I think you should reward them for doing such a good job with a lily bud or two.
July in the garden
They've had their fill of daylily buds in the last three nights.
Buggers.
Have you tried putting some really hot pepper liquid on some of the most prominent buds? I don't know if deer are deterred by hot. I know you've tried lots of things, but wondered if you tried that.
Nothing is bothering anything here this year. Tons of rabbits, and they're just snacking on the clover Russ mowed around. I even got a few pailfulls of blueberries, and those usually get eaten quickly.
I couldn't possibly keep up with 2,000 buds a day. Not even when I was younger.
No, just to try it on a few that would be in their direct path. Get a bottle of habanero sauce, and sprinkle a little on.
I can't imagine keeping up with the deadheading. And old daylily flowers look so awful.
We're used to deadheading by now but in heat, and or heat and humidity, it's a big job unless we're out by 6 AM.
Thats when I start. Doesnt take me long, garden is small. Just everyday there is something I didnt see the day before.
It's nice to start the day in the peace and beauty of the garden and deadheading is a sure way to notice every blossom.
Its a drippy rainy day but not enough to do much good .Not even wet under the trees.
Just keeps me out of the garden
Russ gets up around 4-5, and when I wake up around 6 he has the coffee already, so I grab a cup and out I go. It's beautiful that time of morning. I think people that sleep in on a regular basis miss a lot. Of course, most gardeners can't sleep in.
Then there's the lovely twilight time in the garden. So a siesta around one o'clock or so is always nice.
Haven't they all been lately, Jo Ann? Rain, rain, rain.
We didn't get any rain today and the sun came out after we had our lobster rolls so it was perfect.
NDFarmgirl: Your flowers are really beautiful ! Great arbor and your setting is just really WOW !
Polly! it sure has rained a lot but not much moisture here.Clouds and spatters just enough to keep morning pictures at an ebb.
This is the week of the big SIL reunion.40 people are partying at the Organ Shop thank gawd.
Last sunday it was his mothers side of the family 20 people here,I'll be glad to see September come.
Hardly any lilies left. I'll pix the Ligularias and any other plant in bloom, when the sun rises.
Great photos NDfarmgirl!
Be strong, Jo Ann!
This is a repeat for you Pirl BUT
I have to vent as many places as I can
The company is driving me nuts.
I just exploded on my sister who is sympathetic.
The company takes itself out to breakfast but there are morning things to be done in the house since 4 more adults an 2 children will be here as of tonight.
Ron (the cousin) talks constantly, I mean he never shuts up and he asks questions the elicit a response but breaks in with a verbal repeat of what I'm answering and in the middle of giving the info. he needs , he just buzzes off to something else.
He never listens and doesnt think,or many useless questions wouldnt need to be asked.
I have the house to myself all day and take a sleeping pill at night.
My sister says he is a classic ADD. Now I know what I'm dealing with.
Can Monday come soon enough? The reunion picnic is Sat. over 50 people. I am not invited .nor do I want to be there.
Its the final reunion for Aunt Bina, she weighs about 80 pounds without oxygen.
Guests often don't realize how annoying they are!
He told me there are about 50 people coming to the reunion.
16 from California who are staying in hotels.
SIL asked them to do the same, said he would make reservations but as usual Ron didnt listen and insisted on staying with us"It wont be any trouble .We sleep anywhere"
Thats not the problem.
The problem is having food onhand for mealtimes when they are here.
DD is loading up her work hours so she gets home just at supper time and doesnt have to entertain much.
She wont wait on anyone.
Every man and woman for themselves.
From this afternoon on Rons daughter and kids will be here. I doubt they will go anywhere but the livingroom and You guessed it - TALK.
They bought food for the evening meal tonight.
I'm invited but will conveniently be needed elsewhere.
Even a visit to Wal Mart or Home Depot might command your attention just for some peace and quiet.
My husband has some relatives like that. I don't mind treating guests like guests, but these people came often, grabbed a beer, plopped themselves in a chair, and just talked so much you couldn't get a word in edgewise, set the empty beer bottle down on the coffee table, and leave. Now they've gotten older they don't come so often, but in when they were younger it was a weekly event.
As the saying goes, "You can pick your friends, but not your relatives".
Whoever coined that one said a mouthful.
I have a cousin that has 5 kids...every one of them is completely out of control. Not the kids fault, though. The parents are bohemian and don't believe in discipline. It's unbelievable what they let those kids get away with...they're like wild animals. This is a form of child abuse as far as I'm concerned !
I just my Ambien at night and it cures everything.
They are gone most of the day.
I would love to have company anytime because it gets lonely , but the guy rattles on and all I want to do is avoide him.
This is an old plant.
As you can see it needs staking and proping up when in bloom.LOL
Ha! We all need propping up on occasion!
That's for sure! Cute!
Any one ever had 2/3 rds of a lily bulb survive a transplant?
I stabbed the darned thing
Uh oh...the Lily police should be arriving at your door any minute now !

I'm curling up in front of a Victor Mature movie:Guys in short pleated skirts with lots 'o leather and sweat
Accompanied by a pint of pralines and caramel with Smuckers peanut butter topping.
Its a great depression releaver
thanks
2/3 of a lily will survive fine. I've cut many a lily when digging. In fact you can strip the scales off them, and plant them individually and they will make bulb. As long as it doesn't rot.
