We are at 6 inches now, but we got sleet for more than two hours. It is switching back to snow now.
Barb... it'll be snow up to your... well, you know!
;o)
Hate to be the bearer of bad news....
LOL, Karen! I won't be sticking my "well, you know" out the door for a while, just to be safe! ^_^ I bet your sleet compacted your measurement - I think the weather peeps have ways of compensating for that. But whatever it is, it's a mess!
sally, just checked again at 11 PM, and got almost 10" - yikes. 2 inches in an hour!!! Aren't you guys under a Blizzard Warning tonight?
Sending out warm and cozy thoughts to y'all tonight - let's hope the power stays ON so we can enjoy this amazing event.
ha ha ha, my 'well , you know, ' will probably spend too much time parked right here this weekend! It;s fine crunchy snow, perfect for snowmen and snow forts.. yup my area is part of the blizzard warning, FWIW.
LOL, sally! As I just said on the Daylily forum, I don't' know what would be worse if we lose power - freezing my "well, you know" off, or being without an Internet connection! ^_^
Pretty pics.
Only 1/2" here so far
LOL, sally! As I just said on the Daylily forum, I don't' know what would be worse if we lose power - freezing my "well, you know" off, or being without an Internet connection! ^_^
Dear Lord... Perish the thought!!!
I prepared myself to be snowed in for a few days... food, water, movies, filled the truck up...
But OMG.... don't let the cable go out!!!!!! That's the TV and the computer!
As I said... perish the thought!!!
I second that! (third? ) I stuck the yardstick in the snow on my deck table, now at 13.5 inches. Blowing around now too. its hard to say whats accurate. But I am not volunteering to go to the middle of my yard at the moment for another measurement A ha ha ha this is incredible. We had 22 inches just before Xmas but seems unreal. We were out moving some off the deck and steps thru the day with that one, where this will have to just pile all up till AM.
Not volunteering to go out on the deck at the moment, but it looks like a good foot of snow out there, maybe a bit more.
Joyanna's favorite babysitter was here again this afternoon (we do the "mother's helper" thing -- I get an uninterrupted hour, and Joyanna has a fun play date)... I've hired her in advance to dig me out when it stops, because I've got a bad arm (killed my elbow last night, not sure how). With a big snow, it's usually a neighborhood effort to get everybody dug out, so maybe I'll bake cookies or something as my contribution, or make cocoa until my milk runs out. :-)
Lights just flickered, sure hope we don't lose power. Our development has underground lines, but there could still be issues elsewhere.
Hope you are all OK down there. Too dark to see much yet. But it must really have been blowing last night. I have a fine covering of snow dusting the very protected front porch, we never get snow in that area. The big window and sliding doors are plastered with snow. Going to take a few pics.
Being without an internet connection, by far WORSE! LOL Our snow started just before 7AM yesterday and even though it wasn't accumulating fast by the end of the day we probably had 8". Switched over to sleet around 6 PM, then the winds picked up and it was raining! The last time I saw the clock it was 11:30 and an hour later the power went out :( Rick called it in immediately and I tossed and turned all night trying to go back to sleep. Finally crawled out of bed around 6:45 and 15 min. later the power was back on - YAY!!!! It's still snowing but they're big fluffy flakes and not coming down very fast. Predicted only another couple of inches for our area today but they're predicting more snow for Tues/Wed! Hope everyone gets shoveled out and stays warm :)
GRRR....we are up to about 20'' and it's still coming down strong. What a rotten weekend to have to own a Pizza Shop!!
So the tables have turned LOLValentinesPatrick's. You all are getting my usual winter weather.
We got a lite covering last night, just enough to make the roads a bit slick in spots.
We still have Valentines and St. Patrick's Day to go through, they can be some pretty heavy snow days, or at least thoses are the days we remember most.
Stay safe everyone!
You have to move 6-8 shovelfuls to move 1 shovel length forward. LOL Only 2400 more to get to the barn. Ric
Soups 'a a cooking away!
Well--here are some pictures that i took this morning. Never set foot outside--took them from my window.
How much??? I think we are close to 2' as well. Still coming down---
This one from my BR window---wanted to show you how bent over the evergreen shrubs are along the back. Normally, they are about 18' tall. Wondering IF they will straighten back out???
Here's looking down at the corner of my Patio.
