IT'S JUST THE GYSPY IN MY SOUL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

You know it SmileyJ...nasty critters. I dug up all the bearded irises and managed to save about 15 or so....just about half of what was out there. Guess that is the price you pay for trying to grow something you can't even buy around here....grin

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Moon you have a hard time getting bearded iris? I just orded a bunch if you want some?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

mine are Batik

I'd be happy to share if you feel they are borer-free. I haven't seen any signs of anything.

I do appreciate the offer from you both, but growing them here is an experiment. None of the nurseries carry them because we are way to hot and humid for them to really grow properly. I am just stubborn enough to try....grin

They did well for the past few years cuz we have been in a drought, but as soon as the rains started back this summer the problems started. I am gonna try a couple ideas for growing them before I add anymore innocent plants to the mix....grin, but I really do appreciate the offer....conscience won't let me knowingly send pretties to their death...grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

know how you feel... (( nod, nod ))

Keaau, HI

Good morning everyone! Aloha kakahiaka!

I tried to grow Bearded Irises here for years till I finally gave in to the fact that they don't like tropical weather. Now I just grow tropical Irises.

Here's Neomarica northiana.

Pretty, Dave!

I made myself hungry going through the recipes thread..

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Aloha ahiahi, Dave. I grow many of the LA irises as they do the best here....DUH.

SmileyJ I can see you sitting there sagely nodding....grin One of those"Know what ya mean" looks grin

Hurrah! the front has moved on. No rain before Friday...now I can complain about how hot it is....LOL actually, Tuesday night it is supposed to get down to 60....then back up to 85 Wednesday...today's high is 93, low 77....I love the Fall weather...grin

Keaau, HI

So what's on the menu?

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

... now I lost my appetite reading about chicken feet.

It was an old thread and they said it was a southern thing. Mon, did you ever eat chicken feet??? Gave myself the willies. I'm going to find myself a nice apple...

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Sorry Dave! I think you are a vegetarian? There were some nice lasagna recipes. I would eliminate the meat, myself, Grandma Battaglia never put meat in lasagna!

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

and of course, I got lost on the homemade cake from scratch thread..

Keaau, HI

Mmm.... chicken feet! Sounds like they'd be good with fried chicken lips and ears.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I am proud to say that I have never been in a position where chicken feet, pig's feet or the feet of any other creature, or their heads have been on my menu.....LOL.

Down here, the only thing that gets away in a Boucherie (pig slaughter) is the squeal. I will always be a bit Yankee at heart (or is that at stomach)? grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

just yucky. my mom said when grandma went to market and bought a live chicken, she would tie it off in the basement until ready to... you know what...

that was back during the depression. yeah, that would be depressing!

You're a music person, did you catch U2 on SNL last night? Do you like U2?

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

and broiled fish toes, Dave...LOL

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

whew! glad to hear that Moon. I must say, sight rules my tastebuds sometimes.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I love U2, but don't watch SNL....stopped watching it years ago...it just wasn't funny to me anymore. DHJim and I watched a new season in the early 90's for three weeks running and neither one of us laughed...at all....switched over to MadTV and watched it occassionally until it went off the air...now just catch various comics on Comedy Channel.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Sight rules my gag reflex a lot, SmileyJ....grin

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

'm not usually up that late, but knew U2 was going to be on, so I took a nap (heh heh). We saw them when they were here, last tour. Worth every penny.

Keaau, HI

I'm not a vegetarian, but mostly eat fish, cheese, beans, and grain for protein. As I'm in the high risk group for cholesterol, I have to limit my intake of food items that have legs!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Hi my name is Katrina and I'm a plant adict its been 12 minutes since I bought my last plants!

is that what you've been doing all morning? Is that an old man cactus I spot up there?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Moon, I don’t know of and I couldn’t find either Hendrix's "gentler" side or Dead ant, dead ant, on the Internet.

I am sure glad I don’t have to battle those fire ants up here. I don’t like things crawling on me or biting me! Yesterday when I was picking seeds, a black spider was handing from my hair!!! Yeeeek!

Dave, lovely iris. Beautiful waterfall and rainbow, especially with adding the words to them.

Moon, sorry but I would hate your weather down there, even in that kind of fall you have.

When we were kids, sometimes my great grand mother would fry up the chicken feet with the rest of the chicken. She would cut off the lower part with the nail. We thought it was so cool eating them!! They raised their own chickens and always had fresh eggs for breakfast. And I remember her grabbing the chicken by its feet and putting on a tree stump and --- you know the rest!

I wish I had seen SNL last night. I really like U2.

Trina, that’s a lot of cactus!!! At least they won’t be growing too much.

I think I have some of that plant on the right. It is getting too viney for my desk and I think I will just cut it off.

Hate to say anything but those last 2 just look like leaves. Do they have any of the branch with them?

Keaau, HI

Nice tropicals, Trina!

Looks like Syngonium podophyllum on the left. Middle is Maranta leuconeura 'Erythroneura'. And right looks like a Zantedeschia.

You still smokin' Trina?

(Zone 5b)

I just lost a post...
i just wrote that Trina & Venice will be happy to hear that I got the seeds packaged & will get them out tomorrow...did anybody see that post? How did it disappear??

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Yes!! I saw it.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Venice, you can youtube the U2. We did that this am to watch again . 2 songs, really good. I especially liked the 1st one.

A gentler Hendrix song would also be "Angel". He also did a version of "Over the Rainbow".

Trina, we have your "oh and I got these" but since they're indoor, that's DH's knowledge base, which is much better than mine.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

Lynnie, I think it was on the mulch thread.

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Smiley, I will check those out after I have some lunch. See you later.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Nope, Lynnie....must be selective editing....lol

Venice,The song you copied is what I was referring to as Hendrix's gentler side. So many folks only know thw "acid rock" side of his music. On the dead ant thing, think of the music to the Pink Panther and say dead ant to the beat....grin Oh the flights of the dyslexic mind....GRIN

It's okay to not like the weather here...sometimes I don't like it very much either, but the saying goes, Don't like the weather today? Stick around, it'll be different tomorrow.....grin My DHJim always says, At least ya don't have to shovel rain.....grin

(Zone 5b)

yup, it was on the other thread...forgot Trina wasn't there...thread confusion...

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

the weather is always greener on the other side of the fence. up here we say "yeah, but at least the house will still be here under the snow"

.. which really isn't meant to be funny. I don't know if I could live where hurricanes go.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

Smiley, I still think Joshua Tree was one of their best albums along with WAR.

See ya after lunch, Venice.

Okay, Lynnie, I am going looking for the lost post....grin

(Zone 5b)

here we say don't like the weather, wait five minutes.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

I'm down to half a pack a day Dave which is waaaaaay better than the 3 packs a day I was doing

Venice the last 2 "leaves" are for starts of some croton....I just love all the wonderful colors of them and the different leaf shapes. They brighten up all this green in winter.
oh and if your going to cut the one on your desk off either put it down in soil so you have 2 or you could just send it to me and I'll do it...lol

and yeah I know like I needed more houseplants....but at 88 cents a piece I couldn't pass it up!

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

I have discovered that there is harsh weather no matter where ya live. The cold would eat my joints up alive....I am part dragon....just want to curl up and hibernate when the days get cold and gray.

Besides, Hurricanes come and go quickly and are not terribly frequent....you guys get snow and ice every winter.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

The weathermen have a problem getting an accurate forecast here. It's always different than what they say. Forget a long-term forecast.
