Best/Worse/What did I learn today? #124
Let's see, Betty - you promised to be my friend forever, and ever..... right? Well, you're delivering on that Every Day ^_^ as is everyone else here.
I feel truly blessed every day to have the people IRL, and Cyber life that I know.
Everyone keeps me on my toes LOL
My life is full of odds and sods (with some ends thrown in there, too lol)

too funny!
OMG Bev, must give Missy some hints on how to play nice with birdies...bought birdseed over the weekend, it's that time of year they are searching for food, not so sure I'll put it out until heavy snow, that's when Missy doesn't go out much..she's a hunter, know it's mother nature but not nice to encourage birds to come feed and then be kitty feed...
Marg that I met at Michael's yesterday did come down for the day, after painting class today she'll stay till I get home, I've a class at 7:00 pm which I'm sure she'll enjoy and then come morning she can travel home when I go to work that way I can enjoy her company tonight..I'm just too excited about our visit..
I gave Baby away to a friend here in town who used to raise cockatiels so I can see her anytime. Her screaming just got on my nerves,
Great joke and good tips for life today too.
Bev...Suzanne here has I believe it's a cockatoo..live to around 100 - Ralph is in his 30's now..omg when I visit it's for a short period of time...that's all you hear is the screaching..and his body dust takes over the entire room...
Waving Dawn..what you up to today?
Bev - I'm so jealous! I want a Japanese Maple so much! . Dh says if I can show him ONE thriving Japanese maple in our area....he'll consider it.
So maybe our humidity and heat aren't good for them.. I suppose...
Hugs,
Mary
I had a neighbour who loved the Japanese Maple and so planted one in her yard. She had a tree pruner come by every year and prune the heck out of it. We had a 30 ft tree in our front yard and she said her tree was being killed by the shade from our tree. After 2 1/2 years we finally gave in and cut down our tree - then she complained that the tree shredding co. left shaving on her yard. I had to hand pick the shavings out of her grass (no other way to get them out!).
Anyway, the upshot of this little story is that Japanese Maples Hate direct sun, and they die when pruned too severely LOL I went on the 'net, and found this out (before I knew about DG), and printed a copy for her. I put it in her mailbox and didn't say a word. She didn't either, but I laughed so hard LOL
That was in Winnipeg, before we moved to Calgary.

Good Morning!
Bob Dylan Concert was incredible!! LOL, I could barely understand what he was sing tho. Well that our Bob D. But oh My Gosh the music was just incredible...You know I never pay that much attention to the variety of instuments, I did at the concert and only could just say wow...
Crissy, sure hope you get to see a concert soon. They are just so much fun.
We went to Rockford for the event which was an hour travel. Our Cousin Joyce, (who comes to Wi. house all the time), opened her home to us for the night. So we get there around 3 o'clockish. Steve did a few things for her as, well being widowed for 11 years now, she tends to let alot of silly things go. like changing light bulbs, etc...So Steve did some of those things...Anyway Our other Cousin and his buddy met up with us there. They are from Sweet Home, Oregon. While Dan visited with joyce, he is her brother...Steve had gone to get some Beer. When he got back he askes me if I've heard the news. No, whats going on? I ask. He says Skittles flew away!! The kids are searching for her...Proceeds to say how she will never find her way back, It's getting cold and I am about to loose it! So, I Txt Liz and tell her my bad news. Thank You again Liz, big hugs to you are always there for me. So anyway, Finally I go into the bathroom where I can just breakdown, which i did all the while praying. Please, Feathers, Carol lead her home. I prayed to God, please, please she is just a baby, let her find one of the kids...The kids were txting to Steve, They didn't dare call me. So after Txting Liz and her prayers going up too, I kept repeating my prayer...Not even 5 minutes of coming out of the bathroom, My phone rings, It's Jacob. They found her!!! Get this, She flew right to Sabrina's Shoulder! She was out in the cold for 2 hours...
