Aaaah!!
ROSEMARY,BASIL AND FOOTLESS MAKES THREE
Definitely need photo capability.
I'm off to the Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park today. Will get plenty photos!
Aloha all!
Great! We love your photos!!!
there are not too many places to go that are open to everyone, but are kind of "back porch" forums, I see. Too bad you can't post pictures on the Welcome Home forum.
Why can't we talk on one of these forums? I don't understand.
How can you tell who has access to what? Like, non payers don't have blogs? I am still a Newbie and don't understand how everything works.
JJ, oh my! You are right on the water, really nice balconies, and even a fireplace outside. So cool.
ni-i-ice, jjs. love the willows!
Venice, Terry, a DG admin/ moderator shut down the thread I started before this one around noon today. I had already posted the notice of a new thread, but, Terry also noted that we needed to move to the backporch or general discussion forums, but non subcribers cannot go there, it is a closed forum.
For all you non-payers, I signed up for just 3 months (I meant 2 months) and it was only 5 dollars.
I thought that was a good deal especially up north here things will have slowed down by then, gardening wise!

Venice this is not my place. It belongs to an elderly couple I help sometimes and it has gotten overrun with weeds. I went out and sprayed today and am hoping for some input on what I can plant for them to keep weeds down after I get it cleaned up. I'm sure in its younger days it was something else.
Down the back of the house
It took me all of about 2 hours to join. I knew it would be money well spent. It also showed me how much I DIDN'T know. ((and found me some new friends too!))
JJs, it is such a shame that the homeowner is blind and cannot enjoy such a beautiful view. Perhaps we can figure out a way to get lots of fragrance and birds to sing for her, so at least she will derive some joy from her yard.
And don't worry, we won't leave you in the lurch...maybe we could get them to add photo capability to Welcome Home forum. It is open to nonsubscribers also.
We certainly need to figure out the front of the house first. Kinda has a deserted look to it that invites trouble.
Willows? Hope you mean the trees or I probably sprayed em.
They made sure I didn't get the crown vech, he showed me where it was amongst the weeds. So we pulled there. ugh
Venice is it three months or two months for $5?
JJ, are you sure they don't need a 'real' landscaper? I forget, is there an older person living there? Do they want to clean up the yard for resell?
JJ, my mistake. It is $5 for 2 months. That would be up to the first week of November.
I thought I saw willow trees from the pond view..
going outside now
Venice, if you place your cursor over a name in one of the threads, it tells you if the person posting is a subscriber or not. On the page listing all the forums, any of them with an asterisk behind it is closed to nonsubscribers.

Moon, can't we go to one of those?
Appreciate that moon, but I wll just subscribe not a big deal. One less trip to mcdonalds or skip some donuts and ice cream. j/k
I will take some more pics once we get some of those weeds gone. Biggest cockle burrow bush I've seen in a long time sitting right smack dab next to the patio.
It really is a neat place nothing around and another small pond on other side of the driveway.
You walk right out the basement onto a cement slab under that balcony.
Most of us can Venice, but not everyone is a subscriber.
JJs,Perhaps we get rid of the grass growing up to the sidewalk and replace it with a row of low-growing shrubs (2 to 3 ft height max) and use something like the blue rug or blue chip junipers to fill in the slope. Not quite sure what is growing below the balcony, no magnifyers on these bi-focals....grin
Venice yes she is blind , her DH lives there also but he has several health issues also. I worry about them out there but they are stubborn. They did hire someone once but I feel was taken advantage of. eventually I am sure they will have to move but for now I can't stand the weeds and when her DH decides he is going to do it lets just say its not safe.
My DH has had to go out and retrieve the mower from some pretty scary positions near the pond and once the man fell in.
Moon, what is Garden Watch Dog and Go Gardening? DG says they are free to everyone. Where and what are they?
Moon believe it or not there is some kind of low growing evergreen growing under that grass!! He is working on pulling that grass, we watered it down so would be easier. The spray I used would have killed it. If anybody knows of something that won't kill the plant but will kill the weeds, I would gladly buy some. There is alot that is going to have to be hand pulled.
Thats why I thought after the weeds get more under control I would get new pics. Hard to tell what there is under them.
Just wanted someone else to feel my pain. LOL
Garden watchdog lists unscrupulous vendors, less than upfront traders, nurseries that don't honor their claims or ship inferior products, etc. Go Gardening is a list of various garden related businesses and their locations, hours etc so if you are travelling in an area, you can see what is available to visit/buy. Nurseries, botanical gardens and the like.
Smileymom there are willow trees around the pond. I just wanted to make sure there weren't some other kind of willow growing I didn't see.
JJs, it has been my experience that sometimes it is easier to remove what you want to save and spray the rest than it is to try to winnow out all the weeds, I have to do that with a border bed that some evil wicked grass has gotten a hold in.

One small clarification. The Garden Watchdog (often referred to as GWD for short) lists almost 7,000 mail order companies--mostly good, a few not-so-good. About 70% of all the comments are positive reviews, so it isn't really focused on the unsavory places. Every member is welcome to share your great mail order experiences, as well as warn others if you got burned. Here's a link to it: http://davesgarden.com/products/gwd/
I think most of what they have are pretty good size evergreen bushes. They have some things on the other side of the house I haven't got to yet.
I believe from what I have been told that it was designed to look like a chalet they have overseas.
Germany maybe?
There are a couple tulip trees out front by the pond
jisgramma, If you read the roundup jug, which I never did until this year lol, it will tell you if you spray directly on the weed it will run down to the roots and not hurt surrounding plants. Hummmm just playing catch up, am I right is this site gonna be closed and moved to another hemisphere?
Thanks flowers I did read that and thats what I do at my house.
But at this house it would take until next fall to do it that way. Think kassys BF back 40. It might not be as weedy as this is.lol
Sounds like moons way is the only solution then for sure. Don't know who is in here but hello everybody!
I've been out weedeating myself today, hopefully won't have to mess with it anymore this year as the weather is turning cooler fast.
How do ya get to the General discussion or parking lot threads? I have never seen that forem listed.
ok, gone to try to figure it out feel like I'm talking to myself lol If anyone gets back on here give me some info Please gotta find my gypsy friends.
