Best/Worse/What did I learn today-visit with friends #118

Victoria Harbour, ON

Moving us over...

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1022063/

sorry the room is hot/muggy...someone please send us your cool weather.....

Crissy, great buys for sure...a lot at 50% off, wonder if it ever gets lower than that...

OMG, Suzanne joined the Berstein Diet (?) while I was away..$160.00 a week just to lose weight..said she lost 5 lbs. last week..not sure I'd like to take those needles for supplements so I have the list of what to eat, what not to eat (going to force myself to drink water) can't have 2 nieces under 100 lbs and Suzanne going down to 120 lbs and me weighing what I do so have the list and will try to follow along with her minus the needles and see what happens...

Just talked with Greg for awhile, he and family so enjoyed their vacation...told him to drop in as I haven't spent an evening with them in so long that I forget what they look like, his reply "sending you an e-mail of what we look like for your files!" aren't kids brats at times..lol

Debbie, keep checking in for update..did you get an appt. with the doctor? could you tell me the name of the big craft show you were telling me about..going to try and go...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

I'm first!!! YYYYEEEEAAAAAAA

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Supposed to be working, but eating watermelon instead. Betty there are a lot of good websites out there that guide you on calorie counting and all, at no charge. I'm on Spark People, but I never use it, guess I'm not ready to stop eating crap yet.

I've been busy busy busy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Never heard of spark people??? should check that out..I never did well on weight watchers..but I do think her diet is much too strict..can't eat anything..know if you follow it and you do shed lbs. you'd put it back on when you start eating regularly..

Well I'm praying to St.Anthony..can't find my bank card..guess I know where I'll be going at lunch tomorrow..yep, need an interact card for sure..could be a way to drop lbs. lol..don't buy food...

Stopped at my brother Bernie's on the way home, asked me if I was praying for him..last of the negotiation meetings is on Wednesday and if the insurance agency doesn't show up again, they'll book court date immediately..hope it doesn't come to that..

Glenview, IL

lol were back....
had a wonderful time will post later on

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

It is interesting what does and doesn't work for different people....Weight Watchers is the only program I have ever lost weight on....I think it is because you can eat Anything you want....it is just the quantity you have to watch.....and that is our problem...We eat very Healthy compared to most people we know...we just eat too much of what ever we have. I need to get back into Portion control mode.

Waving Judy, glad you had a good time....

Bill is having his class here in our shop tonight so I need to run and get a few things done before people start to show up.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Glad you made it back safely Judy, guess Kenny and Liz are headed home tomorrow..lordy that Kenny is a card...so enjoyed my visit with you all...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Will you have to go often LindaKay? Is the pain still as bad? How is DH, is he now on full days..are you having this hot/humid weather as well? lots of questions..lol

Trisha, doing the happy dance for you..bet your gardens will sop it up and ground will still be dry.. weather hasn't been quite as bad for you has it...would imagine most of your bike runs have been cancelled...

Now tell me what you purchased at the auction they had at Doris' ...anything interesting..some yard art??

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

This is a chair, table cloth, Frog Pin, garden tool and large Mom and baby Frog Lawn Ornament that belonged to Doris and now reside in my keeping for a time. They are all special treasures.

Hello All;

Just popping in for a bit....

LK - glad you are 'on the mend' as they say....

Betty - Sorry to hear of your sister's dogs...I do know they are family.... I hope you find your bank card! Don't want to lose weight that way ! :)

Can't wait to hear from Judy & Liz.......

Crissy - You Always beat everyone for first! Wah ! :)

Trisha - Love those flowers..what are they?

Really an uneventful day today...Hoping for a productive day at work tomorrow...

Hugs to all,

Mary

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hi Mary, the flowers belong to a neighbor, I want to say Coreopsis, but I am not sure....

