My hydrangea is in filtered shade so I am not sure what is wrong. It apparently doesn't effect the blooming as there are new heads starting to open just short. Hummm, maybe like me--short firm and well, never mind!!! LOL Finally researching paid off and I found that you can use 10-10-10 fertilizer on them so guess I will switch to that and see if it makes a difference.

Have decided I am having the gardenias across the front of the house dug out and replaced with the varigated blue lace caps--name escapes me. This blooming every other year is for the birds as far as I am concerned--besides I need a nice color there. Now just how much trouble will the HOA give me on this one? They give new meaning to the Excedrin ads!!!!!

Trisha, oh please, please I will send you all the hot you want in return for some rain and cold!!! Check you mail box!! LOL

i want to go shopping to Jaye. Wait for me.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Marion, my mom would have a cow if she knew you were doing that. She loves gardenias and has the worst time with hers. But you can't tell her what she is doing wrong with it. It looks awful. I know it's not getting enough sun. So I just give up. I have my flowers and she has hers. My daughters driveway is lined with them and is a solid white. Oh they are beautiful.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Cindy I wish she had these--they are not getting enough sun and that caused the lack of bloom. I have done everything I know but alas I am through. Psst: don't tell Mom and she won't be upset! LOL

Marilyn Glen st. Mar, FL(Zone 9a)

I love to smell the gardenias,,,hate having them across the front of the house. Come next spring, they are OUTTA there! If the boys want to keep them, they can dig a hole elsewhere for them. I want something different out there. Time for a change, right Marion?
These bloomed profusely this year,,,but they don't grow at all! same height, just get rounder,,,and most of the time they are just green,,,I'm tired of them.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh how I understand that!!

Marilyn Glen st. Mar, FL(Zone 9a)

lol, Marion I am not one to get tired of flowers,,,but I've been looking at this same front door area for nearly three years now and I'm a little tired of it...nothing I do improves it,,,they are still there,,,so come spring, digger I"ll be .,,they are gone.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Man, wished you could send them my way.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

How about 6 and only 3 times have they bloomed! Oh shall we have a party when we do this? Love gardenias but only if they will fill out and bloom--still goes back to right plant in the right place theory. Haven't even gotten started on the cast iron plants in the sun --what little area I have for sun. Burn to a crisp.

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

So do I Cindy, they would be yours for sure.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Bummer, oh weel I'll just have steal some of my daughter's lol. Thanks anyways Marion

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

You are very welcome but who knows may find a way to send some when they come out. Don't under estimate this ole lady. LOL

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

You just take it easy ok.

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

Goodness, no way to read and keep up with you ladies. If I read it all, and I want to, then you are always a couple pages ahead of me. Did read some and so sorry for that painful hand and for the decision you are faced with. Am praying for you and for that bad leg to just get well.
Jaye, I love all your lillies, and I think we all should have at least 1 of each. I have some pretty one's too that Anna gave me last year.
Love to all.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Jaye and Trisha, You two would love this town.Yesterday we went to Washington we had to go through Milton Freewater, Or. There were people size frogs sitting in front of some business and in peoples yards. Every year they have a muddy frog water festival. Here is a link. Some of the frogs were so cute!!!

Marilyn Glen st. Mar, FL(Zone 9a)

Jaye in Mo. they also have a frog festival...and on my way to Ft. Leonardwood, there is a pass through a mountain, and a huge rock coming out of the side which someone has painted to look exactly like a frog! And there are real live huge frogs everywhere! I have never seen such large frogs as I saw there last year.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

My SIL went back home to Eastern Washington while MIL was in the hospital. The Frog fountain on her pond edge had been knocked off...the frog in the pond was a little smaller...when she went to check out the smaller one she discovered it was a Real Bullfrog.....that explained where all of her feeder gold fish have been disappearing to....she has been feeding the bull frog!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Oh Trisha, how sad but funny all at the same time.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Well Marion at least it was ten cent each gold fish and not the expensive ones!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Still sad but again, funny. I am quite sure we have all done something like that in our lives.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Well when we had our first little pond when we lived in town.........I electrocuted my feeder gold fish......til I stuck my hand in to get a dead one out and I got zapped. The surge bar had gotten wet and I didn't know it.....LOL..

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Evening dear ladies. Again, it's a scorcher this afternoon. No rest from the heat into the night.

Have you been resting indoors Maid M? Hope so. No WISE homosapiens should be out there tempting brother Heat!!

Will have to look for that anti mosquito clip, Trisha. No mosquitoes today.. they didn't want to be 'steamed' in this heat and humidity!
Ooh.. btw.. expect a package heading your way next week ;)

Can you say.. "golfish sushi" Synda!

Man size bull frogs?? Haven't been to a frog festival. Just hope at that frog fest in Milton, they don't serve frog legs Cindy. That's cannibalism!!

Kel treated me to more DLs. Where were our brains.. we were out there walking through rows of dls in the hot sun, heads unprotected.. sweating profusely!! Next dl shopping will be in November!
I'm just glad I won't be planting them!