Right away i want to know how this happened. Sabrina tells the tale. As usual as soon as she came home from school, she lets the her out of her cage, plays with her and then birdie flys off to sunroom. Jakes on the computer and birdie playes around. Then Alissa gets up to get ready for work, decides to have a smoke. She doesn't realize birdie is out, so opens the door to close the screen door, Skittles land on her should, flys right out the door to p[lay in screenhouse, which isn't there anymore...realizes the openess and flys off somewhere...Immediately they start calling her to comehere, trying to see where she went. Txting Steve, I said tell them to grab the windchimes and some grapes, so they do this...Alissa stayed in the yard calling for her to come get grapes, while Julia, Breenie and Jake traveled the yards shaking the windchimes...So all of the sudden they site her in the tree 2 houses over. Sabrina hops 2 fences climbs up the tree calling for her. Skittles just looks at her and as soon as Breenie got close enough she flew to a higher limb...so Jake comes to rescue, scoots up the tree, gets close enough but birdie saw Sabrina and flew right to her should like Hi. Was about to take off again, when Sabrina screeches don't you dare, grabs her up and shoves her in her pocket. Birdie didn't even struggle, she was just keeping warm. OH MY God, Thank you you, Thank you, I was crying, they found her, they found her! With the leaves changing She blended right into the colors, greens and yellows! Plus, i think she was so cold she didn't know what to do.
But i will tell you, with the Power of Prayer, and kids searching she is home safely, and I am truley Thankful. We will be clipping her wings tonight or tomorrow. We don't want to traumatize any more at the moment. She had the sniffles, so we got some antibiotic. I watched her real close and she seems to be just fine playing in her cage. I haven't seen her sneeze so just to be sure...I think I was more traumatized the she. LOL, and the kids were scared to death over the experience...But I gave them a what for anyway, over the phone and when I got home...First thing i said, was ok who do i beat up?? Don't bother answering your all getting beat up!! Rest assured they will all be more watchful of her...
Well thats my big news and the Worst and the Best.
What did i learn? Power of Prayer, once again on my side...Thank you God, Feathers and Carol, and Liz too! I love you all.

omygoodness - Skittles is having quite the time, isn't she? Things come in 3's they say, and I believe it!!
Had a similar thing happen to a budgie we had when I was little. Used to let the bird out, forgot to put her in, and when we went out, I got inbetween the two doors and Pixie flew out. Never found her - had a huge summer storm that night, so didn't have any hope. She'd have gotten buffeted around in the wind & rain f'sure!
Hope you have a terrific day!!
~Susan~
Mary HD and Lowes sells Japanese Maple Trees, I want one really bad too. They're losing their leaves right now but they're on sale for $70.00 I think, if you wait until they get a shipment in spring/summer they'll be at least $100.00. I didn't know they hated direct sun...
I won't see a concert anytime soon, I was lucky to get Dave to go see Jeff Dunham, who he loved by the way like I told him he would. I don't have any friends here so going with a girlfriend is out.
Judy Clip the Birds Wings! She's too active to be able to fly. I'm not one for altering animals in any way, shape, or form, but if it keeps the bird/animal/whatever safe it's worth it. What a character she is!
Oh Judy, I held my breath that entire story! Poor girl...first the fan, and now this.
Hugs to you...and Skittles. Maybe a blanket around 3 sides of her cage for a couple days to keep her a bit warmer....and quiet. Dang girl.
Debbie
Prayers for our Tubby & Shirley
Morning, ooops now afternoon, just after I was telling the girls on the Workshop thread that I do NOTHING I got so busy that I just now am taking a breath of air...didn't even see the morning go by..
Judy, OMG girl, my heart was just racing a mile a minute as I read through your post waiting to hear what had happened to Skittles..what a mischief maker...lol...yep, I'd clip her wings, know it doesn't sound like a very nice thing to do but it just might save her life..always into something...lordy I can just imagine the state you were in....luckily no one broke any bones climbing up for the rescue...wow..your life certainly isn't dull Judy! Was surprised that Steve told you..had it been me, would have kept it quiet until no chance of finding Skittles...lol..
