It is a wonderful shade of pink Cmoxon....
Oh miss Catscan you are so correct,,,,We sulked and we ate and we sulked and we ate... I gained many pounds.... I actually (Hiding in shame right now) bought a dozen of eggs to try the flan recipe with some Gingerbread cookie mix instead of flour, well maybe half and half, just to see what it would be like... Who knows it may turn out wonderful, then again, It may not, but there are always some hungry cowboys down the road who will eat anything....
Sitting at my desk sulking, and thinking of ways to make Gingerbread Flan and maybe use the Gingerbread in the crust of Jay's DDDCEP**P***
Oh and wishing my chickens would lay so I could use real eggs....
Offical Muffler Sulking Section (and other Various Chatter)
I'm not surprised you make Angels weep, Cat... but I do believe they will notice that you are from the shady side of the tree.
What do you get when you cross Cornnuts with Donkeynuts?
Methane and Compost: the Prequel!
Now, if I can only collect the first and utilize it to heat my greenhouse....

So LoreenH--are you marrying into the Ducknuts? I too have Yarn-Knit Nuts in my lineage--although we always hyphenated the name.
A spring wedding for the Ducknuts--how romantic!
Sadly I am the only Yarn-Knit Nut in my family. I think I'm a throwback many generations, I do, or used to do, all sorts of handicrafts while no one else in my family does any of them. I think I learned them in a past life since I don't recall even learning how to do some of them, like knitting.
No, I will be getting ducks this spring. My DH & I will be celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary this Saturday. He swears he is NOT going to be a DuckNut but he has already built the pen, bought a large dog carrier at a yard sale, has decided what kind of swimming pool they will have, etc, etc. Silly man doesn't know he's already a duck slave, and I'm sure NOT going to tell him. LOL!!
{{what's an, a Maisenass nut??}} beauty........
I think it should be Maizenass... ;)
A long-eared cornpone?
Hark! The angels weep!
LOL
Just helping 'em clear toxins, donchaknow?
Oooooooooooo, Catscan started us on Wassailing! I knew she'd come through!!
Hark the Herald Angels Weeeeeep,
'Til they hear, the sound of sheep,
Peaceful creatures, meek and mild,
Domessssss--ticated from the wild,
Joyful all ye knitters rise,
Join crocheters and spinners wise,
With the ovine host proclaim,
Sheep are best, and shall remain,
No longer shaaaaall the angels weep,
Now we hear, the sounds of sheep...
..........Yer ON!!
Soooo beautiful and seasonal, Moxon!

Jay a poppingnut perchance? The poppingnuts are known for their dancing.
How can one sulk properly when being serenaded about all things sheeply and nutly by the beauteous Moxie? Here I was doing so well, lower lip protruding and eyebrows scrunched down, until I heard the strains of said carol. Perhaps we need a recipe for flan, I having missed it when it was first shared amongst the sulking throng...
As Moxon mentioned, we really should collect our many delicitarious egg recipes and create a referential sticky.....Then the sulkers could find sustenance without interrupting the instruction of the newly initiated.
For you Greenhouse_Gal, TWO recipes...(as previously featured on other silly threads) with photographic evidence of said second recipe added for your viewing pleasure.
Claire's Custard Pie (which has become the Divine Flan)
Sometimes I alter the recipe below slightly. I have reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup, and I have used 6 small eggs (because some of my hens lay little eggs!) and I also added 1 teaspoon of fresh ground nutmeg and eliminated the turbinado sugar topping, which to me makes it custard pie, rather than crème brûlée pie. Next time I am considering adding a splash of Amaretto...
Catscan has used cocoa instead of flour but says it needs tweaking. She also used Splenda instead of sugar.
Grease and flour a 10-inch, deep-dish pie pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
Put the following ingredients into a blender and blend on low for about 30 seconds or until all ingredients look well mixed:
2 cups goat milk (can substitute regular milk)
1/2 cup flour
3/4 cup sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
4 eggs
Pour into pie pan. Sprinkle with nutmeg, and gently sprinkle with turbinado sugar. The turbinado sugar will stay crunchy on top of the pie through the baking process and mimics the flame-kissed top of creme brulee. The batter will be quite runny, so take care when placing in the oven. Bake for 40 minutes. A sharp knife inserted into the center of the pie should come out clean, and the sliced area should stay open and not look watery inside.
