I have talked to my credit card company and they said they will not allow the charge to stand so at least i will get my money back. bottom line avoid springhill gardens like the plague it is. On May 15th, 2009, hopefulcpl added the following: on may 15th I finally received and Email back from customer service at springhill nursery Andy from customer service said the plants and trees i ordered are out of stock and they are working to get them shipped to me as soon as possible. as a token ( their wording ) of apology they did take an additional 10% off my order total. I am fine with that gesture but would still like to know why the website says they have these items in stock when they do not have them. hopefully my trees and plants will ship soon. we will just have to wait and see since the order says it will now ship between june 1 2009 and june 22 2009. On May 18th, 2009, hopefulcpl added the following: UPDATE: C/C got charged May 15th for the order and I E-mailed them right away to find out what is going on since order online says it has not shipped. received an E-mail on May 18th telling me order was ready and would be shipped in 2 -3 days and allow an additional 3 - 7 days for delivery. will update again if and when order actually arrives and what shape the order was in. I responded back to the BBB that this was still not acceptable as they have told me the exact same thing for 2 weeks now. these people at Springhill nursery are bold face liars and need to be called on it and the State of Ohio needs to pull their business license. it is now May 21st 2009 and still shows on their website that the plants will not ship until May 28 2009 and that date changes everyday to a further date. beginning to think that I will never see the plants I ordered and that this company is committing mail fraud as well as internet fraud. I will update as to the arrival and condition on the day I receive them. I still think they need a lot of help as far as relating that things are on backorder and to how long it will take to receive them. but after everything I will say the customer service agents do appear to be very friendly never rude. they just unfortunately are kept in the dark and cannot give customers the answers they need to. they do reply to emails after you get them to reply to the first one but it takes quite awhile to get a reply. I feel this is because they are overwhelmed with customer complaints. I still wish when I had placed the order that they would have sent me an E-mail with the confirmation note telling me that they were out of stock on the items I ordered rather than let me sit and watch the dates change daily. I have suggested that to their customer service so we will have to see if they start doing that. |

I ordered two of the Complete Never Ending Border Perennials and one Corner Garden. I noticed that the delivery date kept getting pushed out. I noticed a charge coming through for the total of the order last week from my bank account and thought maybe the website just isn't updated. I called and was informed the corner garden was being shipped, but thought it sounded like the whole order was being shipped. I gave up on the phone because it was hard to understand the person I was talking to as she had a thick accent. Well, I received the tracking information and received the Corner Garden with no problems with the plants, but the big order shows the estimated delivery being between 6/6 and 6/25. I called and requested to cancel that portion of the order as the end of June is just too late to me to be starting to plant these things. They canceled that portion of the order for me and verified (I verified on my bank account too) that I was only charged the for the Corner Garden. I do not understand why there website shows a shipping schedule for zone 5 not past 6/12 when my order shows estimated delivery through the end of June. I am pleased that they canceled the rest of the order for me without hesitation and that the person I spoke with waited on the line so I could verify what I was actually charged for through my bank account and that he actually verified the amount that they put through to be charged as well wasn't for the full order and only for the items I received. I'll keep an eye on my bank acct, but since the website now shows that portion of the order canceled I feel that I probably won't be charged. |

On May 7th, 2009, NChorselover added the following: After two more days of watching the "delivery estimate" change - I called again. First customer service rep (Karen) was very rude - argued with me about why the plants were taking so long to ship, and would not stop talking over me when I tried to ask questions. (I am assuming this is probably because she receives a lot of call from irate customers like myself!!) I asked to speak to her supervisor, she said that the supervisor would just tell me the same thing. I insisted on speaking to the supervisor, Crystal, who was very nice, but told me that the customer service reps from India should never have told me that the items would ship in 2-3 days because they have no idea when they'll ship. I cancelled the entire order. I have been misled and lied to by too many people. I have learned my lesson and will never order from Spring Hill or any of their associated companies again. |

