Hi Everyone,
I didn't fall off the edge of the world, but I feel as though I have been hanging on by my fingernails. Hopefully I am back now though and ready to start some winter projects. I just wanted to say hi.

You're sounding better now than the last time I heard from you Dave. That's great. Jeanette

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Why am I not seeing any of Dave's comments? Have I been banned? JB

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Has anyone even heard from Dave? I haven't and have been wondering how he was doing and if he had his surgey done yet or not.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Dave had surgery on his shoulder Tuesday. They found that his rotator cuff was torn. I think it is really very painful. He was heavily medicated.

He had sent me some plants that I had bought from him so he answered my dmail. That is why I had heard from him. He probably will be on this week, just bear with him 'till then.

Jeanette

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I have seen him on facebook but not here and I thought it was because I was not getting the posts. I did not know the results of the surgery. How nasty. He must be hurting big time. I knew he had a new pain pump installed or whatever they call it inplanted, oh well, he did , and that was the last I heard. Lets give a big hug to Dave.

HERE IS MY BIG HUG DAVE.

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Hugs to you Dave hope you are doing OK.

I know what he is going thru with the torn rotor cuff as I had to have 2 surgeries done on just one of mine and now the other is the same way and just don't have the money to get it done. Very painful and makes using the arm very difficult.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

What do they do to fix it ff? Must have to sew it together? Is it arthoscopy surgery? Maybe Dave will tell us if it is a new way. Maybe with that type of surgery he won't be able to use his typing hand?? I have never had that before. I have heard it is quite painful.

Jeanette

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

The only pain I really had with mine was b4 the surgery. There is some pain but not severe while doing the PT. On my shoulder they have done it both ways. The first time was arthoscopic and then the next time was actual open surgery cause it couldn't be fixed the right way doing it arthoscopically. Yes they go in and actually sew the tear up just like you would repair a tear in clothing. You can function after the surgery but limited on movement for the first few weeks ,like lifting anything and then after a few weeks you can lift no more than a couple of LBS if that, just depends on your Dr as what he wants for you.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Isn't that cuff a muscle?

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Yea it is the cuff that attaches the muscle to the bone.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

OH JOYmore bone pain.. lol

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

There you are ! Haven't heard from you and was worried about you and how you were doing. Did you have your surgery? If so how are you coming along? Oh the bone pain will go away after the surgery and PT . LOL I have no trouble with the one that I had done now that it is all over and healed.

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

HELLO DAVE glad you are back. How does your garden grow?????? The weather is about to change here and I am beginning to harvest those Eggs from the Egg Plant bushes so the frost does not get them first. I am hoping I can get them to give me some seeds. Take care my friend, so you around. JB

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Dave:

Sending prayers for less pain and a fast recovery. Sorry you had to go through this and hope that once the healing is over with you will be WAY BETTER.

Janet

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I don' t think bone is paining. I think it is the muscles that they are dealing with. Stretching and sewing or whatever you have done. When I had hips and knee replaced they stretched the muscles to keep them out of the way so that is what hurt so bad. Just like a "pulled" muscle. Once I understood that I worked it out.

Yes, they had sawed off the end of the leg bone "femur" but that isn't what hurt.

Jeanette

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

howdy: sorry bout da typos... yea its mostly the nerves they ran through...then the bone pain....shaved 3 spurrs and the end of th collar bone to make room. today was a bit better ... looks like we will hitlower to mid 30's friday. wouldn't it figuire i am not ready for the cold. ohwell I think I can get everyone in a safer spot till i can have the winter shuffle done....hmmm winter shuffel ...a new dance ???
Has anyone been looking forward to next years intro's??? I think I have a small wish list so I should do okas far as cash shortage though anyone have any money tree seeds to trade???

