The Long View 2009 #3

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

Very nice Pixie and Katye. Yes, overcast is good for pics, some times just waiting for a cloud can help.
I find my camera lacking when I shoot in Auto. Now I shoot in S (speed) with better results. It takes frequent adjustments but worth it.

Beautiful

nice shots Pixie and Katye!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

there must be quite a slope in the yard too celeste?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

This is the side of the house that faces the nieghbors....it does slope some, not to steep.
The campers, ect....are in the neightbors field, not mine.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Very nice, Celeste and Katye.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Luvly long shots all. Andy P. how do you make new clematis? Cuttings? Katye I'm drooling over that beautiful red and green grass. What is it? Pixie I want to add more dwarf iris too! I would like some with variegated foliage. Are there dwarf iris with variegated foliage?

South Hamilton, MA

Not to my knowledge. there is a pallida with it so some TB people are working on that, but I don't know of any dwarf variegated projects. It can be difficult to get variegation to stay without reverting to green.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

So they eventually revert to green irisMA? I saw the beauty pallida at the Denver Botanical Garden this spring and I MUST HAVE.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

DahliaNut, starting new Clematis vines is easy if you are patient.
Find a low growing young stem, run it along the ground, place a small stone on every other leaf node to maintain contact with the ground. It should send out roots under most stones, snip them next spring and pot them up.

I. pallida known as zebra stays variegated--hardiness in question. My variegated sedum changed to green & died the next yr.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Dnut - grass is Imperata cylindrica: Japanese Blood Grass. When you are out this way, let me know & I will dig some up for you. I don't think it would be hardy there, but it does well in a container & could be overwintered. VERY easy to dig, by the way...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

O wow that sounds easy. Thanks AndyP. I'm going to try that with Madame Julia Correvon as I want one in the back too. Katye I can't take plants back over the border without a psyco-certificate sigh. Iris was it that variegated Autumn Joy type? I've heard that one reverts for sure. I like the luvly little sedum spurrium tri-colour. Some years it will have some new growth that has reverted but it is mostly true.

South Hamilton, MA

It was sedum Frosty Morning (white flowers) variegated foliage 2 of the first set which I bought were albinos so those died. The other hung on for a couple of yrs.

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Oh Andy love your pics... the clematis looks wonderful... I miss the dahlias you gave me... I lost all my tubers last year - I am devastated... this year I just got cheap ones at walmart... so sad... my grapes are still small but I have hope! another 2 years right? you said 4 years to produce?
I got a blueberry bush and it has about 10 blueberries! well it's a begining!!!!

I have been working a lot and no time to garden or to check DG - but this is my weekend to do some gardening ... the weeds had taken over... no anymore... far from finished but this is what it looks like today...

i can remember staying with my in-laws on vaca in FL when my mil decided to empty the dishwasher at 5AM - THAT incident had all the potential to be in the news - still remind her about it 5 years later.

SIL and DD have a coffee pot thats set on a timer and goes off at 5:15 that was a treat the first time.
Did you see the ner sidewalk Bill?
We have 9 slabs left and if I keep my mouth shut DD will find something to do with them.

they look like big slabs - expensive too if i remember correctly - you need to find something to do with those can let them go to waste!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

The slabs were a gift from a neighbor who put in a patio and rebuilt their sidewalk with patio pavers.
There is a painting in their future.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

nice neighbors!!

Hello everyone. I have been away a while but lurking every now and again. Been spending a little time at the coneflower forum but not posting too much otherwise. All your pics are wonderful. Such pretty gardens everyone has. The last few weeks or so I have been trying to get the garden in some form of decent condition after the lousy weather in May and June. Pretty blooms and some very unattractive plants due to the wet, slimy slugs, fungus and holes from hail stones. Not the greatest year for a nice pretty garden but flowers seem to help the overall appearance a lot.

It is raining here today, so I thought I would post a couple of long views taken when we had a couple of perfect days, finally this week.

Drooling is an acceptable reaction to Victor's garden. I love that picture Andy P posted of the clematis. Mine are still puny!

Ge1836, great trade, you both got a great deal.

ngam, you have been very busy keeping your garden pristine. Lovely and not a slug to be seen! Patti