Under that pile of snow are 2 shrubs (Jap. Hollies), my grill, and the "mushroom" like thing is one of these HUGE spools that all-house electrical cord comes on. I have 2 of them--rescued from the trash at my HD.
They come in handy to put plants on or use as a small side-table. Just put something water-proof over the top (like a scrap piece of a laminate) and they look pretty darn good.
They are a great measure for how much snow has fallen as well..
Nice pic Gita, We have tons of birds at our feeders, too. I filled them well up yesterday.
I would love to see my roof. I have an odd roof line with an area that is 2 stories and an area that is 1 story makes for some interesting wind currents. I have wide overhangs that were designed to shade the back during the summer when the sun is high in the sky but let the sun shine in during the winter when the sun is lower in the sky. So I am looking out and realize that there is a big "snow" overhang coming over the edge of the roof line. Probably 18 inches just hanging out there. It's a bit difficult to see in this picture but if you look at the top of the pic the dark area is the roof over hang then the snow overhang comes out beyond that. My windows are plastered with snow so you are looking though that and you can see the snow covered tree line. Best be careful if I go out those doors or I might get knocked down if the snow comes off the roof.
And the last one for this morning---
A shot across the street--NO ONE is moving!
I imagine the HD might even be closed......but I betcha someone is there- like a manager?
I am scheduled to work tomorrow--but I don't think anyone will be there.....
OK! Back to my Split Pea soup.......
edited to point out that the circle you see in the snow is the top of a Peony ring--close to 20" tall.
Also--they just said on the radio that at BWI the snow-fall has now topped 2 feet.

Whew is there a lot of snow out there. DSO shoveled the drive several times yesterday and during the night last night so that it wouldn't be so bad today. We put all of the vehicles in the drive, so most of it would be covered. I remember how deep that last snow was and it was just like Ric described. Each foot of progress required about 4 shovel fulls of snow. We were trying to avoid that with this one. I would have to say that we have about 2 feet right now. The news here really got this one wrong. They were calling for about 6" to a foot in our area.
Philly got hit much harder than expected. It is so difficult to deal with snow in the city. There's nowhere to put it. The whole place becomes a disaster area. It really becomes deadly for pedestrians. It's easy for someone to slip and fall right in front of an oncoming bus or car.
Ronnie, Do you deliver?????
Holly, I love that first photo of Buddy.
Sure do Stormy, what would you like!! LOL Fortunately my Saturday driver is a real trooper and will give it a go using my 4WD truck. Hardest part is getting to peoples houses when they don't shovel. My son will open and I'll venture in for the late afternoon and night time. Tomorrow is going to be the hard one, with the super bowl we are normally busy now with the snow I don't know what to expect.
Heard funny, scraping noises...went tot he door--my back-yard neighbor (a rough and tough man in his late 40's was shoveling my walkway all the way from the back to the front and then he did the no-car-on-it part of my driveway. Said he will come around with his snow-blower to do the sidewalk and such.
What a doll! I owe him something......maybe a big bowl of my soup when it is done??
Took this shot where he shoveled up to my front steps--that's a mountain of snow!!!!! Doesn't show it too well, but it is at least 4' high.
Ric just did a path down back. Part of the deck/steps and too the barn. Now Buddy has a larger area. We can get to the chickie and the coal bins. He measured 23 inches. That is a good measurement in a protected area where there aren't drifts. Hope everyone is doing well. Holly
Gita, thoses evergreen shrubs will recover if not keep in that position too long like for several days, if you get a chance to go out just give them a good shake. Nice pictures.
Holly, Just watch out if that overhang freezes, or of you get rain before that snow on the roof melts, that can cause a lot of damage. Most folks around here will shovel off their flat roofs, wet snow can get really heavy.
Ronnie I hope your driver gets good tips while making a run it that stuff.
Holly and Ric...
I love the photo of your dog, Buddy! It reminds me of years ago when I was breeding and showing German Shepherds. There was a really big snow in March '96... we were living in Blacksburg at the time, and had 8 shepherds. We had dog runs, but at night, everyone came into a garage and crated cause the wild critters (possums, skunks, racoons) would drive the dogs nuts. We had 26 inches out of that snowstorm and had to do the same thing you did for Buddy. We shoveled a path out to a big circle in the year that we cleared... and that was the "potty hole". Too funny!
