Two Old Guys Were Chatting:

One said to the other:
"My 85th birthday was yesterday.
The wife gave me an SUV".
Other guy responded:
"Wow, that's amazing!!.....
Imagine, an SUV!!..
What a great gift!"
First guy:
"Yup !!.... Socks, Underwear and Viagra!"

Victoria Harbour, ON

Is that you 'Tubby?' now that's a gift...my Uncle Allen used to say he got socks for Christmas, would ask if you wanted to see them, if you did, then down would go his trousers (underware worn) and show you his socks..quite a character...

Same here for boss...a call from time to time saying, it's Friday, it's 1:00pm off you go!'...had an appt. scheduled for 1:00 tomorrow for one of the men in Toronto, Paul called and asked if I could change it to today...wonder if that's a hint..let's hope it is...

Haven't seen Sharon on-line yesterday or today, I'll have to give her a call tonight and see if our trip is a 'go'..know her back was giving her mega trouble..wouldn't hurt my feelings, be nice to have the weekend at home to relax...didn't I say that last weekend then found a zillion things to do..

Crissy, did you decide which of the treasures you bought will make it to your mom..poor Dave, hope you made him homemade soup...lol..

Bev, I sure do think you had heat stroke..was mighty humid these past weeks...

Please someone pinch me..didn't sleep well last night and can't keep my eyes open...almost lunch hour for the girls, think when they leave I'll put my feet up, close my eyes and rest...not that I can't do it now but they shuffle back and forth so I wake up....

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone.
Dear, dear Betty, another loving lady that carries so much on her shoulders. I do hope you're able to sleep tonight, just remember that when you pray, there are ten thousands of angels carrying your message.. and the best part is He hears.

I may not post here, but somehow we all carry a common bond. The love we have for our DG friends.

LK's son had 10 stitches. This is the message she asked me to relay to you all.

"Linda Cartwright Jaye Blanchard: Jaye, please tell everyone on Dg, that so far, all is well, Still waiting on more test to be done. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers!
I can't get on DG t his morning! We will be here till he is released! Thanks a bunch!
LK

God bless you all,
Jaye

Good Morning, Afternoon to most of you! Just a quick check in....have a feeling I am spending the day helping mom finish getting ready for tomorrow's garage sale.....I have managed to stay away so far....but here we go again :( Have Sage under foot as well....

Hope you all have a great, restful afternoon. Will check back later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

thank you Jaye, most appreciated...one thing is for certain, our dg friends are family and like family we chear them on when good things happen in their lives, we pray when they are in distress and in need of prayers..each very special to us...a special bond that some do not understand but one we understand! Sisters/brothers of the heart!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Perhaps Trisha Sage could have her own little table..either for discarded toys or a little refreshment stand...how cool would that be...

Love garage sales, haven't been to many this spring/summer..should be having one of my own...

Good luck, tell her to make mega $$$ so she can spend it for garden supplies for both your and her yard...

Lunch time..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm more of an antique store person myself, I always feel guilty at garage sales, someone always has some sob story of why they can't keep whatever.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Love antique malls as well, it's just you can find some specialty items that you'd have to searchlong and hard for anywhere else...

Now look at that bronze table sitting there...I now fill it with water for birdbath and it looks pretty against the other pieces of garden art..

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Doesn't sound good Betty....be safe....check in when you can so we know all is well !!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Please let us know when al is clear Betty. LOVE YA

Victoria Harbour, ON

Problem is the wind is picking up andit's a little dark but now that I've been at Shar's and out sitting by the lake and it was sunshine and calm waters and within a sec got quite stormy well I'm not nervous but will be cautious...ooops roof window open, best I go close it..

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Betty LOL you don't need a storm shelter for that! We ignore those, just keep the radio/tv on and to where you can hear it. When you need a shelter is when there's a Tornado Warning issued and it's headed right at you, and you HAVE to check to see if it's headed at you! Here, the warning goes out for the whole county, but say the county is 200 sq miles and it's in the northeast part of the county headed east, you're in the south part of the county, no storm shelter needed there. Even then it's iffy cause it can turn, lift, or never come down in the first place before it gets to you. You're acting just like I did my first year here, it was horrible, I was afraid of a cloud in the sky.

