Best/Worse/What did I learn today?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yes, believe in fairies and mostly 'earth angels'...the stories I could tell about the kindness of those put on earth to help and support those in need...they cannot be anything else but 'angels'

Guess fairies are similar in kind!

Baton Rouge, LA

Hugs to all my DG Friends....

I will come back and read more..but Thank you all for your questions and concerns....

The Performance Review went very well.... I told DH...that if they said ANYTHING negative that I would of course dwell on it....and that it would ruin my day....well...NOTHING To dwell on....except that they made a point of saying "the new VP wants us to focus on New Business". and "you don't have a problem of getting New Business".... and "we're gonna give you accounts very soon...BUT you are doing so well adding New Business".

Well - I'm on the company website later setting up DH for insurance next year...and I see my title listed as: Account Executive - New Business.

That's NEW.

We'll see what happens but it seems I'm doing Okay.

Hugs to all and back later....

Mary

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Mary what was your title before, because it sounds to me like you got a promotion.

Betty as long as you take care of it I think it's fine. My dad has gout and he doesn't take care of himself at all, there was a long period that his diet was beer. I just hope I don't get kidney stones. That's what I don't want!

I believe in Fairies! And Earth Angels! Betty that's awesome, I hope Shirley is able to get here and read it.

Baton Rouge, LA

Hey Crissy -

Thanks a bunch....Not to be negative...but in a way ...it could be a "demotion"...because if they think I'm great for bringing in new business....and don't give me any existing accounts...then it'll be a harder job for me....

It's a mystery...I'll hope to find out soon what is up....My title before was just "Account Executive".....

I do myself believe that there is a layer of angels......fairies...or perhaps....ghosts....what have you.....My Mom has talked to me....but seldom...I wish more....but she has talked to me.....once.....for sure and other times unless those have been wishful thinking by me....

Hugs to you all,
Mary

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Congrats Mary, I knew the review would go well!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Congratulations Mary, am sure that it was meant as a promotion...some have ability to make people comfortable enough that they want to do business other not..so would imagine you are excellent at your job and that's why they have given you this prestigious title...

Sometimes Mary you can feel the loved ones who have passed on so very near, knowing they are watching over you...I had quite the experience with Roger once...if I didn't believe I sure do now...

Crissy, let's hope it's a short bout of gout and it will not return..feel bad for you sweetie..know how active you are...with Christmas coming maybe you can stay off your feet for a bit and rest it...

Well, coming home last night wasn't fun...in some areas which were worse than others you couldn't even see the road, had to stop, let the wind gusts ease then continue..that's why I take back concessions...

It has been much the same all night, hoping Andrew will be here to plow bright and early otherwise I'll not get out of driveway for high drifts..it would be a get to work late and leave early kind of day...

Usually I leave early, but I think I'll wait until 8:00 just incase Paul calls to say stay home...a full day of appts. so he just might try and go him himself .. we'll see...until then, I'll sip a coffee, put some granny squares together and enjoy..

Ohhh Audrey..did the matress stich on the blocks, can see a bit of the color I'm using to put them together but nothing on the top...think sewing them versus crochet-ing them together makes more sense for this project...coming along...having a party a week Wednesday for all the painters and want to give it to her then so now I'm confident without a lot of effort it will be done...

Off to watch the storm

Two woman's faces. Those are neat Betty. You be careful in that weather. HUGS BEV

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bev, how are you and Scotty doing..think of you so very often..more so when I'm in the kitchen and I see the treasures you gave me to take home...I cherish them..

Yes, photo 1 is of a lady, facial features are formed by the pink birds...

The second one, do you see the two horses?

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow Betty, those are neat! I need to go downstairs and get some breakfast, got to take 6 Prednisone pills, two at breakfast, two at lunch, and two at dinner. Makes it hard because I don't usually eat breakfast, and just snack and what-not for dinner. Tomorrow it's down to 5 pills, then 4 pills, and so on.

Hopefully this takes away this gout, I'm determined it is, and it doesn't come back when I'm through with these.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I love those paintings!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Home safely for the weekend, lordy those roads were treacherous..could do with some shopping this weekend but unless the forecast changes, it's inside for me..

Stopped in Midland to pick up 3 month coverage for Kyle's telephone..he'll be 14 on Monday and might be the only change I get..then picked up the making for a nice stew...bbrrr, time for comfort food..

Not a lot to see on my way home, including the road....lol

Hugs to All -

Thanks Betty for the Compliments...I hope you are right...but if they expect me to only bring in new business..they need to give me some recurring accounts to manage as well......so I can make the income I need.....

We'll see....soon.......

The Company Christmas party is tomorrow night....it will be a good chance I think to hang out with everyone and find out what is really going on with this company...It is a GOOD company to be at....

