Good evening folks! Aloha!

Trina, # 2 looks like Hibiscus acetosella. It's a good medicinal plant.

# 3 need a focused better photo.

# 4 maybe Tradescantia fluminensis, need a focused photo.

Saddle Road photos coming soon!

Keaau, HI

Yesterday I went up on the Saddle Road to Mauna Loa Rd. and the Mauna Loa Forest Reserve.

Here at the beginning of Mauna Loa Rd. is Pu'u Huluhulu, a !0,000 year old Pu'u (Cinder Cone) which is a Plant Sanctuary.

In front of the Pu'u is the 1925 pahoehoe lava flow.

Up the road a bit, and looking back on 'Omaokoili (Pu'u), from across the 1935 'a'a lava flow.

This is where I stopped and surveyed; a 4,000 yr. old 'a'a' flow.

The trees are 'Ohi'a, Metrosideros polymorpha var. polymorpha.

Here is the largest 'Ohi'a tree in the area. This is Sub-Alpine Mesic Forest, at 6'500 ft. elev.

A common shrub in the area is Coprosma montana. The berries are edible, don't taste very good.
