Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #111 visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

School was fundraising and wouldn't you know they had about 40 large boxes of diapers..so for $20. I bought a box that contained 4 pkgs. of 48 so I'll have lots to do that 'diaper cake' that I need for July 12th..might even sit tonight and roll some diapers...

We did a few garage sales as well...here I'm driving down a side street, someone is yelling/whistling and I'm thinking perhaps I've parked where I should not have only to find out it's my nephew Ross's house where the garage sale is..wasn't sure where he lives, now I know...big oak furniture for sale, wood stoves etc. nothing that I could use, but his children found 2 blocks
of oasis for wet flowers, and they gave me a metal stand, 3 candle holders out of metal..said it would look nice in my garden..think my nephew Ross had something to do with that...I'll look for black metal spray paint and see if I can doctor them up, or, just leave them rust like my other pieces...

On my back deck someone had left me a surprise...
Lydia who paints here on Wednesday during the day with Darlene left me round table cloths and a note saying she hoped I'd enjoy...so nice of her!

Doors are always open...I come into the kitchen and here's what I find...now I'm not a drinker, will have an odd cooler what maybe once every couple of years...here's what I found..now I have to find to donor...

Everyone who comes here must be trustworthy..lol...

So, that's how my day is going...

Outside I go to enjoy more of the day..

Sure hope you are enjoying yours....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Everyone must be enjoying their day or perhaps bored with mine....

Had so much fun this afternoon..

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Betty, I'm in big trouble. Remember I told you I found a new quilt shop? Well, I got a new Eleanor Burns quilt pattern (Boston Common Quilt) yesterday and today a friend asked me to take her to the new shop. I did and found just the fabrics I want for this quilt. I am so bad!!!! I'm doing it all in Fusions fabric. It is an easy pattern but time consuming. I'm really looking forward to it though.....Yes, it's been a great day.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Took Sage home so she could go to a birthday party this morning....went by Church and got the flowers done...to Home Depot to pick up paint for mom...then Pet Smart had pond water tested...bought 8 Comets, fish food, food for the bird, cat and dog (have no idea what WE are having for supper)...since then I have helped Mom test her patio chairs.....seemed like a good job for an 80 degree afternoon...now going to catch a quick catnap before Church.

Sounds like you have had a good day Betty.....nice gift!

Liz,What other pond plants do you think I need ? And don't suppose you know anyone who would have them.....LOL!

Beautiful family and great pictures Debbie!...and yes, would love to know how you do that collage!

Have a good evening...If I don't get that nap I will nod of tonight.....not good since the new Pastor is supposed to be here tonight.

I think I have the stuff in the first picture... it is on the right side of the picture...It had gotten so hugh in the old pond that we divided it up and are starting over with a small piece.
Don't think I have any of the second one....what is that one??
Been having so much fun "fish watching" ! It is all I have any energy for today.

Morning....

You've done a wonderful job Trisha, you deserve to fish watch.

Liz, do you have fishies as well...must go find me some, the year before last mine survived but no signs of fish this year...but a do have a turtle, at least I think I do, haven't seen him since he was set in the pond...

Going back to yesterday, what a marvellous day..I felt more myself than I had in years..because of being Recreation Co-ordinator for the township I participated in all events, made all feel welcome and yesterday I played a bit of that role and truly enjoyed...

Just after coming home from town, the Canada Day parade was on..passed right on the corner where I live...
now don't go getting the thoughts of a city parade in your mind, this is simply a few towns people, not even floats but all from young to elder honoring Canada and the freedom we enjoy...

A group of veterans mostly in their 90's were brought to enjoy the festivities..all now living in Sunnybrook Hospital Care Center-apts where they get the best of care..so it was a long trip for these 90 year olds..2 hr drive...

Our young men..proud we should be!

They are stationed in Petawawa..quite a distance from here..along with them came a tank, gear, etc. all of which children to adults toured and received information on the day in the life of a soldier...so interesting

Our own Legion members..many of which were at the Legion preparing for the celebration....cooking, setting up etc.

The parade had ended and I was off to enjoy the afternoon just playing in the garden when I heard my name being called..it was Mike and Ann walking down to the Legion and before you knew it, off I went as well...