Speaking of storms, I hope I'm not counting my chickens before they hatch, but the squall line they said we were going to get, is in middle Tennessee, Alabama, and Mississippi, the front has already came through here so chances are we're not going to get it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Was just kidding Crissy, not worried, been through a few before...actually one hit and killed 8 only blocks from where I am so they don't take things as lightly as they once did..

Clip from newspaper....

On the warm late spring day of May 31, 1985, one of the largest and most damaging tornado outbreaks in Ontario’s history hit the province. 13 separate tornadoes, with two of them killers (rated at F4 on the Fujita Scale), crossed southern Ontario during the late afternoon and early evening hours that day – several people died, hundreds more were injured, and with many millions of dollars in damage for the province of Ontario alone. One of the tornadoes devastated the city of Barrie, nestled at the far western edge of Kempenfelt Bay, on Lake Simcoe.

Another, equally devastating tornado farther south tore a path over 100 kilometres long, parallel and north of Highway 9, passing through several towns in the process. This unprecedented outbreak was part of a larger one in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and New York. Several of those tornadoes were violent as well. Conditions were perfect for such a major late spring tornado outbreak that May 31st, which later became known as “Black Friday”.

I can remember Roger being home getting ready for the long weekend, our home on the Little lake had spanish arches, it was just an odd quietness to the area..we went outside to sit on balcony when all at once you see see the water rising from the bay..it passed no further than about 10ft from balcony..took our largest of pines along waterfront and yet left the chairs sittingon the lake deck...lots of damage to our region as well...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

LOL Betty, I used to freak out over those watches all the time. There was a tornado watch in the far northwest corner of the state last night and the storm was quite a bit north of that in Kansas and Missouri headed due east and I was having a hard time keeping it together with just that. Thunderstorms don't bother me anymore though. I just looked at the fronts coming through there, you might get something... it looks like an upside down L, with the warm front on the top and the connecting cold front on the bottom, that always reeks havoc down here.

Tornadoes do weird things, it's spooky. in May 2008 when we had the outbreak of 12 tornadoes I think it was (that's considered a small outbreak, I would hate to see a large outbreak,) a two story log cabin style house was hit on one side of it, in the sons room. I don't know how old the son is, but it left him in his bed, tore out the wall right next to him which housed his closet, took his hung up clothes off of the rod in the closet and hung them on a tree branch about 7 to 10 feet away.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Amazing isn't it that it's got such a force and yet can be so gentle...won't be a late night, just so tired, keep dozing off..eyes keep getting heavier and heavier..oh well 25 more minutes and homeward bound..

Wanted to do some shopping so that Cathy would have treats while looking after the house this weekend..think I'll leave it till tomorrow aft.

Victoria Harbour, ON

hmmm just posted an 'alert' is an 'alert' to be more cautious than in a warning..should check these things out! lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Dang! Thought the weather was going to be bad driving home so I didn't bring an extra change of clothes, wanted to get a pedicure after work. Oh well. I can't figure out which pressies my mom is getting. I bought the gnome for her birds, but forgot she has about 50 wild turkeys that will peck it to death so that won't work, the bird chirping will scare her dog, I want the frogs but can get more next year, plus with the swaps and what-not, so I think I'm going to give her King Toad, the toad holding the rake, and the gnome still for good luck on her future doctor endeavors, plus she's been doing crossword puzzles in her boredom so I got her a crossword puzzle dictionary I found at an antique store up the hill from me.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Just got off the phone with LK.

Andy's kidneys are functioning! PTL!! He'll be going through another CTscan to make sure it's all clear before they release him.
He complains of being sore.

She has problems logging on to DG on the hotel's pc.

LK thank all of you for the heartfelt prayers and healing thoughts sent.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Sounds good. He will be good as new in a few days. Nothing like these DG friends to pray for you. I know . Bless you BEV

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Wow, he's very very lucky, to have a truck run over him like that. Great news!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thank the Lord..Jaye thanks for posting..nice to get good news..LindaKay must be exhausted but relieved..

