My goodness Cookie and that poor baby! I'm so glad he's better now and probably too young to remember that horrid experience. Poor little Guy!

LOL Susan, I've done that before, except the burner I turned on had an empty glass pie pan on it, was waiting for the tea kettle to whistle and heard a loud Bling, what the???? went in there and the glass pie pan had exploded and all was left was little shards of glass, everywhere.

Audrey I'm going to have to try that, I cough all the time, this darn asthma!

Oh Dear Bon!

Cindy I think you are Steve do just fine together! That's so cool, wish my MIL was able to do things, but she's 2000 miles away, very very very obese and says she's wheelchair bound because she needs a hip replacement, but in reality if she would lose some weight I'm sure it would help her move around, plus she's also addicted to Oxycontin, takes so much of it she's constantly in and out of consciousness. She's 80 years old.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Please have Michael give Kathy soft hugs from all of us.....hope this surgery will do the trick.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Steve's mom will be 80 soon. She doesn't walk very fast needs a cane and is starting to forget things and that has Steve worried. He just told me that he talked to her on the phone and she loves it that I can take his humor and affections. Yes we shared many kisses and hugs all day yesterday.

Has anyone heard Toby Keith's song "Crying fo Me" it's about that basketball player that died from cancer at the age of 44? It is so pretty it brings tears to my eye's everytime I hear it. I watch GAC or CMT while I'm in my craft room and there is a video. You should watch it sometime.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

My mom is starting to do that and she's only 61! She told me last night that she only has 12 pictures from her wedding in Feb 2000, that her half sister had a friend who she hired and because my grandmother told her about him. That can't be because my grandmother had Alzheimer's so bad then she didn't know any family members, let alone friends of, she didn't even know me and Mom and we saw her everyday since 1972. Mom got married at the end of February 2000 and she passed away the end of July 2000 from a stroke. Kinda like when in the mid 80's we were standing in line outside in the tree filled yard at the Hermitage in a lightning storm and mom is determined to believe that we watched a mansion across the street get struck by lightning and burn to the ground, there was no mansion across the street, let alone one that we watched burn to the ground. I asked my dad about that one and he agrees with me...
I don't know, kinda scary.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

I have an off the wall question regarding collectables..... I have a framed Dennis the Menace Comic...it is not straight out of the Newspaper, it is some type of pre-print proof with numbers and lines indicating which areas should be what color etc. It is dated 8-7-83. Any idea who I would contact to find out about this item and it's value, if any? It is a piece I rescued from Doris' Estate Sale.....

Trisha, sorry, can't help you there. Maybe someone that deals in art? Maybe a museum, can get you pointed in the r ight direction?
Cindy, glad you had a great time, and hugged all day! I bet that felt good? Sorry, don't know the song, but I will look it up on you tube.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

LK, if you can watch GAC or CMT they show the video alot. I don't know if it's on youtube I don't go to that site

Do any of you Ladies have a recipe for Apple Dirt Cake?? Went to the recipe forum and posted there asking so far no respones

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

I googled apple dirt cake and a lot of web sites popped up. I'm imagining a lot of apples plus dirt in a cake pan, so far not looking good. Hope you find a good one so I can add it to my recipes.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yep I got the same thing.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Ya gotta look for Dirt Cake:

Raleigh, NC

danger averted! it was just my sister's computer's quirk of trying to resend very large files over and over again.

I did do too much in my exercise class. I was just walking, and suddenly strained that bum right side groin/hip area of mine. been ice pack/heating pad and good book all this darn gorgeous gardening day.

Gotta read to catch up. back later.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Lisa, (((Hugs & Prayers))) to you an your family.

Have been out with Sage Birthday Shopping for her Dad. She is now in wrapping and decorating packages.

Apple Dirt Cake....sounds good!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

(((((((((((Lisa))))))))))))) So sorry for your loss, but God obviously needed to call her home.

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

That dirt cake has over 800 calories in one serving! Wow, you could only have a sniff of that.

Sorry to hear of your loss, Lisa. It is so hard to say good-bye to those we love.
(((((Lisa)))))

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone! Coffee is on.

Raleigh, NC

oh my, Linda Kay, thanks for the coffee. I need it on this greyish morning. nice light drizzle coming down. Have more banana bread ready, too.

I'm up fixing to leave for my load of manure. Hope this gal is ready for me.

Franklin, OH(Zone 6a)

Waving ~~~ as I'm off to exercise class.

