Thanks for the comments on the stagecoach. It is up year round, and summer usually has it surrounded by baby's breath. As you can see, it is pretty dried up, but thought it looked kinda spooky so left it. I also have my breezeway decorated for the kids, kinda an outside haunted house under the stars. Some things move, some make noise, some do both.
I don't know what to say about seeds plants and etc. I love the datura's, have tried several, but the only one that seems to do well is a single white that they call moonflower bush here. The hibiscus were seeds given to me last year in a newbie pkg. I always try to have something different to create interest from one year to the next. Most everything is treated as an annual here, since it is zone 3-4. I have several spots that have acted like maybe zone 4-5, but seems like it works for a couple of years and then pooof-gone. I had a few flats of things I wanted to start, used Dave's dip and grow, but guess you have to keep them watered also :( I usually have the breezeway filled with pots of different things, to make it look tropical, this year was supposed to be a hibiscus and tall grass around the two fountains, started out looking pretty good. If anyone has some of the different grass seed, I would love some.
Anyway, as I said I appreciate anything anyone has extra. Just D-mail me so I can at least send some postage.

Propagation: part X based on my own experience
Lee, I have seeds for grasses, I want to try next year so I purchased some during this summer but it was too late to plant them this year so am waiting till the spring. I love them. I also have requested quite a few on the swap. Do you want tall, short, bunch, weeping, or??? I have some now, and by the time I get the swap seed I should have a pretty good selection. I will go thru and query them to see what hardiness zones they are first. No sense sending ones that won't grow there.
I think I still might have some hibiscus seed too, but those might be something you would have to protect in the winter don't you think?
Jeanette
Tall and weeping grasses are best but any are OK Hibiscus were brought in for the winter, I had a couple of trees, and a couple of bushes that I kept over that way for a couple of years. I also have treated them as annuals. This year was my first at trying a few different ones. Poor babies, never had a chance. Even got seed from the Hibiscus society but.... Most of my starts are treated as though they wouldn't make it thru the winter, and then gradually I get brave and leave them out longer and longer. Anything new I try, get their start in pots and in the breezeway the first year. Then out into the garden they go and make room for new experiments I always try to have some plants that have a scent as well as some for color. With two fountains I try to make it seem as though you are out in the boonies somewhere, not in town, at least in my little 10 x 30 breezeway part of which is covered. I always used my houseplants for greens. and Norfolk pine for trees, although they are kept out of direct sun.
Thanks for thinking of me. Lee
Tall, weeping, and hibiscus. Sounds like an easy order to fill.
Also, hopefully some ornamental sweet potatoes maybe in the spring when they won't freeze in the mail. What are your temps running now lee?
Jeanette
Just had a week of beautiful Indian summer after temps in the low 30's and teens at nite. Prediction of back down to 40's after the weekend. I really do hope I can get some SP starts again. Actually, I am pretty easy to please unless you ask DH :)

I do have a few blackies left that I hope to get some more starts off of, and also there are some tricolors on the Marketplace, maybe I will see if I can get some of those before it is too cold to mail them here.
Problem is, I can't send out more than a few and hope that you all can multiply them for yurselves over the winter.
Lee, I have some Stipa Mexican Feathergrass 'Pony Tails'. This has been a very well behaved and easy to take care of grass for me. I also have some Blue Fescue, and a few seeds of a Miscanthus.
I have quite a few Hibiscus seeds that I will send to you also.
Do you like 4 o'clocks, calendula's and short French marigolds? I have TONS of seeds from them. How about Hollyhocks? Echinaceas? Lupines? Delphinium?
I am not a fan of calendula, marigold or hollyhocks,( seems like everyone here grows them) but all the rest are good especially the grass. Thank you. Lee
Anything else that you don't care for?
he he he WEEDS. Sorry couldn't resist. I can't think of anything else
AHH BUT THE true deffintion of a weed is a plant growing where it is not wanted. soooo therefore we could not send you any weed seed ever. dandilion, clover and bermuda grass it is....Just some new idea's
Dave
That was a good one guys.
Dave, I have some knappweed, Toadflax, let see, what else, Lee, what else do you not like?
Are we snots or what? Just havin' some fun. Mine would go with the stagecoach which I LOVE!!.
Jeanette
How about the little gophers that are on the side between the back and front wheels. Probably can't see them, but they are there.
Have you tried Caster beans? Don't know if they would work against your little critters but I can send you some beans to plant. They, like everything else, are poisonous. They work on moles. Don't kill them but run them off.
Jeanette
Don't think the caster would hurt these critters, they are frozen in place. (ceramic :) Needed to get back at you guys for the weedy comments. Yes, I have used caster bean plants for trees for the last 4-5 years. I only have a couple of trees in the front yard, so I use them in the back for the tall interest. If you have some extra seed, I would love some. Mine didn't have time to produce any this year.
Lee, that was funny. Good grief, you have to MAKE moles? I'll send you some of those too. Not ceramic. That'll show you!!
I will wait until after we finish the seed swap so I can give you some out of the ones I get too. 'cause I got different caster beans coming. I think one said black. Now, I have red, which I love, besides the green. The red is burgundy stems and leaf veins. Very pretty. Also, I think the flowers are really pretty. I know others have said they weren't very attractive, but I sure think they are.
I expect the seed swap to finish up sometime in January. Since the cutoff date isn't until the 15th of December!!
Jeanette
Thanks a bunch for all the effort.
Thought it would get to all of you that I had the little critters faked. They live in big " towns" here and the hunters go after them for sport yk yk. They call them prairie dogs. I think All things should be left to their own destiny. Moles in Maple Valley hated me tho, I used human and dog hair to send them packing and it worked every time.
I went out and cut some clematis today, thought even if they were brown and dried up on top, the bottom ones were a little green, maybe I can propagate some from them. I have several blue, one deep purple (late bloomer) and a couple of varigated ones along with the white. Don't even know if they will start from low cuttings, but gots to try. I think I am having withdrawals from gardening, just got to get my hands dirty. Lee
lol, let me know if those things, clematis, do anything. Jeanette
What do you think Dave? can I start clematis from low cuttings, or am I just wishful thinking?
Lee
Lee, Do you want some Clematis cuttings? I can send them to you with your seeds.
Lee,
I have had clematis root from pieces I have just pinned to the ground. It is a shame my chocolate vine hasn't rooted that way. I hope all is well, for everyone this has been a really tough week for me. The birds have all gone to their new home and I do miss them terribly. However the time I spent in the aviary catching them has really been hard on my lungs and I am having a terrible time trying to get enough air. We are getting lots of rain from the remnants of tropical storm Ida, so I have no choice but to remain indoors and rest as much as possible. I am taking it easy and not doing anything that can't be done sitting or stretched out on the couch. LOL ( I think there is a really big part of me that is becomming so lazy there isn't an adequate word for it. ) I see so many things I need to work on, but I just don't have the energy.
Anyway, Once we get the aviary cleaned and the flights taken down, I will convert it to a greenhouse. Last winter I overwintered my real tender tropical things in there, this year, I will have room to actually start things there and not take over my kitchen and dining room and game room and porch with plants. My hubby and son will be so happy!
Is anyone starting cuttings of any kind now?
Just wanted to check in.
Have a great day, linda
I looked again Lee, those little critters are so cute. (since they are ceramic) LOL They call them marmots here. Only time i saw someone after them was some guy practicing with his bow and arrow.
Jeanette
Boy Linda, is there any way to clean your lungs out? That is really bad. Bird dander is as bad as dog dander. Just more flying around probably. Do you have air fliters in there? I know that couldnt clean your lungs but would help clean the air.
Jeanette
