Best/Worse/What did I learn today-visit with friends #118

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh Bev, it's absolutely beautiful..pine needles you say..do I just put them around my plants or just lily's...raked a ton of them up..wish I could send them..maybe you'll teach me to re-cycle them...

Well thank you kind lady, it certainly did make my day and I'm sure Debbie's day to meet you both..I was overwhlemed by your generosity..got a few postcards, know you save them and tell Scotty with them I'll send a 'toonie' to go with the 'loonie' I left..you never know, he still might get to use that Canadian money..sure do hope so...

Now that I've told you all how hard I've worked, I took a photo of who watched me do all the work..

Smell like sewer, in with my hip weighters cleaning ...wow...I do not smell nice..so it's bath time, think I'll wash my hair, it's a must really..don't want to fall asleep early because I want the pond filled, if I fall asleep likely the entire neighborhood will be flooded..

Think it might be a nice night to light up the back deck chandelier, candle holders, get that wine cooler mom gave me a few months ago and relax..sounds like a plan...

But before I do, got to say Judy, you have far more patience than I with the kids...I'd have walked out..probably that's why my kiddies are angels with me, they know I'd say home you go...but then it's been decades since I've had teens in the house, might be a different story nowdays...glad you mended fences...think this time of year it's cheque writting one after the other...lordy, lot's of $$$ to put kids through college and high school..

Crissy, I am having a wonderful day...would tell you about some not so nice but then that would be ratting on the staff..lol

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

I have the one long needled pine tree on the ally and I mulch my hostas with it and the daylilies that have it are doing much better than the wood mulch so I want to find a bunch close. I would even rake them myself. Maybe should put an add in the paper?? Hadn't done one of these in a while.

Too adorable...well I've tons here and tons at Greg's ...will try adding them to my hosta beds...had a hosta floating in my pond since spring..can't believe the size of it and the root structure..was going to take it out of the pond and plant it but think I'll leave it float for another month and plant it come fall when I plant the mums...

CASH FOR CLUNKERS..........I QUALIFY How about you?

IF MY BODY WERE A CAR...

If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish, and my paint job is getting a little dull. But that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus, and it's especially hard to see things up close.

My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather.

My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently.

But here's the worst of it --

Almost every time I sneeze, cough or laugh, either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires.
CASH FOR CLUNKERS..........I QUALIFY - How about You?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Not even sure Tubby they'd classify me as a 'cluncker' .. laughing because several points ring true...thanks for the chuckle before bed...

Best of the day...all around fun day

Worse of the day..not too tragic, went to sit on back porch with my 1 wine cooler only to remember when I went looking for it that Jeff enjoyed it the night he came back from Kayaking..just goes to show you, somebody doesn't want me drinking..

Kids next door are having a bonfire, hear them gabbing very quietly, pond almost to the brim, shut water off, just too tired to wait up for it..

Had some candles lit in chandelier and wall sconce lit for you all, guess you were busy...perhaps another night..

Father Murphy walks into a pub in Donegal, and asks the first man he meets, 'Do you want to go to heaven?'

The man said, 'I do, Father.'

The priest said, 'Then stand over there against the wall.'

Then the priest asked the second man, 'Do you want to go to heaven?'

'Certainly, Father,' the man replied.

'Then stand over there against the wall,' said the priest.

Then Father Murphy walked up to O'Toole and asked, 'Do you want to go to heaven?'

O'Toole said, 'No, I don't Father.'

The priest said, 'I don't believe this. You mean to tell me that when you die you don't want to go to heaven?'

O'Toole said, 'Oh, when I die, yes. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now.

Too cute Tubby....

Mary, were you able to get some dancing in with the young ones...lol..know I'd have been there in the midst of it all..

Just did a walk around the gardens, so pretty, washed everything down last night on the decks so think it will be coffee outside and take in the beauty..

Only floors to wash upstairs/downstairs and everything is caught up so not sure how I'll fill in the day but am sure I'll find something..

Walking into the bar, Mike said to Charlie the bartender, 'Pour me a stiff one - just had another fight with the little woman.'

'Oh yeah?' said Charlie, 'And how did this one end?'

'When it was over,' Mike replied, 'She came to me on her hands and knees.'

'Really,' said Charles, 'Now that's a switch! What did she say?'

She said, 'Come out from under the bed, you little chicken.'

David staggered home very late after another evening with his drinking buddy, Paddy. He took off his shoes to avoid waking his wife, Kathleen.

He tiptoed as quietly as he could toward the stairs leading to their upstairs bedroom, but misjudged the bottom step. As he caught himself by grabbing the banister, his body swung around and he landed heavily on his rump. A whiskey bottle in each back pocket broke and made the landing especially painful.

