ICE GYPSIES

Delhi, LA

Hi Guys. Shots and pills with another round tomorrow. Sinus and bronchitis was the diagnosis. Remember Jo, they did routine blood work and her hemoglobin was down from 12.4 to 10.4 in less than a month. She has to be losing blood somewhere. As quick as they can get her over this mess they will start running tests. Wish we were up there with you Lynnie and you could run them. Doc said it was probably a polyp. Wait and see.

WiFi still won't work so have to go to the bed room to hook up direct. No way I can keep up with the posts.

High of 33 with snow flurries all day. Chill factor in the low 20's. Heavy snow predidted for Thursday with a low of 12 Friday morning. Not your ordinary Louisiana weather.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Dang, that's cold! you take care, Jim, and take care of the missus too.

Was watching Antiques Roadshow tonight. A woman had some jade pieces that were her dad's ~ 4 or 5 pieces, worth over $1,000,000 total. Her response after hearing the number was That was cool.

Makes you want to start looking around the shelves...

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Errr - A - Errr -A - Err-r-r-r-r-r-r !!!

(Zone 5b)

Smiley is that your car starting? Sounds like the engine is cold....
Sleepyhead holding out coffee cup...anybody got a refill?
Jim I would happily take care of Jo for you....here's hoping it's something minor.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Good afternoon/morning all,1.15 here, all covered in snow again.Busses arn't running schools're closed ,winter wonderland unless you're expecting to be stuck at work I guess.Started about 8am,so most people had left home by then and so arrived at destination before transport cancelled and roads backed up with stuck cars.
Off to parents in a few mins as shopping needed.Younger son very happy as playing with new I-Pod obviously better than lessons:}

That's it, Joy? That closed down the schools? Pshaw, that would be nothing around here...

Just kidding, I know it's probably a lot for you.

(Zone 5b)

I know we don't even slow down driving for that *grin* but I sure would love the snow day lol

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Morning Ladies. It is a balmy 27 here. This is as Jim said not your typical LA winter.....BRRR

Joy, the reaction would be the same here. That much snow and ice would shut things down. We just aren't equipped for it...no salting roads, snow plows, snow tires, etc. Just a bunch of folk with no concept of how to drive/walk when there is frozen water on the ground...

(Zone 5b)

23 here...I'm still sneezing & sniffling...this cold just doesn't go away.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Slowly but surely the head stuff is clearing....trying to keep it out of my chest....this is certainly the virus that keeps on giving....grin

(Zone 5b)

lol if only people were as industrious....
ok I have to run, I'll be back at lunch time!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Be safe...talk later.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Guess Mother Nature is just kicking our hineys this year, teach us to be bad lol. More snow here, just enough to make driving hazordous and school closings and delays and poor confused parents trying to decide how to deal with that and getting to work. Hang on people Spring is only a few months away!!!!

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Whats New? Oh Jim got his Ole Tom Turkey mouse pad yesterday, and son fixed my printer problem Sunday. He had to download a driver for it again. Joy be careful out there looks awfully slippery to be out walking. Anyone still drinking coffee? Got some here if ya need it.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Morning Flowers...how are ya besides cold?

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I'm doing great Moon, no sniffles and head colds like the rest of you knock on wood. Hope you are snugged in and getting all better.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Was wondering Moon, how far are you from New Orleans? Do you go to the Marti Gra?

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Had to look it up to see what it was all about, so it on TV and was facinating. Here is a good link for the rest of you that might want to know what it is.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mardi_Gras_Indians

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am about 60 land miles from New Orleans. I haven't been to Mardi Gras in NO in years. In younger days DH and I would spend a couple days in NO...then the kids came along and I would not chance taking them to NO. Mardi Gras is celebrated all across the state, but most grandly in South LA. We took the kids to parades in Baton Rouge, Thibodaux, New Roads and Lafayette...calmer safer venues for families. Big City/Big Crowd/Big Troubles. Didn't worry when it was just us...

