Best/ worse/ ? did you learn today? #111 visit with friends!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy, he's adorable..bet you are counting the days until you get him...
You must have prayed to St.Anthony to have found your camera...always works...kids sure do love the tubes...last year I purchased a brand new one for the boys..think for $25.00..man had passed on and he had just purchased it for his grandchildren...

I love daisies Judy..each time I see a little rose coming out I think of you and Shar...lucky you to be playing in the garden..

I was up early, can't believe it's 9am and I've done so many things..lol..

Got my name for the 'junk' swap...Barb's my pal..I had already gone through the list of likes/dislikes for each knowing what junk (not really) that I had sitting at the house for almost each of the participants..was thrilled this morning that my pal was Barb...found me a box, loaded it up and it is in the mail already..didn't realize until last week that they open at 8:30am so posted it before work...

Last night on my way home, I noticed someone had metal corners from a gazebo that must have fallen, told myself if they were there in the morning I'd pick them up..again my poor Aveo, ladden down with metal..luckily Bernie only lives about 10 minutes from where I picked it up, drove into his yard and dropped them off..just called to say they were mine, already SIL said by noon if no one owned up to them she'd be keeping them for her garden..so lucky I called..lol

So between the Post Office and Work I had 20 minutes to spare..saw the little garden center where I purchased some shrubs this past week was open, barely a plant left...did find 6 perrenials for .49 though...now's the time to be on the lookout...

They had called for a glorious weekend but now 80% rain for Sunday..let's hope it's during the night or late evening...

Have a story to tell you about my visit to the Post Office here in Barrie this morning...urggggggg....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Debbie, you just enjoy the day remembering how proud your mom would be today...graduations bring memories back for sure and emotions are always just under the skin and it's hard...but think of that lovely daughter of yours and all she's gone through to get where she is...make it yours and her 'sunshine day' so that later in years she'll have great memories!

Glenview, IL

Debbie, send you Giant Armwraps!

Wow, Betty, you are on a roll today, geesh just having my second cup of coffee..lol it's only 8:33 here and already contemplating what I should be doing, cleaning off the deck sure gave me a nice boost of energy, so now I need to get into second gear..lol

Steve going to Cottage this weekend, so better pack him up first...

OMG and right now it's just a glorious day weather wise!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Judy I can just see from being there how pretty that back gazebo deck area is...

Yep, on a roll..even going to go south 15 minute ride to the new nursery I found before going home...and...dear mom just called, she's at the cottage, wants me to go to Zellers this afternoon and pick up a H20 steamer vac for her..said she can't find it anywhere, told me she'd drive over at some point on the weekend and pick it up..then told me she wasn't feeling the best..etc.etc. so guess she wants me to volunteer going to her cottage and dropping it off..drats/more drats..what shall I do? lol

Glenview, IL

LOL, Betty, sounds like mom is in the Tom Sawyer mode!
heheh, be careful, she'll want to see how the thing cleans right away, rest assure you know who is going to end up trying it out...
lol, well a good visit might be in order too.
Yikes, mil called so Steves got to go there first and fix her potty, he's not too happy 'bout that...

Decided i better get energized first so making eggsalad for breakfast, yummy.

Ohhh, big news, got new neighbor!! Met him yesterday, young guy...like really young, wondering where he got the money for that house!!
LOL, yep I am nosey like that... Anyhow, glad someone bought the place, they were there yesterday doing some yard work, thank goodness grass was really tall and playing havoc on Steve's allergies...Poor guy also had some water leakage so had to clean that up!
Said he was fixing things, I was suprised as that house is only what 3 years old...Anyway i see he's there again today, not sure when he will be moving in, bummer no wife yet, lol said he was working on that...

OMG, got the funniest story to tell about the General! LOL Betty and Liz, sure wish you could have seen this nut nutcase, we were laughing so hard, Thought i'd fall on the floor!

be back to tell you the tale, still ROFLOL on that one!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hurrah for the new neighbor Judy...wouldn't worry about where they get the $$$, seems the young ones are the ones willing to take a chance and purchase these mega priced houses...went back Judy to look at Skittles, just too cute..what is their life span?

