FOOD AND FANCIES...AT HOME WITH THE GYPSIES

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Boy does that sound wonderful!!!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Just don't use glue traps...those things are horrible. DH put one out in the shed cuz we thought we had a mouse in there....turned out to be a rat...got his butt stuck to the trap and ran all over the shed trying to get rid of it...cats going crazy, dog going crazy, rat going crazy, I went shopping...grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

LOL moon, too late nothing left to cork ha ha ha, Venice got those traps, they were expensive and GK'ds tripped them and they won't reset but do like the idea as I hate setting the old ones.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Does sound good.
Will you post the recipe please? or D-mail it

Jesup, GA

JJ's I doubt that is a serious question about the duck........But just in case. wrap it in bacon, and baste it with orange marmalade. Of course wrap it in foil but baste it around 4 times with the marmalade while baking it. Hope the Poo's don't hear me. If your not serious I'm sending you my bugs! Grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That does sound good Flowers, save me some, and I zip in for the dessert course....grin

Good morning JJ. How are you feeling today....so far only Venice is 100%...grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

I've used those too moon, its so cruel they cry until they die with their nose buried in the sticky Yukkkkkk I felt like a murderer.

Jesup, GA

LOL MOON! Dont think the corks will work. Might kill some one while on the run. Too much pressure. I'm sure ya get the picture. Very thoughtful of you to offer though.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

I was serious Dixie. Thank you
All my mom could tell me was duck has a lot of grease in it you have to keep taking off.
She's never cooked one either.

So if it is already greasy why the bacon. Or is mom mistaken?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I refused to let them in the house after a gekko got caught on one....no way to save them....cried over that little lizard...threw the whole package of them in the trash.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Thats too sad Moon. I couldn't stand to see things suffer like that either.
Not even a nasty mouse.

Jesup, GA

The bacon gives it a smokey flavor. It's good, trust me........If it looks like its greasy get a ladle and scoop. Ducks arent extremely greasy though. Sort of like a baking hen.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, I am sorry but that is too funny, the trap stuck to the rat and it, the dog, and cat going crazy!!!! So what finally happened? Did the rat finally give up?

Jesup, GA

I'm turning sort of green around the gills again. Gonna go curl up in fetal position in front of t.v. I'll be back a litttle later girls.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I literally left...went shopping and let Jim take care of it....when I got home all was peaceful and Jim said the rat was dead....more than enough info for me....grin

Leicester, NC(Zone 8a)

Sure Here is the Cherry Yum Yum desert recipe for any one that wants it. You can replace cherry for apple or blueberry if ya want.

Ingredients:
two cans blueberry or cherry pie filling
3/4 cup sugar
3 cups graham cracker crumbs
1 and 1/2 sticks of margarine
1 8 oz. pkg of cream cheese
2 pkgs of dream whip ( two comes in one box)

Mix melted margerine and graham cracker crumbs set aside
mix dream whip according to directions on box set aside
Add sugar and cream cheese together and beat in with dream whip

Place 1/2 of crumbs in bottom of 13x9 glass dish or pan
Add layer (1/2 of mix) of Dream Whip
Next put two cans of Cherry pie filling on top
Put last of Dream Whip on top
Add rest of graham cracker crumbs to top and refrigerate

Enjoy from Flowers Kitchen!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You are welcome, JJ. Don't have to worry about white meat eaters with duck though as it is all pretty much dark meat. My MIL does the Turducken every year...a turkey stuffed with a duck stuffed with a chicken....what will they think of next...grin

JJ, your house looks amazing!

I missed a lot, too much to catch up on, but hope everyone's having a fine day, besides the explosions.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hi Smiley....don't forget the bank....grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I remembered, thanks. Villains have been good lately, or they found another unsuspecting bank account. Unfortunately, probably the latter.

Keaau, HI

Good morning everybody! Aloha aku!

So how does one tame a mad little mouse cranked up on tobacco and caffeine?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Let's hope they suddenly got a conscience....grin

Hi Dave...I guess you buy them a motorcycle and a leather jacket...grin

While things are quiet, thought I would put up the new thread....

well, if you give a mouse a cookie....

Sorry. I have a Dave question, if you don't mind.

I am going to make some relatives homemade baskets for Christmas. I would like to try the chocolate. I'm at work, and my copied/pasted instructions are at home, but there's no measurements. Which is fine, I can wing that part, except for the relation of sweetness to ground cacao beans.

Can you give me a guesstimate? I think you had raw sugar, or honey in your instructions. Would it just be to taste?

Keaau, HI

Hi Smiley! Add 1 part sweetener to 3 parts cacao.

Grind the cacao till it is smooth & blended well; slowly begin heating & stirring the mass and add the sweetener. When that is smooth, add vanilla and/or other flavoring. When that is well blended, let it cool and mold it.

Show us how it turns out!
