That's the scene I was imagining when I didn't put a tree up this year. I already call my kitty (Bozz) jungle cat because he loves to go hide in the center of any "groupings" of plants. I can just see him climbing up the tree with my dog (Max) trying to catch him. Maybe I'll just have a bare tree and see what happens. Training right? You may have to put an electric fence up around your BF's tree.
When I had my older dog and Max was a puppy I put the fragile ornaments on the top half of the tree. Max just attacked the tree skirt & he had a thing for eating pine needles. I found out it doesn't hurt them & his breath was piney fresh :)
Kitties are a different ballgame, but it could be pretty amusing if "looked at correctly."
I collect the bird ornaments with the feather tails. I have no idea why LOL! Years ago I saw a cool antique one I had to have and then I sort of got hooked. I try to pick one up every year. :)
Cat invasion
One of my wife's brothers-in-law had a cat investation at his home last year. Told me he caught 68 in a live trap. Did not question him about how he disposed of them. Only know that he doesn't have a problem this year.
Jo and I now have a cat at night. Motion light kept coming on and couldn't figure out why. He finally got up on the window sill where we could see him. All under the picture window is asperagus ferns. Big brown salamander lizards live there. Figured he was feasting on them.
What an adorable picture of him! He looks to sweet to knock the tree over twice LOL!
This link was posted on the joke thread but I had to put it here in case you haven't seen it...

ican, that is great. Hope all the gang takes a look. Speaking of take a look: This thread is more addictive than the 5 packs of Marlbourgh a day I used to smoke. Every time I come in the house, I have to take a look. I think my wife believes I'm on a porno site.
LOL!!!!!!!!!!! Well, garden porn I guess. Is there such a thing?
Jim was cruising DG discussion forums again (too many to check out! AAAA!) and saw the Garden Tour forum. There was a thread to link to someone's garden photos, thought you would be a good candidate for that with your garden shots.
Just in case ;)
Thanks ican, will check that out tonight. If you have time go to the thread about tomatoes and lead, go the bottom of the thread and look at the garden photos of maypoplaurel (think thats right) beautiful garden shots. First time I do believe, I have been envious.
Thanks for letting me know about the garden pics. I tried to find the link, maybe I'm blind. Is it in this forum?
Sorry about that, it is on the Tomatoe Forum. Thread line is about lead in tomatoes.
I have to worry about lead in tomatoes now?? I have been planning on subscribing for a while now, gotta get that done.
What you haven't subscribed?????? I'm shocked! :0
Well if you haven't been told already, you won't regret it for a second.
BTW to give you an idea how much there is to check out, I spend WAY too much time on DG and I haven't been to the tomato forum yet. But I'm going there now :)

Somebody will have to remind me to subscribe this week!
You probably won't regret it and we certainly want ole Dave to make some moola to keep this thing up and running but you will still wind up spending most of your time on the Beginner Forums because they are more fun. Most of the others I have looked at are to serious for my foolish self. Some are downright technical and an ole Red Neck like me is wayyyyyy out of his element.
Lynnie you would have been so proud of me tonight. We had a fellowship meal after Bible School Commensement. All Italian food. Only thing I like as good as fried fish is pasta dishes. Man at the spaghetti and fettuchini, Pasta Heaven. I used real restraint. Bbbburppp!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jim I make a mean marsala sauce.....totally decadent.
DG is the only Internet site I subscribe to and worth every penny! So please come and join us. There reminded!
Look forward to seeing you on some of the subcriber forums.
pajonica
Marsala sauce? Got to find out what that is, but I bet I like it. Maam, I'm just an old peas and cornbread man. I'm ignorant, but willing to learn. I'm also like Mikey of advertising fame, "I'll eat anything,ONCE." Well, except possums, armadillos and rattlesnake.
pajonica, isn't it neat that we are on opposite sides of the world and can share a common interest and fellowship together. I love it.
Jim You just nut shelled it! I love it too.
O.k. I checked out the tomatoes! :) You're right Jim, MaypopLaurel does have a pretty nice yard.
Lynnie you'll be glad to know from what I read it was decided the tomatoes were safe LOL. However when you subscribe you should check it out.
Also get a nice soft pillow for your bum and prepare to be on the computer for awhile!