It's not the steam vac that scares me it's that she continues to say her pond equipment is sitting waiting to be put in..lol..of course I've been 3 times to help and Jim keeps saying 'just visit - you work too hard, I'll do it for her' yep..he never stops, always go/go/go have no clue how he could work in putting in a pond...

Know if she gets me there I'm done for..lol

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Morning everyone!! Barb I am so glad to hear about Norm!!!! Yay!!!!

Well I think Dave took a ride on the stupid train and forgot to get off. Every time I dozed off last night he'd come in the bedroom making noise, which would get Tiga going and she would climb on me all purring and cute, at 5:30am I finally got mad and kicked them both out so Dave went to the gym and Tiga laid on the bed. At 6:30 I got up and started getting ready, Dave got back from the gym, I knocked a contact out with my towel so I was frantically looking for it as I was running late from the get-go, Dave came in the bathroom and stood right in the way, moved him out, he came back in with one of his co-workers business cards for a Handyman/Lawn Care business, asking me if I would hand them out, I asked him, "Why would I hand out someone's Handyman/Lawn Care business cards when you have the same business?" He didn't have an answer, found my contact, cleaned it but couldn't get it back in, now I'm really running late, he's still in the way, now Tiga's in there too spreading her fur all around and getting on my contact as I was trying to put it in, got it in but it was backwards, took it out, fixed it and couldn't get it back in, finally got it, trying to straighten my hair, OMG!!! Wanted to take the day off but that would put Jeff here by himself and I won't do that, Ms. Cheerful is in a bad mood, I'm in a bad mood, Jeff seems to be in a bad mood, and that's enough of my ranting.

AR is Arkansas, AZ is Arizona and it's confusing. There's several states that are like that, Alaska is AK, Alabama is AL, there are more just can't think of them right now. One thing is for sure, you can tell which states became states before others did!

Judy I Love those birds!!!

We're going to be getting ready for Dave's Uncle Roy to fly in on Tuesday I guess he's staying with us again, I just hope he turns up his hearing aid, I hate yelling at the top of my lungs like that.

Glenview, IL

OH Crissy, sounds like your off to a heck of start! Well, try to have a better day, then morning...Grab a cup of coffee and perhaps a cinnomon roll...

Thanks on the bird, they are really Pretty, Betty, they are suppose to live up to 30ish years! Very social and pretty smart, we aim to teach him some tricks and words...The people were concerned about him having someone to play with, LOL, Julia looked him right in the eye, big smile on her face and said No problem there, someone is always home...

LOL, I hear ya on the hearing aid thing, what good are they if they arn't used properly! MIL has one and refuses to use the thing, OMG, how dumb...when she does use it, wow what a difference in her whole personality and she actually speaks in a lower tone too, Told Steve he should "make" her wear it!

OMG, gotta run to pick up Jacob...at Football camp, which he loves!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Crissy, sweetie, I'm so laughing, never heard about the 'stupid train' going to us that one for sure..told the girls in the office and we were all giggling..all know someone still riding it..

Good luck with uncle Roy..lol..my dad always said my sister and I mumbled when we spoke to him..just wouldn't admit he had a hearing problem...

Judy your house is a house of action, am sure Skittles will not be in need of company...

Glenview, IL

For sure Betty, and Skittles will be worn out from everyone coming to hold him, he is sure to be spoilt!

Crissy, yep had to giggle about the Stupid train too, lol Steve fell alseep on a train, you know just closed his eyes for a second, next thing he new he was in Fox Lake which is the end of the line...It was the last train too, had to take a cab home! now that was an expensive nap.

Well, now these boys...are just home to snag some food and rest for a bit, then off to the pool for the afternoon...LOL, I still haven't even started a project, doh picked up another book...promising my self only read the first chapter and get to work.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You'll not read the first chapter you just know if you start you'll read from start to finish...

ok, few minutes to tell you my story..

