it, Lucy, from a sibrob email. I've been asked to participate.
"Here is a new site under development that needs your help. The Americn Iris Society is creating an online encyclopedia of Iris. If you are familiar with the wikipedia than you know what the potential is for this site. At first glance you may think it is only and online illustrated checklist of every type of Iris. You would be correct but it will be much more. There are 65,000 entries in the AIS checklists and ultimately all will have their own page, up to 20 pictures for each and a chance for scores of people to add information. Presntly we have a small crew that in the last couple of monthes have put up over 1,000 cultivars but our goal is to have at least 10,000 pages up before it appears to the world on the AIS website. Presently the beginning of the alphabet has the most entries and medians and MDBs have the most pages up. We need your help to give the Siberians the representation they deserve. I invite you to visit the beginnings and see if you would like to be a part of this monumental venture."
That is SO exciting polly to participate in this project!
Cool.
Thanks.
That sounds like it will be a good resource for people. A lot of work for sure. How nice to be asked to contribute your knowledge.
D-nut that is a stunning combination of blue/purple. I have all those things but not together. Makes ya want to go hmmmm. Of course the allium will probably disappear over winter again.
Definitely a hmmmmm. Love it!
I chose the 'Sensation' because it's supposed to be a faithful in my zone. It was a little too hot and dry for it in that spot though :/
great project polly!
Dnut- Such a delightful combo and photo. I am enchanted with alliums and salvia. Can I use it for my screen saver?
Yes - great combo, NuttyD!
ngam, lovely shot of a wonderful looking spot in your garden. .
Victor, love seeing all your clematis. I keep hoping mine will get busy and produce more than a couple of blooms.
Ge1836, any summer shots make me happy. Love your containers always.
PollyK, that is an awesome patterned Iris bud. What a great project to be involved in.
dahlianut, super color combination.
Here is a favorite patterned flower of mine, Fritillaria meleagris at the end of April 2009. I love the white one too, but I never get a good picture of it. Taking pictures of any White flowers is tough for me. Patti
Great pattern!
Love those Fritts Patti.
I'll add to wish list for bulbs.
Congratulations Polly--It sounds like quite a project.
I wonder why the alliums don't stay, We only have the one which they keep switiching in & out of the genus. It seemed to be gone one yr, but this past spring bloomed again.
Of course jadajoy. I have zippo luck with fritts so far. LUV the checkered ones Patti.
Great shot, WC!
Thanks, carnation I can get to overwinter but those little Dianthus plants I get from HD don't make it! (lol!)
That's it! This puter needs smellavision!
Love those frits Patti. They are a dependable bulb here unlike those alliums.
Bill what a great stand of iris, beautiful.
WC dianthus outsmart me too and I would not even try carnations. That one is a beauty and you should be very proud indeed.
