Thank goodness Susan...your experience will teach me to be a little more cautious, you know me, gab/gab/gab...lol...
You'll sleep better tonight for it!
Wow..glad that is settled...
Best/Worse/What did I learn today? #124
oh, now that you have it, and can put it in soil, it'll be juuuuuust fine. I was afraid I'd bent the leaves too much to! lol
It's really quite hardy, but I forgot and left it in water too long, or it was too small (the 1st one, that is). I really wanted you to have this particular plant, and I hadn't had it that long, so the stalk/plant was small, and likely too small to have broken a piece off of.
Susan
and then..........had an "interesting day" at work, got home to a bunch of junk mail, and a note on the door from Purolator Courier. Seems my DH has a letter from someone. Checked online and found it's from The Gov't!! yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!!
(no, I'm not nuts!) It's his Birth Certificate!!! Now he can get his other ID and prove he's a Canadian Citizen (which he has been, from birth!)
And then I got a Signature Block in the mail, from Marion!
Wow - what an up and down day!!! Could I have some more quiet days, please Lord?! Mind you, the B cert, and the Block are wonderful!! And knowing that they're being supportive of me @ work is great, too :-)
~Susan~
Hello To All;
Susan - Im glad it all worked out okay. I don't see where you did anything wrong. Could be that someone in HR needed a bit of a power play? Really glad it all turned out.
Judy - had to laugh at your football game....in sleet and rain and cold. Sounded similar to our Homecoming football game...we were rained on till Half time...and Dontcha know ....the band never sounded better...and they were cutting up in the stands and having a BLAST! Way more fun than I've seen them have in good weather.
Got some of us parents talking about the things you remember from The Good Ole Days are those things that you would never have thought....Seems like you don't talk about those times that all went smoothly and as planned....
Glad to see all my old friends....Trisha, Betty, Linda Kay, Bev, Susan, Judy, Barb, Dawn....and little "sis" Crissy....LOVE your costumes! HUGS to those I didn't mention Luv you too !
Youngest DD is having her "Sweet 16" bday party early this Saturday...it's not till November but she wanted a Halloween costume party ...and of course DH is letting her....SO....exciting weekend planned....40 teens are allowed to be invited...BUT we will be here to chaperone (ugh) hopefully other parents will stay....I've invited a few...
Hugs to all,
Mary
LOL Mary they were cutting up to keep warm! We used to do that in Marching Band, but it was in CA so we never got the sleet or snow, but it sure got cold toward the end of the season. Those were last years costumes, and we wore them in 2006 also. This year I'm not tellin' what we're gonna be until I have pics...
My birthday is Nov 3rd and we get a free day off to take on or after our b-day, I was thinking about taking it off but Ms. Cheerful scheduled a dr appt that afternoon so there goes that. I'll just take that Friday off and she'll have to stay til 5 and I'll get 3 Fridays in a row off! So LOL!
Peeps!! We need to vote for this gal once a day every day until Nov 1st
http://www.qdobaqmmunity.com/Nominee/id/161/Jessica_Rothgerber_Murr
No, Mary - not a power trip. I just never thought, is all.
I'd been to a "privacy act" meeting, and I agree that personal medical stuff should not be bandied about. I was so in shock at what I'd potentially done, that I never thought to say that the daughter had spoken to me in the hallway near the elevator. If I'd said that (and obviously no one in HR knew without me telling them), then there wouldn't have been an issue.
Because we're a Medical Research Facility, people are more sensitive than ever about disclosing medical stuff for privacy's sake.
I won't slough off my responsibility, although I was well-intentioned, cuz I'm old enuff to realize for myself, and not follow other's lead - even my boss'.
The company has faith in me, because of the level of my position (I don't have a manager, and there's only a handful of us that don't), and they've given me more responsibility because they know I can do it.
I'll just have to live up to it, is all.
~Susan~
Hey Crissy - I voted! What a Coincidence....Qdoba is the "Steak and Chicken Fajitas" that I bought for the Homecoming dinner for the Band. I way over spent my budget...but the kids LOVED it! The local Qdoba owner came out and helped me set up....and everything was devoured sans a bit of guacamole which is in my fridge now....
