Now that is impressive. All I have are two Rat Terriers that can do maybe several a minute.
Rock Swap #2
My BIL drives an 18-wheeler , will that work? ☺
Now I am begining to see a real big trip across America to rock hunt. : )
Good idea RRM
I forgot to add, my husband is still laughing at the picture of all of us traveling across America in an 18 wheeler just to find rocks. : ) Makes me smile!

Yes, we would need a bus for us Rock lovers. I know my husband would just shake his head. He doesn't know about me sometime and I don't either, but it is o.k. This way I keep his life interesting. I bet we would have a lot of fun, getting those rocks.
I got Shotgun!!!
Happy New Year Everyone!
Why Lynn, I thought you were driving :-) We need your expertise up front..lol
My son is used to me and my collecting and he drives an 18 wheeler. Should we ask to to drive and I know some really good places in Calif. Ariz and Nev to get rocks, petrified wood, petrified palm root, etc.
My son is 41, very patient, esp around me and available whenever I need him. Of course, his wife doesn't like that part, but I don't care what she likes. And he's great at carrying rocks for me. He just shakes his head, says "Oh, well she's my mom" picks up the rock or driftwood or waht ever and hauls it for me. He is my son and my best friend.
I guess, i"ll be shotgun for the shotgun. how about that???
Good thing to do on rainy days. We had rain early this morning and then Lots of FOG.
Hope you all have a safe Happy, Healthy, New year. Cause we want to be able to collect those rocks...☺
Well we need the bus for us, a very nice bus or maybe one of those fancy RVs. and the 18 wheeler for the boulders. We will also need a crane and a forklift.
My DH and children are the same. They just shake there heads and let me do my thing. Now that I am in the process of raising worms for worm casting for worm casting compost tea. I think they have called the doctor....I will have to keep my eyes open for big white nets coming up behind me.
We're in luck. My son also knows how to work a forklift and a crane. Heck, We got it made.
Wow, we are ready. Utah has a bunch of petrified wood. We need a committee. What states have what rules regarding picking up rocks, etal from the bare land....LOL.. I think our first meeting should be in????? Sorry, I guess we will have to vote on that. Who is in charge here? How long are we going to be gone? Wonder if we could get Steve Wynn to sponsor us? Maybe Donald Trump, he hates Steve Wynn.
I'm supplying driver and fork-lift operator and rock hauler. Someone else has to be boss. I bet Donald Trump would make a good sponsor. Everyone from this end should ride together out west and pick up others as we go. What do you think?? I know places in Calif, Nev and Ariz for rock collecting and I have a rock hounds book that tells us other places. I'll bring my rock hound books along. OK?
Sounds great. Does Donald have any money left. See where his ex just lost her 40+ year old boy toy. Surprise. She needs to take up gardening.
She's harvested quite a bit from the Donald, raked in big money and composted the boy toy. Another boy toy will come along, we can be sure.
In Wis. A bit further north then I live. In the spring when the fields are plowed there are rocks growing like pumpkins! The sun just shines on them and points the way. Of course you will stumble on some running across that field to get to the perfect one! LOL But it is true.
I have rock piles at my house if you'd like moss on some of yours.
I have none of those skills but I can bring chocolate!
Who is Steve Wynn? I'm having a difficult time picturing Donald keeping control of a bunch of excited rock collectors. Does he know CPR? I could see if Warren Bean would sponsor us.
I will start scoping out places in Oregon. Some fabulous rocks and stones here (mountains, desert and beaches) all within a 3 hour radius.
Maybe rutholive and pixiedish can scope out places in WA. I feel a huge adventure coming on. : ) Makes me think of when my parents would caravan South during the winter and camp out in Quartzsite. Hope I'm spelling that correctly. They would bring such beautiful rocks and stones home.
Think I'll see if my DH wants to trade the Toyota Tecoma in for a Dodge diesil extra large/wide bed, truck. Maybe rent a large uhaul trailer to pull behind it?
Ya, that would work, lynn. I never got to rock hunt in Oregon. Northern Calif has some great beaches to collect rocks at. Also out in the Mojave Desert. WE should go to the Mojave early spring or late fall. Temps run over 100 during summer. No shade. No water
I have never been to any of them, you'd have to put me in a cage! I want them All. Don't know where I'd put them but What fun to worry about having too many rocks from different states. YeeeHawwwww!!!!
There are places in the Mojave were you can get petrifed palm root pieces, geodes, all kinds of interesting rock shapes and sizes. I know where to find diamonds, opal, and agates. In Eureka, Calif you can go up to Trinidad Bay and pick up agates off the beach. Hey!! As long as we'er there lets add driftwood to our collecting. They have great driftwood there and they don't care if you take it. Some of it is redwood.
Sounds like a winner to me. Wouldn't it be great?
One thing nice about it up there is that you can walk the beach for miles and usually see very few people. Not like southern Calif where you can't walk the beach without stepping on someone and you have to watch out for gangs who claim that piece of beach is theirs and they will hurt you even kill someone for walking there. I don't like going to the beaches in Calif. To much problems.
Lynn, you are cracking me up!
The Mojave sounds like the place to go!
We could start a website and ask for donations to sponsor our cross country trip. People do it all the time. We could be the "Grey Haired Rockies", trying to get to the Mojave before we kick the bucket! if we get enough we could rent one of those fancy tour buses like the movie stars use and go in style.
Just a dream for the new year...:-).
Lordy!!! Don't forget me, I want to go!
Bucket Trip-we want to collect the rocks before we "kick the bucket"
YeeeHawww!!!! Let's go!!!!
Of course your in rrm! If we get enough we could hire a driver too and make HIM pick up the rocks..HA!
that is Right. We need someone to lift and move those rocks.
I may have when I was younger but the older I get, the weaker I get.
But it doesn't keep me from wanting.
Hey!! My son is going to drive and handle the forklift. AND he's great at picking up rocks.
Great! Then we can give him the driver fee:-)
Just talked to my son and told him I volunteered him for a job driving us around to collect rocks and driftwood. He says Ok IF he can bring my 3 year old grandson with him. I told him Yes! Ok with everyone?
Boy, will that Kid be roten, by the time he would get home.
Nobody could stand him. Three is a good age. I love him already..
There is a beach up by Port Angles, on the straits of Juan de fuca, that is called Agate Beach. It's in a State Park and the whole beach is tiny sea washed gravel with agates of all sizes all over. Just lay on the beach and search all day. One day a gray whale came in to see what we were doing. Lovely.
That's near where Tillysrat lives. I lived in Poulsbo from 1941-1955. Your old place is probably still there. It all looks the same now as it did then. They have a beautiful nursery there now also.
We lived there from 68 to 72. Next door to what is now a Bed & Breakfast. Not sure where the Nursery is, it wasn't there when we lived there. The Bergsagle's (their place is now the Bed & Breakfast) were our neighbors. Not sure I spelled their name correctly. It was such a beautiful valley to live in. Not much in the way of rocks in that valley. : ) Really good soil. We farmed it with horses.
