Holly they are very active dogs, even at his age. And the way the owner treated him he would be like a old puppy wanting to see, find and do all the things he never got to do when young. Funny how that works.
My Ester (black Lab) Who you remember last year that got injured and we thought we may have to put her down, she is 9 now and going blind. But is as spunky as a 2year old, I so worry about her. But she is not that kind of dog. I am so sorry about you loss and I know how it feels, I have a special grave yard that has 4 of my best friends buried there and then Buddy grave.
He needs alot of love, and someone that can be with him and bond with him 24/7. Older dogs do learn, time and patience. and most of us don't have that. Its called Work Work. LOL
Steve is the most caring and loving person to all animals and has been a great help to more than one of us. I would like to hear what he would Recommend on this pup.
OKay I got to deep in this SORRY
Off to bed
Who are your Garden Helpers Part 3!
While weeding a bed with a rock border, I pulled out a clump of grass between the rocks and look who was watching me! I went on working and he just kept on watching. I found a little shiny beetle about 1/3 of an inch long and shoved it at my little observer. He immediately grabbed it with his tongue, much to my delight. I found another one and we went through the process once again. No more beetles were around, unfortunately, but I had company all the while I finished with that bed.
Love his toupee! Cute little guy!

Wow Sharon, how cute is that!! Thanks for sharing.
Sorry Holly I have been off on a motorcycle ride. Dennis probably will not train after so many years and needs a doggie door and that might work. He is not that active and does need a hike once a day to "smell the roses". He sits with me and is relaxed just being near me. On the trail he pulls only the first couple of blocks trying to sniff trees etc. A fenced in yard would be good but they also need to walk. Think about it and let me know. I leave for Valdez a week from tomorrow.
The Pack must have been sleeping, or worse yet, maybe they befriended her! She must have thought she was in the Garden of Eden when she stumbled upon your garden. What a delicious looking smorgasbord, no wonder she couldn't resist.
Smorgasbord indeed! Strange with all your dogs, I thought they avoided places that smell like dogs.
That is too cute, welcome back LOL
Oh boy... this is MY 91# garden helper, but she's not much of a helper. She can mash a plant flat in one pass through. In this photo I had just caught her chasing the neighbor's cat (and it was a bit toooo close for comfort). THAT IS A MAJOR BAD NO-NO IN OUR HOUSE. So.. I put her in a "time out" after a big scolding. We were messing with the camera settings that day and I turned and snapped this picture just after she got in trouble. A picture is worth a 1000 words...LOL She is VERY SWEET with humans, but she was never socialized with anything else. She's a rescue (from a drug house out of Spokane), and missing a few bolts. I do love her, and MOST of the time she's a very good girl.
PS~
The deer here are tame as dogs...and they do not move off unless you do something VERY DIRECT! We've even had some young bucks STAND their ground if you try to chase them off.
Oh, that is too cute.
Highmtn.. Your dog in the first picture looks almost human. She has very soulful eyes!
Thank you both....she does have a very expressive face.
I have a friend who is a dog trainer/behavior specialist, and I jokingly sent her the photo and asked "What do you think she was thinking?"...she wrote back... "That is CLASSIC STINK EYE.... and I think you would be soaping her mouth out if she could say it"...lolol She also now uses that photo in her slide show presentation on "strong willed dogs"...lol
She is really a hand full as timesl, but she is a tremendous companion and I have no doubt she'd lay her life down for us in a dangerous situation.

Wonderful pictures......that dog bed is hilarious! ROFLOL
Amazing... a dog that has figured out how to flip you off with a look.....
Ginger
IT'S TRUE! A picture says a 1000 words...LOL I had no idea that photo was that FUNNY until I d/l'd the camera photos to the PC. We just rotf!
The local raccoons and Lucy, the neighbor's cat (who's a sweet little thing) drive her INSANE by walking on her fences, and hiding out in her wood shed...lol She was NOT HAPPY with me for stopping her and scolding her....let alone making her SIT AND STAY in a time out...lol She's a funny ol' mutt...and actually retained a complete "angelic & innocent" baby face until she was about 8 yrs old. In the past 18 months her face and muzzle have completely gone grey and she looks like an old cogger now...lol
Bea, LOL... Feisty looks like a wonderful help! Lots of fun ribbons and crinkles to play with there!