Liz, how is grannie doing? Know when she's coming home?
Crissy how's your mom..better if she's riding in the front seat of the car..let's hope she's in less pain..
Thank goodness I was busy this morning, it woke me up..getting up at midnight on Sunday night/Monday morning and working on costumes till almost morning..then having company almost every night this week - had friend spend the night last night - waiting to hear if the lump they removed is cancer..had an accident April/hubby died in May and now this, well was up with her until after 1:00am and tonight is portrait night, tomorrow a shopping trip at Ganz in Toronto for Christmas goodies, then all weekend finishing putting kits together for our workshop...somewhere I have to find a few hours to sleep..lol .. that's me though, thrive on go/go/go!
Debbie how are you and the family? Is your furnace fixed - have heat finally..hope so..mom just called, wanted to confirm that we are heading over your side of the border next weekend...got a flyer from the Christmas Tree, boy you created two monsters bringing us there..anxiously waiting to get to the big craft show..am hoping for ideas...will you be driving to it? perhaps we could meet or meet us in Buffalo and come with us? Debbie, guess it wouldn't be hard to find a post office near the Christmas tree would it..do they all close at noon and do you think they'd have about 30 flat rate boxes in stock..is that normal postage method that they would have inventory?so many questions...
Suzanne is leaving early for Dr.'s appt this aft. so I'll do some running around...have an item for Jeff at kayak store to pick up, then some boxes of chips/chocolate bars to go with pop for halloween...
Diane called, meeting her at Cosco after work..will shop until class...
Hope my energy keeps up..lol
Marg my friend who dropped in last night and spent the night gabbing/crafting said I looked the best she has seen me in years...is that a compliment or perhaps not...
Got to go...
Sounds like a compliment to me. Betty, you might want to ask Debbie to round up some of those boxes for you. I'm not sure how many each PO keeps in stock but at least that way you would know you had enough. She could go to two or three POs around her home and collect them. I know my little PO sometimes does not have any. Just a thought so you don't run short.
Yea, I don't have any idea how many they stock. Betty that's definitely a compliment.
Tks...will go on-line and look at where the post office's are..imagine there are quite a few in the area wouldn't you think?
Lunch time...
Betty, I won't be able to meet at all. DD is having surgery Thursday and I will be caring for her for a few days. Not sure how long she will be in hospital, but I will be staying at her house to care for her with her DH. We had both planned to go to the craft show...but not this year. Maybe the Christmas one in December.
There is a company, Mailboxes etc...does postal mailings and such. I will see if I can located one in the Christmas tree shop area. I think 30 boxes is a big amount.
Furnace was finally fixed late yesterday, finished up this morning. A big relief.

Sure hope allgoes well during the operation process...you must be frantic..sending prayers...glad your furnace has been looked after..do you know if the insurance is paying most of it yet?
Thanks for the links...does Mailbox etc. have 'flat box' rates as well?
Beautiful photo Bev...do you ever frame some of them...
Betty, I don't know...I have heard great things on them.
Here is their site with specifics
http://www.mbe.com/ps/index.html
From afar Bev it almost looks like a poinsettia (?) doesn't it? very pretty, as pretty as any flower...you should make up pkgs. of 6, tie a pretty ribbon around it, perhaps a silk flower ontop and sell them..get Scotty to give you a hand, won't he love me for that one..lol
Debbie will go check the site and see if they do have flat box rates...tks
Betty, keep in mind that just about EVERY town in the US has a PO and they all carry these boxes as a rule. If you got 5-6 at each one you could be all set within a short distance.
Started a Stuffed Animal Swap for those who want to join!

Hey Susan - That's good to know. LOL about the old neighbor....just couldn't make her happy....