Faye, yes, every garden that has too much sun exposure should have daylilies. And if one live too close to Roycroft and Marietta like me, I feel sorry for that gardener :D

Needless to say, that was the only stop. If you don't count lunch and an almost siesta in the truck!!

Be back.. juniors want my attention!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Jaye, the man size frogs were sculptures not real frogs. You did get too much sun, lol.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Lolol!!! You are right Cindy. Any of that margarita left.. pass me one.. hold the alcohol!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Have a wonderful Father's Day tomorrow. Kel will be grilling pop chops and saugages for his dad after church tomorrow. NOT looking forward to be in the heat again.

Good night ladies. Rest well.. you too Cody ;)

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Sure do worry about all of you back in that high heat.....don't have to worry about heat here right now.... in fact DH has the little electric lap robe over him right now...so of course I am perfectly comfortable....no, we are not turning the heat back on...he can just turn up the blanket, it costs less to run than the furnace.

Thanks Jaye :)

Would love to have a Giant frog to put next to my drive way!!!!

Hope all have a good Fathers Day......Sage made her dad....well he works at a pizza place and he takes orders from people and writes them down...so she made him a pizza ball point pen with a Pizza on top...Pepperoni of course...we were running late and I didn't get a picture of it...will have to get Laura to take one when she gets home.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
Coffee is on. 5yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyttuuuuuuuuuuu (Dallas want to greet y'all too) There are cinnamon rolls, buttered croissants and blue berries freshly picked from the garden.

Sage is getting more inclined to take after Laura and you, Trisha. Who knows, she might be the next Malvina Hoffman!

It was in the high 80's here last night. I truly feel sorry for the old folks who can't afford to cool their homes..

Have a wonderful Father's Day everyone.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Morning Folks.

All this talk about frogs... and I know there's a bunch of frog lovers here... you should see this article about what's happening in India.
http://www.myfoxdfw.com/dpp/news/weird/dpgo_Video_Frog_Wedding_in_India_SAB_06202009_2594315

Yep... it's really really hot here too... everything, and I mean everything, is suffering this heat... including me. Isn't it a bit too early in the year to get triple digits? That doesn't usually happen until July and August, right?

Even the water bugs are trying to come in for the air conditioning... so, I'm getting out the boric acid today... these suckers are as big as mice... and scare me everytime.

(Phyllis) Flint,, TX(Zone 7b)

BJ do you need millie back to get the bugs ...lol..ya know she likes to catch and eat them rofl

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

morning ladies

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Morning Ladies,

I'm with Trisha. It is 53 right now and cloudy and windy. Has only been in the high 70's to low 80's. We will be leaving to go camping in the morning. Hopefully it will be warmer where we are going.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Morning everyone.
Hope your all doing well. Marion, glad that hand is slowly getting better! Please be carefull.

Todd is doing better. The bleeding has stopped in the ulcer, and he is on all kinds of new meds for it. Now we are re-structuring out diets, for the bland, soft foods, no beef...
He has gout real bad, and has the ulcer, so we are learning to eat all over again. No spicey foods, no red meat, no more crunchy foods or chips of any kind.
Thanks again for all the prayers.

LK

Jaye would dearly love to have your night time temp for our daytime temp here……a little sun right now but you can see the clouds and there is more of a breeze than I really like for riding. Nope, even on our anniversary I don’t get out of a bike ride. At least it will be a short one because Sean will be dropping Sage off at one so he can go to work.

Was quite amusing at Church last night....we are the third couple in our congregation (that we know of) who are celebrating a 40th anniversary today.....

Good to see you BJ! Don’t know about your area but they are saying it is going to be a warmer and drier than usual summer for us….the farmers have already had to begin irrigation several weeks earlier than normal.

I love frogs but let me think about that one for a bit.

Phyllis, Porters thing is flys and bees, she will chase them everywhere!

Cindy, hope you get some warmer weather down there….if you find it send some up her.

LK and Todd…..so glad things are getting better. Work hard at it and it won’t take long to get used to the new diet….it isn’t as bad as it sounds in the beginning. Bill used to eat a bag of potato chips Every Night while waiting for me to finish cooking dinner. Very rarely do we ever have chips these days and we have cut way back on red meat…..never thought I would see the day on either one. Thankfully we aren’t required to cut out the spicy thing…I live with a bottle of hot sauce constantly on hand.Have to get the dog out for her walk and get ready to leave....talk to everyone later...

A Happy Fathers Day to all the Dad's out there....everyone enjoy the day, stay cool and be safe....

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Good Afternoon Everyone!! Happy Father's Day!!

LK I'm glad Todd's doing better, a bummer you have to completely change your diets but that might not be a bad idea anyway, I should do it with you!

Marion keep resting that hand, glad it's getting better, slowly but surely.

Anyone anywhere can take the South's heatwave, we'll be more than happy to give it to ya! LOL

I vowed to not go outside this afternoon and work in the garden, but there was one small project I wanted to do, so here I went. It only took about 30 minutes to do it, but by the time I was done I felt like I was going to pass out and gave myself a headache, should have eaten before I went out there Duh!! So now I'm in my undies sitting here with a Stoffer's Chicken Pot Pie in the microwave.