Watching all the soldier doing their official leave got me joking with them as they were getting ready to enjoy the festivities..told them I'd be at Petawawa Monday morning for training, with a bunch of good looking men like they, well, that was my next journey to a new career!

As we sat and enjoyed FREE hot dogs/hamburgers, pop, prizes were being given out for best in parade..think in total 4 bikes were given out and many more prizes...

At my table were many of the young soldiers..a few barely able to speak english...some stationed at Petawawa were from Quebec..one young soldier went on to tell me the many from Quebec treat soldiers terribly, don't support their endeavors in the war..lordy, it's not of their choosing..after all they are keeping us safe and a free nation...

They told me to forget the 7:00am visit on Monday, said push-ups were at 5:30 and I'd best be there...

They were all too cute..I re-enforced just how lucky we were to have young men such as they...

Music was wonderful and although they kept encouraging people to get up and dance no one did! As I was walking to the front to visit with other friends I could see a man dancing to the beat, so got him on the gravel dance floor lol and danced.....

Later they said the Indian Drum core in native dress could not make it because they were at the protect for Dump 41 but that another group had made the trip from Christian Island Reserve but their dancers were at the protest...

One of my greatest loves is dancing, I especially love step-dancing, rock'n'roll (quite a difference there isn't it) and some of the hip hop...

When we moved over to watch the pow-wow the leader asked if some would join them please in their dance of peace while they drummed and chanted...

Guess I was the only one to do so...had a great time, what the indian dancer would do, I would follow suit...now the only thing that bothers me is a gentleman from the newspaper was taking photo's...sure hope I don't end up on some local paper, I'd just die!!!!

But I was a good sport...

Around the pow wow were brought the veterans, either in wheelchairs or walkers..most having air for easier breathing..wearing their medals of bravery..all enjoying the day..one particular man helped onto the stage thanked everyone for remembering the courage of many, some here, those who passed on and those who died in battle and started to cry...he touched the hearts of many..

Here he was sitting watching the pow wow and I could see him taping his foot...

I went over and asked why a handsome young man as he wasn't dancing..he said he was unable to but I went on to tell him there was nothing wrong with my holding his hand, I dancing while he continued to tap his foot...music stopped...he asked if he could have a dance with me, much to the horror of the nurse that was with him...omg, he stood up, remember now we were on grass, much not level, but the darling man danced an entire dance with me...when it ended he said I had made his day the most special that he had enjoyed in many years...gave him a hug and a kiss...

I then went over to another man, using again, what's a good looking soldier like he sitting alone...lol..before you know it, he was telling me all about his life in the war, how he left Halifax Harbour landed in England...he was an engineer, worked on building a makeshift hospital for those returning from the battlefield..how he met his wife, how they had 1 child but could have no more, so they adopted 2..he went on to say he had thought the adoption out, that when he passed on, his wife would have the children by her side but she had gone on to the Lord before he...

Then he told me about a wonderful young soldier, sent to them because of shell shock, how he had healed during his visit and that they felt he was well enough to return to battle...

Prior to his leaving, most of the work crew/engineers/dr's/nr's had gone on a work day, how this young man had dressed in his Soldier garb..when they returned from the day, they found him lying on his bed and had shot himself..there were tears in this veterans eyes as he remembered this soldier...he kept saying he was not ready to return to the battlefield so rather than, he returned to his Lord!...

A woman veterans was also there, I spent time looking at her metals of bravery..she too told me how she had obtained each...

Their bus was now leaving and all saluted as it pulled away from the Legion...

Now I believe Ann/Mike took photo's of my dance with a hero and also with the pow-wow..will have to ask her to send them to me...

By now some of the crowds were leaving and the pipe band played...omg, things you don't remember..when I was around 8 or so I was enrolled in dancing..one of my dancing was doing the highland fling...so here I was, doing a dance to their music...

Was I drinking? NOPE..I certainly don't have to have alcohol to be outgoing an entertaining..lol..

SO dear friends, that is how I celebrated our Canada Day events... Canada Day isn't until Wednesday but the community did celebrate to the best of which volunteerism allowed, and did they have volunteeers...

I was asked to go to the dance last night but I had enjoyed about as much as I wanted to for the day so I played outside, set in my lily's, watered and early to bed...

It's overcast this morning, just waiting for 8am so I can go get the other tree from Home Depot before he pours.. so a quiet day for me today, well at least I think it is, one never knows...

