GOODBYE TO BASIL FOR ANOTHER YEAR

Jesup, GA

It's teak Lynnie. It was a job! I have muscles I didnt know I had. And they are all screaming. Grin

Keaau, HI

Good morning everybody! Welina me ke aloha!

Beautiful floor Dixie! Teak is very tough and lasts a long time.

Still raining here, although the flash flood warning has been called off.

Woodhull, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow Dixie. Beautiful floor and grand daughters.

Hi Lynnie and Dave.
Hope it stops raining soon Dave so you can get your room done.

Son is here to get GS and then this Ganma is going to try for a nap!!

Have nice day everyone!!

Keaau, HI

Another wet day in Hawai'i.

Things weren't too bad here though; the Island of Kaua'i had some life threatening flooding. They aren't very well drained, because of the old soil. Water tends to drain off of new lava quickly!

Hi! Dave, how deep is that water? And where did you take that photo? Is that around your house? I am not too familiar with your part of the world. Is the Big Island the only island that has or had volcanoes?

Dixie! beautiful floor!!! wonderful job.

And just look at those GK's! Lovely little girls and gorgeous blue eyes. You really can tell that they are sisters. And that you are their GM.

Dixie, I am sorry but my begonia cuttings, still don't have roots and 2 leaves have died to crispy. I used distilled water and it has plenty of light. So I don't know why I don't have roots by now. My blackie sweet potato starts had roots about 4 inches long and I put them in water after yours.

It is suppose to rain here today but hasn't started yet. But it is soooo gray.

Do any of you have gnats? Soon after I brought my plants inside, I bought bananas. And I think that is where they originally came from. I noticed that my H&C had them. When I potted them originally, my potting soil was very wet.and now the plants were getting gooey. So repotted them today in 2 small clay pots.

I am getting tiny new leaves on my naked avocado, the one that doesn't have any leaves now. I keep a spray bottle near by so I give it a squirt everytime I go by. Maybe yet it will do something wonderful.

I napped this afternoon. After a while, I heard Kitty's bells and tags clinking on her dish. She was asleep before that. Then she jumped up on my bed and tried to bite my feet then my arms. I gave her a good scratch on her neck, which she really likes. Then she went to the other side of the bed and tried to bite my other arm. And I gave her another neck scratch. She laid down on the bed, went to sleep, took a bath, then stretched out and went to sleep with one little foot touching me through the blanket.

She has NEVER EVER slept on the bed when I have been there!!!!! I know for all of your kitties, that is not a big deal. But for her, after nearly 5 years, that is really a BIG deal!!!!

Trina, you planted up 100 plants yesterday. What were they? What all do you have to pot?

I have yet to finish voting for the photos. I hope many of you can vote for at least a few of them that you are most interested.

Hope all of you are having a good day!

Keaau, HI

Hi Carol, that was a puddle in my backyard yesterday. It's gone now as the rain has let up.

All the Hawaiian Islands are volcanoes. They are still active on Hawai'i Island, and maybe Maui.

Hey is any one out there? Finally can sit on the old duff awhile and doesn't seem like any ones around.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, don't they say that vocanic soil is good for growing things? How long does it take for the hard stuff turn to soil? Or I may have it confused.

Remember when I was asking you about Brom seeds and posted a photo? I looked up to see what they looked like. I definitely don't have seeds! It seems that they are very obvious on a plant.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Hey Dixie, I am here for a while! Is it raining there?

Keaau, HI

Most volcanic soil is ash, which comes right out of older volcanoes.

New flows form histosol (organic soil) from decomposing plant material.
It takes a few hundred years to form a significant amount.

(Zone 5b)

man I've been running kids all day. House needs cleaning. Dinner's in the oven.
Dixie gorgeaous kids, very nice teak floors, beautiful.
JJ are you still napping? It stopped raining here it was pretty warm today. Makes me want to plant more trees.
Dave did you borrow Moon's canoe? Hope it dries up there fo ryou soon.
Venice you have your hands full over there!
Smiley how's it going?

Jesup, GA

Hey V. No its not raining here. It has been a pretty day today. Are you getting rain? By the way thank you one the G. babies compliment and on the floor as well. You to JJ's Dave and all. That floor was work. Just glad it's done. Moving on to other projects. V. the begonia should root. give it as much time as it needs. Don't worry about the leaves. If it roots it will make new leaves.

Jesup, GA

Hey Lynnie had to go to Wally World a little eariler. Bought pair of fuzzy socks.

(Zone 5b)

excellent! did you put them on yet?

Jesup, GA

Not yet. Plan to after my shower. Figured I had to fight fire with fire. Told the Poo's mommy will catch the bad lady that wants to eat them. I'm sure I will be very stealthie once I put them on. Grin

(Zone 5b)

ok, catch me if you can ;) you can skate on your new floor in them you'll never have to dust it again
*grin*
they're safe tonight, I'm making stuffed pork chops.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dixie, I had no idea what you were taking about when you mentioned Wally World. I know you weren't going to an amusement park. I looked it up and it is Walmart!!!! lol

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi all, hope your day has been good.

Dixie, those are beautiful floors and girls! I have floor envy now.

