Jeanette, It will be fine on my end, we won't get a light frost until late november and a killing frost not before mid december. I have time that it can acclimate here as long as it doesn't freeze in your snow. Every year my son whines, that he has never seen the white stuff....
I try to muster sympathy for him, but it is hard to do at times. LOL
I don't know what I would do with winters like some of you endure. I would be a raving lunatic I am sure.
Have a great night everyone.
Linda
Propagation: part X based on my own experience
I agree linda...of course we get the occasional yuk ICE storm....last one we had was 10 days... no big snow storms though
LOL, don't know which is worse snow, or paying my property taxes. Both today. What a day!!
Linda when we get a good snow I will send your son a picture. Not the same is it? How old is he? Not old enough to drive in it is he?
Jeanette
Thats the fun ice follies behind the wheel. I like to just watch the folks on the road being fearless and all at 100 mh with their hair on fire.... its so funny ...just my opinion
Dave, you have a strange sense of humor. LOL,
Jeanette:
some call it strange... I prefer unique...LOL ... If I offend anyone I try my best not t do that. yes the humor has been taken wrong and ended up in a whole world of do do which I steped into. but now I try to keep it toned down.
So are we all ready for winter? JB do you sell your trees precut or can we cut our own? I am loading up my truck and getting the chain sharpened for the chain saw...lol ...Just kidding ...unfortunately. we have alergies that have us among the artificial crowd.
hmmm a gardener who is alergic to pollen, mold and other organic matter.
Dave
round 11 ??? are we all ready
Dave
Dave, there is certainly nothing wrong with your sense of humor. And, I am not up tight enough to find it so. Your words are better. I like unique. It is truly such a shame when people are so up tight that they take email verbage wrong. THAT IS WHAT I DO NOT LIKE ABOUT EMAIL. Did I make myself clear? LOL
That is a dichotomy isn't it? A gardener with those alergies? LOL
Jeanette
Hi Pugh Honey, I can call you Honey because I am old enough to be your Mother. Having said that, wise "A" . You do not have to bring your chain saw, we provide saws, and you can cut them yourself or for those of you who are allergic, we cut it for you. As for what you do with it after you paid for it is up to you. Put it on your porch. Maybe you would like me to dismantle it and ship it to you needle by needle. :>) Here is my picture the kids took at breakfast.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN TO ALL. JB
Cute JB. Do you all get a lot of kids trick or treating? We don't get any out here and we sure miss them. We had not thought of that when we moved here. Don't know that it would have made a big difference but it would have been something to think about.
Jeanette
Jnette, Hi, no kids at our house on Halloween or Trick or Treat night. Parents around here take there kids to the complexes and stay away from the farms. Most have parties, etc. My daughter and her hubby went to a party at one of the relatives houses for the little ones. My DIL is going to an adult party as a Lobster. She is such a nut. Fun person. My grandson and my son are watching college football so I know they will not get into any trouble this year. I hope. New Jersey is not the greatest place to go door to door. LOL.Have a nice evening everyone. It is still cloudy, very windy and misty here. Oh Lord, please stop this crap. JB
It was a beautiful day here. I say was, because about 3 p.m. the sun is on the other side of the mountain by my house. But before then it was very nice. Also 56 degrees. Much nicer than the 40 high yesterday.
I wanted to get out and put some mulch on the roses etc. but Bob said it would be nice the next 2 days so we will maybe do it tomorrow. Depends on the football games unfortuntely.
Things get done tho.
JB, It seems like the adults have taken over Halloween from the kids. It is such a shame. It used to be almost more than Christmas until things started going crazy. Now the only safe things the kids can do is go to some party organized by adults.
Jeanette
JB, I just thought of something. I sent Dave a Dmail with info on Maple trees, seedlings and seeds. Besides grafts (expensive). Anyway, maybe you might be interested. Here is the URL for the fellow. Ken Alston.

Jeanette
Hi: It is a shame we cant go to the old days where we went out for hours and came home with a huge bag full.