Managing not to yell, David sprung up, pulled down his pants, and looked in the hall mirror to see that his butt cheeks were cut and bleeding. He managed to quietly find a full box of Band-Aids and began putting a Band-Aid as best he could on each place he saw blood.

He then hid the now almost empty Band-Aid box and shuffled and stumbled his way to bed.

In the morning, David woke up with searing pain in both his head and butt and Kathleen staring at him from across the room.

She said, 'You were drunk again last night weren't you?'

David said, 'Why you say such a mean thing?'

'Well,' Kathleen said, 'it could be the open front door, it could be the broken glass at the bottom of the stairs, it could be the drops of blood trailing through the house, it could be your bloodshot eyes, but mostly ...... it's all those Band-Aids stuck on the hall mirror.

HA! Tubby - good ones...

Hey Betty - that would have been a good idea...but Im sure DD would have rolled her eyes and I'd have been the party pooper....so no...I just worked on Band Stuff on the computer...we have our Band Open House Party Thursday night which is a "Get the (especially) new Parents to sign up for stuff" mission.....thinly disguised as a Party :)

I'm making Sign Up Sheets...however we do have some really "gung ho" Freshmen parents so I'm excited...

The Girls decorated jewelry boxes to hold their costume dance jewelry (48 cents pencil boxes), then they went swimming , then watched girl movies...there's about 6 of them in there sleeping ....

So I guess I'll head outside....don't want to wake them.......yet.

HUGS,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sounds as though the party was a success Mary..laughing because my boys would just shake their heads, roll eyes but everyone else enjoyed me teasing and playing around..

Loved the jokes 'Tubby' .. weekend time, don't overdo.. eating fresh veggies yet...

Went to town for a few thing, because I was all caught up inside/outside so a leisure day for sure...it's glorious out there, slight breeze, sun shinning, all is right in my world...

Went into Walmart to see if the had any rugs that matched furniture in living room, nope, now that they are a super store they have less in other depts. so I'll have to make a trip to Barrie Walmart this week..

Saying that, surprise/surprise - they had mature trees on for $5.00..

Question of the day..how many trees can fit in an aveo..lol..
8 and possibly 3 or 4 more...don't tell, might take a run in this evening and pick up a few more...

Ohhhh Liz, what are you up to?

Yippeee, Steve has finished the Hancock project, he was mighty proud, said the place is perfect!! The people were estatic when they saw it in July, so i am sure they will be just the same now that it's done.

1- hakura Mishi standard willow
2- Centurian crab flowering crabapples
2- Ref Jade crab apple

1- royal splendor flowering crab
1- burning bush tree

Thumbnail by tubbytee
Victoria Harbour, ON

I could see a stew coming on 'Tubby' I love tomatoes sandwhiches when they are almost green..hard to find in a store..so you are more than please with your new method of gardening ? making me hungry..bought some red potatoes on Thursday at framers market but don't think they looked as good as yours...

Oh no Liz, so now what will you do, have to purchase a new counter as well? Home Depot is a good place to shop isn't it? best prices most of the time..

Judy forgot to ask if Steve has another project downtown Chicago..guess word of mouth spreads better than advertising...

OMG almost got in mega trouble..can do that on your own you know..my thoughts because it was too hot outside was to come in, get all the floors done, maybe a lick and a split for dusting, all that's needed (other than craft room of course- can't wait for Bernie to come and put all the doors in so I can shut it and nobody but me knows..lol) sooo back to my story..turned on the tap to fill the pail, guess for no more than a second I thought now where will these trees go, outside I went positioned them for where I want them, making a tree screen on property line - only side that I can see neighbors..want to be secluded in my little part of heaven, so placed them here and there, came to me, I could go right down neighbors side of the driveway if I had 4 more, with keys still in ignition and wallet in the car..off I go..no sooner get to the Walmart entrance did the lightbulb come on..OH NO, left the tap running...rushing into Walmart like a crazed woman, used the telephone and called Cliff next door and asked if he'd come over and shut it off, said I'd be home shortly to clean the mess...knew there would be big mess..thought I'd be calling insurance to ask if 'stupidity is covered' so why rush home to the mess, might as well get the trees, Lordy they are a good selling but I managed to pick up 4 more..why not while my car is filthy with soil/leaves not do it at same time..

Pulled into the drive and into the kitchen...NO MESS, Lord must be looking after me today..called over to thank Cliff for his efforts, said I was better to be sure, guess I had shut it off and not remembered...nope, he said if the call had come in but a minute later it would have started to flood...guess what happened is because the pail hid the drain but had a ledge, some of it went into the 2nd zinc but it could barely catch up..Cliff said I was one lucky girl...