I used the $25 savings certificate for an order over $50. I received my entire order in a timely manner, that is not the issue. I found out about this site 'after' my order was placed, but decided for wishful thinking in the grand scheme of things, since I had no experience to write about. I ordered 3 blue fragrant lavender and we planted them in a timely manner according to the planting directions. I know a dead plant when I see one, (these were wilted when we received them and I had hoped they'd bounce out of it). Two out of the three are dead and the third one looks iffy. I called the Customer Service last weekend, and told the lady they'd been in the ground one week and two are dead. She said that perhaps they are in shock, give them another week and see if they bounce back. They have not and the third one is looking sickly now. They are dead or dying. I've read on here that the company can black ball you for too many dead plants. That scares me as I also ordered three snow in summer and they look sickly too. I emailed the company about this 2 for sure dead ones on 4/27/09 and haven't received a response yet. I doubt I'll be ordering from them as I'll just stick with my local nurseries. I wish I'd paid attention to the warnings. The pictures in the catalogs make everything look so good and it is our desire that we get that result too, but we've got to have good plants to work with from the get go....not wilted ones. On May 8th, 2009, floatingfeather changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: I was pleasantly surprised that I did speak with their customer service department and I not only was given the two plants that died, but an additional third one, just as I'd received in the beginning, and just the way it was packaged, three in a grouping-at no charge, just as their policy states. These look extremely healthy and are in the ground and I'm hoping they will take off and look like they did in the catalog. I just wanted to share because I guess I was going into this very skeptical from others reviews, but until I experienced it myself, and had a resolution in a positive way, I would be willing to give this company another chance. Happy Gardening!! |

As the date got closer I kept watching the order status. The anticipated ship date was continually being moved out from 3/28 to 4/1, 4/3, 4/10, 4/17, and finally 4/20/09. I finally called on 4/10 to see what could be done to get my order here since I need it by April 17th. They put a “RUSH” on the order and said it should ship on 4/13 and get here by 4/17. I called back to verify on 4/13 and they told me there was a credit card issue (gotta love it when VISA gets their information stolen and you get replacement cards). I gave them new numbers and they said they would process the order ASAP. The next day I get an email and a voicemail from them saying there was a credit card issue, I called them and they said the order was being processed and was shipping and the issue was resolved. I again told them I needed this by 4/17. (I also informed them that their customer service email on their website kicks back as undeliverable). I checked the website today (4/16) and the order had still not shipped. I called them again and they said it hasn’t shipped but was “printed” at the warehouse. I finally asked to speak to a supervisor “Debbie” who was going to email the warehouse to get a status and email me back in a few hours as well as see if they could overnight them. I told her all of this needed to be shipped overnight because I needed it by 4/17, which is why I ordered early. So far customer service has been “mostly” pleasant (the supervisor was a bit short) but also mostly unhelpful and I keep getting the runaround. I called back 3 ½ hours later to check on status since I had not heard anything back and was told “Debbie” was in a different location but my order should ship and be here next week. I told them I needed it tomorrow which is why I have been calling. I ended up cancelling my order even though they offered free shipping and 10% off. I told them I needed the plants not a discount, get me those by tomorrow and I would be happy. So the cancellation went through. We’ll see if they credit my credit card back – if not I will have lots more comments to post. I will be getting some of my plants locally and for the one’s I can’t get here (about half of them) I will order from someone else OUTSIDE THE SCARLET TANAGER LLC umbrella of companies (Gardens Alive Inc., Audubon Workshop, Breck's Bulbs, Henry Fields, Gurney's Seed & Nursery Company, Henry Field's Seed & Nursery Company, Michigan Bulb Company, Rocky Meadow Orchard & Nursery, Scarlet Tanager LLC dba Michigan Bulb Company, Spring Hill Nurseries). I won’t ever order from these companies again and will make sure I spread the word to my friends and neighbors about my experience. On Apr 16, 2009, Spring Hill Nursery (aka SpringHillNursery.com) responded with: "On Jun 19, 2009 10:02 AM, Spring Hill Nursery (aka SpringHillNursery.com) responded with: We contacted the customer 4/20 and offered a gift certificate for all the trouble they had with their order, they declined the offer 6/12." |

I ordered four planned gardens, as the varieties were ones I wanted multiples of, and this was a less costly alternative, plus some multiples of geraniums (12 of several varieties). I received the confirmation of order receipt. After reading the reviews on your web-site, I had an uh-oh reaction. I had not ordered from SpringHill in 20 years-after my last new home landscaping. Sure enough when I checked my order status the geraniums were to be shipped Aug-Sept!! Several of the garden plans were already sold out (I suppose subs would have been made). After researching, preparing new beds, which entailed removing very large shrubs, I would have been devastated to have received whatever was planned in substitute, and no geraniums until fall?? Customer service cancelled my order in a friendly manner-which is why this is a neutral and my card was not billed. Thank you SO MUCH for the heads up! |

