Rock Swap #2

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Here's my cat. I believe he does indeed need a touchup. Poor little
fella. Can't remember when i painted him -will have to see if I dated
it. I think I had to wash this rock down good before I painted him too.
It is sort of square, rectangle-ish

People just do not understand rock people. I will see a rock and I am raving and they see nothing and looking at me like I am nuts.

This photo is not a rock but a pier in San Diego Mission Beach. Same example. They had wrapped the pillars with canvas. The canvas had something stuffed between the canvas and the pillar. I was walking by and came to a screeching halt. I was in total awe of the beauty before me made by God and mother nature. The orange that had bled in is from a very large bolt and nut rusting above the pillar. I looked around to discuss the find with all the other individuals walking by. There were more than 20 individuals in 10 minutes and no one stopped.

Nice cat! Here's a pic of one of the "shell rocks". I really like those!

I like your shell rock. That is neat. Wonder how they formed??
Yes. I look at these rocks in wonder and they are just incredible and you can't help but wonder
"how in the world did that do that?"
Thanks, I believe I may have to re paint him.
I like the "Pier ART " too.
Such a wonderful world of wonder.....

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

It's to bad more people can't just stop and look!! There are so many wonderfull things in the world to see. Maybe if more people stopped and looked, maybe they'd stop trying to kill each other.

When I look around outside, I see interesting knots in trees, an interesting rock or plant or just an interesting cloud in the sky. I love just wondering around looking at things and wondering how'd that happen or what a color. Of course, people think i'm crazy, but than I tell them I'm not crazy just a little nuts. It keeps me from completely loosing my mind.

I have been following along (a bit sporadically..snow removal and all) ;
Would Love to be included in a swap.
I even brought a few up on the deck before the ice covered the snow..some that I had traded plants for or had gotten at yard sale...will clean and take photos and notes.
Will chat more later..it is a no sleep night..but need to try again.
LindaTX8-that sure looks like it could be fossilized scales from a dinosaur..
Will tell my tales later....sure glad that I found this and followed..I get kidded a lot about my little raised rock mound gardens :)

Donna, we are actually in Annandale, VA. The snow is almost gone. : )
My sister lives in Wentachee which isn't to far from you. We used to live in Wenas Valley between Ellensburg & Yakima. Tonasket is such beautiful country. Small world.
MarciaGeiger, welcome aboard, I will add your name to the trade list. Hope you got some sleep. Can't wait to see your pictures.

This was so fun to read when I got up this morning.

Love the shell rock. The cat rock is so cute. I might have to try that. One year when my neices were visiting a craft project we did was them painting on rocks. They had so much fun. Never took a picture of it.

Yes when I talk to people about rocks or gardening you can see their eyes glaze over!

My Brother did bring me this large rock rock from Mn. I just love it and have found 2 smaller ones to put by it. Will have to see if I can find a picture of it!

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

OOH, that house rock is adorable, marti!

Love the kitty rock too.It looked like it was waiting to be turned into a cat by its shape.

Welcome to all the new rock buddies! Hopefully soon, we can get this show on the road and exchange some goodies. I was thinking swap buddies might work. Choose between 1-3 people and send them a package of what you have. This way it will cut down on postage and folks get what they want from that area of the country.

Rocks are not like seeds. Each one is different, so this way noone is disappointed. I can pair people up from the list or you can send in requests.

I was thinking of starting another thread just to post pics of what you got to trade so folks would know exactly what they are swapping. We can continue to chat here, but use the other just for pics of rocks to be traded.

What do you think?

Joyce

That sounds great Joyce. Good idea. I will be back home Wed. and will start posting some pictures.

Great! I will start the new pics thread soon as I hear from others.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Great idea. Glad some one got a good head on their shoulders. Mine just "rocks around" up there.....lol
I am so happy we are getting a following of Rock Lovers. Isn't it Grand, Girls????

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Good morning rock hounds. For my little brother's 60th birthday I gave him this small Neiman Marcus box with a big bow. He was oh you should have not done this. Then he opened the box and there was my favorite rock. I had given it to him. He knew it was my favorite so it made him cry. He is one of those brothers that is always there if you need him.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

That is so Great!!!! I love it. You have a very
sweet brother, I am sure. Such a good sister.

What a great family memory story Sharon.
RRM, it is grand that our list is growing. : ) Rock people are so fun and intersting. Just like seed and plant people. I never met a rock person I didn't like. : )

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

Thank you. I love painting on rocks. I also did a barn as a Christmas present for a friend a couple of years ago. He has it sitting outside on his front porch. I painted a birdhouse for his wife. She loved it! Every year some little bird nests in it and she loves watching the babies grow and fly off.

