Roses, No, I don't have a separate Daylily bed. I have so few areas with sun that I just look for pockets of light and plant one there. The Asiatic & Oriental lilies grow well in shade so I mix them all through out the beds. I know what you mean about plants drowning in the rain. I lost some Heuchs earlier to that, but now everything is parched to death!

Thanks, Sally, I'll be thrilled to grow some of your Dad's tiger lilies. That Daylily is definitely Frans Hals. I've recently seen several photos of Frans Hals and yours and Gita's are exact matches. I'm glad the Aster is doing well for you. You will be amazed at how big it will get in just 2 years. Last year it bloomed early, in mid August.

Here's my first Honeysuckle bloom. It's Dropmore Scarlet.

Gita, I love that Petunia and Nasturtium combo. Purple and orange is such a great combo. I had to look everywhere this year to find purple Petunias that weren't Waves. I love the smell of Purple Petunias. I bought some Nasturtiums this year with variegated foliage which I quite like.

This Oriental Lily is Super Nova.

Onewish, your Crocosmia shot is really nice and so are all of your bird photos. Crocosmia is my favorite summer flower. None of mine are blooming yet.

This is the first Morning Glory that I've ever grown.

Ruby, Your Daylily Hill is astoundingly beautiful. In a couple of years I should have lots to share. Have you been posting your DLs the DL Forum for IDs? Those gals are really good at nailing them down.

This DL is Decatur Double Dandy.

Holly, that pink lily is very pretty. I love when something gives you a surprise rebloom.

This DL is Mohican Sun.

Gita, Your Lily by the Stump is gorgeous and so is the the other one. It caught my eye when you posted it before. So happy to hear that your Yuk bed will soon be Yummie!

Sally, I don't think Gita's DL is the fulva. I've seen lt in lots of different photos, but haven't ever noticed one with a red eye. I have dug and handled those and there is no mistaking their growth pattern for that of a cultivated lily. The roots are completely different. They are Rhizomatous (sp?) and send shoots everywhere. Within 2 years they will spread about 6 to 8 feet. I inspect all Orange DLs very carefully before planting.

This Hosta, Burchwood Parky's Gold was about 12" across last year. It had been in the same spot for 3 years and wasn't really growing. Last fall I dug it up and moved it 3' closer to the front of the bed. It is now 4' across. I sure hope it doesn't get much bigger.

Claypa, that purple DL is a beauty. Holly, I had seen that thread in the DL forum yesterday and no, I am not going in search of toothed DLs. I was surfing Ebay today looking for some more spider DLs and actually won several for under $3 each. I don't go to the lily auction either. Why go looking for trouble?? Hart sent me the Ebay store page for her favorite Ebay DL seller and I used my entire gift certificate collection with him. You could not believe the size of what he sent. Each one could have been split into three.

This is Spigelia Marilandica blooming in total shade.

Catbird, Your Coreopsis is lovely. Vey nice colors. I am Coreopsis challenged. They are all annuals for me.

Jen, I love that Orange Glad.

I have been trying for three weeks to find a way to photograph these Orienpets to try to give you all the size perspective. I can't hold the camera and the tape measure. They are OVER 10 FEET TALL. They perfume the entire property. I planted them 3 falls ago. Last year, when they reached 7', I thought they were full grown. They are multiplying rapidly.

Claypa, That's a pretty DL seedling.

Maybe this photo will help with the perspective.

I've been following this thread and keep forgetting to post - all I can say is WOW, gorgeous blooms everyone and Ruby, your landscape shot is beautiful! My border of daylilies is pretty but after seeing all these wonderful photos I now realize I need some of the darker colors to add some pizzazz to the mostly yellow and peachy ones. I've been busy and missed so many wonderful photo ops but I did manage to get this one a couple of weeks ago - Pickerel Weed blooming in the small pond by the front of the house. After all the work we did to clean this area up last summer, the pond has now developed a leak :(

too bad about the leak... hope it's an easy fix

Ruby, Lovely shot of your home. Some time Holly and I are down your way, we'll have to see about a visit. I'd really like to get a little time to talk, John and I hardly had a chance at the swap. That hand mattock he gave me is a charm, since I'm a lefty for the summer. Ric

Stormy, Ruby, and Onewish,

The shots taken that show the whole picture are really spectacular. I enjoy having the sense of where everything is placed.

Stormy, you have such great intimate looking gardens.

Ruby, the lily fields are out of site. I probably will have some for you in the future. I have planted 10 this year excluding the ones you generously gave me at the swap.

Onewish, it has always been my dream to have multilevel gardens (which it looks like you have). I have a flat sprawling place that is difficult for me to create the atmosphere that you have.

I think we need a flower beds thread because I sure am enjoying these photos.

No, Sally, I meant we need a thread just for photos of flower beds. LOL It's nice to see the flowers in context.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Ha ha! but this IS up to 222! so its due too. I'll let you do flower beds thread.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

RRR.... see we always want what we don't have... I would love to have your flat property... the slopes are killer some days

Crozet, VA

I know what you mean about slope onewish. I too saw the flat land and wished mine were like that. My backyard is even sloped a bit, but the front yard is the killer. Thank you to everyone who commented on my picture.

Good idea for having a thread for beds, Hart. Did you start a new thread?

Yes indeed, some real lovelies here today. Flowerjen, you posted my very favorite flower....the Gladiolus. I have some cut Glads sitting in my kitchen sink now, waiting for me to come and put them in water. I will take a picture of my dining room bouquet and come back and show it.

Now seems as good a time as any to get my buns a runnin.' Will come back with picture later. Oh yeah Ric, John mentioned your name the other day. He has some goat questions for you. And hey.....please incorporate a stop over here the next time you two will be traveling south. WE would love to see you both and next week I will be setting up an official guest room. So, ya'll come. This goes for any of you who may be traveling south too.

Will be back shortly.

Ruby

Where's the bed thread?
Has anyone started it or should I?

We have extra rooms here in Mount Bethel< PA if anyone is coming this way. This could be the start of some really interesting gardening "time sharing" sort of thing. I would be willing to have guests here in my spare rooms just to talk about gardening and to exchange some plants. Sounds like fun and could turn into something different than a swap (which I also enjoy so much).

I need an experienced DGr to get me started with this. How about you, Critter, or you Ruby, or you Holly, or you Gita or you Stormy, or you Chantell etc. etc. etc.. We'd love your company and your gardening info.

Near Lake Erie, NW, PA(Zone 5a)

I think Doc either knowingly or unknowingly started a "bed" thread or "garden" thread. Or we can hijack it, LOL. What's a little thread Hijacking among friends.
Here it is. http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1015251/