So sad for you Lisa, try to be happy in the memories of all the good times with her. (((((Lisa)))))

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Lisa, so sorry to hear about your lose. Prayers going out to your family.

Well it is a wet, grey windy day here in North Florida. Actually I am enjoying the weather!! Odd--yeap that's me.

Hope all are well and having a very good day.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Debra, dear, if you are lurking......Happy Birthday!!!!!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Happy Birthday, Debra!!!

(Pegi) Norwalk, CA(Zone 10b)

Happy, Happy Birthday, Debra and many many more.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone!
Lisa, treasure those memories of your grandma. She's in a much better place and reunited with her the loved ones that went ahead of her.

Thanks for the update on Sis Kathy, Cookie. It's a wonder how common these back surgeries are and that tells us to pay special attention to our backs.

Happy Birthday Debra!

Able to stay home today as Murdock went for his intensive chemo treatment.

Had a frustrating day yesterday. Internet went bonkers after I was through with FB and won't let me connect to DG! Arrrggghhh...

Trisha, if there's a comic dealer in your town, maybe you could ask or a licensed auctioneer.

Susan, glad to read you're feeling much better. Cough syrup with no sweetener, that's like drinking straight whiskey... yuk!!

Bonnie, those large files can be pesky!! I've finally 'trained' my family NOT to be sending attachment pic files bigger than 1mb. And if they have a bunch to send, to do so on separate days. At one time, so many were waiting in the inbox spool (pics as big as 5mb) that I have to call my ISP and remove them.

Hi Pegi.. start warning your email buddies to limit the size of attachments, if you don't want any problems opening mail!

Try what Audrey suggested, Crissy. I applied Vicks to the soles of my feet, placed socks over them, and didn't cough all night. Actually, put some on my chest too.

Will you be more happy settling with Steve, Cindy? If he's the one you look forward to being with, then getting along with his mother is an added bonus ;)

Somber weather here, Maid M. Grey skies, rainy clouds hovering... and not much sun thrown into this house for the cats to enjoy.
But it's okay for me as I have cleaning up to do indoors!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Jaye, I think I could be happy with Steve. He is always hugging and kissing me no matter where we are. He likes to come up behind me and lift my hair and kiss me on the neck and sends goose bumps clear to my toes. He was talking to his mom about me spending the night with her so that they can fix me one of their famous apple pancakes, lol. I told him I'm trying to lose weight and you're not helping at all. We both enjoy alot of the same things. He is talking about us going snowshoeing this winter, yikes!!!

Well must get ready for bowling.........Have a good day Ladies.

Wow 95!! Lisa, you grandma had indeed been blessed with a long, long life.

Ida sent her rains here, and pretty soon our lawn lake will be opened for fishing tomorrow! Ida happens to be MIL's name too, and we think the hurricane should be renamed ...... (being nice here :D )

Did some grocery shopping in the rain and am prepared for a week of soup!

GF sent a fantastic pea soup recipe.... now to find it.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Sandy's Hamless Split-Pea soup.

The cilantro gives it a fantastic fresh flavor. Replace it with parsley if you don't like cilantro. This soup is better the second day.

1 lb. split peas
Stock:

2 ribs celery
1 large onion or 1 large leek, cut up (if using the leek, wash it very well after pulling it apart)
3-4 carrots, cut up
Stems from a bunch of cilantro or parsley
3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed
1 Tbs. mixed peppercorns
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. thyme
1 tsp. marjoram
Soup:

1 rib celery, sliced into narrow, short sticks
1 rib celery, sliced into narrow, short sticks
1 green onion, sliced fine
20 sprigs cilantro or flat-leaf parsley, leaves only, chopped
1/2 tsp. turmeric
1 Tbs. Tabasco green pepper sauce
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
1 Tbs. salt
1/2 tsp. black pepper
1. Sort through the split peas and remove any foreign matter. Rinse the peas in a strainer, then put them into a bowl with about gallon of water. Soak overnight, or at least four hours.
2. Combine all the stock ingredients with three quarts of water. Bring to a light boil, then lower to a simmer. Cook for about an hour. Strain the stock into a clean pot, and discard the stock vegetables.
3. Pour off the soaking water from the peas, and add the peas to the pot of vegetable stock, along with all the other soup ingredients. Bring to a light boil, then reduce to a simmer. Cook for two hours.
4. Pass the soup through a food mill, or push through a coarse sieve. You can also strain the soup and process the solid parts with a food processor, stopping short of a puree. Add the near-pureed peas to the soup. Adjust seasoning with salt, pepper, and Tabasco to taste.
Serves eight.
