(almost) July blooms

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Well, finally some rain! Even if only for a few hours, it was greatly appreciated!

Sally, your MG and the Frans Hals are beautiful.

LadyG, I like that Lily combo.

Jen, I cut all of the Asters and Mums back yesterday. Some of the smaller mums had started blooming.

Holly, That Delphinium is absolutely beautiful.

Hart, That Lily is spectacular. Do you know it's name? Thanks for the info re Blooming Bulb. I have their ones. There are 40+ in the series and they are very hard to find.

Nice Hibiscus, Barhea

Norristown, PA(Zone 6b)

Species Tiger Lilies. Now if only Sally will give me some neon orange ones to go with them.

The front bed yesterday just before I cut down the Mums, Asters and Salvias. The Galliardia are going gang busters and all of the Dianthus are now starting to rebloom.

Claypa, I really like that Westbourne seedling DL.

Holly, you're going to have to start tracking your DL names. I want those second two you posted.

I was so excited to see this Ligularia "The Rocket" bloom. I have a number of different Ligularias, but this is the first ever bloom on any of them.

Claypa, after seeing your beautiful white pine, I need to hurry and find a spot for the one that I got at the swap.

Stormy, do you have a separate bed just for all your lilies or are they mixed in. When I start moving everything around I think that I will put all the daylilies in the same bed with airy stuff like perennial baby's breath and coreopsis for the fillers when the lilies are no longer blooming. I don't think that these choices will crowd them out although I am not sure. Those daisies sure look good to me. All your perennials look very fine even though you were lacking rain. I think the rain here slowed mind down because of the constant drenching for almost a month and a half.

I am always happy when something starts creeping up to my deck so that I can enjoy them whem I'm just sitting around.

Sally---What is it that you said "Gita probably has one"????? What is Frans Hahs??/

Were you talking about 4 O'clocks????

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Gita- I believe you posted a pic of a Daylily with three red and three yellow petals. I have one I coulda sworn came from your yard with that pattern, remember when you gave out pieces of Stella Doro and Betsy's red DL you rescued? Like this

stromyla--when the weather cools off later and they start to die down, my dad will have tons to share with us neon orange tiger lily. Your aster is doing well, never faints with this dry spell.

Sally--can't say I recall ever seeing that one. I just looked back to Spring flowers for 2007 and 2006. Not there!

I have some new shots of stuff blooming in my Garden....

Here is the "dwarf", red Coreopsis blooming away. Behind it is the KK Hibiscus which is about to bloom. Has a pile of buds! THAT will be a nice photo Op....

My 2 pots of Geraniums by the front steps. My camera just does NOT pick up bright reds.....bummer!
Next to it is the re-growing Angel Wing begonia. I was late this year cutting it back. I was late with many things.....This week I plan to play catch-up. I only work one day.

Last one--just for you, Chantelle---

Here is the Dr. Seuss Brug you gave me getting a good size now. It also has 2 buds on it.....another photo-op coming up.
My other 2 Brugs are in a "resting stage" at this time.
The CG has not done much yet--but is holding it's own in a pot-in-a-pot setting on my Patio.

Thank you again!

Even without blooms, the dark foliage of your hibiscus looks beautiful with the red coreopsis, Gita. Love the color of those phlox.

I got some Empress of India nasturtium seeds this year and I really like the dark foliage on those. They have bright red blooms, although they haven't bloomed yet. I also got some Alaska seeds - I haven't grown those in years but they have really pretty variegated foliage.

Oh my gosh.....I am not sure if John has seen this thread or not. He will especially love all of the outstandingly beautiful Day Lilies that many of you showed. WOW, WOW, WOW. Even without asking him, I am now officially putting in requests for any Day Lilies that anyone needs to get rid of. We will find the room, even though our current space is becoming quite jam packed. The two goats that are now members of our family were bought for the sole purpose of clearing the other acre or so of our property which is now overgrown. Little did we know how much enjoyment the goats were going to be. For those of you who know John, you will know what I am saying when I mention that he is as in awe of the goats as he is with Day Lilies. He loves to talk about their many antics.

A neighbor took this photo a week or so ago and sent us a copy. We are going to frame the hard copy one that he dropped by for us. We might have to to begin calling our place Day Lily Hill.

Beautiful close up and then a beautiful landscape shot. I like to get yearly planners which combine the two like Audubon and Sierra Club. Thanks!

Sally,

You have some memory!!!!
Seems i DO have the red and yellow Lilies after all--they just started blooming!!! Seems I have them in 2 places too.
What a late-blooming Lily this is! Middle of July! I have about 3-4 different Lilies, here and there, that are late bloomers....Took some pictures yesterday.....

here she is! This is a clump in my YUK bed....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This one is in my long side bed...

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This is another late-bloomer. I just call it "Lily by the stump". it is wayyy in the back of my YUK bed...Kind of pretty...

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Posted a single shot of these before--now the whole clump is blooming! I think I better ID all these lilies while I know what's what--eh?

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

Please take notes I am not crazy after all. I searched threads yesterday and could not find a picture you posted of those bicolors once but swore it existed.
That 'stump' daylily may be a slightly doubled version of the wild one.

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

My field of Shastas.....also in YUK bed. They just multiply and multiply.....
I tell you--this bed will bw full of color in just a couple more years when hart's Clustered Bell flowers and Jill's N.Ch. Daisies colonize.
Also have a lot of Lilies there, Sedum Autumn Joy, my Chrisanthemum Pacificum, etc...etc...

Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Sally--

So noted--you are NOT crazy! Just slightly warped....:o)

Got a suggestion for a more or less permanent plant marker I could stick in these clumps?

Do you know the name of the red/yellow one?

Last picture---Caught a Sphynx Moth sucking away on my Flox....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'll accept warped!!! I know full well that's the best I can do.
Well, for markers, you know that mini blind label is my standby too, but I have a few purchased ones around. Reminds me I did buy a paint pen to go on claypas's tags he generously shared, but where did I put it? agh You could tie a ribbon around the base of that daylily and take a picture of it all as a record. Except when the leaves all dry up it can go away. I did keep track of mine through a picture that showed it's location next to a window by my driveway.

Anne Arundel,, MD(Zone 7b)

I'm calling that bicolor Frans Hals. Thats a variety from the 50's that looks like it. Close enough for me at this point.

Whatever you all do, DO NOT look at the daylily forum, spikes and teeth thread. Its showing the most wonderful ruffley spiky edged DL I can imagine. It'll just get you in trouble.

West Pottsgrove, PA(Zone 6b)

And don't look at the Lily Auction site either (seeds going for $300+ !!!?), but they do have those plastic tags that loop around the base of a plant. I couldn't find any a few weeks ago, kind of too late now.

Me too....me tooo----

Well, you know that sally---she has a 'warped" way to get us all over there.....:o)

Claypa---LOVE your Lily!
