All Sweet Williams are Dianthus....All Dianthus are not Sweet Williams....grin...sounds like the start of a logic problem.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

oh confuse me more Moon, Like I really need help getting confused!

Dave can you just transplant your whole yard into pots and ship it to me? LOL

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

What a cool little hang out spot, Dave. Of course the plants are gorgeous with out saying....grin. Good to see ya.

Kenmore, NY(Zone 6a)

aah, dianthus, sweet dianthus... my favorite flower.

I read in a gardening book that William Shakespeare first used the word "pink" (meaning the color) when describing dianthus in one of his works. That's how pink became known as pink, and how dianthii (I think that's my own homemade word) became known as pinks!

Kassy, what color were they supposed to be? I bought some white ones this year, and some of them had the same pink tinge that yours do. I assumed it was soil related, because some DID bloom pure white in a different bed.

Dave, as usual, nice pictures.

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

ok so dianthus or sweet william?

Moon, thanks. I didn't know if it should go in compost or down the disposal.

Kassy, when Kitty bites, she in in attack mode. Her pupils get real big and there is nothing I can do to stop her except throw a few pieces of a treat away from me. She would never sit on my lap. When she bites me it is not a little nip. It is a real defense bite and she draw blood! That is why I have had to shut the bedroom door at night. The only time she rubs against me a couple of times is when I am on the toilet in the morning. She is not exactly what you would call a loving cat or affectionate.

She is more of a demanding cat I would say. When she wants to eat, she will nipple on my leg and if I am busy and don't pay attention, she will bite. If she wants her little loving, she will be on my desk in front of me no matter what I am doing. She has to have it now but really it only lasts 1-2 minutes. If she wants in or out she lets me know. Sometimes when I am working out on the patio, she will come outside even if she has been sound asleep.
She was totally outside on her own for about 3 years. She was light as a feather when she first came here and you could feel every bone in her back. Now she is close to 12 pounds. She would prefer to drink out of a puddle than anything else. She also drinks out of the pond. She is more of a wolf cat!! She sleeps more now since she is older, few hours in the morning and a few in the afternoon. Before, she was outside most of the day except when she wanted to eat! She is a little friendly to people she knows but runs away from other people and cars and hides in the bushes. When I take a walk outside, sometimes she will come with me but behind. Cute! Sometimes she will lag behind and sniff or look at something new, but then she will run and catch up. She doesn't understand people talk except for 'come here.' She is certainly wild and has been that way for so long, I don't think she will ever change very much. Before I couldn't pet her at all.

As usual, Moon is correct. I have lots of dianthus, and some sweet williams too.

The look like short zinnias to me. But what do I know. I always thought of Sweet Williams as those very tiny blossoms on one stem but a whole lot of them on a plant, most in borders.

Keaau, HI

Be careful what you ask for. Agave and related species can take up a lot of room.

venice, mine hide from people too..............well the big guy is getting better about not hiding. Could it be that he knows with his size he has an edge on everyone? And he loves feet and will bit them if provoked. My son use to wrestle with him with his feet. He even sat with my son and watched wrestling. Maybe he was trying to learn some knew tricks to try on my son?

Kitty knows who is the boss there.............
I'm glad kitty has shelter from the elements.
That's part of the reason I took Buddy in. He had no shellter from the elements, and the boss there ordered us to stop feeding him. (they had no clue as to if I was feeding him at night though) ^_^

trina, I see seed pods there!

Canton,IL &Dent Coun, MO(Zone 5b)

Marinette, WI(Zone 4b)

Venice,This is a picure of the 2 that my boyfriend had. The oldest one (the dark one) died in my arms last october. She was 17 years old. I sure miss that girl.
From day one they met me at the door and came right to me.

I have no idea as to why some come right to you, some hid and some can be a little mean.
Kitty there may have been abused by the former people who had him/her, after all, for them to just leave her/him there I concider that abuse!

Trina, we have no real grass at my BF.............LOL
Mostly weeds!
I can get you a picture of real grass at the place I work. They just seeded some in this spring ;-)

Sorry Trina, I was just wondering how I'm gonna find a box large enough to put the things in and get them to the Post Office.

Here is Xanthorrhoea, Grass Tree. A close relative of Agave from Australia.

Prairieville, LA(Zone 9a)

That is the one called the Black Boy pine. It was touted as a real money maker by the Au gov't. but that project kinda fell through and didn't do as well as expected.
