it's sad when the cat who right now is half as old as te dog is 10 times smarter!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, that link said one of the common diseases is scale!!!

It said that changing temperatures is not good. They said we actually had a light frost last night. And it has been high in the 40's except today will be a bit warmer, sunny, and windy. SO is that a problem bringing it inside?

Smiley, I do think it is scale!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

it's bad enough the dog treats me lke her personal chew toy, Now I am a climbing post ad perch for the cat!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, scale is surely not any worse than your smelly brugs!!!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

OMG I don't know what happened and it was the double purple datura I found out that stank to high heaven...the first batch of flowers smelled absolutely wonderful, the second bloom did not but I think I know why

Good morning everybody! Aloha aku!

More plants for Carol!

#1 Schefflera actinophylla, Octopus tree.

#2 Ficus benjamina var. benjamina, Banyan.

#3 & 6 Ananas comosus, Pineapple.

#4 Euphorbia pulcherrima, Poinsettia.

#5 Schulmbergera truncata, Crab Cactus / Christmas Cactus.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

There ya go! You can relax Venice. They just must be like that. I don't know nuthin' 'bout no ficus trees, Ma'am!

Venice, in a quart bottle a blop would be about a capful, maybe 2 of alcohol and I would say a few drops of dish soap. Not too many bubbles. Although I don't think anything would get hurt unless it was super soapy. Maybe Moon can correct my blops and squirts if needed, I'm not good on measurements.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave to the rescue for the rescued plants!!! Mahalo!!!

I have a pineapple plant and a poinsettia! Hurray!!!

I am so happy and I would do the happy dance if I were Trina!!! lol

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I thought puppy's and kitties played all day? these 2 are driving me nuts today...or maybe it's just beause I'm out of my pills...who knows

Moon if I start my canna seeds now, will they be big enough to plant out this year?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Oh! I put WAY too much soap and alcohol in it! I will start again.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I have some poinsetia (sp) they don't look like that! is it wrong of me to hope a plant will die?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I mean will they be big enough to plant out this spring?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

2 caps of alcohol, fill bottle with water, add 1 tsp dish soap, stir gently to mix.....spray.

I thought 3 looked like a brom and wasn;t sure about 6....glad the eye isn't completely off....grin

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

They should be fine to plant by spring, Trina

Venice, Pineapple is a bromeliad.....grin

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Thanks for that recipe Moon. I was way off!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Got it. Who knew!

Keaau, HI

The white dots on the Banyan are normal. They are called lenticels, they allow the exchange of atmospheric gases and water. Don't scrape them off the plant!

Keaau, HI

The Poinsettia looks like it gets too much water and not enough fertilizer. It also needs to be in the dark at night.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Thanks, Dave. i could not remember lenticels to save my neck....but knew it was not scale.

Welcome Venice

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Dave, all my plants are in the dark at night. Should I live a light on for them? Except for the Poinsettia.

The small pineapple has a baby! The large one had a black spider in it! Yuck! Will my treatment kill spider eggs also???

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, I remember reading about poppies. Most can't and yours said their seeds can be planted now. Strange!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I know that's why I figured I'd ask Moon! I want it to be spring now!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Check the above post for poppy info.

Why not? Trina?

Keaau, HI

Hi Jean, I think it is common for rainforest plants to produce lenticels on the stems to aid in gas exchange, when the stomata in the leaves are regularly shut down because of being wet.
