Forget about her, let's have some fun!
Hate to be the bearer of bad news....
Animals do require a lot of extra work to protect and help with the enviornment. Sometimes I think people don't think about these things when they buy them.
Gita, Snow usually brings out the best in people in rural and suburban areas. I think he would love some of your soup. I usually give my two young neighbors across the street wine when they help me. That's two different families. I haven't seen either of them out today.
Ronnie, I never have the heart to call for a Pizza in weather like this. I always feel like I might be putting the driver in danger. I guess that attitude is bad for the shop owner because you are open, the more stuff you sell validates the effort. Friends of mine open their shops in this kind of weather, but don't offer delivery until the roads are clear and also tell callers that their drivers won't approach doors where the walks haven't been shoveled. They tell the callers to have their $ ready and to meet the driver at the curb. I used to go to people's homes on buisness and would call before hand to make sure they had clear walks areas. If they didn't, I'd reschedule. Those thoughtless people eventually got the message.
LOL, That is a lot of work! They look like they've had so much fun.
They do look like they are having fun. Afraid Buddy is too old and stiff for those kinds of carrying on anymore.
Love all the snow AND dog photos this morning!
Holly, I can HEAR your Buddy baying - great shot.
Here are a few I took earlier. I measured 22" at about noon, and it's still coming down like crazy. This really will be one for the record books... The power's been fluctuating a bit this morning, which has made us a little nervous...
This was out back around 10:40 this morning. You can see the snow piling up on all the bird baths and feeders and baffles. For the record, I've got a 19" rock sitting wall at the bottom of the picture!
It finally quit here. Buddy will not be getting any pottie paths till the rest of the work gets done. There is just too much. I'll just have to watch my step or carry a scoop in the meantime! LOL I got the basics done, but still need a parking space out front so I can try to bring the car around.
Looks like about18" here, I'll post pics later.
Loving all the doggie pics.
Took the above photo at noon. Couldn't send it as Firefox was inactive......I see that now and then--wonder what it IS doing????
It is now 3:15PM. Soup is done and all put in containers....YUMMM!
My neighbor's Son in Law came to shovel MY neighbors walkway and driveway (for some$$$) and I caught him walking back through my yard path (that they shoveled) and asked him to give his FIL a big container of soup.
Thick Split Pea with lots of ham flavor and everything else. For my 21qt. pot, I used TWO ham bones and two huge smoked Hocks. My daughter's husband, mark, LOVES my Pea Soup (and everything else I make) . I told him this morning--"Well--jump in your car and come and get some!"......Teee...Heee......
I still think I got the better part of the deal with MY neighbor.......:o)
The below pic. is from the last BIG snow we just had around in January.....Took me 2 hours to shovel out from the house to the street--and to clean off my car....so i could go to work. It was very light snow though.
This is the last Hurrah! Still, it was very deep due to the snow plow going down the street several times....
Plan to go out tomorrow and see if i can knock some of the snow off of the bushes and evergreens....
G.
Jen--
Nice picture of the cardinal. If it were mor in focus--you could enter it in the Photo Contest--that is--IF there will be one again....:o(
Seems you got less snow than we did....I took a pic of a similar little table here--and it looks like a snow cone....
A bit out of focus--as I zoomed in and took it through my window.....
Beautiful photo Jen.
That's one big pot of soup, Gita. Bet it's yummie!
Neat photo, Jen. I always love to see cardinals (esp. males) in snowy trees - such great contrast. One time, years and years ago, before a fairly large storm (maybe 10"-12"?), I saw a FLOCK of 'em - counted about 22 in a dogwood near the house. Stupid me, didn't realize what a once-in-a-lifetime event that was, and didn't take a picture. It never happened again. ;-(
Gita, you have very nice neighbors! And I'm sure they were thrilled with your soup. Hope you don't have to go out to work tomorrow.
We're officially done! I can see the clear sky and sun going down through the trees - beautiful! DH is going to shovel behind my car...it's supposed to go down to the single digits tonite - tomorrow bright sunshine, wear sunglasses or you could go snowblind!
Realy nice shot, V_W_R!
Anyone out to make a snow man/woman? Looks like good snow for that. I am enjoying all your pictures.
Very nice VWR!
Lady, Am I to believe that you didn't get any snow yesterday & today?
Some did fall last night about an inch, sun was out all day today but very cold. The system that you all got was well to the south of us.
LOL an inch. That's like a spring shower to you.
Beautiful shot.
I'm over it.... it's like the white witch's Narnia out there... it's never gonna end!
It's certainly not going to melt any time soon! And supposedly there's "something" coming Tuesday night/Wednesday... Let's hope it's NOTHING.
Hi all,
So glad to see so many of you here today. These are some of the best snow pictures ever and the dog pictures are so cute. It's good to have a dog in a storm--two are even better, ha ha. It finally stopped here about 3:00 PM and I actually saw the sun through the clouds and blue skies to the west at sunset, and a few minutes ago I looked out and saw a very starry sky. As for the Tuesday storm, I've had quite enough. Pam
Me too, Pam! This is getting seriously ANNOYING... Ooooh, a starry sky? Will have to peek out in a minute.
