Can't believe that Stan Musiel is 88. Glad that I saw him play.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Incredible hitter.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well I know my photo stinks... but the black blob in the center of my picture ... in front of the shed is a black bear.... say good bye to the bird feeders.... I grew up in the city... can't handle this!!!!

Oh no!!! Keep an eye on the dogs too.

What do you do when a swim diaper gets accidently washed? I have those gel things all over my clothes and in the washer. They're like squid eggs.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

wow jen - we had a bear sighting a couple days ago where i go kayaking, only a couple miles away - first thing i thought of was the feeders - i say get them higher

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Holy Crap Allison!!!!!!!!!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh boy! Too close for comfort, Allison. I would ditch the feeders entirely for a while. No need to invite him/her back.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

YIKES Allison!!!

I have no idea what to do, Jen about that dilemma. But, I am busting a gut picturing it. (sorry)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

oohhh Jen... yuck!!!

the feeders are 6 foot + now.... but they are coming in for a while

I am finally calm.... and can you imagine me sitting on the deck steps with 3 dogs out with me... me seeing it and they did not yet... trying to keep calm and get them all in the house without causing alarm

once one starts barking the others will follow... but luckily I got them all in quick... I called the police to see if they wanted to track it... and they were already dispatched before I called... there are so many kids that play up in those woods... not good

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

I would stay inside and turn the AC on. But I have a somewhat relative who lives in Morris County. They all keep bullhorns on hand to (1) scare the bear and (2) alert all the neighbors.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

What's their message to the bear? And what's a somewhat relative, Weeze??

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

OK, Victor, their message to the bear is "this is really loud but not quite as loud as a bullet." A somewhat relative is the neice of a boyfriend..Jack's neice:)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

pretty smart maybe we should start a trend... this is my first time seeing one in 4 years... my guess is calling off the bear hunt ... they are getting more populated

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I have a few somewhat relatives that are louder (and more annoying) than a bullet.

Jersey Shore, NJ(Zone 7a)

lol...my sympathies

Good to "see" you Louise, how ya been?

EEEEEEK onewish. Rattle those pots and pans. When I lived in the arctic it was very bearish; black, brown, grizzly and polar

I was standing in the airport of Seattle, they had a polar in a glass case. I just remember looking up up and up. He was huge!! I hope they outlive us. So magnificent.

One of my friends years ago was/probably still is a habitat biologist. He went in the cage in the middle of polar bear migration through Churchill. The pics are awesome. Polar bears hunt man for food. One of the only animals that do so without being blooded. (Lions and tigers will hunt us once they have eaten us but don't normally prey on peoples) When I lived in the arctic, I worked for both the federal and territorial (equivalent to state) government and whoo hoo did the polar bears ever chomp alot of peoples. Sorry stupid peoples that you did a stupid people trek to the north pole without understanding that polar bears rule. So sorry you got eaten.

Thomaston, CT

There was a bear in the downtown section of the city to the north of us yesterday---the news said bears are moving right now, finding their own territory---hope he keeps moving for you, Allison. Polar bears are pretty, but not up close! Just read a disturbing article in the U. of N. Hampshire magazine---doctor from Hitchcock is doing a cluster study of ALS around the lakes in that state---Mascoma has 25x more ALS than expected----we were there every summer---our son swam in that lake his whole childhood. Researchers are looking at blue-green algae as the culprit. Article also said it can cause Parkinson's & Alzheimers. My DH's sister had both & lived on Mascoma most of her adult life.

Wow - that is scary, Robin.

I'll start a new thread.