Dave

oh yea this little lady was visiting th other day. always a good thing to see

Couldn't figure out what she was for a minute Dave, she was upside down. Yes, it s good to see. All of my plants got hit bad by frost. I had 3 new brugs all budded and have not seen them bloom yet. Well, maybe next year.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Dave glad to see you back on, and hope each day bring more and more relief.

Stopped in at a garden center on the way home from having some more tests at the hospital and the garden center manager told me that our zone had been reclassified as a zone 6 now...... What I say, as surely the folks making that decision hadn't been living here.... There is no way you are going to make me believe we are now a zone 6.... nope now way... I'm still basing my plant selection on Zone 5 just to be on the safe side.

We the good news these days is that we got our mortgage reduced. We are now in the 3 month new payment trial period. But if DH doesn't get his unemployment benefits extended we will be worse off than before cause without his salary we are sunk It looks like the nuts on the hill will vote in another extension but it will only be for 3 months. I went to an employment agency to see if they could help me find a new job with higher pay and good health benefits as come March our Cobra health insurance payment goes to 850. a month.... To me if the employer lays you off they should be paying the 65% of cobra until you have found health coverage somewhere else. Just a price they have to pay for laying you off..

Well I've got my hoop greenhouse framing and my plastic ready but hate to go to the trouble of putting it up to then have to take it down should we end up losing our house.... So I'm thinking I'll just wait till early next spring to put it up... and go from there.

I just want to stay in this house a few more years to then get it on the market and sell it. This way we don't totally damage our credit for the rest of our lives.

I picked up a few shrubs that were on clearance that I just couldn't resist. Beauty bush and the other one is new too me and I can't remember the name. Will get that tomorrow and post a picture of them. The shrub had white berries during the winter. A very interesting one which is why I just couldn't leave it behind...LOL

night all

Janet

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Hi everyone Jeanette, Janet: I think I would find some cheap zone 5 plant at just see how well they do for you.. I do agree caution is needed but you may finds some micro climates where you can use some of the others as well. let me know i may have a few i could send you
more to follow
Dave

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Janet, I think the rest of us just feel so helpless to know what to tell you to help. It seems like there has to be an end to this mess soon. Did it do any good to go to the employment office? Any encouragement from them? I never did think that cobra thing was fair.

Do you have children? Or is the 850 for just you and your husband? That is so awful. My sister was paying $800 per month for just herself and then she had a $3000 deductible. That is no less than catastrauphic. sic. She was sure glad when she turned 65 so she could get Medicare. Isn't that something, to be so glad when you age? I sure hope something comes of this crap that is going on in DC.

Good Luck, Jeanette

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

howdy:
feeling a bit better today.. I was going to say that the cobra coverage for the unemployed was written by the politicians in dc and now they want to fix this issue of noncovered citizens.... nice thought but I am afraid will be a bigger mess.
anyone know how to tell a politician is lieing?

their lips are moving....

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

Oh the Medicare isn't something that will work real well either. My DH is on it and it won't cover half of the bill most times. He had congestive heart failure here about 4 years ago and he has to have a test done every so often that cost about 3000.00 and Medicare only paid 50.00 some dollars on it ?

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

Don't get me started. I am on my soapbox today because of NASA sending a rocket to the moon to find water. Well, I'll be if my kids would have come up with something like that I would have had their hides. Can you imagine? I suppose they want to create jobs building a pipe line to the moon for water. That would be something. What is this world coming to. So much waste of money going to space when here on earth we are having a time just surviving. I told you not to get me started. Hugs to all of you and I pray we all live to see better days.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Dave glad to hear you are doing better, I hope your recovery will continue to be good and less and less pain each day.

I grew up in Alexandria, Va, went to school there, worked on the hill and at the Pentagon, Politics doesn't care about the people. All that congress wants is to do something that will make them rich.

The only way to change is to get the people to rise up and put a cap on the number of years (just like the Presidency) someone can serve in congress and senate. Then you don't have the old boys club running things that will benefit them personally.