Remember (some of you won't) my brother Bernie's wife took off with my husbands brother (who also was married to my cousin, more like my sister, almost raised together) well I'm in the lineup just being served, when I just glanced over and she was in the line-up, had to put the mailing tags on the box so moved to another counter to fill in info, turned around and she had left...

NOT that I wanted to gab to her, no/no/no!

Glenview, IL

didn't even say hello? Yikes, oh well...

So here is my funny story.

I was standing in the kitchen at the counter, facing the windows. So going about my business look up to see the General parking his minivan right in front of my house, again!
For all of you who don't know, the General, as we've named him is our neighbor directly across the street. He is and his wife are a billion years old who "never" do any wrong. They are the nastiest, meanest people in the neighborhood. Always calling the police or the village for everything. Wouldn't doubt if they called on my wildflowers being weeds...Anyway, they hate us because, well we always have company. Our company parks in front of our house, which he hates because he decided he can't get out of his parking spot! He has a 4 car driveway...So the man is a nurotic about people who park in front of our house, doesn't matter who just that they park there...Well, he has gone so far as to knock on our door and DEMAND that we move our vehicles. He has yelled and sworn at people to not park there, they can't and he will call the cops, and he has too, they have to come because it's a call, but nothing they can do because It's a street and peoples can only park on our side...parking is ligit in front of our house, so why would our company park anywhere else, right?
So whenever he has the chance to park in front of my house he does...clearly he thinks it upsets us, but we just laugh about it, I mean what else is there to do? So this particular day, going about my business, I see him parking, no big deal, I watch as his pulls up, see's me watching, stares at me for a couple of seconds, the backs up, pulls up again to settle smack dab in the middle, so now no one else can park there too, lol I am watching, shrugged as I giggle at the the site. He gets out, hobbles around the front of the car, looks at the curb then at his car, hobbles all the way back around looks at the back of the car. lol, I can see from where I was standing he was a foot awy from the curb, so people have now swerve around him, so stading watching and giggling. Suddenly he stands facing me, looks directly at me and spreads his arms out and the looks at the back of his vehicle, then looks to my neighbors driveway, checks a gain and then drops his arms...LOLOL, I was laughing so hard clapping my hands that he parked perfectly! What a great job. Geesh never a dull moment with that guy. So I go to leave and have to manuver out as he was way into the street, I was still laughing at him because, i am sure he thinks I am going to come say something to him, which we never do, just laugh. So off course I got to tell the family of my afternoon giggle, they laughed too, Julia shared the story and now when Anthony and she park in front they have taken to the arm measuring the spot, from the front of there car to my spot! LOL, so i don't have to manuver!!...Heheh, they are in hopes that he see them one time...
Scarey thing is this guy drives a school bus, yikes would hate to see him park that thing. But he did park it in front of our house more than once, It was the one and only time we ever called the village on a complaint, and Only because he would leave it running for 1/2 hour.
Unattended, which is not only dangerous but against the law and for the fact that the fumes from the bus gas literally make me so sick that i could end up in the hospital from them...
Well any way that was my funny tale of the nutty neighbor, and my rant too, lol glad to be rid of that, hope you got a chuckle too!

Victoria Harbour, ON

He is comical Judy..know when I was there he kept half looking out the window eyeing everything up..think he wondered what a Canadian was doing parking on his side of the world..too funny..best you just leaving him at his antics, will frustrate him all the more...remember you being so distraught at having to rid yourself of all the wildflowers you had collected, him calling them weeds, shaking my head here...well let's hope this new neighbor will be friendly....oh...1/2 hr. left and homeward bound, well maybe not homeward bound, got to go try and find that nursery again..just looked at the perrenials I purchased this morning that are in the car with sun beaming on them..looks like they are ok...

Just can't wait!!!

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Oh Judy that is hilarious.