I likemy twisted humor. we have a fun group here and it seems to fit together well,
It was beautiful today as well. upper 60's and tomorrow maybe 70's. I did manage to get out to the local nrsery. what ever happened to all the other fall flowers beside pansies? there were 3 flats of dianthus and some non hardy flowers on sale. I did manage to get a fuschia spider lily.. I am looking forward to seeing it next year. I also bought 2 pinapple and a couple of tricolor sage's for stock plants. Keeps me from buying a flat of something that might not sell.
you know me always looking for the $$$ angle to continue expanding.
Happy Halloween
Dave
Same to you guys. Jeanette
Did the same thing today Dave went for a tarp to cover the lawn tractor and came home with 32 elephant bushes 16 alfas and 16 variaegatas for 10 cents each. of course they are on the small size but hey a bargains a bargain. Might just use them in my "eggies". Wife just shook her head, "knew I should have went with you".
Thank you for the link. I will check it out.
IT IS STILL RAINING! HONEST TO GOD! WHEN WILL IT STOP?
I realize today is Sunday, but I have some work to do in the greenhouse and I am hoping I can get it done before tomorrow when I start to be creative. It is time to make wreaths and cones, etc. for the Christmas Store.
Have a good day everyone. JB
JB ... I will be praying for a break in the rain for you.
Dave
We;; Dave, he must have heard you. At least part of what you prayed.
We had a beautiful moon last night and this morning it wasn't raining again. Now it looks like it might be over, really cloudy and chilly, wind coming off the ocean again today so that could be a problem when that starts if there is still a low off the coast. Oh well, today is busy so off I go. Have a good one. JB
Howdy everyone: another fatastic day. afternoon temp 70's low mid 40's and tomorrow a bit cooler high in the upper 60's. Hoping to transplant all the stuff redy to move up and winter over. I guess i am a bit behind oh well at least its only a few hundred plants. anyone wanna help???
so what are we all doing this week? everyone getting their wish lists ready for spring ordering? I am currently contimplating how many canna's to order, folowed by hostas and other flowering perrienials. Any hints??? I am kinda looking at Hot Lava echinacea... new for 2010... anone know of anything else new next year???? Have a great day
Dave
I forgot to tell you Dave, the piggy swap is just a bunch, like 50 or 60 people trading seeds. This is my first time so not too sure how it works just yet, but with that many people there are a lot of rules to make it organized. I guess it all comes out in the end. They all have a lot of fun.
What is the Hot Lava Echinacea? Sounds interesting. Where do I sign up? I imagine it is a plant for $15 at this point. Right? They usually are.
Jeanette
Everytime I think i am back.... Oh well..... it's a long story. I am still not over the asthma/sinus/pnumonia/flulike bug thing yet and it is just about to drive me insane. It isn't viral, because nobody else is getting it ( Thank God,) but I am so tired of being sick and tired, I almost can't function.
On a happier note. I have a buyer for the birds! Jberger, you will appreciate this, this lady is an Aunt ( ok used to be my Aunt) and she is crazy for birds) she agreed to take all of them, ( even the house babies) and move them all at once! My hubby is almost doing the happy dance!
I on the other hand am resigning myself to it slowly. I know I will miss them immensly, but she will keep me up to date on geebee and tj.
I know too that she will keep those 2 like her children. ( just like me).
Part of this means that I will definitely turn the aviary into a greenhouse! I will have more plant room than ever before. Now I can plan all kinds of things for when I feel better. I just need the energy to think.
Hope everyone else is doing ok.
Jberber, i would gladly take some of your rain.
Dave, I like your sense of humor, It is a lot like mine. ( maybe it's the pain LOL)
Jnette, I think I would definitely be interested in some hot lava echinacea. It really does sound interesting.