OMG...my day today was like your day last week. My (new) boss is mad at me I think....Just I didn't handle something exactly like I probably should...I call DH to commisserate and get some verbal hugs...and all he does is fuss fuss fuss at me for being too hard on myself...can't deal with that. I need a HUG!
Crissy - I haven't seen them at Lowes or HD here..but they had a beautiful one at the nursery... $300 ! DH is (uh) Cheap....that's why he told me to find one that will thrive in this area first. I say...hey ...let's buy one and try it out :) Good to know they don't like direct sun...
Judy - WOW must have been a great time..hoping Dylan will come this way. Skittles is sure an adventurous bird....he's given you guys a run for your money emotionally!
Glad all is well.
My thoughts and prayers to all in need....
Hugs to all,
Mary
Barb, got to thinking this aft. that the flat rate boxes only come about 12" or 13" long right..my pieces are far too large..so tonight at Cosco I picked up a large pkg. of 3" clear tape, about 8 in the pkg...bought some tan paper and going to try and pack them as best I can..still ship on USA side and on the postive side, I can have them labelled as well and ready to put stamps on...
Going to do some measuring in the am and decide what's my best route...
Best of the day...watching Marg leave this am and seeing her smile..big day tomorrow, lets hope Dr's say NO CANCER!
Worse of the day...could be worse but could be another best...just as I was leaving portrait class the girls all asked me what I'd be teaching at our 18th annual Christmas Craft day..usually it's held at a hall 1st Friday of Dec. but we've changed it..Nov.29th-Sunday, my house and I do spaghetti..so the worse..lot's of prep time for the class, best side...always enjoyable having all the girls for the day...
What did I learn..that if you keep quiet (was trying not to have the craft day this year) it just doesn't work..someone is bound to remember that we've not picked a date and bring up the subject..if I think I'm tired now wait until November..lol
They so enjoyed last year!
Mary, ((((((((((HUGS)))))))..........
(((((((((((((Mary))))))))))))))))
you've gotten MY hugs ^_^
~Susan~
morning all,
mary hugs to you
hugs and prayers for all in need.
judy, always there for you :) sorry i couldnt yap last night.
glad skiddles is good,
yep clip wings oh poor thing she must of been cold.
scared me too, i couldnt believe it happy ending.
betty, lol another workshop, the girls will love it.
omg where do i begin, i am so thouroughly exausted! with going to the hospital after work almost every night.
well they removed her from icu, put her on the 10th floor and the view is incredible she is feeding herself walking a little bit and basically my uncle (her brother) is taking over her finances, which is what we want, so my mom dosnt worry she fracture her other arm so they did put a small cast on it but she is somewhat alert and still gives everyone the bussiness.
on tuesday was the most horrific series of events kenny and i my mom,sis and nephew were visiting she was good, well we left at 7.15 15 minutes later, the other side my moms brother and wife and daughter came (the ones who did nothing for her and were going to take care of her at home and leave her to die)
they marched in and said you can all leave the greeks are here...
my mom said what do we look like?
the yelling and pointing fingers started my aunt said to my mom i know what your doing and your going to jail, omg it was getting ugly, and all the stuff from years ago starting comming up and pushing ect, my nephew called security and they were escorted out of the hospital, then my mom filed a police report.
my good uncle was so discusted he said a few words to them the next day
gawd social workers called my mom and said the hospital cannot be mediators for this behavior and it cannot be.
my poor granny was so shocked by all of this and couldnt believe all that happened.
kenny was so shocked at this behavior, i told him this is how it was growing up at functions im use to this, i just couldnt believe they couldnt keep their mouths shut for granny and keep their opions to themselves.
but granny was good when i was there last night so hopefully she forgot it or thinks she dreamed it.
now today at work the two that had been fighting are at it again my boss has to be a mediator and let them at it. i told her this is going to be ugly!
and have another correction form ready for me because im going to get drunk at the cash register! lol
i cant believe all of this drama, i need to get on a plane and go pinch skiddles
everyone have a great day
BIG HUGS ((((((Mary))))))
Good Morning.
