September - show us your dark plants

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

This was taken earlier this summer. The some of heuchera's are looking a bit ratty right about now.
Think this is Pewter Moon.

I am partial to the dark leaved heuchs

Holly Ann - is that hosta Niagara, behind the heuchera?

I do love the dark heucheras and the lighter ones, like Peach Melba and Creme Brulee definitely do not like my garden. The "curly" dark ones are my favorites, like Purple Petticoat: they just don't always photograph well.

I have terra misu which I like and the sluggs seem to leave alone.
I also have Gingerale which is so-so and Sashay which was disapointment #2

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Oh no! Sashay is at the top of my list. What didn't you like about it?

I'd be crushed, too. From all I've seen of it, probably through Terra Nova, it's very dark with curly edges that are silvery.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

not here, its green with curly edges.

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I have been happy with this red perella (sp?) a nice deep color.

This is purple majesty millet.
I started it from seed , will be planting more next year.

Pirl, Those are NOID hosta that I picked up at a swap. Someone a month or so ago (might have been you) seem to think they were Niagara.
I have Perilla growing next to one of my water features.

How about a dark orchid? This Sherry Baby has 4 flower stalks and another one coming on, tons of blossoms. The smell is just heavenly.

Gardengus, Love that purple majesty millet. I've been wanting to grow some purple millet near my bird feeders for a couple of years now. Just never got around to it.

Cute idea, the work boots planting!

Hmm, had to look some up... Here's my darkest daylily, Maleficent:

Love everybody's darks, btw. They're beautiful! I always seem to go for the brights when I'm at the nursery, but lust for the gorgeous darks when I see them in photos. I really do need to treat the nursery like the grocery store... make a list before I go so I don't want to get everything I see!

Beautiful DL.

Calif_Sue, Thanks, Those are my old work boots. I spent 32 years working in a warehouse wearing steel toed work boots. I wore those for the last 2 years before I retired. Last summer they were nicely stuffed but they are looking a bit bare this year. Next spring I will add a few more sedums.

Here is my other Black Prince. It is growing on a sedum wreath.

Thanks, It has some very nice plants in it. I belong to a Hobby Greenhouse Assoc. and it was a summer project at our annual picnic. Everyone brought plant starters to share and there was a great variety of plants. I hope I will be able to maintain it over the winter. I did two of them this one with the sedums and another with hosta, ivy, impatiens, squill and lobelia.
I wanted to post another pic of my birdbath pond with the perilla. I didn't have room to put this pot of taro in the ponds so I just sat it here next to this pond and I really love the look of the large smooth leaves against the dark curly leaves of the perilla. I also have a green and white variegated grass growing not too far away that fits in nicely with the color combo, too.

This was another nice surprise that I have been enjoying all summer long. Last spring when I planted pansies I wasn't even sure of most of the colors as many of them didn't have buds yet. I just love this dark purple pansy against the lighter (might be ginger ale) heuchera. Besides the color combo this one along with several other pansies have been blooming all summer long, very unusual for our area.

nice blue with that heuchera,I have gingerale as well.

Nice pics HollyAnn.

This is a dark black begonia, currently I am trying to get a definitive ID on it.from begonia experts. I do need to repot it too and I think I'll go lime green to match those centers.

Lovely plant and that lime green is my new favorite color because it goes with so many coleus. Some golden moneywort might work well with it.

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Currently, there is no room in the pot for anything else, as is the case of most of my begonias. This one is my favorite, named Susie's Curl.

Here's the PF for it with all the pics I've added, neat plant.

WOW Looks dangerous

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I think it looks like one of those spiky caterpillars.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

What beautiful begonias. I love begonias but have only just started growing them.
You are right Calif_Sue something lime green to match the center would be very nice. The golden moneywort would trail nicely over the edge of the pot Pirl.
BTW, Ric loves the duck. LOL

Can plants w/ dark spots be included? here is a manfreda. I'm not straight on the correct botanical name. It is a low maintenance plant, which I have potted in full sun, getting water.....whenever it falls from the sky. This was a little plant from a coop a few years back. Has filled out nicely. Requires no winter protection in my area but it does get ratty.

Love the spots and the edges. Very nice.

Maybe I can pix the black spots on my tomatoes

Ohhh, I LOVE that plant Nery! I have a different variety but yours is cool. If you ever divide it, think of me and we'll trade for something :-)

Those begonia 'eye lashes' are soft, nothing spiky like cacti.