Crissy - have you definitely determined that it is gout? I heard some of the folks I work with complaining of that....is it something that is aggravated with the winter months?

I am so upset to see my Hibiscus looking 'burnt" at the ends...I just have not kept up with freezing months....maybe I can save them somehow....

Hugs to all,

Back in a bit,
Mary

PS: Christmas Parade Sunday....and the kids want (me) to cook Fondue for dinner....so I guess that will be Sunday as well......

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Dear Betty:
The pictures are very good. I think that is neat when you can draw one thing and yet see something else in the picture. We are done with our snow for now. I'm sure we'll get somemore soon. It would be nice if it warms up a little.
Well, today was Tubby's first day at rehab. He did wonderful I think. I'm very proud of him. He is quite tired right now, but eventually that will get better. We will have therapy tomorrow again. I know we are still aiming for discharge by Christmas. I'll keep you posted on how he's doing.
You take care and Hello to everyone! God Bless you all.
Tubby & Shirley

Baton Rouge, LA

Shirley - I am praying for you to be discharged before Christmas....I know Tubby would like that...

Hugs and Prayers to you all,,

Mary

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

So Happy to hear that Tubby is doing well at rehab. Tell him to keep up the good work!

Bill built me one of his custom bikes for my birthday!!! I haven't had one of his frames in over twenty years, and he promised not to sell this one!!

Laura and I went shopping at eleven....met the family for dinner at six thirty, then went back out until after ten. We are exhausted but did manage to get a lot accomplished! Going to call it a night. Talk to everyone tomorrow.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Shirley, do you think it might have been all the kisses and hugs you passed on to Tubby from us? Bet it was..lol..you tell him, more are coming, he's just got to keep up his efforts in order to get home for christmas...prayers going out to both of you!

Mary, hope you enjoy your staff Christmas due tonight...can see you've blended right into that company..fondue, omg..bought a beautiful set a few years ago, thought I'd do fondue's..where is it..still in the cupboard unused..wish I could share it with you...

Trisha, aren't you the lucky one..your very own personalized bike from hubby..you'll have to show us a photo..oh/oh did I miss your birthday..sure hope not...

Sounds as though you and Laura enjoyed your shopping time together...not many weeks left is there...

I have the portraits framed and can't seem to find a box large enough to fit each one in so I guess it's bubble wrap and wrapping paper...should do that today...

Was up extra early, am waiting for daylight so I can shovel, Kyle came last night and did some but with high winds it's right back where it was..told him to wait but he wanted to get it done for grandma

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Have a quiet weekend planned, just flitting from one project to another...my goal, other than shovelling this morning, is to make my December quilt block, Rita who is Cathy's mom and who comes here and let's the dog out, left a few pairs of track pants asking if I'd shorten, so that's on my to do agenda...

In a corner I had completely forgotten the 2 golf scene cd cabinets I wanted to give the boys so got them stained ready to paint and IF by any chance I've time left, it's putting grannie squares together for Darlene's Christmas gift..

Maybe it's better that we're snowed in..must check to see if they've opened our highways yet..no visability, major storm..
This morning so far it's peaceful and I just love the snow as it sits on branches, christmas decorations etc.

Well, can't linger right now, outside is calling..

WIll drop in on my next break...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

PLEASE don't let me put off the painting of these cabinets...stain has to dry before I can start but if you don't hear me gabbing about the project, drop a reminder will you..am sure then I'll start to feel badly and get at it..lol

Isn't that what friends are for.

Hello everyone. I am back form the knee Dr. He told me I have several things wrong with my knee, but we are just going to sit and maybe do some injections, before another surgery is talked about. So I go in Tuesday, and get the first shot maybe.
Betty, sounds like you are never at a stand still. Love the paintings the ladies are working on. Love the hidden pictures. Wow, you are really getting the snow up there. If you have to go out, please be careful?
Shirley, so glad to hear from you and Tubby. Nice to hear he has started rehab, and the road to recovery! Will be waiting to hear you are at ho me for Christmas!
Mary, most hibiscus will come back the following year. Just cut them back, and wait to see what happens. If they are in pots, you could bring them inside maybe?
Hope you all have a great week-end.

Sage is here today. She is weaving pot holders then we have several projects to work on. I miss having her around since she is spending most weekends with her mother now.

Started out birthday shopping yesterday (another year older) didn't get myself anything....got Sage a loop loom for weaving pot holders, and flannel jammies with feet...my house is much cooler than theirs and I cannot get her to keep sock or slippers on. The kids went in with me and we got Bill a Sony Reader....can't wait till Christmas, now maybe he won't run out of books!

Haven't decided for sure what color to paint my bike...playing with a few ideas...I will have to get a picture of it now, then I will do another later when I decide on the color.