Claire’s Addictive and Luverly Egg Custard for Individual Little Ramekin Cups
1.5 cups milk (375 mL) – you can use 2%, 1%, skim milk, goat milk, or even mix with half and half or cream!
1 cup water (250 mL)
2/3 cup sugar
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
4 eggs (or up to 6 if you're using up banty eggs)
Heat the milk, water and sugar until quite hot, but NOT boiling - I usually do 4 minutes in the microwave. Stir to dissolve sugar. Remove from heat and add vanilla. In a separate bowl, beat eggs well. Add a thin stream of the hot milk mixture into the eggs while whisking. (This heats up the egg mixture slowly, because if you suddenly add all the cold eggs to the hot milk, it can instantly cook the eggs and make the custard taste too eggy).
Once egg mixture has been heated by whisking, it can be poured into the milk mixture and blended well. Divide among 6 custard cups and bake at 350 degrees F for 45 minutes in a water bath. (I boil the kettle and pour the hot water into my glass 9x13 dish and set the custard cups in that. The water only needs to be a half inch or so up the sides of the cups). (see attached picture)
Modifications:
Sometimes I use 1/2 cup of sugar instead, to cut back on the sugar a bit. Fewer calories! I have also tried using 1/4 cup sugar and 1/4 cup honey. Oh yum!
Sometimes I add 2 tbsp of instant coffee and blend it in the hot milk for coffee custards.
Sometimes I use almond extract instead of the vanilla extract, or amaretto, or hazelnut extract, or coconut oil, etc. Any flavor you want really...
Optionally, grate in some freshly grated nutmeg and blend, or grate on top at cooking time.
If you feel decadent, you can drizzle some maple syrup on the top of the custard before eating. It’s also nice with fresh berries, etc.
Why dahlia dear--I do believe you are right and Jay IS a Poppingnut. They were very socially prominent during the reign of Elizabeth the 3/4. You don't hear much about them anymore--but just look at the profile!
On the Moxon Divine Flan, I have dusted the pan ( or Rather Billy did when my back was turned) with Land o Lakes Hot Choclate with chocolat flakes, then some made it in the mixing bowl. It gave it a hint of chocolate. Tomorrow I will try it with Gingerbread cookie mix, (I took the day off of work to finish decorating the house and so Billy can ride) and will post the results... Yes this year for some reason, I am addicted to Ginger.. I love the trader joes crystalized (no sugar) ginger. When I was in Phoenix, I managed to pop by a Trader Joes, I was in Heaven... I stocked up and when I checked out the lady gave me a weird look. I explained I live in a po dunk town and dont have a TJ...
still sulking with my store bought eggs...OH the shame...
*sniff, sniff* I don't know how to sulk. All i had to do when i was little was turn on the tears & bat my eyelashes while looking sufficiently pathetic & dad gave me whatever I was asking for. Can't do that when no one can see me! I need scarf, cowl.. something.. anything.. please.please. please pretty please with cherries & strawberries & whip cream on top! I'm freezing here! its so very cold. I'll turn into a little greykyttyn ice cube before long. I think i'll attempt to make flan to at least keep my tummy warm.
Claire, I am sulking but howsomever I am also mightily interested in your flan recipe and may make same tomorrow, sulking as I stir (or process, or whatever...) Right now I'm going to sulk off to read, but I send you a sulky thank you for the luvverly recipes. They shall go in a safe place on my hard drive and shall be cherished forever.
Why greykyttyn--that was just about the best plead I have ever seen. But, sadly, pleading won't buy you any NWD. If you really are constitutionally incapable of sulking, I suggest you hire a sulking surrogate. You will, of course, be required to pay for their flan and other eggy goodies.

:(
ROTFL, such a taskmaster is our Catscan. There is a difference between pleading and pouting in the corner, such that you look pathetic (virtually) and perhaps offer little grumpy comments from time to time to indicate your continued sulkiness. It is an art with which Catscan is well acquainted.