I can't believe we are still getting a slight rain!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Naw Mary, not every time, just almost lol. I don't sit and wait for the posts to start over, really I don't! Well Ms. Cheerful called in sick yesterday and she's here today and hasn't said hi to me or said anything to anyone else, I bet she doesn't have a voice, like she has one when she has one anyway. That's the way to lose weight Betty, lose your bank card!! LOL Not good at all. I'm worried for you.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, just busy as a bee today..Jeff is in a gabbing mood today..told me all about his plans for his 2010 vacation, another kayak trip, hated to ask where but did..thank goodness he says he's doing the shores of Georgian Bay..can you believe over the past 10 days there has been about 7 drowning deaths in my region..unpresidented they say..police are trying to get gmt. agency to pass law that life jackets are mandatory to be worn when in a boat and not just available for use...get the chills thinking of some of the rough water Jeff was in...

Got his Christmas list already..too cute..guess I'll be visiting the Outdoorsman Shop here in Barrie shortly..wants the packsack that gets attached to the top of the kayak and a large self inflatable mattress..makes things easier when I know what he needs, hard boy to shop for...now I can get ahead of the game..

Spoke to Braedon and Caleb, trying to set up a weekend when they aren't scheduled to do something so we can all get together..tell you, it's so hard to find a day..Kyle's in Meaford this week, Noah is spending time with his other grandma, Caleb is at cooking school (imagine) and Braedon is going to Hockey school...said his 4 weeks in Algonquin Park were enjoyable..did sailboating, ecology classes etc.

Diane, my girlfriend called this morning, was missing me, I just got back and she's getting ready to go east for 10 days, by the time she comes back I'm gone for the weekend to PA. and when I get back she's going out west to an equestrian show...we'll plan something together shortly after...

Crissy as for my bank card, I decided to come to Barrie at 8am this morning as the bank is open, now have myself a new interact card..thank goodness..was able to purchase some dietary food to get me through the day...

Dropped into Bernie's last night and had a great visit..SIL Charlene had the day off so she got a few pkgs. together from her work the day before to bring to Salvation Army, it was closed so with $20. in her pocket from selling eggs she decided to go to Casino a few doors down..she put $20 in and played quarter machine, press tripple (75 cents) and won $760.00..she then continued to play the balance $19.25 and ended up with an additional $60. so she was thrilled..they had friends over and wanted me to stay for pizza...no can do, cutting down..lol..trying to be good girl..

As for Sharon, she took Koors to the vets and they said the cancer growth is growing ever so slightly, so she did not put him down..she seems to be feeling a little better today..

Because of her back she's finding it difficult to do walls/wash curtains etc. so told her I'd go spend a weekend and go through her house..

Trisha I especially like the chair..hand embroidered I would imagine..why do you say they are 'in your keeping for a time' will you have to return them? froggie is a cutie...what is the blue/green tool?

Mary, I'm sure by the end of your day you are exhausted, always when you start a new job..you must be settling in somewhat??? How are the children, back in school? grandchildren don't start until Sept.8th..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Tubby, we need you to post and let us know you are ok..starting to fret here..

Debbie, how are the feet today, any better since you've taken the extra pill?

Lyndonville, NY

The feet are all swollen, and so are my hands. I have my nieces today, a 3 year old tiny might about the size of an 18 month old....and a 10 year old who isn't happy to have a little sister. Paul is home helping with them.

Its another hot one today but not as humid as yesterday. Paul has the girls outside with Izzy....who is showing off in her swimming pool.

Betty, you are very lucky to get a new bank card today.....ours have to be ordered and it takes 7 to 10 days....and a real pain!

Victoria Harbour, ON

OMG Debbie, no more playing around, off to see the doctor..couldn't believe how swollen your feet were and now your hands, something is just NOT right...

You thought you might have the children for a few days, thank goodness Paul's on vacation..how long do you have them for???

Easy to get bank cards Debbie, they have them onsight, simply key in and it's done..I've got same password but not same card #..so have to relearn that number...lol...

Debbie, what town was that craft show you were telling me about in? Sharon showed an interest so perhaps we might go if both are schedules are open...