Crissy am sure she'll love whatever you give her..your visiting is probably all she want..

Heavy rain, thunder/lightning poor Sailor girl is having a fit, will have to sit and pet her...might be a good time to get some of her grooming done!

Put groceries that need refrigeration away, as for the rest, they can wait till heavy rains stop..on the agenda for tonight, p.j.'s and t.v. - can you believe it? lol

Did talk to Sharon late this aft. guess we're going...however she says we have to put in an extra 1/2 driving just to get hotel that will allow a dog and also has a pool..won't be much time for shopping I can tell you...

(Laura) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Mary, Happy late birthday, hope it was a great one!

Betty, I truly believe things happen for a reason, but even with that belief, it’s hard getting to that reason.

Sage is doing pretty well. I’m not sure if she wants summer to last or to get back to school more. It’s not the type of area where she could really make friends over the summer, hopefully she get some friends around here when school starts.

I haven’t had time and energy at the same time recently to get out and work on my garden, but other than weeds it’s doing well.

Suicide is very hard on those left here, it makes you question what you did, even when you know that it wasn’t your fault. I think it’s the hardest death to deal with.

Crissy, I keep meaning to get on everyday, but it’s hard for me to get on when DH has the day off. With as stressed as he’s been as well, I’ve been letting him use the computer to blow off some steam.

Tubby, omg… “What do you get when you mix PMS with GPS?” I think Sage thought I had lost it, and it’s not exactly one I can explain to her, but I needed that laugh, thank you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning,

So very dark outside even though it is early, more unsettling weather for today..quite the storm...I was just dozing off when Jeff called, thought I'd be worried if I heard the news..they think it was a tornado that hit only a block away from his house..it will be investigated today to know for sure..didn't want me to worry as I normally watch the news every night..last night, well just too tired..in bed early..

Trisha, was going to call Vera last night but thought I'd wait a few days..she'll have a house full right now..so much stress on kids of today..not fond of getting old but it beats living in these times of uncertainty.. his children were young and I'm sure don't realize what this all means thank goodness...

Sage will enjoy her experience in the school system then if there are few children her age in the community..she's probably quite mature being with you, Laura and your mom a lot of the time..being raised by my grandmother meant I spent time with aunts in their 50's and 60's so never really had a childhood with children my age except in school system..don't think it hurt me, am sure she's benefiting and learning from grandma..take it from me, she'll cherish every moment of it in her adult life...great memories I have...

Nice of you to share computer with hubby..any biking planned for this weekend? weather co-operating heat wise?

Did some drilling and cutting last night so best I go clean up sawdust..talk later...

Sending prayers and hugs to those of you in need...

While I sat in the reception area of my doctor's office, a woman rolled an elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist's desk, the man sat there, alone and silent. Just as I was thinking I should make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother's lap and walked over to the wheelchair. Placing his hand on the man's, he said, 'I know how you feel. My mom makes me ride in the stroller too.'.

As I was nursing my baby, my cousin's six-year-old daughter, Krissy,
Came into the room. Never having seen anyone breast feed before, she was intrigued and full of all kinds of questions about what I was doing. After mulling over my answers, she remarked, 'My mom has some of those, but I don't think she knows how to use them.

Out bicycling one day with my eight-year-old granddaughter, Carolyn,
I got a little wistful. 'In ten years,' I said, 'you'll want to be with your friends and you won't go walking, biking, and swimming with me like you do now. Carolyn shrugged. 'In ten years you'll be too old to do all those things anyway.'

Working as a pediatric nurse, I had the difficult assignment of giving immunization shots to children. One day I entered the examining room to give four-year-old Lizzie her needle. 'No, no, no!' she screamed. 'Lizzie,' scolded her mother, 'that's not polite behavior.' With that, the girl yelled even louder, 'No, thank you! No, thank you!

