Countdown to spring! One garden photo per day - Part 4

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Nice yellow alllium! Are those from bulbs?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Yes bulbs, Brent and Becky's to be exact.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Jen.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

you are too kind patti and from pictures of your gardens i have a long way to go:)

wood ash is much faster than lime in breaking down in the soil.

South Hamilton, MA

But there are rocks in the way of more plants.

(Ronnie), PA(Zone 6b)

Jada if you gently squeeze the side of the flower they open up and look like a dragon's mouth....I guess that's where they get the name Snap Dragons!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Ash may break down (structurally) faster, but lime will raise the pH must faster.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Interesting info, Bill and Victor.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thanks Jen! I ordered some allium bulbs and I checked my B&B order and ..nope , don't have those. Oh, well, next year:-)

Luvs...interesting! I never knew that. Will have to try it if they come up.Thanks.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

i'll put my ash up against your lime:)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

We're not that close. I like to be romanced a little first.

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I can see it now, Victor and Wha Waltzing in a Winter Wonderland while debating who's Ash is better than who's Lime. Bly me, 'twould be a sight for sore eyes. Patti

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

One of my favorite movie characters was Harry Lime in The Third Man. Great movie!!

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I have alliums that do wonderfully in my incredibly sandy soil . Many were planted without any amendments whatsoever. Go figure!

Thumbnail by venu209
Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

OOh la la allium! Does it have a name?

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Allison thinks it may be due to my overwatering them, Louise. So it probably has nothing to do with the sand. And I overwater to keep the beardless irises growing huge, so I'll just have to put them someplace else.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jada, I'm 98.3% sure that it is Schuberti. What's really cool about that particular cultivar is that the thingies keep getting longer over a few weeks time. Here it is a bit later in it's life. Looks like fireworks in the garden.

That might explain it Polly. Mine get whatever nature supplies. They're nowhere near the beardless.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

I like its thingies :-) that one is going on the list.

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

That's nice Venu!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

That is so cool, Louise.

I'm getting to the point I can't remember which pics I posted.

Cherry Tree blossoms remind me of Wash Dc and the Cherry tree festival. What a sight! Lovely!

Patti, you went allium crazy! That will be a sight this spring too:-) Can't wait to see pics.

Southeast, MA(Zone 6b)

Lots of nice allium pics. And my goodness that's a load of alliums Patti. This spring and early summer you will have a great show out there.
A true blue iris, really pretty and cherry blossoms against the bright blue sky. Nice!
I will add my contribution to the allium parade although it will probably not show up this year. Purple Sensation bud. Promises promises.

allison nice shot of golden shadows, must be a few years old mine does not look so good.
harper nice kwanza shot - i also have that although it has not bloomed yet - almost lost it in the ice storm last year as it got clipped pretty good by a falling branch - had to trim it back and now it is more than twice a full as it was - maybe in a couple more years
patti what a list:) are there any you don't have? I like alliums

here are some planted around a celestial white dogwood - not sure what type they are, not a tall or big as globemaster, they were a HD purchase

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks. The bee liked it too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks... Bill I just bought that GS last spring at fairweather.. that photo was taken not long after purchase

Nantucket, MA(Zone 7a)

I have been adding alliums over many years. New this year will just be Allium Early Emperor, Mars and Purple King. Here is
Allium rosenbachianum in 2007. It is reliable, with a smaller head and an early one for me. It has a nice look after the purple fades and it becomes a green ball. I like it, lots.

Wha, yours could be a Rosenbachianum or aflatunense Purple Sensation. But only a guess.

PollyK, I like that Midnight Blue's form. Don't have it either nor do I have a Cornus alternifolia Golden Shadows for which I had to scurry off and see what it was.
Nice.one onewish1 wish I had one! Patti
