we are getting more thunderstorms tomorrow & friday as well
Today's Weather in Your Garden - 47
55 degrees and misting right now . high of 68 w/ a chance of rain later.
We are supposed to get the t-storms tomorrow and friday too. Fingers crossed that they are right about the weekend: 70's and sunny Of course more rain forecast for Monday!! I'm starting to think that we live in the old country-my beginning farmer's tan is fading....
59 and drizzling. Crappy until Saturday, supposedly.
Dreary & cold. good day to have septic tank pumped out which is in progress at the moment.
Sunny, breezy, and 75 at the moment. Kinda humid, though
Sun is trying to break through---good day to weed & walk.
Cloudy, damp and cool I don't think there's any hope of seeing the sun.
Good day to weed.
irisMA, I hope the wind is blowing in a favorable direction(away from the house!). :-)
ok it didn't last long.
72 and spitting rain. Can't seem to make up it's mind if it wants to rain or not.
I drove down from Tolland Ct to the Cape this morning and traveled through only a couple drops of rain. along the way. Hazy day now on the passage between Hyannis and Nantucket on the Steamship. It is flat calm with the sun beaming through the haze, so it is a nice ride. I couldn't fly as I had too many plants to take home. I filled up a big tub with flats filled with little goodies along with a giant suitcase filled with more. But sadly, nothing big like another Japanese Maple. Boojum gave me a Harison yellow rose of Texas and as well a hefty clump of a favorite Iris called Berlin Tiger and some other gems. I hope we have a nice day tomorrow for me to plant all my new kids. Patti
boy was the weatherman I watch wrong.. it was dreary all day
My brother said since the weathermen don't deserve the $ they're making, they should turn in their salaries to balance our national debt.
I had to put socks on tonight as it is very cool. Patti
We'll need a lot more weathermen the way the debt is growing.
Victor, I thought all of us could buy our way out of the recession and refill the tax coffers one plant at a time. I am doing my best and I know you are too. I put about as much faith in the weatherman, as I do in most lawyers. Sorry dear Dad, but he was also an engineer, so that trumped his legal life. Patti
A lawyer and engineer? Which first?
Whoa there, Patti! LOL
Hee hee!
Victor, He had a Mechanical Engineer degree from U of Mich, before WWII, then came back from the Aleutian campaign and did the GI bill for a law degree with 4 kids at home and a new business that he and my mom had started that did engineering design for oil field stuff along with distribution company for motors and pipeline supplies in Tulsa. He wanted to have a patent law degree for his engineering work, so he didn't practice much law. He did do a lot of charity cases to stay active and to help out some desperate folks that he would hear about. He was a super good guy in every way.
He and my mom and youngest brother started another engineer firm and fin tubing fabrication company that designs and manufactures waste heat reduction systems before he died in 1981. My middle brother took over the company some years ago when my youngest brother decided to retire at a young age. Mom has, sort of, finally at 94 retired. She just invited my DH and youngest brother and me to go to South Africa in Jan 2010 as she has never been there. We would not get to go without her generous offer. Botanical gardens, birds and big game will be a real treat.
Anyone watching the game.....my Dad would not be pleased. He was from NY and was a big Yankee fan. I was too, until my first game in Fenway in July of 1976. I still have my game hat from that day. Patti
Wow - great family history, Patti! Very impressive.
And another wow on that great opportunity to see S. Africa!! I'm so jealous. They make some great wine there.
Victor, I will try some of that great wine too. I am just pleased that she is still planning for next year. I think that keeps her happy and healthy. No moss under her feet. She is off to her cottage in Canada soon.
55 now.
Dang Damon just popped one out. and now a back to back. Victor is happy. I am not. patti
No - not happy. The Mets blew a 4-1 lead. Now tied.
patti i was watching the game and not dg - red sox win another - was that the hat you were wearing here? btw all your gifts are in the ground waiting for rain.
so are there any stall aways available to go to south africa? missed the chance when i was younger working for a int'l company. went almost everywhere else never africa
Wha, Yes, I watched the game with that old 1976 hat that I was wearing at your house. Pretty exciting and then we get to do it again tomorrow night. Where is my broom?
I have only been to North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia) and that was a long time ago, so I am excited to go. Though I hate short trips with long flights. I might try to get her to extend the trip to 3 wks. It isn't like she has to get home for any reason, me neither. I like this retirement thing. It will be a long flight for Mom, but she seems to deal with it better than me. I think she keeps her little roll on bag always packed! She said something about going to an ostridge farm and that we could ride one. Now that would be a sight. Since she is treating, I will have to go along with her plans.
I need to check and see what Jan weather is in South Africa. We have actually closed the window tonight as it is chilly. Patti
64 now.. going up to 72.. another day of rain
59 and raining. Dreary days continue.
Conditions at Nantucket
Wind from the NNE (030 degrees) at 12 MPH (10 KT)
Visibility 8 mile(s)
Sky conditions overcast
Temperature 55.9 F (13.3 C)
Dew Point 55.0 F (12.8 C)
Relative Humidity 96%
Dreary here too, but I can plant all my new goodies after I rip out more yellow flag iris or make curtains, which I have been avoiding. I am better playing in the dirt than with the sewing machine.
Victor, sorry about your Mets in the 11th. Patti
It is 60' here and once more waiting for rain
Trip to SA sounds great though I traveled quite a bit to South America and Europe, I have been to Egypt but for a very short time just to watch 'Aida' under the Pyramids. While visiting mysister in Vienna, I think it was in 1969, on the spur of the moment I made reservations to fly just to see the opera, it was magnificent and worth all the $$$$$$ as a Viennese one grows up loving any classical music.
But now traveling is over for me because of my vision problems, last time I needed a wheel chair at the airport because I could not read were I was suppose to go. It is wonderful
Patti, your Mother still can travel at her age
Maria
bbrook january in SA is summer so it should be a great time to visit. i've heard the country is beautiful.
cloudy here with rain expected later - need to go pick up our mosquito magnet from the repair shop and get it going - it seems the purchase price is only a down payment - had to have ours repaired the last two seasons - plan to bring the propane tank and reset value and test this thing at the shop before heading back home.
Wha, when you mentioned mosquito magnet - at first I thought you meant me. ^_^
64 and raining here.
I have seen pics of north eastern SA from a girl who spent 3 years there as a teacher in an orphanage. Just beautiful. The village- not so much. What a trip to look forward to! I'm sure you will enjoy it and so will we when you post all the pics when you get home.
funny jan - they love me that's why we spent so much $$ to get one of these things a few years ago. with the water down back it was brutal at dusk/night here. they really work - when they run - we have a liberty plus for an acre and a half coverage - the repair guys tell me this model is the most temperamental unit sold - now that is great news to here and $100 out the pocket every spring.
Rained this morning, very dreary day.(again)
drizzle and gloomy(again)! No weeding today(grrr)
Have all the stuff from my patio on the lawn for 11 days now! They power washed the patio 10 days ago in preparation for the sealing and re-sanding, but the weather has prevented it all this time. Ugh.
Hope it dries out soon for you Victor.
Thanks.
We babysat up at the farm today----58 & gloomy---couldn't get the kids out, but 2 were sick anyway. Patti, that trip sounds great---would love to see the birds there! One of my students came back from S. Africa with a huge ostrich egg to show the class----Mets have broken my heart again---one more chance tonight!