Betty I want to get off work early too ;)

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

OK! I got home from work and Dave's in bed. I sat on the bed, not happy he's getting some sleep and I didn't because of him, he said, "I'm trying to sleep, I just laid down." Oh I am not happy and I think I'm going to leave for a bit. I said, "You keep me up almost all night, I had to work all day, you had all day to sleep but NOOOO you wait until I get home THEN you decide to go to sleep and I have to be quiet now, and you call this seeing me???? And you weren't quiet all night??? You're still riding that Stupid Train and you seriously need to get off of it, and if you think there's a pity party here, you are mistaken." So I changed shoes and fed Tiga, holding the new can of food that was noisy to open (oops) and held it right over her head and she started meowing really loud. He can stick it where the sun don't shine! Oh I'm mad, he told me the other day, ya'll might remember me saying this, that he would rather work graveyard because he can see me in the afternoons. Yea, this is seeing me, in which eyeball??

Victoria Harbour, ON

You Crissy are just a spitball, full of fire..you always have me laughing..

Don't know why a storm is rolling through because it's suppose to be sunshine tomorrow and no call for rain other than Sunday..someone made an error.. can't trust those weathermen...

Did drop off to the nursery before heading home...
Bought 2 of these perrenials..she said they can reach as high as 8'..their would be a little over 6'

Victoria Harbour, ON

They don't come cheap...$11.98 for a plant no more than about 1' high...

Name: Persicaria polymorpha bette known as Fleece Flower

They also had red astilbe so one had to come home with me as well...

Left the nursery by now it's 4pm..go to Zellers to pick up mom's vacuum, back on the 400 and it's bumper to bumper....I was not a happy camper....

Took a photo inside the nursery..not as well organized at the Garden Gallery but prices are much better

Saw a project that interested me, only because I have 6 spindles just waiting to become something..

Have wood dragging around might make a sign similar to this for my DG friendship garden..

Did groceries before coming home, arrived and no sooner did I get the car unpacked Cathy arrived with a gift....kept saying 'to you something' 'am sure you'll be pleased' thought for sure it might be strawberries but not...

Here was my gift...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ah, here's a better photo..she placed it on her bike seat... so now I'm the keeper of a turtle, she thought it would enjoy my pond..set it on a rock, turned around and it was gone..knowing nothing about turtles, how long can they stay under water? are they territorial as will he try and go back to where she found him...not the middle of the road of course but where he was coming from? Should I find something to feed him? drats..best I go in search of information before I starve him..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Got my trees/shrubs/plants all planted, thought with rain coming it would do them good..I had also decided to go looking in the hollow bush behind my property for a few growing trees, took a look and thought, nope, full of poisin ivy, best I stick to buying them..a lot healthier...

I had a few tea roses planted..the rose is almost as large as the plant...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Each night now you can see some plants starting to open..not the greatest color yet but they are teasing me with thoughts of what is to come..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Not sure I'll be back downstairs so think I'll do my nightly post now..it's just after 8, corn on the cob it is, bath and early to bed..big day again tomorrow...

Best...everyone was on a roll today, happy, singing just enjoying the day

Worse...getting stuck in bumper to bumper traffic

What did I learn today...while in traffic I was listening to a local talk station..was a story about LeeMarvin (CatBallou), some of you may be much too young to know him...

Someone had questioned why a movie star was in Arlington Cemetery??? didn't feel he should be there...as it happens a woman overhead this individual make the statement and told this story...

Lee was on Johnny Carson show years ago and Johnny asked him about being in the war..Lee made light of the fact that he was in the war let alone getting the star for bravery..he had been shot and as he talked to Johnny he said that his commander was much braver than he, that his commander had several times stood while bullets were flying calling out to his men in order to save their lives...Lee said he remained friends with his commander and felt he was one of the bravest men he had ever known..had nothing but the highest praise...

His captain was also highly decorated and received the star for bravery...he was Captain Kangaroo...any of you know him????

I found the 1/2 hour talk show so informative..

We in Canada had a children's entertainer who had a show for I think over 30 years on t.v.....he was called Mr. Dressup...here he also was in the war, highly decorated and had taken more than 25 lives..once he returned home after the war he became a Minister, vowed never to take up arms and did children's shows for the rest of his life..always wore long sleeve shirts they said so you couldn't see all the tatoos...amazing...who would have thunk this mild mannered man was a war hero...

