Lovely photos, Betty, but Lincoln's birthplace is in Hodgenville, KY.
There is no town called Elizabethville, although you probably went through Elizabethtown to get to Hodgenville. Easy to get it confused.
It is really a pretty memorial to Lincoln, and fun to tour the buildings and shops. Glad you enjoyed it.
Both Debbie and I thought it was Elizabethville..ooops...no real signage other than that did we see, perhaps the excitement clouded our eyesight..thanks for the info..when I make a memory book of my travels I do want to get the correct name or else how would I find it again...next time half the pieces in the little shop WILL come home with me....
Missy says hi to Daisy..told her all about how much they resembled each other character wise...think she was jealous..
I'm on the lookout for metal..lol...
In October there is a big art show in Meaford, missed Kempenfest in Barrie as I was travelling, so I'll get a chance to purchase some metal art pieces that may resemble yours Bev...
Then I'll have a Bev garden..lol
Girls her marble slabs within the gardens were to die for..not sure where she got them..I'm hoping Debbie took photo of the area that her seat is marble and then a rock/wood area is her table..must have missed that one..
I didn't have my camera with me often so I'm sure Debbie took photo's of all the other gardens on my behalf...
I think I've been there, but not to sure, I was pretty young, well, 11 years old.
Betty and Debbie thanks for sharing the pictures! Can't wait to see more. I'm so glad you two had the best of times visiting and traveling
LOL Debbie, Betty was trying to get over the fence to see Elvis! I was there!
Well I'm not going to be doing much today, at 10am it was 88 degrees with a real feel of 102, at noon it's 87 with a real feel of 108! Yikes!!
Well you just enjoy Crissy, working out in the heat can be dangerous...off to post on the fairy swap threat..must show the pretties..see you there..
Bev, love this picture...I've a chair that similar, bottom done with mesh..actually the potting bench was part of the 3 pieces I made, will have to take photo so you can make it..lol..as though you have time...
I'm not doing anything outside today, those plans were changed at 10am! Glad you came through when you did.
I didn't answer you, the birdie is wonderful but the motor in mine makes a lot of noise, so it's not what it's cracked up to be. Cute though. I was going to give it to my mom for her birthday but it would scare her Beagle Scout to death, so maybe that's not such a good idea, I'll just drive Dave nuts with it since he dug up my Edible Hibiscus the other day :( :( :( :(
Bev your gardens are gorgeous!! Someday when I grow up...
Laughing here Crissy, am sure you will drive Dave nuts with it..time to change the batteries in mine..it actually acts as a doorbell..chirps a mile a minute when someone is at the door...
Bev, saw that you had several pieces of marble..both Debbie and I wondered if there was a company nearby that you are able to get the pieces or at auction, know you enjoy the bidding on items..could see that by several of the items you were showing me...
So very pretty..
You both be careful out in that heat/humidity...can you believe I didn't get out of my jammies today..flitted out in the gardens, came in, no housework to do so I stained a table that I painted insert for..inserts come out so I can change with the seasons..thought if I didn't get it done I'd be 3 seasons behind..lol
It's cold in here..just came down to get some socks out of the dryer so they'd be hot and my feet would warm up...can you imagine, laying on the couch with blankets...no happy medium..you have extreme heat and I have the cold...
LOL Betty, 3 seasons behind! I'd rather have the cold, you can bundle up as much as you want, but you can only undress so far.
I've been doing laundry all day, I'm not feeling my best. If I cock my head to the right it pulls that muscle on the left side from my ear down to my shoulder blade. Got Dave asleep in the middle of the living room floor all Ben Gayed up. Hopefully that loosens his back some, he's so stove up he couldn't walk earlier. It was funny, he got all sideways in the recliner sofa and dozed off, when he woke up and was trying to get up he couldn't move and just started grunting really loud, Tiga about went nuts and kept running back and forth from me to him while cooing and meowing. She was saying, "Mom!!! Something's wrong with Dad!!! MMMOOOMMM!!! DOOO SOMETHING!!" He got down off the couch onto the floor, I put Ben Gay and a blanket on him, she laid beside him for a good hour.
Hello!
Survived the party, the girls and Paul did a great job, and I mean great! I was really so proud of them I only made my speghetti salad last night (3 lbs worth) and they did everything else. Nice turn out today, the weather held til the last hour then a bit of rain.