This heat wave has got to end, it's 91 with a real feel of 104. Good Grief! Oh oh, I've got to call my step dad. BBL Uh I can't find my phone! Not Good!

Henderson, NC(Zone 7b)

God is so good! I have had a wonderful day. Went to church, heard the most beautiful song done by our choir, The pastor did an outstanding Father's Day sermon, LOL then several of the church friends went with us to Hardee's for fried chicken & biscuits. After lunch, 4 of us went to a marvelous Day Lily Farm. They have so many that they have actually lowered their prices on many of the lillies. When we got there, they were working on "internet orders". I managed to come home with 8 different colors. Will be going back to church for a 5 o'clock Bible study and preaching @ 6pm.
The lily web site is: www.oakvillefarm.com
Hope all of you have had a good day. Love to all.Faye

Fostoria, OH(Zone 5a)

The past few years it has been getting harder for me to work outside so I have a young man who is a teacher and has his own lawn care business who comes and mows, trims, and does general spring/fall maintenance. That leaves me time to "play" in my gardens. He has been promising to come and edge and lay mulch since early Spring but the weather has gotten in the way, so he and a helper came while I was gone on family reunion this past week. I came home to beautifly edged garden with red mulch that sets off the green of the plants.

While they did a fabulous job of cleaning out many of the weeds that were in my back garden, which gets negelected by me since it is the dog's domain, I think he cleaned out a number of plants I really liked! I notice I have NO violets anymore and while they do tend to multiply, I really like their smiling faces. I also have a favorite plant, the bunnera that blooms in the early spring but has nice leaves throughout the year. As far as I can see they are all gone. They may just have been done blooming and the leaves dwindled, but I don't think so.

The other nice thing they did was to trim all of my bushes and shrubs. They trimmed my liliac at the bottom and it looks so good; they trimmed the hydranga and I think that means I will have no blooms this year as I think they bloom on new growth. I looks good but since last year was the first that it bloomed I was hoping for more this year.

So much for having someone doing work while I am gone. I guess I have to take the good with the bad and since there is more good here than bad, it will give me an opportunity to...buy more plants!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Briefly checking in and then off to bed....took some flowers to the cemetery and Kim and I almost past out from the heat--102 at 12:30!! It is 91 at this writing however we will be digging out our sweaters by Tuesday as it is predicted to be 98!!! Veritable cold wave now.

Linda Kay so glad Todd is doing well, like Trisha you will adjust to the diet and wonder why you every ate the other way. We had to do that many, many years ago for Ross.

Crissy, be careful outside with the heat--heat stroke is not fun!! We don't need anyone else with problems that is why I am trying so hard to get better. I miss my right hand!! LOL I am not as able to move the middle fingers today as I was yesterday so I think I might have overdone it a bit. Soaking it and seeing the doctor or Tuesday.

Well I am out of here for today.............................

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

Cody sorry I missed your call,I had layed down and must not of heard the phone.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

It's 11 oclock... and we're sitting here waiting for Katy to arrive.
Katy is a German girl who is going with us to New Braunfels tomorrow. She's been in Calif this week with her host family, and flew home today... Their flight was at 7am this morn... they missed the plane... so, they've sat at the airport all day on stand by... and just got a 4 oclock flight... should have landed in Dallas around 9pm, then after they found their luggage, they were suppose to bring her here. Should be any moment now, but they have no clue where we live... and she hasn't called since they landed... getting a bit frustrated here.

Leaving early in the morning, and not taking any computers... so, I'll be back Wed night/Thurs morn... not sure.

Carrollton, OH(Zone 6a)

BJ you have a safe and fun trip.........but you will be missed. You'll be gone too long.

(Trisha) Olympia, WA(Zone 8a)

Marion sure hope your hand gets better soon...I know how frustrating it is. We were hit by a car two years ago on our bicycle and my thumb was jammed into the pavement. Didn't seem too bad at the time...we don't have medical insurance so didn't go in and get it checked. It hurt like H@## and I was in an aluminum brace for several months and took almost a year to regain full use of my thumb....it still gives me a little trouble now and then. You don't realize how much you use your thumb until you can't.

BJ we miss you.....have a safe trip and get back on here soon.

Had a great ride this morning, short and flat. Bill got the pond space dug out, I got the liner set, rock around the edge and water in so the filter can start getting settled in. Just need to get the plants all cleaned and transplanted then we can move the old pond to the back and start working on the new bed. Still a lot of work to be done.

Have to take MIL to Therapy tomorrow afternoon, and see about getting Sage into swimming lessons. Tuesday take MIL for test at the hospital in the morning. Laura and I are doing weeding at MIL's on Wednesday, and it is worse than both of the other places we have done recently....going to be a big job....going to be awhile before I get to finish up my own stuff:(

Going to call it a night....tired and stiff...hope I can get up in the morning. Everyone have a good night...talk to you tomorrow.

Bill and Sage getting ready to start on the pond...