Love their "naked burrito bar"...I think that is what we got ...but it may be something else...
Susan - sounds like just a misunderstanding.. I am so glad you are okay. You sounded so much like me... I usually take so much upon myself...They are lucky to have you there.
Hugs to all and a Good Night....
Mary
Tallulah, sounds like a great story, which I don't know, but the birth cert is a major thing it seems.
Hippa violations are filed against individuals as well as companies and most can not afford them, so I don't know the story but I get sticking to your guns on Hippa stuff.
Betty EDD is Employment Development Department, unemployment basically.
Crissy, that is some costume. If ya got it flaunt it girl.
Received a d-mail from Shirley and thought I'd post..guess I should have gone looking incase she's posted this note:
Dear Friends
Well, it's been a long day. Tubby resting okay. He walked for the first time since last Tues. He did great, has a way to go. They did the TEE today. They found a fistula by his mital valve and some other things, but won't tell us till AM. Talked to the Neurologist, they are going to do some more CT scans in AM. Tubby has so many hurtles to over come, I know he's a fighter, but it seems like one step forward and two back. I'm thankful the girls are here with us and that God is walking with us at this time. His confusion is still there, but it's worse when he is over tired or headaches begin. We want to thank everyone for your thoughts and prayers. We send all our love to you and hope your days are filled with sunshine and happiness.
Thanks to you all.
Tubby & Shirley
Sending prayers....
prayers to you both
Prayers to Shirley & Tubby...... gentle hugs (((((((((((Shirley & Tubby))))))))))
Thank you, Mary. I'm treating this like it's "a thing of the past" ^_^
~Susan~
That's not my costume, LOL That's BettyPauze's Leann.
Tell Shirley we're all praying for him.
My goodness, when it rains it pours doesn't it. I will pray for healing and a good day, one day at a time.
It's ok Crissy, we understand that you let Betty Borrow the costume. She wore it for work one day.
Betty how are all the stomach issues? Did they go away finally?
Where is Liz?
I'm not tellin' what we're dressing up as until we get pics! LOL
hoooooo boy - my family is about to hit "Birthday Month".
my sisters and bother have all their birthdays in November
Evelyn - Nov 6th, Ruth - Nov 20, Alice - Nov 22, Stan - Nov 27th
I'm a March baby - my Mom loves me best LOL
They all loved banana cake (my mom hates the smell of bananas!!), and I love Chocolate!! Plus the fact that my birthday doesn't fall the month before Christmas LOL
~Susan~
I'm grounded from chocolate and anything that's overly fattening, such as Chinese buffet, cake, cookies, fried foods, fast food, stuffing, pasta... you know. I'm so proud of myself, Dave wanted fried chicken last night so I fried 5 thighs and didn't eat a single one of them!! I had already eaten my Lean Cuisine and 40 calorie Green Giant broccoli and cheese, plus it was 9pm, so I didn't get any. He said if I had a light lunch I can eat some this evening. LOL I love dieting with him (he's been on a diet since he was 15, he's 48 now.
Maybe after I'm done with this I will be able to wear that costume!
Hugs and ongoing prayers for you Tubby and Shirley.
One step at a time Terry, yes God is with you along with a whole lot of loving friends.
May you gain strength every minute.
Shirley, Aspecial prayer for you as well, May you have continued strength for this fight.
Terry, I am sure feels all you love, I am so glad your girls are with you and Terry.
Susan, whew, I am glad things turned out.
LOL, Susan, will remember your birthday in March! P.S. put chocolate and bananas together yum.
Betty, Thank you so much for posting Shirley's d-mail.
Mary, lol Know what you mean, ohwah, your dinner sounded like fun and huge success!! Yippee, so glad you got help too.
Wishing everyone A good Morning, a Good Day and Evening and Good Morning again!
LOL, I'll be gone till some time tomorrow...Going to Rockford to see Bob Dylan!
Yahoo.
Morning,
Had company drop in last night Susan, so didn't take a photo of my plant but will tonight, promise..few leaves were broken off so I stuck them in the soil, think they will take? Glad you are over all the trauma of yesterday...