Not going to post alot....I have been grounded. My legs/feet are in very bad shape....and someone mentioned if I don't get them up and resting they are calling the doctor or taking me for a trip. NOT! So, I gotta quit being stubborn, get to bed....and get off of them.
Here is a quick picture from today. Betty....those pictures turned out very nice of Bev & Scottys and also Lincolns cabin....I so wanted to see that.
Your gardens are looking great also.
I will post more tomorrow unless someone unplugs my computer on me.
Debbie
Hello To All;
Deb - SO proud of Shannon! Tell me about the Party...I see the cake and poster...any other "Grad Party" ideas?
It is so wonderful to follow your trip...I feel like I've taken a vacation myself... BEV - LOVE your gardens....I do see the similarity to Betty's....Judy & Liz - It's great to put a face to the names! Great pics with the DH's! LOL at the stories....HA - Motorcycle Escort!
Next trip - Louisiana! If I can't vacation ...then you'll have to come to me! :)
Might be a few things you might want to see here? Mardi Gras? Avery Island? Plantation Homes? Swamp Tours? Crawfish Boils? Festivals? Hmmm...what will it take to entice you ?
Here is my day.... Woke up and DH had already mowed all the yards....I begged him to let me take him to Waffle House for Breakfast....which we NEVER do...something just MADE me do that....we ended up at Waffle House around 11:15am. While eating... DH was looking out the window watching a landscape crew totally eradicate the office next door's landscaping...I mean it was sad how they treated those poor plants...well my "Trash Pirate" Husband, after breakfast, had me bring the car next door.....by the time I picked him up ...he had made a deal with the guy in charge....bought the palm tree that was dug up and leaning on the dumpster....for $100.
DH spent all day working on getting that tree planted....I hope it 'lives' ...it really looks good...I'll attach a pic.
More later....Hugs to All;
Mary
Mary!!! I want your yard!!! That is beautiful!!
Still very cool here, the prediction for most of the week...still don't know if we will ever get any measurable rain out of it....we could sure use some. I wish we would get a good drenching rain and then get back to summer....we have had such strange weather this past year..........
Everyone sleep well and have great Sunday.
Trisha it has been a weird summer. First you're wet, then sweltering, now cool.
With us, we float away in May, get sweltering heat all June, float away in July (200% of rain above normal,) now we're sweltering again. My poor plants can't figure out if they're supposed to be growing or blooming.
On top of all that we had SNOW at Christmas......the last time that happened was the year my son was born (1972).....and last year we had snow in late April! Mother Nature is getting very confused lately...
LOL!! I never had snow in CA, I was 4 the last time it snowed in Modesto, but here we get ice about 3 or 4 times and one snow in February that amounts to about 2 to 4 inches. Last year we got a lot of ice, not as much as Missouri, Northern AR, and Kentucky did, I'm glad everyone up there made it out alright. I guess there was a real bad ice storm here in 2000.
Hey Trisha;
Well - the 2 Potato vines have rooted! I just wish I had some direction on how to send to you....if I don't get any....I'll just "Wing it" and wrap the roots in wet paper towel...then foil...then mail...
DH is supposed to help me send the cannas....
My problem is that I can only mail out on Saturday...since I have to be at work everyday....in the morning... We'll see ...maybe I can get it out this week...I Hope So !
(((HUGS)))
Mary
So far everything I have sent (which isn't much) I wrapped the roots in damp paper towel placed the towel wrapped root in a plastic bag and mailed it out....the same way I have received most of the plant material sent to me....all have done well !
Will look forward to them if you get the time....but right now I know you have a lot on your plate with the new job and all so if you don't get the time there is always next year!
Morning,
Sorry all, I got your rain, started about 9pm and recently stopped..Cathy had the hose just laying on the ground for watering so hosed it up on the reel..
Calling for high temps and muggy...after spending the week in same I'm sure I will survive..
Can't believe I didn't do a thing yesterday but relax, mostly on the chesterfield..furries aren't leaving me so guess they had a day of rest as well...
Bev, did see the marble piece, adorable..aren't you the lucky one...will have to start looking at the Habitat for Humanity center, they get lots of goodies so maybe I'll get lucky..
Crissy, how is Dave this morning? funny (not the ha/ha kind of funny) how animals can sense such things...