I spent a little time making that snack mustard on the recipe thread. It's pretty good! Then I vegged out and watched 'The Matrix'. and "Matrix reloaded". Go ahead, laugh at me. I love those movies. Get something new out of them each time I watch them. I love SciFi.

Jesup, GA

LOL Venice! Yeah Lynnie they can serve dual purposes. Chase you all over the country side and spray Pledge on the and dust the floor. I'll ballet while dusting! Grin Those pork chops sound good. Who's missing a pig in your area?

Jesup, GA

Hi ya Smiley thanks. Just glad we have finished with the floor. Before it finished me! GRIN

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Good afternoon Folks.

Dixie, what a precious pair of sweeties....Wow on the floor....wanna hobble over and help me do mine?? I'll feed ya....grin

Hi Venice...too cool Kitty. Just takes some kitties longer to trust....especially feral/wild babies. So glad she is coming around.

Hi Dave .....maybe this rain will help those islands that were so dry.

Hey Lynn, sounds like you have had a busy weekend. Hope DH's leg is feeling better.

Afternoon Smiley....did ya have a good day with your Mon?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

it turned out very nice!

a great floor for spinning kids on. we used to do that with ours - they would lay on their side in a fetal position on the floor. take 'em behind the knees & give 'em a spin! talk about giggles...

Jesup, GA

I will do that off and on too Smiley. It's relaxing to snack and watch movies. Love To read Stephen King too. His movies arent as good. Guess because he goes into so much detail in his books.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Hi Moon. Venice, I meant to comment on kitty also. Sorry. It's nice that she is responding to the love you give her. Actually, is yours a he? I seem to remember that.

Day with mom was nice, Moon. FYI - 'Harvey Girls' with Judy Garland is a really bad movie!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Dixie, did you read 'Dumas Key'? I really liked it. I haven't read any of his books in a long time, my SIL wouldn't take no for an answer when she gave it to me to read. I'm glad she insisted, it's really good. I don't read as often as I used to, but it's usually some kind of classic, and it has to grab me before I get started, if that makes sense.

Moon, how was 'night of the living nachos'?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Harvey Girls is no Andromeda Stain or Soylent Green for sure, Smiley..Garland should have tried for just Harvey.....grin

Dixie, with Stephen King, I find my imagination is far better at scaring me than Hollywood's attempts to translate his work into pictures....The Shining and Salem's Lot were a heck of a lot more suspenseful to read than watch.

Jesup, GA

Moon, how did the night of feasting go? Normally I will work or do most any thing for food. One of my favorite pass times. Have to wait on a long and lengthy recovery period . Then I'll help you with yours and we can both get us a suite in the hospital. Grin

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, you are right about Kitty. She is a he!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Had a good time last night. Went to a place called Coyote Blues. There were a couple outstanding things on the menu and some were just okay this is good. DHJim had the smoked (duck shhh don't want Dixie to hear) Quesedillas and said they were great. They make a really good jerked pork tamale too. Most important was being able to catch up with friends.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Hey Dixie, if we do the floor ourselves there would be enough for a spa weekend....and food. Grin

Jesup, GA

Yeah Moon old Stevie's books are always better. Smiley, haven't read that one. I'll have to look for it. Did you read the Tommy Knockers? If you like Sci Fi I think you will like it.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Talking about books. . . My son said he wanted historical or business biographical books for Christmas and birthday which is on Dec. 29. Do any of you know any in that category that might be at GW?

Jesup, GA

Grin yeah Moon I promise you we will need to Spa out after wards. The hips, back, and knees are still singing their mournful song. And I wore knee pads! Not as bad as I was when I woke up this morning. Begged husband for a massage. And he said,do I get one too? Needless to say neither one of us has had a massage.

Jesup, GA

Venice I read the biography on Randolf Churchill, I thought it was a very intresting book. You may want to consider it.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, there is a book he may really like called 'Founding Brothers' about what happened immediately after the Revolutionary War, and how they shaped our country.

Dixie, I did not read "The Tommy Knockers". Before I had kids, I read everything. Someone said 'ever read Peter Straub?', who I liked even better than Stephen King, at the time. Then I had kids, and read parenting books. Now I find it really hard to read novels. Or I'll read children's literature, which are really good. I loved the Narnia series, the movies didn't do them justice - didn't even come close!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Great! Any other book to suggest?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks Smiley and Dixie! Any others?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

What period of history does he especially like? DH is a history buff, he reads a lot of history books. He was commenting to someone the other day about a book titled 'Goodbye Darkness', written by & about a soldier in WWII.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Venice, you might find a copy of WITNESS TO AMERICA by Stephen Ambrose or IRISH REBEL by Terry Golway. You may want to check the yellow pages for second hand book stores. Some times you can get really great deals on stuff there. We have a book exchange here that let's you trade books in for credits towards other books. Another book he may enjoy deals with Abe Lincoln and the Civil War,it is called APRIL 1865,THE MONTH THAT SAVED AMERICA by Winik (can't remember his first name) Jim thought it was outstanding.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll ask him about a few. Gotta go now & get some food. Catch you later!