I just wanted to check in, If I don't get to post, I do lurk when I can
Take care everyone, linda
Linda, so sorry you feel so rotten. Be sure to clean your aviary out real good. Maybe you could have someone else do it??? Bird dander is as bad as dog dander which I am fighting continuously. Fortunately I have a central vacuum which puts the waste material that is cleaned up, in a tank in the basement. So, it is out of here when it sucks it up. That is wonderful.
Sorry about the birds, but isn't it nice that your aunt is taking them and dyou will be so close to them?? Hey kiddo, it could be a lot worse.
I don't have the new Echinacea, Dave just told me about it. Don't know where it is. Do you Dave?
Well, off to bed, ttyl Jeanette
Hi,
Everybody is talking about the new echinacea has anyone seen the new Hot Papaya? I got that one from starlight back a couple months ago. Am anxious to what it will look like this next year.
Dave got a pic or where to look at this Hot Lava.
Thanks Jnette, Yes, I am planning to hire someone to clean the building for me. I know some guys who are trying to fill in with some home services type work while their normal business is slow and I believe it will be well worth it for me to pay them to do the work for me. I am also planning to have someone come in and clean out all of my central heating and air vents etc. Then I may have the house ozoned.
Something has to help!
On a happier note, I am starting a few perennial seeds outside today. I am just going to scatter them in my border and mulch over them and then wait for nature to nurture them to full growth next year. Anything I don't have to pamper right now is a definite plus! Hope everyone has a great day! Linda
Linda you are off to a good start. In the winter it even helps just to vacuum good. We tend to close everything up tight in the winter and don't get enough fresh air. Be sure to let them know exactly what they have to do with their cleaning and the air duct cleaning is good too.
Don't go crazy tho and spend a lot of money. Maybe those things will be enough. What is ozoned? Sounds expensive. I wanted my property surveyed and they wanted $4500 for it. He said if he hadn't had the one map I gave him on the West side where the forest service had surveyed it not long ago, that it would have been $9000. Guess we're in the wrong business guys.
Jeanette
OH MY Jnette,
We had our property surveyed this past spring and it only costed us 1200.00. I sure wouldn't want to live in Washington. That's a bucoo of money just for a survey.
It is a lot of money. I thought it was because I have over a half mile frontage but that was on just the one side that he road is on. Not like they would have to go tramping thru the woods. The Forest Service had surveyed the other side thankfully. But others who had less property than I do have paid a lot also.
Hello to all. Sorry I haven't been in touch, but it has been the summer from H***. I believe I told you my Mom fell and broke both legs and ankle, then my other charge (Aunt) passed away. So has been hetic. Mom is still in the nursing home and I don't expect her to come home again.
My Yard tour went fine and everyone liked what we did to change from last year. Don't think I will try for it again tho, it is just too much for these old bones. I lost all of my plant starts from lack of attention and water. With the both of them, before Aunt Betty passed, (she was 150 miles away and I had to handle the estate) so I just had no time for the yard, I guess if it had to happen it was best to have happened after the tour. Things have settled down this past month and when I surveyed all the damage, I will have to start from scratch again. I did however, make the front page of the local paper with my Halloween decor. I used lots of dead plants to make up the haunting floor;)
Linda, sorry to hear about the birds, but glad you found someone to take them. I have only one conure left and don't know what I would do without him. He keeps us going with his antics. JB good to see you are still my mentor, and Dave, sorry about the shoulder, hope it is better by now. As you always say, little today little tomorrow then start over. We won't discuss my back issues.
And to the rest of you, I hope all is well.
Sure wish I had kept some of the seeds I sent for the newbies. I have no starting point so will have to scour the site and try to make some deals.
Time to go visit with Mom's Dr. so will see you all later, Lee
Lee, Join the Piggy Swap and get all of the seeds you could ever ask for. It is so much fun and the people are great. There is a limit, and I think there are still a couple of spots open before it closes. I will help you. Seed Saving Forum http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1053226/
Lynn is right Lee. Hi there Lynn. No see for a few hours. LOL Got some seeds from Lynn in case you guys hadn't guessed.