Lyndonville, NY

Here you go Betty, took me a bit to find the new listing. Nothing on the fairgrounds page yet.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Thanks Debbie, much appreciated..storms seem to be working themselves away from our area...40% rain for today then sunshine for the rest of the week...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Woke up to beautiful rain this morning and now the sun is peeking through....we need that rain sooo badly!

Regarding the items of Doris' that I have....... I look at these beautiful old items, as with all my antiques and older items, as being in my keeping during my time.... unlike most of our modern disposable things these items have "soul".... I will care for them, enjoy them and the memories attached to them and eventually they will move to the keeping of someone else who will, hopefully, love and appreciate them as well...

Victoria Harbour, ON

That's such a nice thought Trisha...feel the same about a lot of my things...I have the feeling that those with daughters can pass them on more easily than we who have DIL's....

Trisha, you got to help, time to start thinking about our 3rd.Annual craft day...do you have any ideas...thought of one but it involves basic painting, think that would be a 'go'?

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Hmmmm.....I like painting, don't know about everyone else......

Come on Ladies, put in your 2 cents worth!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Would be very basic painting..if the project had material some don't sew....just came downstairs...t.v. bingo doesn't start till 8pm so will get some books out and get a few ideas..I know, you say 'Betty it's only mid August' but for me I'd have to do the proto-type and then start cutting then there is the mailing out of kits..want it early enough that if some want to make several (ho hum) know someone that does that right Trisha that they'd have time to do so..

Doesn't mean I'd put the list up tomorrow, just want to be organized with what I'd have to buy...

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

But Betty at the rate some of us get going (like me) you need to post the list soon....time has a habit of getting away.

Lyndonville, NY

Good evening!

I finally have some spare time, and my nieces went back to Grandmas house.

SO, thought I would post some great pictures from our wonderful trip!

I have put together a few collages, because to post over 250 great pictures...ummm, might be a problem!

So, I broke them up into "Adventure sections".

I am going to start with our trip to visit Sharon. I hope she doesn't mind, but I had such a great time there....and I hope I didn't annoy her to no end.

This first set is of the beautiful moon, Sharons cats which I just loved Daisy is the tuxedo and Jazz the beautiful orange lion. The birds that were so pretty and entertaining. And the frog was so pretty and entertained both me and the cats!

I am sure I drove Betty crazy with my love of animals, especially the kitties. And look at the pretty crepe' myrtle

Lyndonville, NY

This next set is some I took of the waterfront and the beautiful murals that are painted on the walls. I took lots of these, but the pictures are night ligtening up to the best. I will keep working.

And this is Betty & Sharon also working on the portraits of Betty's adorable grandsons.

Alright, you have all heard of that infamous storm we encountered.

This is when we went down to the Kentucky Dam and beautiful marina! Ohhhh it was so breathtaking...my pictures do not do it justice. I so wanted to get out and walk through the grass and see all the trees and flowers. Not to mention maybe walk along the beach.

BUT.......soon after this beautiful shot

Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy
Lyndonville, NY

Not even 15 minutes after the shot above....we started heading back towards Sharons house....and I started hearing a bit of a rumble....and a siren!

I thought there were emergency vehicles...but no...Sharon told me about the severe storm warning sirens. I was very calm about it....and we headed back.

And then....it happened! WOW! I haven't seen anything like this since I lived in Florida and was little.

The one shot, we are parked under the overpass because it was so nasty and we really couldn't see much. Deciding we better make a break for it....we left.

These pictures are of where we had been 15 minutes sooner....with Betty sitting at the waterfront! Can you believe it!

And after we left there and headed back to Sharons, not 3 miles from her turnoff....we saw a big flash of light. We knew then there would be no power getting home...a transformer had exploded.

Thumbnail by DebbiesDaisy
Lyndonville, NY

We sat up late into the night talking, and waiting for the electricty to come back on.

Poor Betty finally called it a night and went to bed. I talked poor Sharons ear off and watched the lightening bouncing around us. And with the new lighting trying out all kinds of settings I still havent learned on my camera. Poor Sharon was my "subject" in all kinds of light....she will probably get me for these! LOL

Funny thing how just meeting and all...we had matching Eeyore Pjs, hers pink and mine purple.

