Trina, I sent you lily "regale" seeds. They are not daylilies, but regular lilies. Like these:

A GYSPSY REVIVAL!
I was familiar with purpose of lenticels, just couldn't remember the name. Thanks Dave
yeah but you and stplong both sent me lily seeds...I know now that one set of seeds is regular lilies like yours, but probably not the same color, and one set of my seeds are daylily seeds like stplong's....see you helped me name something!
and you can't Moon, because I said you can't. or it will just sit in a drawer with venice's!
No Carol, leave them in dark at night. Plants need a dark response.
Often folks raise Poinsettia indoors, and leave them in high traffic areas that are lit up at night. Only to find that they don't produce their red floral leaves for the holidays.
Poinsettia need to be in dark at night to make the colorful leaves.
My plants get as must sleep as I do!
I left my 2 out on the back porch half hoping they'd die, but nooooo there twice as big...they must like the cool weather
In Hawai'i, Poinsettia do best upcountry where it is cool and dry. They form large bushes.
just what I need another Poisonous bush in the house!
ok Dave any tips on birds of paradise and how to grow them?
Warm, moist climate in full sun, Trina
Did you check out the link on poppies?

You don't like Poinsettia's, Trina? I never did, and one year it just hit me how pretty they were and now I like them.
Moon, I meant to mention earlier ~ thank you for the banking reminder every day. There have been times you caught the bank robbers red-handed when I've forgotten to check!
Poinsettia aren't poisonous.
Grow the Strelitzia in a warm environment in full sun. They are a tropical plant that does not do well indoors.
Here is a link on growing and blooming poinsettias.

Dave, I have a few more questions if you would help me out just a little more, please.
1) Is it ok to take the 2 aloe out of the Scheffler pot and put them in separate pots?
2) Will the change of light and temperature inside, be ok for the Banyan?
3) Is the Banyan getting too much water? And that is why it has so many lenticels?
4) All of the soil in the pots were soaking wet even before I watered them with that solution. Should I take them out of their pots so they can dry out? Or should I repot them. I will repot the Xmas cactus for sure. I will bring them inside on Wednesday.
5) Are there any of them that can have direct sun?
6) Should I put the poinsettia in the cool bedroom? But it is darker there during the day.
You are very welcome Julie....maybe between the two of us someone will catch them....grin
Poinsettias are not poisonous, the milky sap may cause irritation to folks with very sensitive skin, but no where near poisonous.
Venice, I can repot that Xmas cactus for you... (heh! heh! heh!)
Moon...checked your link...ok the one kind...do only half just in case but they can go out now.....yeah less work in spring! I'm gonna have the widest looking front garden I think...LOL
I am in a plant war... the greenhouse was suppossed have been done before summer was over...but all the plants were outside so he didn't see the need....so now I'm making him feel the need...lol
Dave, can I grow them like canna's? My grandfather use have an ugly orange one that scared the crap out of me at night, I don't know if he stored it over the winter or bought a new one every year
Smiley...No I do not like poinsetia's (sp) they are nice...at someone else's house...but still every year I end up with 2 or 3 different colored ones. and every year I try to keep them, and every year they end up all green and 3' tall. If they could handle very very low light conditions and Total darkness at night I would stick them in the office
Venice, look at the post at 12:10 (CDT) today and check out that link on Schlumbergera. They can be a bit picky about light and temperature changes.
nonono I got dibs on the christmas cactus...lol
I'm one with very sensitive skin Moon, Maybe that's why I don't like them I always manage to get the sap on me
All those plants like a lot of sun.
The lenticels are a product of evolution, not over watering in a house, it's normal.
Simply let the soil get dry between waterings.
Yes, transplant the Aloe.
Keep the Banyan inside in a well lit area.
Keep the Poinsettia in a room that stays dark all night after the sun goes down. Even a few minutes of light at night will disrupt it's flowering cycle.
Smiley, that Xmas cactus is kind of nice. I never knew about them until I saw one that someone had. It was pale, all droopy, but the darn thing still bloomed.
If Strelitzia get below 50 degrees F, they might die. They need full sun.
What species do you have?
Your new one looks like a gem, Venice!
The Crab Cactus is supposed to be droopy. Just because a plant has droopy foliage, is no reason to cut it.
LOL Dave!
FYI - degree sign = ° (alt 248)
whenever I try to do italics I screw it up.
See?? what am I doing wrong? word (no spaces)
Is strelitzia the bird of paradise Trina was talking about, Dave?
aaargh! back to the test forum
Thanks everyone and especially Dave! I have copied all of your information. You know I wouldn't have all of these plants if it weren't for all you guys. I would still be living with my 4 philodendrons, 2 ivies, one arrow, 2 a. trees, and that is all! And I have only spent a total of $6.50 for all of my plants!! (plus the tables and chairs!)
Strelitzia spp. are the Bird of Paradise plants, although some folks refer to Heliconia. Both are tropical plants that need full sun.

Mine is planted in the ground here,
Dave, are you saying that I can't cut ANY of the leaves off these new plants??
Good deal Venice! I wish I could say the same! I can never find deals like you guys do.
Moon, it is so hard to believe that you have your bird growing in the ground!
Those are booteeful, Moon. Makes me want to move south!
Me either, Smiley. If I like it it is the most expensive plant in the store...even if it is in a 4inch pot....grin
Dave I have S. Nicolai and S. Reginae
plus one called Caesalpinia Pulcherrima "Pink Bird Of Paradise?"
You should have seen it peaking out of the snow this past winter....and then it bloomed for the first time this summer....maybe ya just have to scare the behebees out of them....grin
I am only allowed so much cash and have to leave the credit card at home when I go to a nursery
Smiley, right now Lowe's has asters, mums, pansies really cheap. Some perennials are $1. Other perennials, bushes, and shrubs half price. They still have some tropicals but they are really crap! I shop there because it is nearly across the street and it is easy to keep an eye on things.