Debbie, how was Ronnie Milsap concert???

Ohhh forgot to show you the mood I was in yesterday..at the market I purchased a set of toe/ankle bead set...

Betty, first of all, your posting had me teary. You my dear are an Angel to everyone. I know you made many smile and feel your friendship.

Last night was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be a singing concert
with Ronnie Milsap. It was more of a motavational speaker with some singing in it. But it was awesome.

I knew it was presented and hosted as a fund raiser for Camp Good Days & Special times. Gary Mervis started this camp when his daughter Teddi was diagnosed with a brain tumor. One night, before Teddi was going into surgery to find exactly what was going on, Gary was sent out of the hospital (parents not allowed to stay then) and when he got in the car...a song he had never heard was playing. Long story short... "I wouldn't have missed it for the world" by Ronnie Milsap. He lost his dear Teddi in 1982. Yesterday (27th) would have been Teddi's birthday, so this was a celebration for her...and the Camp.

I held it together for Graduation Friday night But being there...and hearing that song...I lost it. Thank heavens the lights were out and I had tissues.

Listening to that song and knowing the meaning for Gary & his daughter Teddi...and for all of us "cancer families"...as well as all the kids we have known and lost to cancer...and Shannon both...and the last two years with Mom.....I wouldn't have missed it for the World was sung....and I lost it!

We had a very good time thought, had dinner first with the in-laws, I had chicken parm. with baked potato, fresh baked bread and a huge salad.

Not sure Liz that we have fishies called 'mosquito fish' have to check that out..think there is a pet store in Barrie that sells figh, will drop in when I go to Michaels this week..enjoy your day at the market, always something to pick up that's neat and/or tasty..

Carol, what beauty, could remember walking through all those area when I visited..omg look at your roses, they must be between 6-8' high...so much blooming in your gardens...stunning to say the least..knowing how much time I've spent in mine I can't even imagine the hours or the energy you've put in yours..

Please keep posting photo's...love to see your garden art...not sure if you read up..yep, found me iron corners from gazebo's in the dump as well...I'm excited...ohhh looked again this morning at my wisteria..omg Carol it grows while watching it..did look around at Home Depot for something to hold it but didn't see anything that suited me...did see a large metal black frame and it came to mind..omg that big stained glass blue heron, it's still under the bed..should have been attached to something and set outside...

Debbie, another emotional day for you..lordy, let's hope you start having some fun filled laugh days...I'm sure it all brought great memories your you though....what a fitting memorial for Teddi...did they have cd's on sale Deb????

Was cloudy this a.m. - went to Home Depot got the other tree, 1/2 soil I think was in my car so delivered it home, out to the car wash to vaccum..lordy, put in money 3 different times..was it dirty..then I thought I might get some cleaning supplies and wipe down the dust that the road repair caused..I'm ashamed to drive it, new car looking so dirty but will have to see if rain stops...need to dig a hole for the tree as well..

Almost done my 'swap' quilt block for July, I'll get it shipped tomorrow so that I'm ahead of the game for a change..

Couldn't find my elastics so ran into variety store picked up a few pkgs. so that I might start rolling diapers..who cares if it rains..lol

Still no news on who dropped off $$$..I'm sure I'll get a call..thought it might have been mom but Aunt Muriel said she wasn't feeling well and didn't come to visit..she was going to spend the week at the cottage but they are calling for rain for the next 4 days, so not much fun to stay, imagine she and Jim are on their way back home...

Just came downstairs to put a load of wash on, best I not get too comfortable or I'll not get even the fun projects planned for today done...

Good Morning!

Wow, Debbie, Wonderful Graduation photos! So sweet the concert sounded very touching as well.
I am glad everything turned out beautiful. Speaking of, you have a beautiful family too.

Betty, Woohoo, thanks for Sharing Canada day, looks like the weather was incredible...

Trisha, How nice you you took the time to watch the new fish! Sounds and looks like pond is very tranquil, you did beautiful on it.

Liz, LOL...too funny! Nice pond!

Carol, So nice to see the room Secret Garden room...Ahh I could sit there all day.