Get in there Lee and get some seeds. Still a couple of days left. I don't know what you are looking for, and there may not be exactly what you had. Seems if I remember you bought a lot of starts from a nursery and had them shipped. Sweet Potatoes, and can't remember what all. A ton of things. You didn't lose all of those did you?
Come on, start in with us on the piggy swap. Let me know if you want to and I will send Star an email to see if we can't get you in.
So sorry about your mom and aunt. Boy when life deals s--- it sure unloads doesn't it?
Jeanette
Hi there Jeanette!
All seems to be quiet right now. I had Dr appt today, mowed yard, and then the darn server was down tonight. So I am now trying to "catch up". I need to update my list on the Piggy Swap, have new things to add.
Lee, You will have a blast. Jeanette and I will help you get going. You need some good fun for a change, you have been through such a bad time in your life.
What do you like? I will send you a "Happy Package".
Hi Lee:
Send me a list of your wants and nees I will see what I can come up with. I have a lot of odds and ends i will happily share with you. I know how it goes when family needs you its drop everything. I feel it should be that way as without family we are all a lot more sader and alone in life. Send me and address too so i can send some to you. I have just started collecting addresses so I can send stuff out as a susprise.
Welcome back. I am sorry to hear about you loss.
Dave
Hi Lee, I see we have had the same kind of summer. I am so sorry for your loss and your mother's fall though. I can't imagine how that must have been. Anyway, on the garden side I can help. I am finishing up a large swap next week and should have an up to date list then, let me know what you want and/or need and I can send lots of seeds.
Jnette, you may be right, If i slow down and take things 1 room at a time, I may be able to do most of the deep cleaning myself. We moved the indoor birds out to the aviary yesterday. I miss them already, but I couldn't breathe at all when I went downstairs. I can't explain how the ozone machine works, but it does. I have been told it kills all kinds of mold spores and mildews, bacteria and virus. It was something my uncle suggested to me.
I really feel for you all on the prices of surveys. I most definitely went into the wrong business.
Anyway, I just wanted to check in, I hope everyone has a great day. Linda
Thanks to all of you, I really appreciate the offers of seed. I like anything that grows, but my most favorites are anything that is different. I lost all of the datura (moon flower here) hibiscus, nicotiana (giant). The little baby petunia waves were so pretty in June for the yard tour, but by July, they were toast with everything else. All of the starts I got from the nursery ( second time around) lost. I don't know where to start, so anything is great. I have nothing to trade so wouldn't be able to do the swap thing. Lynn and Jeanette, did I tell you I lived in Maple Valley Wa for 30+ years? Boy what a difference in gardening. Here it is mostly gumbo. Usually I do hanging baskets and then at the end of the year I add to my flower beds. Helps a little. Halloween is my favorite holiday and if I can figure it out, I will post a picture of the stagecoach the DH built decorated. Thanks again, Lee
Lee, you don't need anything to swap. I'll ask Starlight if you qualify as a "Survivor", which means you can ask for all of the seeds you want, and you do not have to send anything in return. Aren't gardeners a wonderful sharing group? What do you think Jeanette?
Yup, let me know what Star says. I will see what I have also. I still have a lot. Lee, what do you mean by datura moonflower? Have you tried any of the other daturas? Also, I have Morning Glory Moonflower seeds.
Lee the stage coach is to die for. Bob just loved it. We used to have so much fun with the kids when we lived in Seattle. He had the front yard all decorated up with the casket etc. and all kinds of stuff in the trees, then he had a tape recorder hidden in a bush with a witches laugh and stuff on it. I would watch out the window and tell him when to start it playing. That witch would just scream. She would be wonderful with your stage coach.
The parents that were with the kids just loved it too. Tell your husband what a good job he did on it. We live so far out here in the boonies that we don't get any kids. That is one of the worst things about living here.
Jeanette
lee
That stagecoach is just fantastic ! Really great imagination there
Love the stagecoach!
Jnette,
Sent ants a dmail and she is sending me some of the pepper seed . Thanks for telling me she had them.