Now that I've had my break it's 'floor time'... as for digging to put trees in, going to wait till it cools down..can't believe it's only 1:12...so much energy today, not sure why, thought for sure with watching what I'm eating, barely having sugar that I'd be in slow motion...NOT...

When talking to Bernice (Cliff's wife) she said she'd be over for lemonade so that I'd have to sit down and entertain, her side verandah overlook my home, says she's feeling guilty sitting while watching me go from one thing to another...too cute..

Are you enjoying your day...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

They keep saying we have nicer weather coming....couldn't prove it looking outside right now...gray and dreary. Guess I will finish cleaning front rooms for tomorrow nights shop meeting then see what kind of trouble I can find to get into...my back is telling me I should take it easy whatever I decide to do :(

Wonder if our WalMart have their trees on sale? Would love to have a few in My back yard.

Sounds like you really lucked out with the water!!!

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

For anyone watching the prayer thread for news of critter - she just posted that the birth mother called her and she is in labor. Pray for and easy delivery please.....

Victoria Harbour, ON

thank you, off to check it..isn't it exciting..

Trisha, think the weather is co-operating in giving you a few non-sunshine days so you can just rest...

Tired so calling it a day..

Best of the day...bargoooons, 12 trees - 8 planted and just 4 more to go..

Worse of the day...a few scares but all turned out in my favor..

What did I learn today? never plan for a 'sit and relax day' doesn't work that way..

OMG was just listening to the news..wedding last week in Barrie, towards the end of the night a couple came in and made away with the wedding envelope box...imagine..search is on..sad though that guests had to be questioned for 2 1/2 hours... hope they catch them..

Tubby, thanks sweetie..do you know there is a movement here where individuals with signs are found around town and major cities saying 'free hugs'

Just got back from Home Depot..made it, although there was a policeman taking speed..wow, so glad I was being a good girl..

Got my wood, not sure if I'll have time to cut my project out..going to water newly planted trees, (still have 4 but not sure where I want them planted...almost started to dig on side yard and remembered, ooops Foxy Lady sits there all winter....

About 20-25 are going in various boats up to Sans Souci - all you can eat fish dinner (about 2 hr. boat ride) asked if I'd like to go..hesitated for a minute , had a list of to do's for the day then said 'you fool, go enjoy' so my cooler is packed and leaving at 11am...

Weather is perfect for the trip up the islands..got my camera so will take photo's of the beautiful scenery..if I keep posting enough photo's eventually you'll all yearn to visit..doors always open for a friend...

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Got all my flowers watered last night. It took a good four hours. Got a shelf unit out of the shed getting ready to clean it and put it under the back awning in the shade then start digging two yr old hostas for sale next month. I think I will sell some Irises too for they are crowded. I am going to dig out a few larger hostas and divide them so I can make room for better ones. I have 19 rows to make in the seed bed for 19 different hostas. Hope I get all done outside before the snow flies. GRRRRR LOVE &HUGS TO ALL BEV
Betty here is a good pic of that fairy rose when it was in bloom.

Bev, that sure is a lot of work. I hope the weather has been cooler.
The rose is so beautiful, love the shade of pink....I can tell it really had a hearty blossom. Don't over do it out in the garden.

Give Scotty a hug for me....I am still waiting to hear you two got out for dinner!

This is one of your sunflowers I took a picture of, with the bee doing his work!

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

No haven't went to dinner really scared too besides it has been so humid that Scotty had a spell yesterday and I thought he was going to have a heart attack. I am not going to work in the sun. It is too awful out there even with a breeze. Will wait till this evening to dig babies. This next weekend is supposed to be high 70s and high 50s at night. Very nice. May stay one night at the camper. Nice pic of my sunflower. Here are you guys with Scotty. I think that made his day. He says to say hi to you and Betty.

Beautiful sunflower photo girls...

Bev, is the sale in town or do you have to travel for it...hope Scotty gets to go to the camper..had we arrived earlier he really wanted to take us there...guess we'd have had time had we not spend 1 1/2 in cornfields...don't overdo, work either early a.m. or late p.m. of course you know that..lol

Debbie, how's the legs doing? Sure hope they are improving...

Bath time and off to bed...lordy I got a lot of sun today..

Started our trip out and the grain ship was coming into the harbour..we have a flour mill in Midland..would say the grain ship comes in about 5 or 6 times a year....

Thumbnail by Bettypauze

We were total of 6 boats...4 went on before us and we waited for Ken and Jan..his boat is in Midland and it's kept up on shelves in storage and taken down when they want to use it..because the weekend was so perfect weather wise there was a long wait, we didn't mind, just drifted until they arrived..