Dawn, still having mega problems, but they can't seem to find what it is, so, best is I just accept it as something I have to deal with..other than that I'm A+++.....ohhh think Lady GAGA is a bit to sexy for me...lol...maybe in my prime but not today...will dress up as an old housewife nag though to shell out..
Are any of you dressing up?
Got home last night and decided to make homemade chicken soup, good for the diet, the posibility of fighting off the flu..Rita and Cathy dropped in for a visit and had 5 phone calls so didn't get to bed until well after 9pm..did I sleep like a baby or what..
Felt bad when Rita and Cathy dropped in, here they had gotten all that remained outside (glass table top, chairs, garden art) put away for me to save me time and I got home, in a rush and didn't even notice....my goodness these people are kind souls....
So as I thank you I've invited them to go to Ganz this weekend which is in Toronto .. not sure if both will take me up on it or not...
Fun Judy!! I want to go to a concert somewhere!!
Mary, so laughing, you never stop do you girl..Sweet Sixteen (and never been kissed) .. they say I'm busy but lordy girl..think you are busier...great idea having it on Halloween...should be fun..
Hope parents stay with you..a fright night, will you dress up...
Judy, can tell you are excited about your Bob Dylan show
Did you get Steve's apartment cleaned? did the owners make Steve in charge of rentals? or just having it ready for the new occupants? money for you to spend on crafts Judy..lol..
Betty - the leaves would be better put in water. They won't "take" in soil.
Just don't leave 'em in water for 3 weeks, if they're little (might not "take" as mine didn't, cuz it was little)
re: hallowe'en dressing up - we have our costumes, but no longer dress up. Bob has a neat Grim Reaper costume, and he looks just like one - 6'3" and slender - so it works.
I have a Vampire Woman costume as well. We have all the makeup, spirit gum for flex masks, etc, but we don't get any kids to our door, so we quit back in Winnipeg and haven't done it in Calgary in the 3 yrs we've been here. His dredlocks are all tangled as is my wig..... would take forever to get them straightened out lol
~Susan~
We dress up every year and go out. The best part is seeing everyone's faces when we show up, we don't tell anyone LOL
Betty, no dressing up here. Not for about 7 years now. Friends get older, and stop having parties. All the kids go to town, so they can fill thoer goody bags quicker. So it is nice and quiet here on halloween!
Sad isn't it..I enjoy watching the young ones dressed up..have the fog going, eerie Halloween music...I'm excited as the kids...nice that this year it's on Saturday night, time to prep...have all the cases of pop, now I need to pick up cases of chocolate bars and chips..should do that tomorrow before all is gone...if it were not for the fact that most won't let children eat home - made goodies I'd make toffee apples...
My heart is just pumping..know what my Best/Worse and What did I learn today is already and it's only 3:20...
A client brought in lunch from his restaurant as a thank you for the great services renderred..so I ate and had my lunch to myself..thought I'd go to Michaels...
BEST.... wasn't there 10 minutes when I met an old dear friend, she lived in MacTier about 1 hr. from my house..when I was recreation co-ordinator I organized events/programs for them and started a seniors group..omg 17 of them were in Michaels shopping, everywhere I turned I ran into someone I know...
Usually I go up to visit with them at least a few times a year..this year I didn't get there...first thing they wanted to know is when I could travel up to them 1 1/2hr drive from the Barrie office and teach them a project...lol..
I agreed if they organized something mid November that I'd come up and teach them Iris Folding Christmas Cards..all were excited that they could make specialty cards for their loved ones...guess I'll get a call after Tuesday meeting to say how many and what date....
I was almost tempted NOT to do the workshops I normally do in November but had a few e-mails today asking for a confirmed date..drats..hoped most wouldn't be interested...
Worse...Marg who always volunteered regardless which Committee I was spearheading told me she found a lump in her breast and had it removed Friday..won't get the results till this Friday...she just lost Ken last Christmas..she looked fabulous and after caring for Ken for 9 yrs. with alzheimers..it's the best I've seen her look in ions...
