Dave, I repotted the trees about a month ago from a 10" pot to a 14"pot. I thought you weren't suppose to fertilize a plant that is inside during the winter. When I fertilize I use just regular Miracle-Gro.
GYPSIES REMEMBER BASIL...Part 5
Venice if you are worried about losing the Impatiens, you can take cuttings to root for spring.
YUK JJ, Get the salt shaker, quick.

why wont this cat leave me alone?she can be in someone else's lap perfectly snuggle dup and asleep, but the instant I make a flat surface available (be it my lap, on my back when I bend over) or she wants to ride around on my shoulders....argghh so now I have two clingy, needy pets great
Guess who got caught in the rain!!!
Just not my day.
Lets see if I can burn supper!
eeew JJ! That ALMOST affected my appetite! I did think of the old slug thread, though, about deep frying those babies...they look...er...meaty.
Nice tree Lynnie. That has great fall color.....Yea! Lynnie....grin
Is the oak seedling someplace you want a tree? It sure looks happy there. Are ya gonna have to move it?
Lynnie, nice little tree. Sugar maple? Is that tiny tree from a seed or from the root of a bigger tree?
Trina, I know you probably can answer this question. I have never taken a root cutting. I killed those rose cuttings you sent me. If I wanted to take a cutting of this pathetic New Guinea Impatiens, how do I do it?
Talking about getting new trees/plants. . . I haven't been over to Lowe's recently. They should be giving away their things now!
Venice, cut stems at least 6 to 8 inches long, remove all but 3 or 4 leaves, dip in root hormone and you can put multiple cuttings in a one gallon pot. Water thoroughly to settle in, and then keep the soil just moist, not wet. Place in bright light, not direct sun.
the oak must have been from seed, it wasn't there a month ago.... it's pretty close to the volunteer gray birch that came up last year, but I think they'll do ok next to each other. It's way out back near the property line (not too near, like 10, 15 feet away) so it should be fine. The yellow one is a beni kawa japanese maple, I just planted it on the north side of the house. It's a gamble, it was on sale.
Venice HD had 50% off....Lowe's must be having a good sale. I ALMOST bought another pine tree...it looked like a korean fir, but the tag said some kind of pine....shoot I forget...gotta see if I can find it.
Moon, I don't have rooting hormone. I have Starting solution. I hope that is ok. This mixes with water. Water plant now and in 7 days.
As long as you make sure it stays well watered and mulch in the roots well, it has a real fighting chance. Some of the Acers are hardy to zone 4. As long as you have at least 20 feet between the birch and the oak they should be fine.
That will work fine Venice. Just something to give them a boost. Just look at the stems and you will see the leaf nodes. make sure you have at least 3 or 4 of them on each cutting....the bottom one is where the roots will sprout from.
Moon, the whole plant is only 6" tall. Should I just pot the whole thing?
Yes Carol, move the whole plant inside.
If your Avo looks like it is making new leaf buds it is good to fertilize. Some Avocados get productive in Summer, and some in Winter; although they're not used to being houseplants.
Yeah, I had no idea what the actual size was. Jut dig up the whole thing and then keep it in bright light but no direct sun. It should do just fine.
Okey Dokey folks...before this one gets too long.....we have a new thread.