Highmtn, Your pups are fantastic! The "look" is great, but the dog bed photo is just too much!
I just came back from my fishing trip last night, and was planning on being lazy and catching up on the forums today, but my day certainly didn't turn out like I planned.
My beautiful Miss Lexy crossed the rainbow bridge this morning..... She had a seizure and aparently a stroke... there was nothing else we could do but end her suffering.
I am heartbroken. My furbabies are my only children, and Lex was the best dog I have ever had. I knew that she was very old and her health was failing, but I was not ready to lose her. I took the rest of the dogs up to Mom's while DH laid her to rest, and then I came home and walked my yard for the first time ever without a furry beside me. What a horribly empty feeling.....
Oh RJ I am so sorry. I know how it feels to lose your best ever dog and friend. Your beautiful puppy came just in time to ease the pain.
I am crying over your lost, how so sad. I know how hard it is to lose a fur friend. I have many buried here. and will be losing another one soon, but it is not a fur baby. It is a feathered baby not gone as yet but close, I have had her for 13 years.
It is so hard to lose a love one no matter what kind of covering they have. I send all my comfort to you.
my sons puppy at 6 mos had a seizure and did not make it.
Hugs
So sorry Julie. Like the others have said, let Phoenix comfort you. Miss Lexy will be waiting when the time comes for you to be together again.
Julie - Here I was ready to post my little pooch and read that your special Lexy has left. To soon, as Phoenix needed her a bit longer to learn the ways of a good watch dog and steady companion. I am so sorry.
My little helper in the garden is "Sunshine" Can you find her in the picture? She has designated herself as the garden guard dog of bees and chippies! She is hiding in my cabin flowerbed waiting for the little chippies. She quietly waits for what seems like hours on her spot amongst the flowers - a chipppie arrives - she waits until it turns its back towards her and then takes "very slow quiet steps towards" it -
Oops - it's turned around - she stands at point - not a muscle moves until it turns its back towards her - acouple more steps - chippie turns and freezes "I do not remember a big white thing in the middle of the yard!" Off the chase goes.! Sunshine "used to" hunt the bees on my nepeta
"until" the day she got stung in the mouth. She is my companion while I weed and weed and weed - of course, she enjoys laying in the freshly dug dirt.
Oh, Julie, I am so sorry for your loss. Big hugs. They truly fill up our hearts.
Loved looking for Sunshine in the garden, Pam. Now you MUST post a picture of her in one of her cute poses so that you can share how sweet she is.
Our 4 legged kids hold a very special place in our hearts. I don't trust ANYONE is isn't an animal lover. I've met a few and I have no desire to get to know them.
There is nothing on earth more forgiving then our pets...they love us no matter what we look like...or how we behave. They are little furry angels as far as I'm concerned.
So very sorry for your loss. I hope in time you'll go find another little furry soul who needs to be rescued from a shelter. Together you can make a huge difference in each others life.
Thank you all so much for your condolences. It has been a rough weekend for me.... I keep looking in Lexy's favorite places and expecting to see her there...
The pain of losing such a dear friend is awful, but I will gladly endure it in exchange for the love we shared over the years.
Highmtn, I agree...furry little angels! I knew that Lexy's time was close (she was 15 or 16, which is old for a big dog) and her health had been deteriorating rapidly, and I also know myself very well and knew how I would react to her passing. I set myself up with a new little furbaby a couple of months ago....I knew I would need warm fuzzies to get me through when the time came. Her name is Phoenix, and you can meet her here... http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/998068/
Phoenix has been a wonderful balm to my heart....she has stuck to me like puppy glue, and seems to know that Mommy is hurting because I am getting more kisses and loves than ever. My boy Hunter is the same way.... I so love my babies!
Thanks Sharon - but DH took Sunshine back to the house and I am still at the cabin so no more pics of her for a while
It is good to have you back
I have some sweet pics of Sunshine I could post for you!
Thank you Sharon
If you think Sunshine needs another posting
that would be nice of you
Julie...
I went and looked at your pictures... *sigh*...such cuties! Only TIME soothes these kinds of losses, and I know allllllllll about "thinking you see them out of the corner of your eye" laying here or there in the house or yard. That part is eerie.