She'll try and come and spend the day with the girls who paint at my house on Wednesdays, stay over and rest till I get home .. spend the night and go back home once I've left for work on Thursday..sure hope it pans out! SOOOO nice to see them all...each aisle I was in there was hugs to be had....made my day...
They wanted me to call in sick, say I was at lunch and felt badly, went home..nope, couldn't do that but told them next time they are on an outing to let me know..lol...
What did I learn today? You can never get tired of seeing old friends..regardless of how long between visit, it's just like yesterday!
And to see they still want to do projects..they were purchasing glass etching supplies...etc.
They were trying to have me come up once a month to teach but sadly I just don't have the time to drive north every Tuesday..told them once a season I could..we'll see
evenin all,
dawn im here have to read only been so busy with my grandmother she had blood clots removed from the brain this was causing alot of the falling she is 94 and some rotten family members were going to leave her home to die.
by the time they got her to the hospital her blood was black from dehydration and a horrible urinary track infection.
my mother finally stepped in and put a stop to it. as of today she is out of icu and going to her own room two weeks of rehab then home she is quite a bucket of strength!
so im off to go visit her this evening again im sorry about you job and the girls are just adorable.
crissy how is your mom?
hope tubby is good too will pray for him
judy have a good time
well got to go hello to everyone else
Betty, that's what I would call a wonderful day... It's such a good feeling to 1) be remembered and 2) to have them all want you to come to them again... Those are the warm and cozy feelings that just can't be bought!!!!
Saying prayers for all in need. Off to finish cleaning the kitchen.
Liz I didn't talk to her last night and she usually calls at 9pm, so I expect her in 10 minutes LOL
Wow Betty that is so neat!!
Oh oh, I was cold so I took a bath, now I'm nice and toasty but dehydrated! Going to get some water.
Hello To All;
Crissy - Can't wait to see what the costume is this year! Did you see my post re: Qdoba?
Judy - Your Football season is over? Correct? BOB DYLAN! I am so jealous..please send pics....and tell us all the details. What a wonderful talent and tragic life........
Betty - How Wonderful to run into the old group...probably was "meant to be" ...might be some opportunities there to go back and do some crafts with the folks .....
I am NOT dressing up... HA ! the joke I told a parent for the crazy "Sweet 16" party...is ....I'm going to dress up in all black and "hide" in the back yard where no one can see me. The other joke is ..."IF" the girls have invited 100 kids... (40 was the alllowed max...but I've heard word that many others have been invited) then I'm headed out to the nearest local bar....and leave DH in charge. :)
Hugs to all those in need. Tubby & Shirley are in my prayers....
Love to All.
Mary
Gosh Lizard that is so sad. I know your family just takes the cake, but only after mine hogs all the spots in the Cake walk.
Poor granny! She is blessed to have you Liz.
Betty, that is so horrible, it has been so long, I can not believe they have not dug in to find out what it is. Have you tried aloe from the health food store, not as a cure but to lessen symptoms a bit, to aid in healing. It sounds absolutely miserable B. Prayers for you.
Bet your boys are ready for the snowmobile season. If you know any teaching jobs, in private schools or with at risk youth or something over there in your neck of the woods, one of my friends wants to move back to Canada to teach or mentor. She wants out of here and who can blame her. In Los Angeles County they raised the tax to 10% and 10.something if it is overtime or bonus money.
Tubby this one's for you...
Two Ladies Talking in Heaven
1st woman: Hi! Bonnie.
2nd woman: Hi! Mary. How'd you die?
1st woman: I froze to death.
2nd woman: How horrible!
1st woman: It wasn't so bad. After I quit shaking from the cold, I began to get warm & sleepy, and finally died a peaceful death. What about you?
2nd woman: I died of a massive heart attack. I suspected that my husband was cheating, so I came home early to catch him in the act. But
instead, I found him all by himself in the den watching TV.
1st woman: So, what happened?
2nd woman: I was so sure there was another woman there somewhere that I started running all over the house looking. I ran up into the attic
and searched, and down into the basement. Then I went through every closet and checked under all the beds. I kept this up until I had looked everywhere, and finally I became so exhausted that I just keeled over with a heart attack and died.
1st woman: Too bad you didn't look in the freezer---we'd both still be alive.