Linda Kay, so sorry to here about your computer and sewing machine, yikes hope they both get fixed soon.
Mean time Happy Lurking, lol waiving hello.
OMG Thanks for listening about Skittles, yep she is quite the lil brat lately. Oh so so spoiled too. We went to pet smart and got her a new bird proof windchime and snuggle wrap! She seems fine, a little quieter than usual. lol probably knows she's in deep doodoo. Yesterday opened door to replace her water and she quick scooted out! LOL, called her a lil sneaky pete, let her fly about...
OK well today, I am super busy. Finally going to clean that apartment. Betty, to answer your question from days past.
This unit is actually one of ours. Our Tenant moved out and another wants to take over, so I am cleaning the place real well first.
The other, we are going to be renovating and hopefully put it on the market. Not a real good time but, what the heck see what happens, worst case senerio, we rent agin...LOL, I didn't ask about any payment since it's our place, but I am pretty sure DH will set me up with a cleaning fee...But I did end up getting a "janitorial" job for two weeks, I'll lcean up the building 3 times a week for two weeks. Our guy is on vacation, asked Steve to take over. He has no time really so I said I do it!! So a few extra spending cash in my pocket...woohoo, I got aanother swap and the workshope to pay for so, this helps me big time!! Not to mention, something to do outside the house.
Whistle, while I work....
Bev, I Love, love your Japanese Maple, so exquisitly vibrant! How cool your making cards with the leaves!, Please show us when youve got one done.
Debbie, yayaya, you got your furnace back!! Whew one thing down...will keep DD in prayers.
Betty, forgot to say, Yikes, I sure hope all works well with obtaining the boxes, etc. Wow, you just amaze me.
I love seeing that workshope photo, it's kind of fun too to pretend it's all of us, wouldn't that something? Our workshops are a ton of fun, but could you imagine all of us together, what a hoot that would be.
OK, got to get my van loaded and kids off to school...put my apron on and get to work...whistling while I work...Have a good day to all!
hehehe, need another cup of coffee first!
See you later.
((((((((((((((((((((((((HUGS MARY))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I'll be back to catch up.
Mary, DH is right, you are too hard on yourself..can't please everyone all the time, if you did your best than that's all anyone can ask...sending hugs as well...
Had hoped we'd hear from Shirley today..praying to Tubby along with the rest of you!
Brought in supplies for card craft to entertain myself today, wouldn't you know ran out of cards and now I'm looking for something else to do...
Lunch time..ohhh pouring rain, no umbrella..now what?
Waving to all of you!
Good Morning all. Boy, did I sleep in! Feels good to get a good night's sleep!!!
Yesterday aft, the company had a Fire Drill, and as I'm the Emergency Warden, I grabbed my coat and orange vest and went out. Got a little overheated while they decided when we'd go out. Then when we went out, I got a bit of frosted lungs - it's That Cold brrrrrrrr.
Well, 1/2 hr after we got back, I started to feel funny, and when I got home I was doing the "bronchial cough" thingie........
I know I got run down from lack of sleep, overtime, etc, so I expect I was ripe for a cold. It just came on so sudden though.
THEN, last night I read the card everyone got in the mail re: H1N1, and it says a first symptom is an sudden onset of a cold.........oh oh.........trying not to "borrow trouble" but there's a lot of this going around, and if I get any more symptoms, I'm going to the Diagnostic Lab they have for people who feel they may have symptoms of H1N1.
For now, I'll just treat it like other broncial colds I've gotten in the past.
When I lived in Winnipeg, I got one every winter for months on end. Haven't, since I moved to Calgary, in 2006 though, so this is surprising in itself.........
Anyway - just a normal bronchial cold, right?!?! That's what I'm going on, and with my looking after it at the onset, I'll be juuuuuuuuuuust fine!!
~Susan~