Well, yesterday was ok, yanked out the pool and just started cleaning it up...whew that thing is heavy. Kids all packed up and went off to the beach, so nice they are doing things together. When they got back sat around and then went off to bowling! But while they went to the Beach Steve and I went for a nice bike ride and out to dinner...We all arrived back home about the same time.
Kids and I sat out on the deck when all of the sudden the tree next to us drop another huge limb, scared the crap out of us! We were thankful it just fell straght down, otherwise someone could have been hurt...You know the question does the forest make noise, when know one is around, the answer is YES! Anyway, I think I am going to talk to the new neighbor, it's time for that tree to come down, obviously it is dying or dead...This is the the 5th big limb to drop!

So, I didn't not finish the pool, so today I am going to get everyone to help and be done with it, LOL, the girls think they can do it in fifteen minutes, hardy har, har...This I gotta see, lol...

What an incredible day out there, woohoo turned off the air and opened all the windows and doors, just loving it...

I hope you are all enjoying your days as well.

Crissy, I hope your having a GOOD weekend.

see you later!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, omg you had better take it down! Is there a tree Dr. who can check it out to see if it must come down, perhaps it's just a few branches that need to be trimmed..you'd hate to fell a tree that could be saved..take decades if not more to grow another..I'm still sad about my tree...

Sounds as though your household is busy as usual..how nice to go bike riding with Steve..

Was raining all morning, June called about noon and wanted to know if I wanted to go to the movies to see the 'proposal'..tempted to say no but said yes..

Got there, omg what happened to 50cent movies...told them seniors rate and it was still $8.50..now you'll laugh..there were 3 adv. for goodies..one was a combo, popcorn, 2 pop and bag of candies..as I wanted pop corn thought 2 pops would be the thing for June and I...almost dropped dead when the young lady said that will be $18.87...excuse me???? fountain pop, no more than 2 pkgs. of popcorn used and a little bag of licorice...I had better remember that...

The show was fabulous...sun was shinning when we came out...everything is wet so I'll go back to some sewing, hot bath and early night...

Will be an odd week ..work Mon/Tue...off Wedn. work Thurs/Fri..... only good thing about that schedule is perm day for me on Wedn.

Lyndonville, NY

Betty, DH and I want to see the Proposal. Love Betty White and Sandra Bullock also. It just looks so cute in the previews.

I sat down to put my feet up for a bit.....and Huck jumped up there and layed down. So as not to distrub him...we napped together....for about 90 minutes! We soooo needed it.

Been raining here most of the day, but the sun is out now.

Seed, how much longer til you can pick up Skittles? That is such a perfect name for him.

Our town is getting ready for the big celebration this weekend. I am sure tomorrow the fire hydrants will be repainted and grass trimmed around them. I think they did most of the street crossing marks Friday. The big craft show is my favorite on Saturday. Parade starts at Noon and lasts about an hour or just a bit more. Its mostly firetrucks. Ohhhh the noise! LOL Then fireworks at 10:00....town gets packed.

Does anyone have big 4th of July plans?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bet you feel better Debbie having rested...thank goodness for Huck...you'll love the 'proposal'..so enjoyable..great laughs...I'd go back and see it again or rent it...just going to stay away from concession stand though..lol

I'm sure every little community as well as cities plan events for July 4th..maybe grander than ours but non the less enjoyable..where would we be without volunteers...

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Betty me and Dave went and saw Proposal yesterday (Saturday.) It's a good, good movie, we were still talking about it this evening before Dave left for work (graveyard this week yuk.) Dave kept crying throughout the movie LOL!! He cried more than I did! Love the stories of the veterans and pics of your yard and turtle, does he/she have a name?

Dave's family reunion is on the 4th at the largest lake in AR, about an hour from here. They have it every year, so we've gone both years we have lived here.

Judy I'd definitely check on that tree, it should not be dropping branches like that. While you're taking that one down I have about 30 that need to be cut down...

Trisha that pond turned out very pretty. I would definitely invest in mosquito eating fish/frogs/turtles/etc.

Debbie too bad it wasn't an actual concert, but with Ronnie Milsap I'm sure it was still worth going, and your money went to a good cause too! Nice pics of the family, good looking family you got there.

Love the yard Starzz, I would love to just sit out there and sew.