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Yes saw huge crowds and evidently last for days. The costumes in the parades were impressive. Cops were busting people right and left for different liberties they were taking lol. Hard to control that kind of crowd, but looked like most were having a blast.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Karen, take a look at this link. This is why we didn't bring the kids...grin also imagine a few hundred thousand people all trying to occupy the same roughly square mile of streets.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You do not mess with NO cops at Mardi Gras...the approved response is "Yes Sir." Otherwise, you spend a sad and possibly sore visit in NO jail.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

That was cool Jean, the people really get into it and can tell they spend a lot of time preparing for it.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Noticed that on the documentary, those cops weren't nice by any means and arresting every body and any body for everything.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

This is the parade krewe we took the kids to in BR...Saturday afternoon madness....Very politically incorrect, but never viscious, risque without being lewd...and funny as all get out. We had friends living in Spanish Town (small area just south of state capitol buildings, just on North border of downtown, about 3 miles from our old home)..go early, party, eat, parade, eat, party. roads closed to traffic all day, so plenty of play area for kids before and after the parade.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Yup. They do not give an inch. You either behave or go to jail. Got to be strict dealing with so many people, but for a while the cops got more "intolerant", no slack and "head cracking". almost a jackboot mentality.

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Well not monotonous by any means and entertainment that keeps on going it seems. Great to witness such an event! I can see why it attracts a lot of young folks, got to have lots of energy to keep up with it all lol

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Ok, gonna go catch Dr. Oz. and cancel apt. not getting out in this. Will have lots of catching up next week if its better weather wise. Thanks for the tour, was fun. Will pop in a little later and see how everyone is fairing. Bye Buddy!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) was actually a 'religion-based" celebration....the last big party before Ash Wednesday, the start of the Lenten season. It was originally a two day party...Lundi Gras (fat Monday) and Mardi Gras. But it kinda spread. The official Mardi Gras season in LA is from January 6, (Epiphany) to Mid February...the end date is set depending on when Easter falls. Basically 40 days (not counting Fridays and Sundays) before Good Friday/Easter Sunday) That is considered the Lenten season...a time of self deprivation and repentance.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Stay warm...be safe. Catch ya later, Buddy.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

&*^%$$%$ Car won't start. DH gone.

Walking 4 blocks to work, not happy..-8 outside

Catch you later.
Flowers get the logs going...will need somewhere to put my feet..

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

That stinks JJ, logs are kickin and hot chocolate waiting for your return!

Dronfield, United Kingdom

Hi,everyone, yes, here snow causes a huge upheaval, people expect to drive ,not walk and dunno if it's the cars or what, but very hilly around here and so they often get stuck.Grit supposed to be put on roads by council work teams, but only usually happens on main / bus routes,so if it freezes all side roads and pavements are slippery.I'm fine, good boots are all I need:}Walk to work only takes a few mins.
My sons school closed because apparently the food delivery vans for lunch preparation couldn't get there. My elder son said all the teachers were there,.so I'll bet they were annoyed.
Think the government need to develop a snow coping system,spend more money on grit:}
There is a quite a bit more on ground since I took photo, but nothing ,I know ,to compare to what some of you have to live with each winter.
It's been worrying me what would happen if anyone needed a Dr or Ambulance,if they'd get to them at home ,probably need to use a helicopter!!!
Hope you're all having a good day, back later.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Ouch, JJ. Hope your feet thaw out ok.

Left work and came home to work. Too many interruptions there, I'm on the fun part of the inventory. One of our phone lines is out, creating havoc. I asked one of the salesmen, "what do you want me to do, climb the darn pole??" A bit more colorfully, I might add.

Actually, DD wasn't feeling well & went to the nurse, so I had to go get her. Perfect opportunity to cut out of work. She's fine, though, just needs a day of rest, I think.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Joy, tell them to contact Buffalo, NY. We'll show them how to do it right! Not sure what you mean by grit, but if it doesn't melt it's not good for the sewers.

Ice and snow and hills don't mix. Neither can pick up trucks move around very well, no weight in the back. I drove my brothers pick up truck one year (we lived together) and couldn't get up the slightest incline because there wasn't any traction in the bed of the truck. A couple 50# bags of stuff just doesn't cut it!

Better go back to my inventory, catch you all later.

(Zone 5b)

hello all! just got back from volunteering in daughter's class and the gym...who's feeling the burn? 20 degreees and I'm sweating *grin*

JJ hang on, we'll send Flowers on her hot wheel for you!

(Zone 5b)

maybe Joy means sand? Of course, I'M thnking Grits, because I'm hungry....

Jesup, GA

Mines faster ,JJ's I'm coming! Skidding to a stop now! Uh,Oh, gotta call Flowers for back up I just hit a mail box! Cant peddle in snow and ice. Grin.....I feel the burn Lynnie thanks girl! Keep it up for me,it's realy doing me some good! Hopefully it's nothing serious with your car JJ's.

(Zone 5b)

Dixie that's the third mail box you've hit this month! Your premiums are gonna be sky high girl!