This shows Sharons beautiful ornaments she made, Daisy of course, a candle from the "lights out" and of course Sharon.

Thank you dear lady for your hospitality. Betty and I both had a wonderful time...and it was a much needed rest in our travels. I still don't know how Betty did it all....I know she was exhausted from the driving.

OK, will put together more for tomorrows show! LOL

Great pictures, Debbie.
I guess the world has never before seen me in my jammies, or my hair wild from the storm and gulping a diet Coke.
Thank you, for all the great memories. I'll cherish them always.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Severe Storm sirens, that's cool. We don't have those, just tornado sirens, not good when you hear those things!

LOL Sharon, you are so cute in your jammies, with your hair all messed up from the storm. Thanks for sharing those Debbie! Very good pics. I don't have my camera figured out yet either. We'll get there.

Good morning everyone!

Went to therapy yesterday, and did OK. Need to work on the muscle groups, some I need to find, they got lost! LOL
Betty Todd is back to work full time, but he gets tired real easy. He went to his Dr. yesterday, and they are going to do more blood work next week, to see if he needs additional supplements?

Wow, that looks like it was one nasty storm on your trip! Hope no one was hurt?

Look what I have blooming! I went to check on my coleus yesterday, and found this one open, and several more buds, so they can bloom in this heat!

Morning,

Tubby went back through the posts, haven't seen you post that you'd be away so now I'm fretting...need your "joke of the day" or at least know you are ok...hope you taught that darling wife of yours how to access the system so she can update us....sending prayers and soft hugs, can never have too many of those...

Debbie, so glad I was in charge of driving and you of photography, know it's your love, goodness you take marvellous photo's..I've enjoyed all you've posted so far...

Dying to see the cornfields..lol... how are you feeling today, any better, PLEASE tell me you will be off to the doctors, wouldn't hurt to get his/her opinion...

Judy, nice to see you back on-line, been missing you..had so much fun at your house, couldn't stop the laughing, omg Kenny and Steve are above being funny..you'll have to tell both that I just went and purchased new towels...so enjoyed meeting Skittles, so adorable..would say I want one but Missy and Riley are licking their lips as I say this so not an option..

Liz, leave it to Kenny to get you going..don't you know him by now..what a brat..could see the devil in his eyes...too funny about you all travelling and waving at Debbie and I in the corn fields..as soon as Debbie posts photo of that part of the journey either she or I will update everyone on what happened, quite an adventure..

Liz, are you back to work? or did you take this week off as well..nice to get back into a routine I'm sure..I can just imagine the fun you've had with Steve and Judy....great hosts..never a dulll moment..as for Steve he's a darling, now where can you go to have a motorcycle / police convoy showing you the way out of town...lol - beautiful sunset..

LindaKay, long process building up muscles especially lol where you can't find them..don't overdo though as that could mean more problems..as for Todd, do you think he went back a little too soon? Let's hope they can give him meds which will help with his having more energy..

I have Coleus as well, no blooms yet, the white bloom showing isn't a coleus flower though right? don't know how you've all kept your gardens going with the heat/humidity and no rain...must be strong plants to still look so pretty..

Shar, your p.j.'s were adorable..I so thank you for taking me to the fabric store..can just imagine when the quilt show is on in Paducah (which we found twice on our way to your house) the quilt treasures that must be displayed..breathtaking I would imagine..

Trisha, have a few ideas for our craft day, lots to consider when planning for the workshop:

1 - basic as not to discourage those who participate
2 - inexpensive to ship
3 - easy access for supplies needed for me

Debbie and I were talking, might be worth the trip to USA to mail them all..when I mailed out beads while Debbie and I were away, couldn't believe the size of the box that you can ship for $10.80 - no weight consideration for it..Debbie said they had 2 or 3 boxes some smaller..so checking that out as well...