Lynnie don't worry about the lead in the tomatoes. Farmerdill said not to on that thread but they weren't smart enough to listen to him. Just kept on discussing. Can't image someone dumb enough to disagree with that cat. The very sharpest dude I've seen on Dave's for general gardenig questions. Course if you want to learn about mint, listen to Dave on the Mint Thread. If you want to learn about foolishness, listen to me. I'm full of it. Guess the preacher will get a lot of amens on that one. While I'm on my soap box, does it aggravate you guys when you ask a specific senseable question and no one replys. Geez! It twern't even foolish either.
What was your question ?
I use coffee grounds near acid loving plants and anywhere newly dug. Moth balls or moth flakes keep away rodents and stray animals. (Also are not healthy to you, so use sparingly or in desperation and only outside). neighbors like ground red pepper and red pepper flakes.
Pajonica, that's me trying to catch up on these posts...what were we talking about again? lol
Gardenquilts I toss my coffee grounds around outside every couple of days.
Marsala sauce is made from beef stock & marsala wine. I like it best over short ribs with gnocchi and gorgonzola cheese.
I have herd that dog hair works to keep the "theves" away
pajonica, the question was on another forum. You guys wouldn't be that rude.
The marsala sauce sounds great.
Jim give us a shot at your question, who knows, maybe we can answer it :)
I just asked if anybody had raised Russian Black Tomatoe or Chocolate Cherokee Tomatoe. They were discussing purple Russian. Oh well. No one is as nice as you guys.
Sorry they didn't answer. I haven't tried either of those. If is AK is how they say about growing tomatoes than I won't get a chance too until I have a green house. Are you gonna give them a try? I've seen both in catalogs before, sadly I don't think the chocolate Cherokee really tastes like chocolate.
Had a guy to give me a black tomatoe the other day, he didn't have any idea what it was because someone had given him a bunch of plants. It was one of the best I have ever eaten. Several years ago a guy who run the Farmers Market in Monroe, La. gave me one but I had forgotton the name. Didn't have a place to garden then. Googled it and got a seed company in Florida. Found two tomatoes that looke exactly a like and like the one the guy gave me. One was a Black Russian and the othe Chocolate Cherokee. Seeing the name rang my bell and I remembered the Chocolate Cherokee as being the one from the farmers market. I ordered a packet of both kinds of seeds. I'm going to try a couple of both next spring. The only problem we have is if we don't plant a blight resistent tomatoe we lose about half. I had completely quit raising tomatoes until they came out with 444. Now they have several on the market. 444, 589, 640, Amelia and another I haven't tried and can't remember the name of. I planted some of all the others and all are pretty good. Amelia was new for me and found it to be the best tasting, made a better top crop, no BER at all and made a bigger tomatoe on the top.
I love tomatoes. In WA I had to expand a bed because I ran out of places to rotate them. Heirlooms are supposed to be the bomb. I had 4th of July, Early Girl, Yellow Pear & Sungold every year and was ready to expand to Banana Legs, some Cherokee variety (can't recall which), a white cherry & a couple of others, but life changed things. I'm hoping to get a green house someday and try all sorts.
Well, gotta go play with my critters for a bit. They're attacking me at the computer LOL. Poor things.
I haven't tried veggies yet, but I'm planning to next year....now that the 37 X 12 foot kennel is gone, and the back yard is getting cleared of sumac, there's a LOT of space back there...the kids want to grow veggies, and this is something I should encourage them to do. Maybe the neighbors will do a co-op with me, she has little ones too.
You guys are way over my head with the tomatoes :)
You'll do ok, Lynnie. Check around and see what grows locally. Watch for 5b posts on Dave's. Once you start growing and eating something fresh off your plants, your hooked. All the difference in the world. Good thing for kids to get their hands in the dirt and see something grow.
and I have to subscribe!
Well it's not a have to buttttttttttttttt. $20 bucks well spent.
I don't know if this means anything, but here goes. We have a lot of ferals and strays in my neighborhood. My neighbor thought I was daft for planting catmint, but I couldn't stay away. And, sure enough, the stalks were always broken and trampled, presumably because the neighborhood ferals were having a block party in the plants. I ended up moving them closer to the next row back to see if I could get them more sunlight. The next row back happens to be Russian sage. I've read that animals steer clear of Russian sage because the scent from the bruised leaves interferes with their ability to smell other animals approaching. Well, since then my catmint plants have flourished untouched. I have no idea if it was the R.S., but if you're desperate you might try one near your glads.
or a leash. if it's only your dog eating the plant just supervise her when she's in the yard. A simple command should do the trick!!
If your having trouble with other critters have Bella "mark" her terratory around the garden.