Jim Falls, WI(Zone 4a)

Just have to find my rocks under the snow! LOL

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Ves522, better wait til Spring. There is no great hurry.
There is no Time Schedule here☺ aren't you glad.
I love retirement, no time clock to punch, do as I wish.
If i get it done o.k. if I don't o.k. no one to worry but me....hehe

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Yes, I agree. Everyday is the weekend.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I am new to retirement and still occasionallly feel a little guilty that I don't have my nose to the grindstone and my body out of the rat race, but am getting used to having my time to myself.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Me, too. But it gets better with each passing day. I will have been retired 1 year this Dec. Would not go back for anything. Learning to enjoy all my friends here at Dave's. I really do enjoy it. You will too.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Sharon - I just love your attitude! From now on I'll think your way.

Retirement is good for the soul.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

And you have more Peace of mind too.
No racing to get things done because you are on a time Schedule.
AWWWWWWWW!!!! Sweet Bliss...☺

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Yes, but the first year is a duzzy. You go from 100 mph to zero. I really did not know what to do with myself. Eventually, I figured it out. My friend up the street failed retirement. She retired from the school district and was off three months. Does not garden, has no children. She had no idea what she was to do so she called the school district and they took her back. She is a physiologist. Takes care of the troubled children in school.

I started getting every thing back in order but still have a way to go with the house. Tomorrow is another day. Our temperature did not make it out of the 40s today so DH had to walk the dogs. I do not do cold....

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

I guess my problem is that I did not have anything to do when I got here. I was stressed out from working at a convenience store on the graveyard shift and putting up with the drunks and idiots that run round all night. Yes, we sold beer, wine and liquor as well as gasoline and groceries, soda, candy etc. I got so tired of telling drunks that I could not sell to them and than putting up with they yelling and cussing me out. Heck, I didn't make the law or the store policy, but I was the one that had to face these fools every day.

Now I don't tolerate fools at all. I could just slap some of the ones that I run into at WalMart.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

LOL! I'm imagining a drunk getting slapped.

Its funny that it takes so much adjustment to figure out how to relax. I actually felt guilty for staying home and decided to finish my degree. But now that is done and I am so relieved its like retiring all over again. There are so many things I want to do in my home and garden that I know I'll have no problem filling the days.

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I've been retired since I turned 49 and I adapted rather well. Now that the gardens are done it's time to do some areas over again, which I find interesting and challenging.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

The last drunk I dealt with before I quit working was giving me a hard time and I was getting pissed off. Anyway one of the customers that has known me thru the store for 4 years came in and told this guy that he shouldn't mess with me. His exact words were.
"You don't want to mess with that grandma!" When the drunk asked why, he said "Cause, she'll kick you ass from here to next year and I'll help her." The customer that said that is a biker and was in full Hell's Angel gear. The drunk left. LOL.

And yes I do miss some of my customers that became friends. A couple even call me once in a while to see how I'm doing and if I need them to come out and kick "a" for me.

LOL. Thats what friends are for :-)

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

I love it!! I used to work in a Convenience store too. I know what you are talking about and that Graveyard shift is a tough one.
Regular customers do become great friends and the rest don't matter. Sometime: you gotto kick butt! Can't make them all friends.
but you do miss the good ones. flowers, rocks, and just basic gardening are very good hobbies to have and enjoy. You can always take your aggressions out on a weed or go get a rock.

Somerset, KY(Zone 6b)

That's what I love about gardening. If I'm upset or mad, I can go out and take it out digging up an area or beat up a weed. Than later I get a pleasure out of the wonderful flowers that grows in the area and it heals my soul. Working in the garden or just wondering thru one is the best way I know to be close to our Creator and find peace in my soul.

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Brrrr It is cold ou this AM. Went to mailbox and the wind is blowing enough to let you know
it is winter time. Calling for Rain tomarrow, better watch out I may get those Snow pictures in the woods yet!!
Just a matter of time. Now that will be beautiful.

Hi all. I am back home, without any DC rocks. : ( To much snow.
Got home to snow. Wow. It is supposed to be gone tomorrow so will start taking rock pictures tomorrow and post them. Can't wait for the fun time trading rocks.

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Hi Lynn!
Hope you had a good time! I will start the pic thread soon and post the link here. Can't wait to see all the goodies:-)

Will start posting pictures as soon as the picture thread is up and running. : )
Thank you so much Jada for doing all the tech stuff for all of us. Wish I could have met up with you while I was in VA. It would have been so much fun to meet you in person. : )

Newport News, VA(Zone 11)

Thanks Lynn. Your welcome! Its not a problem, really.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

My neighbor has a magnificent boulder. Think we could trade it without his knowledge??

I'll bring the backhoe. Does anyone have a large truck? Our little Toyota truck probably won't be big enough.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I think I can borrow one. Maybe Bonnie and Clyde of Rock theft across the USA. I have my automatic machine gun that will kill 40 rats in a minute.
