Father Knows Best - Happy Fathers' Day! Coffee Break # 14

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

No disrespect intended to either of these two or to Ed McMahon

But I'm tired of this being covered like a president was just assassinated. There is Iran, Korea, the economy, health care, the environment, not to mention Iraq & Afganistan to cover too.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

ok here is a seed question.... every year I intend to start flowering kale for fall... and always forget... am i too late AGAIN to start them?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

I completely agree, Dave, but that's the pathetic nature of the media these days. More importantly, and more sadly, there's more interest in that nonsense by the public than in important stuff. It's not just when people die, but every day. Octomom, Paris Hilton, American Idol, Jen vs. Angelina, etc. Hate to say it, but most Americans are idiots. You see it in every poll and survey about real issues. They don't know anything.

We are superficial & gossipy.Well the cheating Gov. must be very relieved
I got one of those pre-posting warnings on my last post. I must have hit several trigger words in my post. I assumed (correctly) I that it wouldn't be seen as controversial.

Thomaston, CT

Now those of us who watch the Mets get beaten 9-1......LOL! Allison, I've no idea when fl. kale should be planted.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Wow - what happens with a philandering prez?

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Returning to the all-important 'everything MJ' subject, it seems that I am the only one who did not warn him about his drug use.

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

Even Mozart would have been nothing (or, I guess, nichts,) without J.S. Bach. Music (even pop music) always builds and develops on what came before. Without the Beatles there would have been no Michael Jackson. Without Chuck Berry, there wouldn't have been The Beatles. I'm not sure where Ed McMahon comes in in this lecture.

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Victor, You could have saved him!

Ed would have introduced all of them.

I am surprised at some of the names used in comparison with MJ. Great entertainer & dancer. But Mozart?
I watched some report state that he will be the last superstar. I think that is a silly thing to say.

And now Billy Mays! Two pitchmen in one week.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Just noticed a thread titled, 'Show us your clumps'. I was relieved that it was on the Daylily forum and not the health one.

Thomaston, CT

LOL---glad I wasn't on that Tampa plane---would have freaked with all the baggage falling! Was just out in the yard & a few of my neighbor's bulldogs came to visit. Hard to get all 3 into a photo---they just jumped & wiggled the whole time.

Not to late for flowering kale onewish in half day sun. They bolt on me in full sun although they look very prettiful if you bonzai them into a Christmasy tree shape when they bolt. Well pack to the patio and weatherproofing projects. Who KNEW power blasting could be way too much fun???? The Miss Kym is very smelly right now

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thanks Dnut!!... I can't plant them in the ground here though... containers only... the critters eat them every time they are in the ground... on my deck it's safer!!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well then onewish your kale will be fabby for sure!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

lets hope... I have a ton of seed

LOL

I usually stick them in large containers in the fall so I can display them right as they look great (purchased ones)... and keep the liquid fence on them constantly

ever grow the small ones with long stems?... I have two packs of those a white & pink

Thomaston, CT

Oooh---Miss Kim is pretty!

Milton, MA(Zone 6a)

I'd like to try those myself, Allison, the bouquets of long-stemmed kale. Not quite sure what to do, though. Maybe next year.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

there is an actual full page of directions on sowing and how to grow them... going to try anyway

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I have a packet of seeds I need to plant too...where's this article if you would kindly tell please??

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I am so out of it today, I can't get moving. I need a nap or caffeine.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me too. And I slept late. Yucky, humid day does not help.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

I know, I was going to go to my bro's and go swimming but I don't even feel like driving anywhere.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

Southern, CT(Zone 6a)

Bill, That must be one heck of a rock! I hope, for your sake that it is not a back seat driver.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

yes it is Dave - it is like and iron rock - heavier than granite the same size - it is in a small steam bed and has intricate worn water gorges all over it. they are very common here, i already have a few although this one will be right up there with the vertebrae rock i posted on the rock wall thread for interest.

Thomaston, CT

Sounds way cool! When I was up to the farm the other day, my son's FIL came over with a small rock he thinks is a meteroite---found it on the farm---very black, smooth, dense---but I have no idea what one looks like!

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

here is a picture of my new rock!

i have some closer pictures here;