Well we have lots of projects to get to work on so talk to everyone later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

LindaKay, is his prognosis much as you thought it would be? are the shots cortisone (?)..painful place to get a shot..let's hope it works and you'll be dancing a jig for Christmas...

No, can't stay still but even keeping myself as busy as I am today, it's like playing and relaxation..

OMG lost the pattern book for the gold cd cabinets...all of a sudden I remembered that I put a few 'to do' projects (some I've wanted to do for some time) away in a drawer and yes, that's exactly were the book was...

Mom called me, she's at the cottage, Jim is taking all the trim off of 16 windows (kitchen and living room) because workmen are coming in this week to put new ones in..he's busy as can be, she's still not feeling the best..imagine almost 4 weeks since she's gone to Rama gambling so she must be ill with the flu...

Asked me what I was doing, told her putting the afghan together..oh/oh forgot she had all the blocks made and wanted me to do same for her..told her after Christmas I would..

She's planning to go to Florida end of January - 4 weeks..imagine almost $1,000 for health insurance...guess that's part of the reason she's not spending 3 months..

Asked if I'd like to take her somewhere just after Christmas..think we've outdone Buffalo, asked me where else we could go for 3 or 4 or more days so will have to think that one..know she wants to get some shopping done, why, have no idea..she does NOT need 1 more thing..lol...

As you can see, my quiet times are filling up..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Trisha, you just don't know how lucky you are to have a grandaughter to spend time teaching the important things of life and bonding..sure wish I had one..not really into hockey, snowboarding and hunting..

Keep saying I'll go and register as big sister then I don't...

Birthday shopping, best I go check when your birthday was/is..sure hope I didn't miss wishing you the best of this important day...

Bike..how about candy apple red???

How has Laura been feeling?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hey Betty, Doc said my knee just needs more time for healing. He said I had a small cyst on the medial miniscus, and right now, he does not ant to do anything for it, but said to keep an eye on it. So bcak to my regular knee dr on Tuesday for a steroid injection, and hope it does something. Better than surgery I guess. So I just got off the phone from talking to my dad. Told him, I will come to get him for the new year, if the Dr, says it is OK!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well you just have to behave LindaKay...

Your father must be excited at the thought that he'd be home for the New Year..he's been away quite some time..am sure at times having him is overwhelming but you miss him terribly I'm sure...just don't be doing all that driving if your leg isn't well enough..does it hurt more when it's in the bended position?

Evening is here, you can feel the temps drop rapidly..no snow today, actually I opened the front door for a few hours to let the sunshine /light in..

Put 5 rows together on afghan 12 more to go..takes longer than one would think..it's something that I can do at work this week so I'll do other things tomorrow...

Am tempted to run into town now that the droves of shoppers are most likely headed home but it's sooo comfy here, quiet, fireplace on, stew ready for supper..lordy think I'd best take a bath, get into my jammies and just enjoy the evening wether it be doing something or just watching t.v. - what do you think?

Drats, should have bought hot chocolate..that would taste yummy right about now..

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, that stew sounds good. Todd has a brisket cooking in the 18 quart oven roaster. That is what we will have for tomorrow! I have home made pico in the fridge, marinating. Can't wait!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1059952/

Betty are you in the dish towel swap?

Baton Rouge, LA

Thank you Betty and Linda Kay!

Happy that the knee will be better without surgery...LK...

Had the company Christmas party tonight...and then left for another party. Wish they could have been two separate nights.

I really had a good time...more than past parties...DH & I don't EVER get out...so was a rare night for us.

Tomorrow ...is our little local area Christmas parade. I plan to walk with the High School Band... It's the "Second to last" time I will get to see DS play with the Drumline.....and I'm praying we'll lose this crazy cold rain and get a few rays of sunshine out....

Then I've promised the kids to make Fondue. Betty - I 'inherited' my Mom's old fondue pots... I suppose there was a time that Fondue was all the rage...the 'lastest thing'...(Mom was born in 1940...so maybe when she was in her mid 20's?) . I remember us having fondue growing up....so making it for the kids brings Mom back to me.

It's really amazing to me that teens are requesting it as they are....I mean..it's truly very simple... Meat...and Cheese.

Betty - You've got yourself some Wonderful Grandsons! Remember ...very soon they will be bringing home some sweet girlfriends who will "OOH and AAH" over all your projects...and you'll have 'your girls" then... :)

LK - I think I cut my hibiscus back in February of last year...does that sound right?

Hugs to all,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

What a sweet though Mary, one can only hope! However, think I'm a bit old fashion for that..was watching 'Sell that house' you know where people come in for open house, geeze they run down the people's decor, well yesterday a woman had a home decorated much in the style of mine is, I'd say french country..you should have heard the terrible comments...I can't get over it, they are there to purchase house NOT contents..lol - guess I know what they'd think about mine..kids always say, day after funeral, big green garbage bin in the yard..know they tease but not far off..