On the way back from a Cub Scout meeting, my grandson asked my son the question. 'Dad, I know that babies come from mommies' tummies, but how do they get there in the first place?' he asked innocently. After my son hemmed and hawed awhile, my grandson finally spoke up in disgust. 'You don't have to make something up, Dad. It's OK if you don't know the answer.'

Just before I was deployed to Iraq , I sat my eight-year-old son down
And broke the news to him. 'I'm going to be away for a long time,' I told him. 'I'm going to Iraq .' 'Why?' he asked. 'Don't you know there's a war going on over there?'

Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children stricken with cancer, AIDS and blood diseases. One afternoon he and his wife, Joanne Woodward, stopped by to have lunch with the kids. A counselor at a nearby table, suspecting the young patients wouldn't know that Newman was a famous movie star, explained, 'That's the man who made this camp possible. Maybe you've seen his picture on his salad dressing bottle?' Blank stares. 'Well, you've probably seen his face on his lemonade carton.' An eight-year-old girl perked up. 'How long was he missing?'

God's Problem Now.
His wife's grave side service was just barely finished, when there was a massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning, accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, 'Well, she's there.

So laughing...tks Tubby..hope today is filled with sunshine for you..

No wonder Jeff told me not to worry last night...we had storms/trees down etc. but his community lost many homes..luckily no deaths...Crissy, didn't you tell me not to worry, they are only weather info bulletins..lol...

General info on storm'Like a scene out of a movie'

A state of emergency is also in effect in Vaughan, Ont., just north of Toronto, where the storm tore the roofs off houses, uprooted trees and overturned cars. At least one tornado is believed to have touched down there.

Vaughan Mayor Linda Jackson said Thursday's events caused "millions and millions of dollars worth of damage" to the area.

"I'm presently in the Woodbridge area this morning and just coming here, it looks like a scene out of a movie," she said in a phone interview. "It's absolutely unbelievable the destruction that has happened in my community."

Some 175 houses in Vaughan have sustained severe structural damage as a result of the storms, CTV Toronto's John Vennavally-Rao reported Friday morning. Hundreds of others sustained lesser damage.

"Just an incredible scene yesterday, the storms that swept through, we're not entirely sure how many tornadoes may have been associated with this storm," Vennavally-Rao said while reporting from the scene in Vaughan.

"Environment Canada will be out today surveying the damage and trying to establish just how many twisters touched down."

Rob Damiani's parents had the roof torn off their house in Vaughan.

"My parents were inside the house, they were down in the basement, thank God," he told CTV's Canada AM from Vaughan on Friday morning. "When they got out, everything was gone in just a split second."

He said they had been living there for 30 years.

Based on the TV storm footage available on Thursday night, Coulson said the funnel cloud seen in the Vaughan area and in nearby Woodbridge, Ont., was "obviously" a tornado.

Others still need to be confirmed, he said.

The storm also moved through Toronto, where reports suggested that a funnel cloud was seen near the central intersection of Yonge and Bloor Streets.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

OMG Betty. I'm so glad your son is Okay...We are bracing for some wild weather this weekend too. Hurricane Bill is headed up the coast. They don't think it will directly hit us but it will pull all your bad weather over to here!!! Hoping it misses....

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Bernie and Charlene should be heading back!!! They may have been driving into this wild weather and decided to "hole up" somewhere safe.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Could be..think the news said that Hurricane Bill would hit our east coast as well..be watchful...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I think we are safer than Nova Scotia right now. My SIL was from there and I just love the area.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Visited a few years ago, what beautiful country much like where you live...when Roger and I were younger we couldn't wait for long weekends, would add a few extra days to it and off to Mass./Vermont/N.H. - some fond memories visiting those areas...

After his death having a few friends who like to gamble we'd travel to Atlantic City and at times take the ferry I believe to Delaware...what amazed me was how Delaware was revived historically, cleanest place on the face of the earth I remember thinking, so decorated with USA flags/yard art...never got to spend time there but wish I had...

Come spring, think I'll go on a driving marathon again..lol

Must go through my photo's and see what pictures I have of the region..loved Cape Cod, Nantucket Island!