Sooo that was what I did learn...

Good Lord willing we'll gab tomorrow
night/night

Marilyn Glen st. Mar, FL(Zone 9a)

I remember Lee Marvin,,,rough looking face,,,gruffy voice, and he sang one time that I heard,,,he wasn't a bad singer either. Played in several war movies too. Remember Audie Murphy? Most decorated war hero in America.. yes, Capt. Kangaroo,,,remember him too, he also wore long sleeves to hide tattoos. and he made famous the Kangaroo boots men wore years and years ago..my grandpa would not wear anything else.
aahhhh,,,,days gone by,,,memories,,,,how they fill the pages of my mind,,,,,memories...
Good night ladies,,,,sweet dreams to all.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Remember all of those guys, yes, even got Mr. Dressup too!!

Didn't realize what I was getting myself into with this yard project....just when I think it is about finished........mom has decided she will have a corner bed like the one i have put in to put some of the Iris that have to be moved.....doesn't realize this is brick soil under all that lava rock...has to be raked off, plastic removed, clay dug up, lots of topsoil and compost turned into it, edging placed....then we can think about digging and moving plants from the old bed......And, guess who gets to do most all of the work???? Can't let her...she is barely able to walk as it is from trying to help me th past few days.

But what a joy, we moved the bird bath today so as I sit here typing I can see the Chickadee family having quite a splash!! I do love the birds.

This is the latest photo of the little Puddle area....

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Got most of the little plantings set out in the new bed....as per this weeks question on DG, don't know if I have the patience required....I want them all grown NOW!! Will not look so out of kilter once I get the Iris, Sage and Honeysuckle out of the east end of the bed and have everything in basically the same proportions.

Thumbnail by zhinusmom
Victoria Harbour, ON

Marilynn, guess we're in the same era...yep, my favorite was Audie Murphy..actually when I took the 4 grandsons to Arlington Cemetery we looked him up, he's very close to the Kennedy's..didn't realize the others were hero's and burried there as well...not too old to learn..

OhhhTrisha, you are working yourself ragged even with help from Laura/Sage and your mom..it's coming along so beautifully...once the plants have matured what a sight it will be...wish could send plants across the border to you but no can do...think they'd take back their passport..can't have that..

I can just see the satisfaction on your face as you sit there and look at the pretty view...

I feel much the same when I walk my gardens...still feel sad about that big shade tree..left an area about 6' x 8' of nothing..branches had filled in that area...but you know me..it's pretty well all filled with plants/shrubs and trees but just no shade ..oh well, will give me something to do, watch the trees grow...not sure how many years it takes for a tree to grow big enough for shad but guess I'll find out...

Sun is beaming through the window here, nice to see on a Saturday morning...leaving the house at 7:30am..want to be home around noon and want to see the parade that passes at the corner..small time parade in a small town setting, done for Canada Day, b.b. q.'s, entertainment etc.
I'll just watch as they go by...my family have gone to the cottage for the weekend so won't be seeing any of them..my plan..not to do much..do you believe me..lol

oooh excited, am hoping the lily lady is there so I can purchase a few...my plan is to purchase 6 of them...you all have me hooked on them..non of which I purchased last year are out yet....late blooming here I guess....

Be back later to sow you my 'treasures

Lyndonville, NY

Which one is the good looking young man? Shane is with Shannon in the first collage....and in the back row in the second. The two "men" on the ends...Joe with black hair is married to Jeanna.....and Andy in red shirt on other end is married to Carrie.

Yes, I think DH is a keeper...most days! LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Good for you..there is also a municipal 'art tour' here in the community..about 30 homes, some with stained glass, others watercolors, every type of art imaginable..I had thought of going but might wait until tomorrow to see if it rains, then, it would occupy part of my day...

Look for some interesting ideas for us Debbie...

Victoria Harbour, ON

Have to go back and look Debbie, put a name to the faces...regardless who is who, all are good looking...

the Lilly's I purchased are not in bloom and won't be until late July/early august..very fragrant she says..bought 6..will have to get their names for those of you who love them...
