Cool rock, Bill!
Father Knows Best - Happy Fathers' Day! Coffee Break # 14
OOOHH!!! I like that rock.
This morning we had an earthquake that registered 2.7 on the Richter scale. I heard a looong, low rumble. Kinda like thunder, but it lasted longer. You know how you can feel thunder - it felt like that. There weren't any thunderclouds around, so then I thought that there was an explosion at the chemical plant a couple miles away or across the river. But, turns out it was an earthquake. Mom said - What was that? I feel so bad for her - she had 2 molars pulled yesterday. Her poor jaw is really swollen. It looks like somebody punched her . It is bruising, too.
Cool rock, Bill.
Really Jan? how far away was it felt and where was it centered?
Hope you mom is feeling better soon.
Just found out last night my mom was admitted to the hospital out in CO. Her sugar and blood pressure were off the charts and she was really confused. Tests show she had a heart attack but they don't know when. Can't do anything for her heart right now until they get the sugar and blood pressure under control. So they have her on nitroglycerin and blood thinners. Waiting to here more news from my sis.
jen - sorry to here about you mother, hope she feels better soon - my father has had the same problems with sugar and blood pressure.
jan i hope the swelling goes down for your mom.
are you sure that earthquake was not the result of water seeping into a fault line?
Oh, Jen, I'm sorry. It's scary and sad when parents seem to suddenly get older, have health problems, etc., and I speak from experience.
Sorry to hear that, Jen. Best of luck!
Cool rock, Bill.
Best of luck to your Mom, Jen. My blood sugar can play games--right now it's the neuropathy. When I thought sugar too high a couple weeks ago, it was the meter needing new batteries, which made me fell better.
Karl Malden(97) passed away today. He was married 70 years, longest marriage in Hollywood.

Yes, I heard. Lots of celebrity deaths recently. Very good actor.
Oh, Jen, let us know more about your mom when you get some news. Will be praying.
Maybe it WAS water seeping in the fault line. :) Or maybe it was because my youngest left for the Houston area today. He starts a new job on Monday. The GF was promoted so he is following. We're thankful that the company he works for has its headquarters there, so he can transfer and not lose any vacation time or benefits. They are flying back though on the 10th cuz his brother from OR. is coming in with his family and it's been 2 years since all four boys were together. The earthquake was mostly felt in Salem and Cumberland Counties. Not sure where the epicenter was.
Congrats to him, Jan! Never heard of water on a fault causing a quake! Many faults are under water.
That rock looks perfect in that setting, Bill. Really sorry to hear about both your Moms, Jen & Jan----keep us informed.
Just noticed one of the DG birthdays today is 'mypalmparadise'. Hmmm - lonely guy?
HAPPY CANADA DAY all my dear Canuck friends from the NE!!!!
{{{flowrjen}}} hope your mom's ok.
wha that is a WAY COOL rock. I was mucking about with rocks today working on a path (after working on the pee fence) but they were little smoothie rocks. That one looks big and gothic.
Thanks for the good thoughts for mom. I'm amazed it doesn't hurt her all that much. I'll be headed to Atlanta for a few days for a nephew's wedding, but I'll let you how she's doing when I get home.
We were thrilled that DS was able to get a job that fast, especially in this day. He was planning of staying here until he did. When he went down on a house-hunting trip, he interviewed there and apparently it went well. However, he has worked nights for years, it will be an adjustment to working days.
I thought wha was teasing about the water and the fault line. We had one about 23 yrs ago, as well. Not as BIG as this one. :)
Bill,
Your rock rocks! It loks like a sculpture.
Jen & Jan, good thoughts for your Moms.
Happy belated Canada Day to our great neighbors to the north.
nice rock!!
hope all is well with the moms Jen & Jan
i was teasing about the water causing the quake - although with the downpour's we are having here will test that theory
very happy with that rock - the detail it has in person is awesome - i spotted a few others on my hike yesterday although nothing as carved up at this one - and i came home with two more ticks - a big one and small deer tick - both were still walking around so no harm - i must be up to 20 ticks this year
I found out the earthquake epicenter was in DE.
Safe trip Jan. Glad for your son. My friend lives north of Houston and LOVES it.
Bill ever consider spraying your yard for ticks?
Update on my mom they stabilized her enough to do an angioplasty and all the scans necessary. Found she had had 2 heart attacks, 1 last year and 1 a month ago. 1 artery is so blocked they couldn't do anything about it. They put a stent in. Her kidneys have damage from all the problems she's been having and now has to go for dialysis once a month. Also found she had advanced alzheimer's. Doctor says she won't get any better. So my sis is currently looking for a nursing home for her because she'll need constant care.
I'm so sorry to hear that Jen. ((((((Jen))))))
Sorry to hear that, Jen. Good luck.
How do you spray for ticks and not kill good bugs?
Oh, ((((Jen)))). That's sad.
sorry to hear about your mom jen - hope you and your family are able to get her the attention she needs
as for the ticks i'd have to hire a crop duster - they came from walking in the wood looking for rocks :) I do have them here - as long as you get them off before 24 hours you'll be ok
How sad, Jen. Good luck in your search.
went for a second opinion on my knee today - first doc said it was arthritic and i would need it replaced down the road - tried to tell him something gave on it spiking a ball playing volleyball and it was not there before - he would not listen - never showed me the mri even though i asked to see them - just gave me a copy - would not provide the exerices, said i had to go to the affiliated physical therapist office - the place was like a fast food ortho clinic
went to the another doc that did micro fracture surgery on me and he looked at the same x-rays and mri results - said i still have good separation of the joints - no signs of arthritis - and thought i might have a slight cartilage tear and that he needed to look at the mri on a higher resolution screen to be sure - then gave me some exercises to strengthen the knee and make sure the knee cap stays straight and doesn't irritate the area i have pain.
now how do you go back to the first doc and get your money back for a wrong diagnosis - not to mention being an horses arse - my primary care doc will hear about this
Not surprised, Bill. So many of these places are mills now. They have to see tons of patients because the reimbursements are getting smaller and smaller. Of course, that has nothing to do with the misdiagnosis.
By the way, you have the right to the actual mri films. I always get them. I'm going back to my surgeon with them soon. Hopefully just a shot will help.
Good luck to him, Deb! How is he doing? And you?
Oh, how nice, Deb---I cried when my son moved to Boston----cried harder when he moved back in with us! Sorry about your Mom, Jen---and Bill, I sympathize with you---went to the surgeon who pinned my hip when I had knee pain---he's like--oh, well, it will collapse, then I'll replace it! I went to a chiropractor who fixed all my pain!
Only talked briefly, he drove Wed morning, arrived around 1PM, and spent the rest of the day unloading the truck. He sounds excited.
I'm good, I know where he lives and I know how to get there!!
I'm sure I'll worry, but I'm sure we'll be fine.
-I cried when my son moved to Boston----cried harder when he moved back in with us!
I did that to my mother. Once these guys move out I am remodeling and knocking out their rooms. Only another 5 - 8 years ....
sorry to hear that Jen.... hugs to you
Good luck Jen!
3 daughters here: they live in Ohio, MN & eastern WA. The last one is tough because of the time difference. e-mail helped the last 2 yrs.
It's hard on the other end too, knowing that parents get older and may need help.
I'm really glad she's out with my oldest sister, she can handle things very well.
That's good. I'm the closest one to home and it's a 13 hr. drive!
I'm the farthest away and its a 20 minute drive!
You may be doing a lot of eldercare, David.