You enjoy your fondue today, you just might tempt me to take mine out over the holidays, doubt I can remember how to do it..this new one comes with a recipe book so that might help..

Hope the weather co-operated for your parade..they hold all of ours in November, most likely because of snow storms in Dec...

Well, did you manage to get any feedback re this the 'title' next to your name? lol..was nice that DH got to meet some of your new co-workers...did you get to dance up a storm?

Linda Kay I'll go check out the link..you are encouraging me dear lady...that's ok I'm all caught up so just might put my name down..

Trisha, how did Jade make out with the loom?

Waiting for daybreak, time to shovel again..there was chances of freezing rain today, not sure if they've changed the forecast..do hope so..more treacherous than snow storms.
Must give Starzz a call, see how she's doing .. think the storms are heading in her direction..

Another day of staying inside and playing..
Hope you all enjoy your day..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sage spent the night again last night...we have several projects to finish today. She is doing great with the loom..I think she is working on number six or seven.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You'll have to share a photo Trisha..I was thrilled to see the angel she did...great crafter she's becoming thanks to grandma...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

This is Two of her pot holders....we are hoping to find some loops with with some nicer colors...

OMG Trisha, thought the loom was for wool..is that material she's using??? now you have to explain..maybe Sage can teach this old gal something..lol

Well I've had quite the day, almost time to call it a night..was relaxing but not quite what I expected...

Early this morning I got a call from Bernice across the street wanting to know if I was okay, if I needed anything..she and Cliff didn't see all the lights outside on all week so thought I musn't be well..nope, my boys were saying I must drive the neighbors crazy with the Christmas lights going to the chritmas music so just didn't turn them on...

She called a little later and said she'd come over for a visit, said she knows I don't stop UNLESS of course I have company then it's no crafts, no computer just enjoying their visit..guess she stayed about 1 1/2 and said after coming here it put her in the Christmas mood..wonder what she did for the rest of the day..

Melanie called and asked if I'd like to come over and have supper, ooops already had a big stew on, she had her meal done as well so said perhaps another night..they are going tomorrow night for supper at her moms for Kyle's 14th birthday so it would have given me a chance to visit with Kyle...

Kyle called about 1/2 hr. later and wanted to know if there was anything I needed done, said he had all day to himself and would gladly do chores for me...nope, nothing..think he was disappointed..lol sooo a little later in he comes, walked the 2 miles to my house, asked him why, said he just wanted to visit with me..I would think perhaps it was more his knowing I had a birthday gift for him...too cute..

Told me he had been shopping all for for Christmas gifts for mom/dad (already made mine) and also took several names off the community wish tree and bought gifts for young children in need...such a kind young man..no wonder I'm soooo proud of him...

We got talking about those who don't have as much as we, just how blessed we are...in talking about the many stars still on the tree needing gifts, we went into back bedroom and I've a bag with gifts on hand, so I gave them all to him so he can bring them to the donation box tomorrow...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

As we sat and talked about Christmas he went on to say the other boys will love the telephones that they are getting for Christmas...asked him how he knew what I had purchased? said 'well grandma, you said you had their gifts, I noticed on the refrigerator a magnet from the telephone store in Midland, you just don't get one of those unless you buy phones...' talk about smart these kids are today...second hint he said 'mom and dad told Noah he wasn't to go into town and purchase a phone as they think he's too young' said 'grandma, he's the same age as I was when I got mine, so I'm sure it was just an excuse because either someone or they were buying the phones'...can't hide anything can one..lol

Just put row 9 of rows 15 together on the afghan...I'll bring pieces to work and get them put together in lengths and can attach to the blanket in the evenings...almost there...

Kyle loves taking photo's as well..this grandma sure isn't photogenic..lol

Best of the day...visitors - both family/friends and Noah won his hockey game...

Worse of the day... emotional..one would think with so many years gone by and with Roger dying on New Years that it wouldn't be as hard...but memories have a way of surfacing...maybe it was good to have company..good Lord must have sent them...

What did I learn today...Bernice's daughter is now dating a wonderful man who is church going, caring with her children..it's but 2 years her hubby was killed..glad to hear this Christmas will be special for them all..must take a walk up the road and visit...her home is spectacular..she does staging and would like to do mine, free of charge...maybe in the New year...

So that has been my day..sure hope you've enjoyed yours...

Love the picture Betty. You look so content... What kind of afghan are you making? Is it Grannie Squares? I like those colors together too.
Today was a lazy day here. Would you believe at one point that I just rocked in my chair and watched it snow? It was just so pretty,. Must have been there at least a half hour./ Did a little sewing and a bit of x-stitch. Very relaxing.
Off to watch Home Makeover. I love how people that deserve good things get good things.
Enjoy your evening.......
