Boy Venice you got left some good stuff to reuse!!

I better go enjoy the weather while I can.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Dave, aloha kakahiaka! Your house sounds great. And even a planting station!

Lynnie, I really like your suggestion of colors. They are a tropical look!

JJ, don't you just love Sponge Bob!!!! NOT!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Should I wash the plants down with soap suds to prevent anything coming into the house?

The pot in #5 is cracked but I know how to fix that. I have done it before.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Morning Venice.....yes you can wash them down with soap suds

I feel smart your first one is a schefflera!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Trina, did you see what is in the pot with it?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Is it ok if the soap gets in the soil?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Nice find Venice! A round of applause!!

Is #2 OK? That's either the way it's supposed to be, or it's a bad case of scale. I can't tell. Personally, I hate those strawberry pots. That's a really nice plant in a really sucky pot. The holes don't have little cups. Unless you're really careful when you water, it runs out. I even put a perforated pipe down the middle of mine, it was still a pain in the butt.

A bath is definitely in order before you bring them in to be with your nice happy plants.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, take a spray bottle, fill with water and put a little blop of liquid dish soap in it and also a blop of alcohol. Spray the beejesus out of the plant, top & bottom of the leaves. Then water the plant with the soapy mixture. (You would also want to kill any bugs in the soil)

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, thanks. I will do that.

Scale? I have never seen it and don't know what to do for it!!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Number 2 looks like a ficus benjamina bonsai attempt

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

yes I saw the lovely big aloe

# 2 is some sort of ficus/fig (decorative) yes it's suppose to look like that, someone was pruning this to do something and got a little carried away

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

#4 when Good Brugmansia goes bad? what do you thing Moon?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

#5 some sort of christmas cactus and #3 & #6 I'd say Agave's of some sort

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

here's a link to a thread I started and got no response from anyone. I could be totally wrong, too, so don't panic!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Anyway I know the aren't the scientific names but Moon, Dave, How'd I do?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I pretend to be smarter than I look for a second and evrybody takes off...now isn't that nice...LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

# 3 could be a brom and 6 could be a yucca, or they could be agaves...hard to tell....3 is certainly toothed.

5 is schlumbergera http://www.schlumbergera.org/index.php?cid=65

4 I am not sure about, don't think Brugmansia though.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Smiley, I believe what you see in Venice's plant is the fact that it has been cut back repeatedly to attemp bonsai, look at the trunk....it has certainly been forced and resented it. Ficus benjamina are not the best choice of Ficus for bonsai as they are too temperamental.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

#3 and #6 have teeth edges on the inside, then only on one side, then no teeth on the outside leaves. I think # 6 is dead. Looks better in photo.

#2 Does it have scale???? Smiley it sort of looks like that plant on your link except it goes around the trunk and branches. I can rub it off. Should I take a rag and wash it off??

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Tempermental? is that what we're calling it?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I was confused by that also!

What about this scale?

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I don't think #6 is dead at all...great plant table...and I love the little tiled table and fold up chairs!! you did good Venice

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I have walked past that patio a couple of times and knew these were tropicals. When I saw them today, they didn't look as good. So I went around to their front door and ask them if they were planning on taking them inside. However, I saw new phone books and door hangers by their door and thought maybe no one lives there now. I called the apt. office and ask. Nope. No one lives there now and she said I could save them!!

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

SCALE OR NOT SCALE???

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

you did wonderfully, Venice! I was probably wrong about the scale. It's hard to tell from a picture, and no one else seems to think it scale, so you're probably safe there.

Does it rub off easily? I'd wait for an answer from someone who knows more before you wash it off. maybe it's supposed to be there.

No, Trina, you did good! I wouldn't have attempted any of them myself.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Ficus benjamina loses its leaves everytime you change light or temperature on it and when cutting back for bonsai, you must leave at least one leaf bud on each branch or the sap will stop flowing and the branch will die.

http://www.bonsai4me.com/SpeciesGuide/Ficus.html

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

can you take a closer picture of #2 Venice?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

That possible scale comes off easily when I scratch it with my fingernail. I tried it again, and I scratched through the dark and green bark and down to the white cambian layer in one scratch.

Moon??? Dave??? Is this scale?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Go ahead and gently wash the loose stuff away. There are two types of scale...soft body....you can squish them and they are easy to see, and hard body which look like small ovals that can be scraped away. Wash the whole thing down with Smiley's soap recipe and it should take care of any pests present.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Hey I'm eating lunch here...no disgusting stuff...LOL

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I think we have turned Venice into a plant addict now! LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

It sounds more like flaking bark.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

I think you're right, Trina! She's got The Plant Bug!

Venice, didn't mean to scare you, I'm sorry.