We had a gorgeous sunset tonight, by the time I got the camera the moment was over.
flowerjen, Ours down here was lovely too, and you're right - it didn't last very long at all.
I can't help it. I love this weather!! Did you all go on over to Critter's thread and see Joyanna in her snow suit?
Stormy--Is that a serious question--or a tongue-on-cheek question???? NO! And I would not try to......
Seen my own kids in that attire too many times....all bundled up and they can barely move....;o)...then they have to go to the bathroom....
Weather wise---More bad news!!!!!! They are now predicting 12"-20" of more snow between Tuesday afternoon and later Wednesday. GEEZ! Have we not had enough punishment already??? Getting clobbered again!
Just dug out (over 2 hrs.) from the last avalanche--now it will be the same thing all over again!
Going in to work tomorrow. Called out Sunday! Don't want to lose all that pay! I work 10-7PM Tuesday and Wednesday. We will see if I can get in!
Today--all major roads are clear. Getting home tomorrow may be a different story. Will make sure I bring a snow shovel with me. I have a Subaru Outback--so I feel a bit more safe with a 4-wheel drive vehicle than most folks--but I still have to get into my driveway!
After next Monday--I will not be able to shovel at all......or do much of anything else weight/stress-related. Medical restrictions after my 3rd. "down under" surgery to try and fix my "leaking plumbing". Can't lift more than 10lbs. for 6 weeks......AAAGGHHHH! That's getting close to Gardening season! Hard--when you live alone!
NO sympathy or prayers needed! Been there--done that too many times! Seems I have --almost--one surgery a year on something or another. Made a list recently to give to all the Dr.'s--it filled a whole page!
Like an older car--something does not work--you take it into the "garage" to be fixed.....Good as new for another year!
Glad I am not going to a Plant Swap--as I would have to decline. A box of seeds does nor weigh anywhere near 10lbs. Working hard to get them all organized and pictures attached to all my envelopes. Have several new ones this year. I have updated my Trade List.
Be well--Be safe--and don't overdo it! If you have help to dig out--GREAT! If NOT--pace yourself! Take a lot of mini-breaks--or be prepared to shell out some $$$$ if you cannot handle it at all.
So far so good with me! I have been able to do it all myself--slowly--but surely!
Here is the "fruit" of my efforts last Sunday morning---all 2+ hrs. this took to finish.
Guess I will be doing the same on Thursday or Friday! Gotta have a positive attitude!
Remember? "If you don't mind--It does not matter!!!!".
G.
Gita, Nothing tongue and cheek here. Can't imagine why you'd think there is. I just love that photo showing her absolute glee at being out in the snow and wanted to make sure that every one saw it.
Good job on the shoveling!
I used to think, "There's money in snow". As the first flake fell, I'd ask to be taken to Grandmas(she lived in town), so I could shovel her snow, as well as as many neighbors as I could get to before the other boys.We even had a routine. We'd knock on the door and ask if the tenant/home owner wanted us to shovel their snow for so many $s. If the answer was yes, we'd quickly shovel a path and return to the door. Then we told them we would be back to finish and collect, and move on till you bumped into the next entrepreneur. When that happened, you did your 100% job and collected your agreed on fee, and worked your marked territory till you were back to your stating point. After the initial surge in the market you moved to case by case scenario, the ones that wanted to get a bargain or taxed your resources (big jobs), till the market dried up. Only then, you went home, finished that job and collapsed till your next meal. I don't know the last time I saw younger teen boys working a neighborhood to earn their own money. I think we fared better for it, and developed a greater sense of our self worth and a definite sense of the worth of a dollar.
When was the last time someone knocked on your door and asked to shovel your snow, rake your leaves, or mow your lawn. Except for the few of us who did it, probably never! Ric
Ric, I even did that as a kid!!
Gita, I assure you, Joyanna can kick up happy feet and wriggle around just fine wearing her snow suit... she loves being slid around in her purple saucer... and at her age, she doesn't need to get undressed to take care of "the necessary" LOL.
Stormy, some of my favorite photos of her are from when we had her outside in the snow! The most recent photo that Stormy is talking about is here: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7536654
Ric, a crew of 3 showed up on our street this morning (young men, not boys), going door to door to see if anybody wanted them to shovel... my next door neighbor paid them gladly, not sure how much they charged. I had 2 adult neighbors and our babysitter help to dig us out -- I paid them in cookies, child entertainment (play dates for crafts while we were all snowed in), and $ (for the teen).
Thanks Jill. I wasn't sure that kind of spirit still existed, even the signs we see changed, from, Will work for food, to out of work since...Ric NLH
Critter, it's been a long time since I checked Joyanna's threads - she is so adorable :)
Gita, good luck with your surgery!
Ric, when we got dumped with the snow before Christmas, there were teenagers going around to the houses where my friend lives in town. I realize times have changed but they told her it would be $75 to shovel out her driveway!! I'm glad we live in the "county", the fellow with the bobcat who made a couple of quick passes through our driveway only charged us $20 :)
