That Trumpet vine does take some looking after but I think the display is worth the effort. Right now the hummers are all over it.
Here is a new pic of one of the window boxes, we were late getting these started with this funny spring weather but it is starting to come along.
ge1836, 7ft Lilies? WOW
Let's See Your ARBORS and TRELLISES! Part 3
I just picked up (copied) about 10 lily pix to go with the purple cones that are about to bloom.
I'm looking for some simple form that wont make the 2 lilies in that spot ,look too fussy.
I chose purple rain, funny how we think alike.
I'll put together some combos and dmail
Nice window box, Holly, and a reminder that our window boxes need watering.
What's the name of the 7' white lily, Jo Ann? I have some tall ones but none at 7'.
Some purple basil could also go in your vacancy right now and give the color you want.
What a glorious setting for those lilies.
My choice would be Landini but do check Plant Files to be certain of the color.
Thanks for the heads up.
I usually brighten the stolen pix from garden store websites.
I dont know why they are so dark unless they want an absence of glare from full sun. It makes a bug diff. some dark purplr reds turn into pinks with a touch of peach.
The bloom time is the critical thing for your orange and yellow lily area. There's no point in having the right color at the wrong time and your space is limited. My thinking cap needs more coffee.
your doin fine Pirl.
Whammmo
Now you have a choice for next year.
Beautiful ! Do you know what rose(s) is growing on it ?
Stunning!
On one of her many travels, one of my ds's took a photo of a covered bridge that had a climbing rose covering it. I'll have to ask her what state it was in.
I don't know what rose that is but the lady there (Bobbie) was so nice I bet I could find out.
Ginger
It must weigh quite a lot.
Absolutly beautiful.
I believe that is what is called (in French) an 'allee' - we want to build one on the path that leads down the hill from our house. In our case, we would probably use grapevines and/or some other mixed vines. They are magical.
Thanks for the re-rouring Zuzu!
I was lost on the first thread.
My beautiful gazebo that I purchased for a small fortune from Fred Meyer did not survive the whirly thing that blasted through my yard...sooooooo.. since my DH did not heed my warning to stake it down he is now building me a HUGE CEDAR 16 x 16 ARBOR to replace it....
Whooo Hoooo!!!
Ginger
Proof that out of bad comes good.
Very nice Pirl
Wow! And is that a Thalictrum next to it?
Yes...it was. It's too tall and so few flowers that it's been deleted.
LOL, your garden must be ever-changing, Pirl! I asked in the other thread about your platycodon in that photo and you said it was now moved... and so is the thalictrum! Your garden map must be a nightmare to keep updated!!! =P
I look at the map each winter and it brings back fond memories. Before the computer I was diligent about changes but now photos are my garden plans.
Ive lost controle of my maps.
They are not as reliable as they were in May.
Someone warned me.
It would be ideal for both. The Clematis would latch right on to that cattle fencing without any help from the gardener.
I'm sending cocoa lulu a link and hope she'll post an updated photo for us.
Pirl, I love that idea! I'm going to have to make another trip to our farm supply and have a look around for inspiration. Don't you find that when you look around at the gardening things available, ideas just pop into your head about new ways to plant your favorite plants? Hubby used to not understand this in me, but now he's even taken to bringing home trash he's passed on the side of the road that he thinks I might want to convert to treasure! (If you knew my Tom, you'd realize what a huge change this is!!!) His find of the charred fish chimenea turned fountain was the first part of the inspiration for the wrought iron wall that now is home to so many of my new clems! Now I'm looking for interesting containers... or more specifically something that is not a container now that can become one... to add some of the smaller-growing clems around the gardens.
I have more inspiration for you, Evey, from photos on DG on the uses of cattle fencing and other things like it. I don't know the names of all these products but I do love the results.
Look what Jack bought for me a few years ago and we still haven't installed it anywhere. Now for Jack it's a huge leap in the right direction since he's more prone to throw things out but now he loves all cast iron (loved Coghlan's Gallery in New Orleans!) and wrought iron. Haunt your local wrecking stores and architecural salvage shops for great finds.
Pirl, sadly, most of the salvage stores here don't have much wrought iron because it typically is scrapped for the metal instead of saved for it's beauty. Since New Orleans had one of the primary iron yards in the country for a very long time, we have a large amount of iron on the older homes in our area. Perhaps people don't value it's beauty as much because it's so frequently seen here. You have to catch the older iron while it's still sitting in someone's side yard or individual trash pile.

I'd be haunting the trash piles constantly. My friend did that in upstate NY and brought me about ten pieces, some of them huge.
Hi All, I haven't posted much but have been following along and enjoying the pics. I like that arbor of cocoa lulu's I've been looking at those long tunnels and thinking where can I put one of those. Not sure yet but I'll keep thinking about it. LOL
Here is an updated pic of my window boxes, don't think you have seen them since they filled out.
The salvage shops have caught on and charge huge prices.
New repros are nearly the same price