PRICELESS
Be back shortly....
Tubby often posts ways to live the better life..another for you Tubby!
This is something we should all read at least once a week!
Written By Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the local newspaper "The Plain Dealer", Cleveland , Ohio
"To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most-requested column I've ever written."
My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more:
1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
2. When in doubt, just take the next small step.
3. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and parents will. Stay in touch.
5. Pay off your credit cards every month.
6. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone.
8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it.
9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck.
10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile.
11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present.
12. It's OK to let your children see you cry.
13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it.
15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye.
16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind.
17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger.
19. It's never too late to have a happy childhood. But the second one is up to you and no one else.
20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer.
21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special.
22. Over prepare, then go with the flow.
23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple .
24. The most important sex organ is the brain.
25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you.
26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?'
27. Always choose life.
28. Forgive everyone everything.
29. What other people think of you is none of your business.
30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time.
31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
33. Believe in miracles.
34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do.
35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now.
36. Growing old beats the alternative -- dying young.
37. Your children get only one childhood.
38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved.
39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere.
40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back.
41. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
42. The best is yet to come.
43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up.
44. Yield.
45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift."
I couldn't have said it better, Betty - thank you for posting. It's perfect ^_^
Do you mind, if it's a thread you're not on and I am, if I post it elsewhere?
Susan
What a wonderful day today is!! I finally got enuff sleep, and feel ready to tackle the world ^_^
As of yesterday, I'd only had 7 hours sleep in 2 days, with news about my sister, and what happened at work, I was pretty blasted. Crafting always gets me through (I embroidered over lunch for DG lol), and now that I have DG in my life (as well as other wonderful stuff like the great outdoors), I'm back to my normal calm and laughter ^_^
I'll be able to get onto DG more often at home, cuz I'm not putting in the overtime as much (another reason I was blasted yesterday - been working 3 hrs OT some days),
Beautiful people here, on DG, and I thank you all for being Just Who You Are (warts and all LOL)!!!
I got about 8 or so brug cuttings the other day (from burn_2007), and 2 quilt blocks from Signature Block Swap, and life is good! Betty - I know some of the leaves got broken from the Cane Begonia (thank you Grow_Jo for giving me the original slip - it's doing beautifully), but Betty - when it's potted, does it look ok? Post, post, post pics, please!
One of these days I will post pics of my 2 camping trips to Waterton National Park (Canada side - on the US side it's Glacier National Park). It's a beautiful, natural area, and my DH & I intend on going back next year, A LOT lol ^_^ ^_^
(edited to correct a name - Grow_Jo gave me the Cane Begonia! - thanks again, Joanne ^_^ )

Yes Mary, I did read the Qdoba!
Betty thanks for posting those!
LOL Susan how long have you been saying you're going to post those pics?
oooooooopsie, Crissy........
I know, I know - but didn't want anyone to think I'd forgotten (perish the thought!!) lol
So, this is my way of reminding myself, and getting everyone to push me to get them posted LOL ^_^ Thanks for falling into my trap (mmmmmmmmwahahaha)
~Susan~
LOL I do the same thing Susan, think it's hilarious! Well this is nice, now I'm told that there was a voting I didn't know about and she is uncertain but me and Dave are probably the most likely to divorce. How nice is that to say to someone?
Morning...
Susan, I've been much like you, little to no sleep..got involved in a project putting kits together (a little special thing for the Christmas Workshop gals) thought I'd finish up a few, as I kept working lordy I looked up at the clock and it was almost 1:30am but all were done...got to the post office this morning to mail out that plant Susan...finally lol and bought all the stamps for the kits..postman came to the office where I had addressed each one only 10 minutes after my finishing..they are all in the post office hands now..hoping they will start arriving mid week...
I almost chocked last night, going through a box of projects and here was a beautiful hand painted Victorian Santa that I had promised someone, think it was 2 years ago..won't she be surprised to get it in the mail..posting it on the 6th as well...
Bev, is it a birdie in the tree branches to the left? What kind would he be...love the color of the tree..I've about 4 similar, is it a burning bush???
Best I get some work done before the day ends...lol