For your sulking pleasure: Snowstorm in Iowa
(that's actually Kelly plowing a track to the barn with the tractor)
a snowstorm isn't a reason to sulk.. its a great wonderful present! We throw the biggest party when it snows (everyone under 40). Because them we can go do our version of extreme sledding. :)
I just attempted CMoxon's custard pie... its got 10 minutes left & it looks very odd... i think i did something wrong. Does it always puff up in odd angles & look like puffed pancakes?
No, it rarely looks like a picnic table--weird and puffy, yes...but that will resolve with time. I think it is even better the next day.
Yes, it does, it will subside when it comes out of the oven and be lovely and custardy.
Well, perhaps yours does, Moxon, but mine never bears the slightest resemblance to a picnic table or any kind of patio furniture. It must be an Iowa thing.

i'm guessing you let it cool too before eating? it is the most amazing custard I have ever tasted, even burn your mouth hot straight out of the oven bc it smelled so good we couldn't wait. The cats keep trying to steal it. Its not hidden out of their reach in the microwave. I did play a bit with the top tho & added a bit of cloves bc i was short on nutmeg.
Thank you! for posting that recipe. I'd gotten from you before.. but it was lost somewhere over the summer. This one is safely stored on the computer now. :)
It is so much better the next day... I made it the day before Thanksgiving for the family dinner... It was YUMMY
I measured my foot.. it is 9-1/4" from tip of toe to edge of heel
the ball of my foot is 9-1/2" around my ankle is 10" around. I usually wear a 7or 7-1/2 shoe size.. I do shave my legs on a regular basis so no extra room is needed for pingers.
DH has now put in his request for claires custard.. darn-it!
We got no snow today.. but a bunch of rain.. it is cold and yucky out there.
Got it.
Dainty. Bluish Purple.
Are we thinking functional day wear--or something a little more whimsical and suitable for a winter evening?
Whereas Me thinks Frans is a Whimsical person.....
I was planning on having a few slices for tomorrow for whatever company shows up for coffee time.... but i went back to the kitchen & mom ate 3 slices! So much for sharing.
We got lots of rain.. lots of it. Its very cold.. winds are up to 40 mph... it sounds like snow out there but i have not seen one blasted snow flake!
Share? Share! At the height of his flan addiction my DH was going through 2 flans a day.
I am afraid we are responsible for the rest of the country's miserable weather---the news keeps saying it originated here and is sweeping eastward, heading inexorably toward New England. We are having very hard freezes--so of course my Nankin surprised me this morning with two chicks that she has somehow managed to hatch out in the freezing rain and cold. Nankins have to be the best mothers ever.
Thats great Catscan... and thanks for your cold weather...
Whereas I think I am going to turn in... Goodnight fellow sulkers.
oh brrrrrr on those babies claire..
Someone guesed me perfect.. I am more of a whimsical person.. but as a sulker I believe I would like to chage my mask of the day.. and go dainty daywear... that way I can flash my dg friendships and nut-family.
MissJ, I too had to break down and (shhhh) buy some eggs.. I took one out to my girls and told them this is what I had to resort too.. they didn't even blink.. just coo'd and asked for a bit of kitty kibble I had in my pocket.
MissC... thank you for the storm.. the snow totaly missed us.. how I do not know, not even a flurry, but we did get rain.. and now the winds are howling.. brrr, my poor livestock, I don't even want to go out and feed and talk to them... I am telipathicly telling them I will be out in a few.
I fed my chickens in the coop this morning; it was pouring out and the rain had pooled all over the chicken yard. The geese were thrilled, but the chickens don't like being thigh deep in muddy water. Silly them. Today it is a bit warm for NWDs but I needed one yesterday. I took GD to Cape May and she wanted to borrow my pink and red NWD. I allowed her to wear it on pain of death if she lost it because I bought it in France, so it is actually a CCA (Cache-Col Appareil). NWDs are serious business around here, as you can tell.
Oh, I forgot. I AM sulking!
Greykyttyn, I will start your NWD tonight. We seem to like similar colors and I have a huge stash of yarn that my DH keeps asking what am I going to do with it.