Debbie, I'm so glad you didn't spend time on the trip worrying about the graduation, you knew that they'd all come together in a pinch and get things done...see now, you'll have to let go of some of the reins and make them do more...such a pretty lady and love the cake...was the hall big enough to accommodate everyone when the rain started...guess some from out of town stayed overnight?
Family is right you know, you must get off those feet, you'll have to see if they get better once the humidity has passed..won't hurt you to go to see the doctor though just to make sure it isn't something totally un-related...
Mary, your yard is spectacular..how nice of DH to negotiate and bring home the palm...it look healthy enough, don't you just cut off those brown leaves? guess you'll have to water a lot..is $100 a good price for a palm? can't imagine you putting it in your car...with this heat I bet you are spending your days in the pool....already you've put in what? 2 weeks at the new job..making friends..things are easier and less stress, bet family can see the difference...
Trisha, had a Canadian gardener send me a box of plants and that's how they were wrapped..all survived..kept thinking of you while on my trip, can't imagine going through all the heat you've been having...
Was telling Shar, what I found most strange and think Debbie did as well, not seeing a lot of people outside, i.e. kids playing, people out walking but then it's the extreme heat, healthier to stay inside...
Tubby, anxious to hear about your project?
AnnMarie, hope you are doing ok sweetie...
Judy/Liz hope the weekend up at the cottage is what you all needed..boating/fishing/camp fires....drats, wish I could have gone with you...just remember, I've a 2008 and a 2009 photo taken with both of you, 2010 my house...of course it goes without saying..all are invited, doors always open and rooms to share...
Well, Joel Olsteen will be on in a few minutes, time for morning sermon then outside I go..still overcast so not sure it's a good boating day... if the sun finally comes out, I'm out of here....
Enjoy your day
Betty I love Joel, We watch him every Sunday morning. We are not going to get Scotty out today either. It was 78 out when I got up with terrible cramp in the calf of my right leg. Been having lots of those in feet and toes and legs here lately. Well have to get busy. Got to give Scotty a good shower and just try to relax whatever that means. LOL. Hugs to you all. BEV
Bev, did the new doctor that Scotty has been seeing accepted you as a patient as well, maybe you had better get it checked out, can't have you sick...
Well it's not nice weather out there, storm passing through so there goes garden and boating plans..not so sure I'll have hydro much longer so am downstairs seeing what I can find to entertain myself..just so dark..Sailor is having a fit, underfoot with each step I take, lordy she's terrified of thunder/lightning...
Can't capture the rain with my camera but can capture the darkness...
It could be too, Betty, that since our schools start the first week in August, that's why you didn't see kids out playing. If you had passed a school, you might have seen them there. Or maybe not, in this heat. It has been in the upper 90's all week, except the night it rained, and even then it felt like a sauna outside.
Great price on the palm, Mary. How many people did it take to get it planted, and however did you get it home?
Betty, he's retarded. He can barely move, either goes to work tomorrow, which is a physical job, or goes to the doctor, and he's on the rider mowing the lawn which is sopping wet from dew. Iye yey yey. I was out planting and I can't stand to watch him, so I came in. It's about time I start cooking breakfast anyway. Ooo tomatoes, I need to go pick some tomatoes!
I haven't shipped any plants yet, but everything I've received has been wrapped the same way you're describing Trisha and all has survived.
Bev I've been having a lot of cramps in my ankles and toes lately too. The night before last I had a charlie horse in my right ankle that wouldn't go away, I put Ben Gay on it lol it worked!!
Mary that's neat about the palm. Not a good idea to plant a palm here.
The South has the true meaning to "Dog Days of Summer." LOL No one goes outside unless they want to take a bath within 2 minutes.
Are you having dragonflies there Shar? There are dragonflies everywhere here, and they're thick! I love them but I've never seen so many in my entire life, do they migrate?
Dragonflies are here, Crissy, but not overwhelmingly so. They like the humidity.
I guess they do migrate, don't really know.
Had our bit of sunshine for the week for about half an hour.....cool and clouds predicted for the rest of the week...do so want to get some rain out of this...we need it badly!
We have regular Dragonfly visitors to the pond....not huge numbers but three or four regular visitors...are getting more birds and insect visitors as the lava rock is slowly getting replaced by plants and water.
Finally went to the Estate Sale at Doris'......I got a small weed puller she had, an exquisite little thing, have never seen one like it before....I love odd tool...old tool......old furniture
