Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

WOW They are great

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

I try pirl!

Sometimes I grow this solid dark castor bean, 'Red Spire', from seeds that I got from another DG member. I didn't grow one this year.

I'm in trouble now. Think I have to look into euphrobias

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

OK Where can I find a seller for euphorbias?

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

Great photos, as always, Sue.

I have quite a few Euphorbias but got them from different places so I can't help, Jo Ann.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I found Blackbird at Bluestone and GC has some. most for 2010 delivery. OK by me the heeel hurrrts so saving it for bulbs and JI's iris comming from Snowpeaks

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

Jo Ann, I got my first euphorbia from Lazy ss this year and love it!

Great darks everyone! I think I might have to check out dark roses available from Palatine.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I'll put LazySS on my hunt, The euphrob are on my 2010 wish list

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I didn't read Sue's post thoroughly enough and thought the Aeonium 'Schwarzkopf' was the Euphorbia. That's what drugs will do. The Aeonium would be a house plant here.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The castor plant is beautiful but wayyy too big for this garden
We have had problems with wild castor bean here its poisonus

Northern California, United States(Zone 9a)

Bet my garden is smaller! I pull them after a year. Last year I let two over winter, they were a pain to pull out, the roots went too deep and wide. Only poisonous if you eat the seeds that look like beans. I have small dogs, never had a problem but I try not to let the seeds over ripen and only let them mature if i plan on collecting them.

I love your gardens Sue

I hope I can butt in here. I was just taking a break from planting dayliles and came upon this thread. Have to say that I've never seen so many beautiful flowers - all of them. I didn't even know that there were roses out there that gorgeous. WOW

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

welcome to garden talk

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

I'll have to get a photo tomorrow of our castor plant. I just threw the seed head across the fence and didn't care what happened to it so, of course, I have this monster plant but the clematis, Henryi, seems to enjoy it.

My favorite mini iris

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

I can certainly see why that's your favorite mini iris. It's stunning. Do you know the name?

Flora, IN(Zone 5a)

I just knew someone would ask so I looked it up.
It is Jewel baby , I read on the iris forum some did not like it because it has the extra petals often.
I know there is a technical name for ''extra ''petals but the name escapes me now.
I just like the color and do not mind the unusual flower.

Sebastopol, CA(Zone 9a)

Thanks for looking it up. I love the extra petals!

W of Cleveland, OH(Zone 5a)

Thank you, ge1836.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I love that mini also. I need a new baby.

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

Pirl, Great idea for a thread.
Calif_Sue, Love the Aeonium 'Schwarzkopf I have wanted one of those for a long time. Oh, that Spiced Tiger bearded iris, swoon.
Zuzu, Those roses are just beautiful especially love the Tradescant.
Gardengus, I just love mini iris that Jewel baby is a beauty. I was just out checking out the Tri-color Beeches in our area. I wanted to see how they look by the end of summer. I have quite a few dark plants I start off with this Jack in the Pulpit ‘Arisaema Speciosum’

It's so beautiful it almost looks fake!

Dover, PA(Zone 6b)

It's a beautiful plant the leaves are huge and have a very interesting shape. I ordered it from the calla lily co-op it came from Pacific Calla. Almost gave it away after I realized that it's listed as not hardy for my zone, so glad I changed my mind.
This Persion Shield is from last summer, sorry to say I never did get one this year. They were hard to find and I waited a bit too long to go looking.

Somehow I planted this tall dark purple Columbine in front of the white Azalea and it really shows off.

Holly does that calla bloom in summer?
Its a beauty

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

All wonderful photos, Holly Ann, but like Louise I love the columbine and azalea.

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

Well, my camera seems to have died, so can't get any pics now, but I do have a few from earlier in the season. This Lily is the darkest I have, it's either Ebony or Dimension from Faraway Flowers- I had both, lost one, and now am not sure which is left. They both are very dark and sultry.

'Black Jack' Sedum is a good performer for me. Its in bloom now, the blooms are providing that nice contrast of pink/mauve with the dark leaves, but my favorite was when these hardy Geraniums were in bloom with it.

ge1836, The Jack in the Pulpit ‘Arisaema Speciosum’? Yes, it bloomed earlier this summer and the foliage is just dying back now. Since it isn't hardy I grew it in a pot which I set in one of the shade gardens. Hopefully I will have luck overwintering the bulb but I expect to get a few more of these as I loved the plant. I really don't have any good pics with the foliage but this will give you an idea.