I had a great weekend. Since you all remember my flail Friday I'll continue with the weekend's happenings. Dave got up as soon as I went outside and he came outside. He didn't go back to bed until 11:00pm, when we both went to bed at the same time. Saturday morning we got up at 8:00, had the whole house clean by 10:00, and I got my plants that I wanted planted, planted by 11:30. I'm going to post pics tomorrow at work since it goes so much faster there. We spent the afternoon shopping at Kohls for Dave some shorts, it was 101 degrees with a heat index up to 113! You know I went out to water Saturday evening and none of my newly planted plants wilted, in fact, my Hot Lips budded, and today it bloomed! We ate dinner at home, then went out last night, as we always do when he's home on Saturday nights, Oh Good Lord it was 11:00 before we got there (remember this is a bar that doesn't close until 5am,) Dave's bebopping around to the continuous dance music and I'm sitting at the bar talking to my friend, Christy, and a few others who work there. I started yawning, again it's 11:00pm and I've been up all day, so Dave tells Christy to make me a drink that will wake me up, oh Lordy did she ever, I was 3 sheets to the wind before I ever finished the drink. I got hyper, gave Dave the car keys, and we danced and danced. Dennis the DJ played a 3 song set of Michael Jackson disco, oh I got hot, then I started feeling sick, I thought it was 1:30am and too early to leave, then looked at their atomic clock and it was 3:30am LOL!! I didn't get out of bed today, what I thought was noonish was actually 1:30pm!! aaaggghhhhh I never do that! Spent the day sewing on my embroidery, pigged out on all kinds of crap, watched NASCAR and a little NHRA, got a nice loud thunderstorm that brought rain, Yay, and went outside and took pics to show ya'll. Now I'm here and it's past my bedtime.

Calvert City, KY(Zone 7a)

Just heard from Mary...4004...she has a computer virus but will be back as soon as she can.

I'll be back too, but just got in from a week in Chicago so I am still trying to catch up.
Back later.

Victoria Harbour, ON

So nice to see that the night shift will be back..highlight of my morning was to wake up and read all your posts...

Shar, you'll have to share what you did in Chicago..Steve, Judy's hubby was so wonderful in being the guide for Liz and I and Judy as well..you can always visit a city but when you have someone who knows the history it's thrilling...one day I'll go back.. were the children with you or was it with friends you made the journey???

Sure do miss you Mary...

AnnMarie, is the move over, are you settling in and minding your health restrictions..do hope so..

Crissy, you'll be sleeping at work today for sure..what design are you embroidering? You will so enjoy getting together at the family reunion on the weekend...is it your side (think you said it was) or Dave's?

Didn't sleep a good part of the night..tell you why when I get to the office...

I finished my quilt block for July swap, trying to get ready so I can be at post office in Barrie at 8:30 so best get a move on...

Pacifica, CA

Hey, the wow/wow and the dancing..already practiced here on Saturday, can I come join in?

Crissy, I should have known that should I..you family is so far away..bet you'd love to be closer..lol..some days maybe...takes awhile to get used to a new camera..we can wait...

I gave a box of plants to niece Cindy here in the spring, she's all excited, they are starting to bloom....

Judy as for my not sleeping...I sleep with the television on, thought the unusual animals screems/cries were on t.v., got so loud and the shrill of the sound got me up looking outside..first I thought perhaps Missy got a bird and the bird was crying...then a different sound, almost thought it was dogs and then the most ungodly sound..got up and a few neighbors were out with flashlights..Derek next door said it was a racoon up in a tree, not sure what was after it..but I was so awake that I kept going outside to look for Missy, not knowing if she had battled with the racoon and might be injured or dead..so couldn't fall back asleep...I was up before the alarm, walked the yard, kept looking for Missy..it was almost the time I was leaving for work that she came walking in.

Judy, I did do another square, almost tempted to give up...keep following their dimensions but the block never ends up right size...not sure what's happening, and then the others well no one is saying they are having problems so maybe it's me...did talk to Janice though and she was having a bit of the same....maybe everyone is keeping quiet thinking they are the only one..lol...

NOW FOR SAD news...

Jim who works in the other office called this morning, as always asked how my weekend went...told him it was fantastic and blubbered about all the things I'd done, asked him about his? His stepdaughter 25 yrs. lost her life due to an overdose on Saturday night...

Wayne our other Toronto employee is at the cottage on holidays so guess Jim felt he should come in .. having problems getting through the day so hope he goes home...our Canada Day on Wednesday is when she will be buried...how very tragic...