Ok off my soap box..... that is the number one reason I left the area. It made me sick and that was 25 years ago.....

Ok the name of the shrub is well fire, I went out to get the tag off the tree and I couldn't find one, now I'm gonna have to call the center to get the name.... darn... see I was looking and then found another that was fuller so I pick it up.... didn't notice that it wasn't tagged.

Janet

Well, I know Dave (Admin) says no politics, but just this one, Washington state elected a new guy that said Term Limits. Yeah, until his time was up. Then he said Kings X. I was just foolin. Was in for another term before we kicked him out.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Charming Fantasy Snowberry is the name of the new shrub for me.

Oh my from the first I love it and if it can handle the winters here then it is a for sure keeper....

(Jnette ps, way to go for yall)

Wrightstown, NJ(Zone 7a)

I do apologize for yesterdays outburst. At 81 is is difficult to shut up about some issues.
I could be more ladylike. Oh well, what you see is what you get. I promise to be good today. Actually, I am too tired to get emotional.

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

JB: i am sure we all have a view of what we need and what is a waste:
I am doing a bit better each day. I am forceing myself to do a little bit every day.
well I am sending some rain to you JB. its been a real frog strangler.
I will try to get back on l8tr. falling asleeep.
nite nite
Dave

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

JB, Don't feel bad about sounding off. I am really good at it and I am only 62 so age has nothing to do with it. I think we all have the right to our opinions and I am rather frank about mine but I try not to say much on here as I know it is a NO NO.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

LOL, you guys, when I hear about people on youtube and the others that is not my cup O tea, so we just sit here and yell at the TV. Just our way of venting and so far the TV is still in tact.

Jeanette

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

I too want to say how sorry I am (but after learning what I have today, it just lights my fire again).... enough...

So does anyone else have Charming Fantasy Snowberry?

Janet

Washington, IN(Zone 6a)

No but wouldn't mind having one. They are very pretty.

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

I will have to look and see what they are. We have wild ones all over the place. I can't imagine a hybrid one.

Jeanette

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Yup, same ones we have growing wild, just more berries. These probably would have more if they were taken care of.

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

I did read that they were very posioness, and to some might cause skin rash.... Wow guess I should have done homework before purchasing this one. But when ya see something you have never seen before, you kinda look around to make sure no one is coming up from behind to wisk by and grab it from your hands and out the garden center into their car never to be heard from again they go......LOL

If it stops raining this weekend I'll get a picture.

Later

Janet

Northeast, WA(Zone 5a)

Janet, there are very few plants in your yard that don't have some bad trait about them. Don't worry about it . Plant it in a place where no one will have contact with it and enjoy it.

I have lived around them all my life and nothing bad has happened to me that I know of. LOL, maybe that is why I am so cranky. And here I thought it was a privlege of old age.

Jeanette

Brooksville, FL(Zone 9a)

Jeanette.......... I'm roflol

thanks

Janet

Tulsa, OK(Zone 6b)

Good morning:
Jeanette is correct about negative traits. I would read up on it as much as possible. does it spread? My mom bought a plant from a cataloge and planted a couple of camielian (spelling ???) and now she cant get rid of it. we have tried everything. It still comes back. I tripple check everything because of her issue.
well I went through the looking glass and am on the other side. it hurts like hell. bad rotator cuff tear and lots of spurrs.
I am starting to finalize my winter prep. I am a bit behind but I am hopefull It will all be done this weekend. Good news is that I have been given a couple more shelves in the garage. Just have to seal off the garage door. It is a big source of heat loss. I am thinking of building walls of plastic to keep the growing area warmer. anyone have any hints or suggeations?
I am hopeing to have 1000 to 1500 cels ready for the spring. I have 100 muhley grass going atthe moment and hope to have some other grasses going by spring.
what is everyone growing this winter?
I am glad to be back among the living. I am still moving slowly until my next dr visit. I don't think pushing it would be a good idea.
Dave