I would highly recommend Spring Hills bare root plants. But the potted plants, though healthy, are really small. And with ship times being an issue for Spring Hills, I would probably look to my local nursery for them - more bang for the buck, and they won't be showing up 6 weeks before your last frost date. On March 16th, 2009, huha17 added the following: March 16, 2009 First thing I did when I got home today was call Springhill to cancel (BOTH ORDERS). Spoke to a man with a southern accent who advised me that I had called in the second order on 3.11.09 -my call was taken IN INDIA! I told him I did no such thing - if I had known they were routing emails through INDIA I never would have ordered from them in the first place. I said that I had emailed that day to ask what was happening because I had recv'd an email that said the order was processing and then a second email less than 15 minutes later saying I had to call a payment in AND the prices were different. I told him I never got a response then found 2 DUPLICATE ORDERS on the site yesterday and at this point I was calling to cancel the whole thing. It was cancelled promptly and I double checked the site and the orders were cancelled. I have not been charged -TG Thank you guys for posting your troubles. I'll check here 1st the next time I think about using an online nursery! |

I know of no nursery that sells strawberries in full leaf and actively growing. While it may appear that your strawberries are frozen and lifeless they are not-they're just dormant. Take Springhill's advice and plant them, you may have a few losses but I bet the majority of them will be perfectly fine. Strawberries like a lot of sun and a well drained soil. Best of luck. |

When the frozen plants were found, I immediately called Spring Hill Nursery to request they send a call tag to pick up the frozen plants and told her I also was not pleased that roots had been substituted for some of the plants, and that I didn't order roots and didn't want roots. I told her that I specifically ordered only what I thought were plants...but apparently #1 field grown plants (strawberries) are just bare roots with a couple green frozen leaves attached. I was told to plant them, that I ordered them. Spring Hill also substituted roots for 14 plants that upon checking their website again, I could not find listed as #1 field grown plants. Because only one plant was marked as a sub on the invoice the rep. assumed the rest were roots that I ordered. |

In August of 08 I placed an order online using a "free $25.00 worth of product" that popped up in a google ad while I was surfing the internet. All I had to pay was shipping. Total cost of my order was $8.41 cents and my items were to be shipped in spring of 09. Well here we are 6 months later and I get a little post card in the mail telling me my items are out of stock and for any inconvenience they were giving me five dollars off my next purchase!? My husband called the company asking if we could apply the coupon to items that may be in stock and we were told no. Then she tried telling him that when I used the coupon to begin with it was expired! BULL! So he wants to know why they are advertising expired coupons on google. No answer. I think it's ridiculous that it takes them six months to figure out they are out of stock of an item that doesn't ship until spring...and I think they are just plain stupid telling me my coupon code was expired. Expired coupon codes don't even work online when placing an order. They made no effort in trying to please me as a costumer. They were like...too bad soo sad for you! |

We saw the Sorbet Peony in their catalog 3 years ago and ordered it for a specific spot in our garden. The root arrive looking really nice so into the ground it went. It sprouted and the plant was green for the first two years. The third spring, we got our first flowers. Imagine our disappointment when what we thought was the Sorbet was, in fact, a standard red Chinese Peony. I called the company and explained what we had and offered to dig up the plant and mail it back to them. The customer service rep I spoke with said to wait on that and that she would see what they could do since it was 3 years from the date of the order. 10 days later, we received another peony root, clearly labeled "Sorbet" with a note attached that said we should enjoy the Chinese Peony and in a couple of years should really enjoy the Sorbet. These folks are tops in my book. That's customer service to the max. |

I stopped ordering from them for quite a while because of the ridiculous auto response online. and they would never answer them anyway. I finally wrote the customer service department thru snail mail and said i wouldn't be ordering from them anymore and all of a sudden i am getting answers and now the email i send is also getting responses. Maybe they finally woke up. Also-the phone customer service is fine now. I have placed two spring orders-so upon receipt of my order and future customer service experience, I may change my rating to positive. On March 11th, 2009, plantgnome changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: i have now received my spring orders-all the plants are large, healthy and packaged very well and delivered exactly when I was told they would be. I am very happy with the order. I don't know if someone else now runs the company, but I have renewed faith with them. I am just waiting for my replacement astilbes which are expected to arrive in the next week or so. Thank you Springhill Nursery. On April 12th, 2009, plantgnome changed the rating from positive to neutral and added the following: Evidently if you order really early, you get your plants on time. If you place an order in Spring, you have to wait for them to grow them first and wait over a month for those plants. My opinion "don't offer plants that aren't ready to ship". They are better than they were, but still need to improve their customer service and plant availability. |
